A49524 The reformed Presbyterian, humbly offering to the consideration of all pious and peaceable spirits several arguments for obedience to the act for unifromity, as the way to vnity and endeavouring to demonstrate by clear inferences from the sacred scriptures, the writings of some of the ancients, or several old pastors of the reformed churches abroad, and of the most eminent old non-conformists amongst ourselves : as Mr. Josias Nichols, Mr. Paul Baines, and other learned divines : as for Mr. Perkins, Mr. Iohn Randal, and Mr. Rob. Bolton, that there is nothing required by the act for vniformity that is forbidden by the law of God / by Rich. Lytler ... Lytler, Richard. 1662 (1662) Wing L3573; ESTC R1525 139,662 290

evident_a that_o in_o those_o time_n there_o be_v a_o superior_a in_o the_o ministry_n that_o do_v examine_v try_v and_o find_v liar_n such_o as_o say_v they_o be_v apostle_n which_o must_v needs_o be_v such_o as_o do_v take_v upon_o they_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n but_o yet_o notwithstanding_o according_a to_o the_o quotation_n if_o bishop_n usher_n in_o the_o four_o council_n of_o make_v a_o right_a judgement_n from_o this_o discourse_n of_o the_o ordination_n that_o have_v be_v in_o use_n among_o we_o for_o these_o several_a late_a year_n past_a as_o to_o matter_n of_o fact_n i_o suppose_v it_o will_v easy_o be_v grant_v that_o contrary_a to_o what_o be_v propound_v and_o plead_v for_o as_o a_o great_a and_o necessary_a part_n of_o reformation_n that_o the_o bishop_n shall_v not_o ordain_v alone_o but_o the_o presbyter_n join_v with_o he_o the_o ordination_n of_o presbyter_n have_v be_v without_o any_o such_o bishop_n describe_v by_o hieron_n ad_fw-la euagrium_n thereof_o as_o those_o bishop_n do_v from_o saint_n mark_v time_n to_o hieraclas_n and_o dyonisius_n sect._n 9_o i_o must_v profess_v for_o my_o part_n i_o have_v be_v at_o many_o ordination_n in_o the_o city_n but_o can_v never_o see_v any_o such_o person_n hear_v of_o any_o such_o name_n but_o both_o name_n and_o thing_n have_v be_v want_v as_o describe_v by_o st._n jerom._n the_o class_n ordain_v without_o any_o bishop_n present_v alone_o by_o themselves_o and_o therefore_o the_o ordination_n that_o have_v be_v in_o this_o
for_o uniformity_n may_v be_v lawful_o observe_v with_o a_o safe_a conscience_n if_o i_o be_v not_o mistake_v this_o have_v be_v my_o work_n and_o endeavour_v to_o prove_v by_o the_o holy_a scripture_n the_o practice_n of_o the_o primitive_a church_n the_o judgement_n of_o the_o most_o eminent_a divine_n of_o the_o reform_a church_n abroad_o by_o the_o concession_n of_o several_a pious_a nonconformist_n which_o be_v dead_a and_o by_o what_o i_o have_v allege_v from_o mr._n baxter_n five_o disput._n first_n that_o a_o uniformity_n in_o god_n pulick_a worship_n by_o obedience_n to_o a_o shall_v hope_v through_o the_o great_a piety_n wisdom_n and_o moderation_n of_o our_o superior_n in_o press_v more_o for_o the_o substantial_o of_o religion_n the_o power_n of_o godliness_n than_o the_o form_n and_o by_o the_o obedience_n of_o inferior_n to_o their_o command_n in_o both_o these_o black_a cloud_n of_o god_n anger_n which_o i_o be_o apt_a to_o fear_n do_v still_o hang_v over_o our_o head_n may_v be_v blow_v over_o our_o discord_n and_o division_n about_o these_o matter_n of_o mode_n in_o worship_n and_o government_n which_o i_o believe_v be_v both_o our_o sin_n and_o punishment_n may_v be_v heal_v and_o that_o spirit_n which_o i_o fear_v in_o many_o that_o at_o this_o day_n lu_v not_o after_o envy_n but_o blood_n again_o may_v be_v subdue_v by_o a_o plentiful_a speak_v of_o the_o bound_n the_o church_n be_v to_o keep_v in_o ordain_v matter_n of_o ceremony_n under_o this_o head_n that_o they_o must_v have_v no_o opinion_n of_o god_n worship_n place_v in_o
