suffering_n and_o affliction_n so_o that_o we_o have_v no_o cause_n to_o be_v discourage_v at_o the_o suffering_n which_o attend_v we_o nor_o at_o the_o threat_n and_o frown_n of_o wicked_a man_n who_o hate_n and_o persecute_v we_o without_o a_o just_a cause_n but_o we_o have_v rather_o great_a cause_n of_o encouragement_n to_o persevere_v and_o go_v on_o bearing_z forth_o our_o testimony_n for_o the_o lord_n through_o all_o suffering_n if_o it_o be_v death_n itself_o know_v the_o reward_n thereof_o to_o be_v so_o exceed_o great_a and_o have_v this_o confidence_n in_o ourselves_o that_o none_o of_o these_o thing_n shall_v be_v able_a to_o move_v we_o nor_o to_o separate_v we_o from_o the_o love_n of_o god_n which_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n jesus_n nay_o but_o rather_o shall_v confirm_v we_o for_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v it_o be_v a_o evident_a token_n to_o we_o of_o salvation_n but_o to_o our_o adversary_n of_o perdition_n and_o that_o of_o god_n and_o so_o my_o belove_a friend_n you_o who_o be_v already_o exile_v and_o send_v into_o foreign_a part_n of_o the_o world_n for_o your_o testimony_n be_v sake_n i_o doubt_v not_o but_o you_o experimental_o know_v in_o a_o especial_a manner_n the_o largeness_n of_o the_o extent_n of_o god_n love_n unto_o his_o people_n in_o a_o suffer_a condition_n you_o have_v be_v in_o measure_n exercise_v therein_o beyond_o many_o other_o though_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o have_v the_o testimony_n of_o god_n holy_a spirit_n that_o many_o be_v as_o free_o give_v up_o in_o the_o same_o faith_n for_o the_o same_o testimony_n to_o partake_v with_o you_o outward_o of_o the_o same_o suffering_n as_o they_o do_v inward_o sympathize_v with_o you_o therein_o if_o the_o lord_n see_v it_o meet_v for_o the_o honour_n of_o his_o name_n so_o to_o suffer_v they_o to_o be_v exercise_v yet_o nevertheless_o all_o who_o have_v be_v and_o be_v faithful_a to_o god_n in_o their_o place_n have_v and_o do_v enjoy_v so_o much_o of_o the_o peace_n and_o presence_n of_o god_n as_o be_v full_o satisfactory_a unto_o they_o so_o that_o in_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n which_o from_o god_n we_o have_v receive_v and_o by_o which_o we_o be_v separate_v from_o the_o world_n and_o its_o way_n and_o work_n of_o darkness_n and_o by_o which_o we_o be_v raise_v up_o to_o be_v faithful_a and_o true_a witness_n for_o god_n and_o against_o the_o tradition_n of_o man_n by_o which_o they_o have_v make_v void_a god_n commandment_n i_o say_v in_o this_o spirit_n we_o do_v sympathize_v and_o partake_v with_o you_o both_o in_o suffer_v and_o in_o rejoice_v and_o have_v a_o real_a sense_n upon_o our_o heart_n and_o spirit_n of_o your_o estate_n and_o we_o be_v not_o unmindful_a of_o you_o but_o do_v hearty_o pray_v that_o he_o that_o so_o the_o witness_n of_o god_n in_o all_o conscience_n be_v answer_v by_o you_o both_o in_o life_n conversation_n and_o doctrine_n you_o may_v be_v a_o good_a savour_n unto_o god_n both_o to_o his_o chief_a argument_n therein_o produce_v by_o which_o he_o have_v in_o vain_a endeavour_v to_o accomplish_v the_o aforesaid_a work_n by_o he_o undertake_v a._n s._n his_o first_o argument_n produce_v to_o prove_v the_o church_n of_o rome_n to_o be_v the_o true_a church_n consist_v of_o nine_o particular_n as_o follow_v viz._n that_o be_v the_o true_a church_n and_o no_o other_o which_o be_v one_o holy_a catholic_n and_o apostolic_a church_n which_o be_v visible_a infallible_a inerrable_a in_o which_o be_v power_n of_o miracle_n out_o of_o which_o none_o can_v be_v save_v but_o the_o roman_a pontificial_a that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o faithful_a people_n disperse_v all_o the_o world_n over_o in_o communion_n with_o the_o high_a priest_n bishop_n or_o pope_n of_o rome_n be_v such_o and_o no_o other_o therefore_o the_o roman_a pontificial_a alone_o be_v the_o true_a church_n reply_n to_o which_o i_o reply_v that_o the_o true_a church_n of_o which_o christ_n alone_o be_v head_n and_o supreme_a governor_n be_v in_o itself_o one_o holy_a apostolic_a church_n etc._n etc._n i_o shall_v not_o go_v about_o to_o deny_v but_o as_o touch_v that_o grand_a question_n by_o a._n s._n state_v before_o his_o argument_n here_o insert_v viz._n which_o be_v this_o church_n etc._n etc._n i_o answer_v this_o be_v a_o thing_n indeed_o disputable_a among_o many_o yea_o among_o many_o thousand_o yet_o not_o at_o all_o questionable_a nor_o yet_o doubtful_a unto_o i_o for_o i_o be_o well_o satisfy_v therein_o and_o in_o all_o other_o thing_n that_o appertain_v to_o the_o way_n of_o life_n and_o salvation_n but_o that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v the_o true_a church_n as_o a._n s._n affirm_v and_o by_o his_o many_o argument_n have_v endeavour_v to_o prove_v i_o do_v not_o acknowledge_v but_o deny_v and_o doubt_v not_o but_o i_o shall_v in_o this_o short_a ensue_a treatise_n prove_v the_o contrary_a to_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o every_o judicious_a reader_n first_o although_o the_o true_a church_n of_o which_o christ_n be_v in_o visible_a head_n be_v one_o yet_o the_o oneness_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v not_o a_o sufficient_a argument_n to_o prove_v she_o to_o be_v the_o true_a church_n for_o wherein_o do_v her_o oneness_n consist_v far_o than_o in_o idolatry_n superstition_n murder_n and_o such_o like_a abomination_n of_o which_o much_o may_v be_v mention_v which_o be_v never_o practise_v by_o the_o true_a church_n in_o the_o apostle_n day_n but_o in_o these_o thing_n the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v one_o witness_v her_o worship_a idol_n or_o image_n bow_v to_o that_o she_o call_v her_o altar_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o her_o supestitious_a ceremony_n witness_v the_o kill_v burn_a or_o drink_v the_o blood_n of_o so_o many_o thousand_o as_o she_o have_v do_v for_o many_o hundred_o year_n past_a as_o the_o whole_a christendom_n full_a well_o know_v therefore_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v not_o the_o true_a church_n second_o and_o consider_v be_v not_o the_o company_n of_o priest_n one_o in_o hosea_n day_n who_o murder_v in_o the_o way_n by_o consent_n who_o the_o prophet_n compare_v to_o troop_n of_o robber_n hos_fw-la 6.9_o and_o be_v not_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n one_o as_o they_o be_v for_o have_v not_o she_o murder_v many_o by_o consent_n of_o most_o of_o her_o member_n in_o the_o way_n that_o she_o be_v in_o consider_v these_o thing_n but_o then_o a._n s._n say_v that_o she_o be_v one_o in_o matter_n of_o faith_n and_o govern_v by_o one_o invisible_a head_n christ_n and_o by_o one_o visible_a head_n the_o pope_n the_o true_a successor_n of_o peter_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o she_o be_v the_o true_a church_n answ_n 1._o i_o answer_v that_o she_o be_v perfect_o unite_v in_o matter_n of_o faith_n i_o utter_o deny_v witness_v the_o history_n of_o the_o counsel_n of_o trent_n which_o copious_o relate_v the_o division_n and_o contradiction_n among_o they_o there_o about_o matter_n of_o faith_n but_o admit_v that_o it_o be_v so_o that_o she_o be_v one_o in_o matter_n of_o faith_n that_o do_v not_o prove_v she_o to_o be_v the_o true_a church_n unless_o she_o can_v prove_v her_o faith_n to_o be_v the_o true_a faith_n by_o which_o righteousness_n be_v wrought_v heb._n 11.13_o and_o which_o be_v make_v perfect_a by_o work_n of_o righteousness_n james_n 2.22_o but_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v not_o the_o true_a faith_n as_o her_o work_n of_o unrighteousness_n before_o mention_v clear_o make_v manifest_a therefore_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v not_o the_o true_a church_n second_o that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v govern_v by_o one_o invisible_a head_n christ_n that_o i_o also_o deny_v and_o her_o fruit_n before_o mention_v and_o that_o which_o i_o shall_v hereafter_o mention_v sufficient_o declare_v the_o contrary_a and_o as_o christ_n say_v to_o the_o jew_n if_o you_o be_v of_o abraham_n you_o will_v do_v the_o work_n of_o abraham_n but_o 2.16_o but_o she_o have_v not_o the_o mind_n of_o christ_n witness_v she_o destroy_v the_o life_n of_o many_o not_o only_o of_o those_o that_o believe_v not_o but_o of_o those_o that_o believe_v therefore_o she_o be_v not_o govern_v by_o the_o invisible_a head_n christ_n and_o consequent_o be_v not_o the_o true_a church_n but_o the_o whore_n that_o drink_v the_o blood_n of_o the_o saint_n three_o but_o that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v govern_v by_o her_o visible_a head_n the_o pope_n i_o shall_v not_o go_v about_o to_o contradict_v for_o although_o that_o prove_v she_o to_o be_v one_o in_o subjection_n to_o the_o pope_n yet_o it_o do_v not_o prove_v she_o to_o be_v the_o true_a church_n because_o christ_n never_o ordain_v a_o visible_a head_n to_o his_o church_n but_o that_o the_o pope_n be_v the_o true_a successor_n of_o peter_n as_o a._n s._n affirm_v that_o i_o do_v deny_v and_o it_o remain_v for_o he_o to_o prove_v it_o or_o for_o some_o of_o his_o servant_n to_o do_v it_o for_o he_o for_o after_o peter_n be_v convert_v he_o never_o give_v consent_n to_o the_o murder_n of_o any_o as_o the_o pope_n have_v do_v many_o therefore_o he_o be_v not_o the_o true_a successor_n of_o peter_n 2._o that_o the_o true_a chu_n ch_z be_v holy_a or_o as_o a._n s._n say_v the_o spotless_a body_n of_o christ_n that_o i_o do_v acknowledge_v but_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n with_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o with_o fire_n the_o spirit_n of_o judgement_n and_o of_o burn_v and_o thereby_o her_o filth_n and_o her_o spot_n be_v purge_v away_o from_o she_o and_o she_o be_v wash_v from_o idolatry_n and_o covetousness_n etc._n etc._n as_o the_o apostle_n testify_v 1_o cor._n 6.11_o and_o thereby_o she_o be_v fit_v for_o god_n kingdom_n and_o be_v make_v to_o sit_v together_o in_o heavenly_a place_n in_o christ_n jesus_n and_o have_v the_o mind_n of_o christ_n 1_o cor._n 2.16_o who_o come_v not_o to_o destroy_v man_n life_n etc._n etc._n luk._n 9.56_o but_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v not_o wash_v from_o idolatry_n nor_o free_a from_o murder_n as_o her_o worship_v of_o idol_n or_o image_n do_v testify_v and_o as_o her_o kill_n and_o destroy_v about_o religion_n and_o worship_n bear_v witness_n which_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n never_o allow_v of_o not_o the_o spotless_a body_n of_o christ_n never_o practise_v therefore_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v not_o holy_a nor_o the_o spotless_a body_n of_o christ_n and_o as_o to_o that_o affirmation_n of_o a._n s._n in_o the_o three_o number_n of_o his_o first_o chapter_n viz._n every_o man_n as_o he_o be_v regenerate_v in_o christ_n and_o a_o member_n of_o his_o body_n be_v holy_a and_o a_o saint_n though_o as_o he_o be_v the_o son_n of_o adam_n be_v be_v a_o liar_n and_o a_o sinner_n answ_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o the_o most_o part_n of_o all_o the_o sectary_n in_o the_o world_n will_v join_v with_o he_o in_o that_o particular_a therefore_o he_o need_v not_o so_o much_o cry_v against_o they_o but_o the_o true_a church_n will_v not_o own_o that_o doctrine_n neither_o can_v i_o own_v it_o because_o it_o be_v the_o doctrine_n of_o devil_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n testify_v against_o
therefore_o she_o be_v infallible_a i_o answer_v he_o have_v not_o at_o all_o confirm_v that_o by_o any_o proof_n neither_o have_v he_o any_o far_a proof_n than_o his_o own_o affirmation_n except_o he_o will_v produee_v that_o say_n of_o the_o mother_n of_o harlot_n viz._n i_o sit_v as_o a_o queen_n and_o be_o no_o widow_n and_o shall_v see_v no_o sorrow_n rev._n 18.7_o and_o indeed_o that_o will_v be_v a_o very_a pitiful_a argument_n to_o prove_v the_o church_n of_o rome_n infallible_a but_o none_o other_o can_v he_o produce_v except_o he_o can_v first_o prove_v she_o to_o be_v the_o true_a church_n which_o he_o be_v never_o able_a to_o do_v his_o best_a argument_n by_o which_o he_o have_v undertake_v it_o be_v already_o confute_v therefore_o we_o have_v no_o more_o cause_n to_o believe_v his_o affirmation_n than_o we_o have_v to_o believe_v the_o say_n of_o the_o forementioned_a mother_n of_o harlot_n for_o they_o be_v both_o alike_o to_o we_o and_o though_o she_o say_v she_o shall_v see_v no_o sorrow_n yet_o john_n who_o be_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n say_v that_o in_o one_o day_n her_o desolation_n shall_v come_v rev._n 18.8_o and_o although_o a._n s._n say_v that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n shall_v always_o remain_v to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n yet_o i_o say_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o by_o the_o same_o spirit_n that_o john_n be_v in_o that_o the_o one_o day_n of_o which_o john_n speak_v be_v already_o dawn_v in_o which_o the_o desolation_n of_o that_o great_a whore_n the_o church_n of_o rome_n shall_v come_v and_o as_o sure_o as_o when_o sodom_n be_v overthrow_v the_o city_n round_o about_o it_o be_v overthrow_v also_o 2_o pet._n 2.9_o judas_n ver_fw-la 7._o so_o certain_o when_o this_o great_a city_n babylon_n be_v overthrow_v and_o make_v desolate_a the_o suburb_n thereof_o shall_v be_v overthrow_v and_o make_v desolate_a also_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o lord_n have_v speak_v it_o and_o therefore_o she_o must_v be_v conclude_v on_o by_o the_o former_a and_o sure_o both_o can_v be_v infallible_a they_o be_v quite_o contradictory_n one_o to_o the_o other_o read_v the_o 15_o chapter_n of_o f._n h._n his_o book_n entitle_v the_o glory_n of_o the_o true_a church_n discover_v etc._n etc._n wherein_o the_o contradiction_n of_o the_o general_a counsel_n which_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n have_v hold_v be_v sufficient_o make_v manifest_a so_o that_o i_o need_v not_o trouble_v myself_o to_o insert_v they_o here_o and_o thereby_o its_o evident_a enough_o that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v not_o infallible_a five_o again_o if_o a._n s._n or_o any_o other_o can_v prove_v that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n have_v always_o remain_v since_o christ_n time_n yet_o as_o aforesaid_a that_o be_v not_o a_o sufficient_a argument_n to_o prove_v her_o infallible_a or_o that_o she_o can_v fail_v nor_o cease_v for_o consider_v the_o dragon_n that_o old_a serpent_n call_v the_o devil_n who_o be_v a_o murderer_n from_o the_o beginning_n who_o give_v power_n to_o the_o beast_n that_o carry_v the_o whore_n that_o drink_v the_o saint_n blood_n that_o say_v she_o shall_v see_v no_o sorrow_n be_v before_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n appearance_n in_o the_o flesh_n yet_o the_o dragon_n be_v not_o infallible_a but_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v uphold_v by_o the_o murderer_n or_o carry_v by_o the_o dragon_n power_n in_o the_o beast_n as_o the_o murder_v act_v by_o she_o bear_v witness_n therefore_o she_o be_v no_o more_o infallible_a than_o the_o dragon_n be_v seven_o and_o as_o to_o the_o seven_o part_n of_o a._n s._n his_o argument_n wherein_o he_o say_v the_o true_a church_n be_v inerrable_a and_o then_o say_v that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v this_o inerrable_a true_a church_n for_o all_o the_o sectary_n schismatic_n and_o heretic_n in_o the_o world_n say_v he_o can_v never_o yet_o show_v wherein_o she_o err_v nor_o ever_o shall_v therefore_o she_o be_v inerrable_a answ_n 1._o i_o answer_v although_o the_o heretic_n can_v not_o prove_v that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n have_v err_v yet_o there_o be_v many_o who_o be_v member_n of_o the_o true_a church_n of_o which_o christ_n be_v head_n and_o supreme_a governor_n alone_o that_o can_v prove_v wherein_o she_o have_v err_v and_o do_v still_o gross_o err_v from_o the_o doctrine_n practice_n and_o discipline_n of_o the_o true_a church_n as_o it_o stand_v in_o the_o apostle_n day_n for_o the_o apostle_n in_o his_o day_n say_v let_v every_o man_n be_v full_o persuade_v in_o his_o own_o conscience_n rom._n 14.5_o and_o do_v not_o go_v about_o to_o force_v people_n to_o conform_v to_o such_o thing_n that_o they_o be_v not_o persuade_v of_o in_o their_o conscience_n nor_o to_o compel_v they_o by_o outward_a law_n to_o conform_v thereunto_o but_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n do_v not_o admit_v that_o every_o one_o shall_v walk_v or_o act_v according_a as_o they_o be_v persuade_v in_o their_o own_o conscience_n but_o go_v about_o by_o outward_a law_n to_o compel_v they_o to_o conform_v to_o that_o which_o she_o call_v her_o holy_a ordinance_n and_o institution_n which_o many_o for_o conscience_n sake_n towards_o god_n dare_v not_o conform_v to_o because_o they_o know_v they_o to_o be_v invent_v idolatry_n and_o they_o who_o can_v for_o conscience_n sake_n submit_v to_o her_o imposition_n or_o drink_v of_o her_o cup_n of_o abomination_n then_o to_o be_v sure_o she_o will_v drink_v their_o blood_n witness_v the_o blood_n she_o have_v drink_v for_o above_o this_o thousand_o year_n pass_v of_o they_o that_o can_v not_o for_o conscience_n sake_n towards_o god_n conform_v to_o her_o ordinance_n and_o therefore_o she_o have_v err_v from_o that_o spirit_n which_o be_v in_o the_o true_a church_n and_o from_o the_o apostle_n doctrine_n and_o be_v still_o in_o the_o error_n second_o in_o the_o true_a church_n in_o the_o apostle_n day_n every_o one_o as_o he_o have_v receive_v the_o gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n so_o he_o may_v administer_v 1_o pet._n 4.10_o and_o the_o prophet_n may_v speak_v two_o or_o three_o and_o if_o any_o thing_n be_v reveal_v to_o he_o that_o stand_v by_o supernatural_a light_n be_v the_o true_a touchstone_n by_o which_o all_o spitit_n may_v be_v try_v whether_o they_o be_v of_o god_n or_o not_o for_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v whatsoever_o make_v manifest_a be_v light_n ephesian_n 5.13_o so_o that_o without_o this_o touchstone_n none_o can_v try_v spirit_n because_o a_o evil_a spirit_n may_v speak_v good_a word_n again_o christ_n be_v in_o
