dis●cord_n what_o occasion_v the_o lord_n to_o proclaim_v this_o enmity_n ans._n adam_n si●ne_n in_o eat_v the_o forbid_a fruit_n a●d_v satan_n malice_n in_o move_v and_o seduce_v he_o thereunto_o be_v the_o meritorious_a cause_n the_o original_a of_o this_o discord_n threefold_a be_v from_o original_a sin_n quest._n what_o be_v the_o final_a cause_n or_o end_v why_o god_n proclaim_v it_o ans._n his_o end_n be_v threefold_a in_o regard_n of_o himself_o the_o wicked_a and_o the_o godly_a 1_o in_o regard_n of_o himself_o his_o principal_a ●nd_n be_v his_o own_o glory_n which_o shall_v a●ise_v from_o the_o manifestation_n or_o admirable_a composition_n of_o his_o justice_n mercy_n holiness_n wisdom_n power_n and_o providence_n herein_o 2_o in_o regard_n of_o satan_n and_o wicked_a men●_n that_o he_o may_v for_o the_o present_a punish_v one_o sin_n with_o another_o and_o in_o the_o end_n take_v due_a vengeance_n on_o they_o in_o their_o great_a condemnation_n and_o final_a ruin_n and_o destruction_n 3._o in_o regard_n of_o the_o godly_a for_o their_o great_a good_a as_o namely_o that_o they_o may_v by_o this_o affliction_n and_o chastisement_n be_v stop_v in_o their_o course_n of_o sin_n be_v bring_v to_o the_o ●ight_n of_o their_o evil_n pas●_n and_o make_v repent_v of_o they_o and_o prevent_v from_o si●ning_v for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v and_o last_o to_o keep_v they_o in_o continual_a exercise_n that_o so_o they_o may_v walk_v on_o in_o the_o way_n of_o holiness_n which_o will_v bring_v they_o to_o eternal_a happiness_n and_o not_o to_o be_v condemn_v with_o the_o world_n sin_n sect_n 9_o quest._n but_o how_o can_v god_n be_v the_o author_n of_o it_o without_o be_v the_o author_n of_o sin_n ans._n very_o well_o even_o as_o the_o temporal_a magistrate_n may_v put_v a_o fello●_n to_o death_n without_o commit_v of_o murder_n that_o he_o which_o be_v the_o fountain_n of_o all_o good_a be_v not_o the_o author_n of_o any_o evil_n herein_o may_v appear_v reason_n 1._o by_o consider_v how_o the_o case_n stand_v at_o this_o time_n with_o adam_n and_o all_o his_o posterity_n be_v condemn_v person_n every_o moment_n expect_v and_o wait_v for_o that_o direful_a sentence_n to_o be_v execute_v and_o inflict_v upon_o they_o which_o god_n before_o have_v threaten_v in_o case_n they_o shall_v transgress_v his_o royal_a command_n gen._n 2.17_o namely_o the_o sentence_n of_o death_n which_o be_v threefold_a viz._n of_o body_n which_o be_v the_o temporal_a death_n soul_n which_o be_v the_o spiritual_a death_n body_n and_o soul_n which_o be_v eternal_a death_n opposite_a to_o that_o threefold_a life_n of_o nature_n grace_n glory_n the_o which_o if_o it_o have_v be_v full_o and_o universal_o accomplish_v we_o can_v have_v have_v nothing_o to_o say_v but_o that_o god_n be_v just_a as_o now_o we_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o give_v why_o so_o many_o shall_v be_v redeem_a but_o because_o he_o be_v merciful_a yet_o because_o he_o will_v according_a to_o his_o nature_n in_o justice_n remember_v mercy_n he_o ordain_v a_o saviour_n and_o remedy_n even_o christ_n employ_v in_o the_o pronoune_n relative_n he_o for_o so_o many_o as_o he_o have_v before_o predestinate_v to_o be_v bear_v again_o by_o his_o word_n and_o spirit_n john_n 3._o to_o a_o lively_a faith_n whereby_o they_o may_v lay_v hold_n on_o this_o remedy_n yet_o with_o all_o he_o do_v appoint_v that_o this_o their_o way_n to_o heaven_n shall_v be_v thorny_a and_o troublesome_a to_o which_o end_n he_o mix_v with_o the_o sweet_a promise_n of_o salvation_n the_o bitter_a ingredient_n of_o grief_n and_o sorrow_n employ_v in_o the_o word_n enmity_n but_o yet_o more_o to_o justify_v this_o judgement_n of_o god_n that_o be_v to_o make_v it_o appear_v just_a reason_n 2_o it_o will_v appear_v if_o we_o distinguish_v the_o end_n of_o god_n satan_n and_o wicked_a man_n to_o which_o purpose_n i_o will_v instance_n in_o our_o saviour_n example_n judas_n deliver_v he_o to_o death_n for_o gain_v the_o jew_n for_o envy_n pilate_n for_o fear_n the_o devil_n provoke_v each_o of_o they_o through_o this_o enmity_n christ_n himself_o to_o obey_v his_o father_n will_n god_n the_o father_n in_o love_n to_o sinner_n and_o for_o their_o redemption_n each_o do_v one_o and_o the_o same_o thing_n but_o to_o contrary_a end_n so_o when_o this_o enmity_n break_v forth_o in_o the_o wicked_a satan_n have_v a_o hand_n in_o it_o as_o a_o malicious_a author_n as_o when_o he_o enter_v into_o judas_n and_o make_v he_o betray_v christ_n clear_v luk_n 22.3_o man_n himself_o as_o a_o voluntary_a instrument_n as_o when_o pharaoh_n harden_v his_o own_o heart_n against_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n exod._n 9.34_o god_n as_o a_o most_o righteous_a judge_n and_o avenger_n as_o when_o he_o also_o harden_v pharoahs_n heart_n exod._n 9.12_o but_o how_o even_o by_o permit_v the_o seed_n of_o the_o serpent_n from_o his_o own_o malicious_a inclination_n to_o hate_v the_o seed_n of_o the_o woman_n not_o by_o infuse_v this_o malice_n nor_o by_o withdraw_v any_o grace_n but_o only_o by_o deny_v that_o grace_n which_o he_o be_v not_o bind_v to_o give_v he_o do_v not_o infuse_v corruption_n he_o do_v not_o with_o hold_v the_o occasion_n even_o as_o when_o the_o rider_n give_v his_o fiery_a horse_n the_o reins_n we_o say_v he_o put_v he_o on_o in_o mercy_n infuse_v this_o enmity_n into_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o woman_n against_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o serpent_n not_o against_o their_o person_n as_o they_o be_v his_o creature_n but_o only_o against_o their_o condition_n disposition_n and_o wicked_a conversation_n we_o and_o the_o devil_n shall_v never_o have_v fall_v out_o we_o agree_v but_o too_o well_o but_o that_o god_n have_v put_v a_o enmity_n between_o we_o yea_o in_o the_o last_o place_n as_o god_n turn_v the_o treachery_n of_o judas_n not_o only_o to_o the_o praise_n of_o his_o justice_n mercy_n etc._n etc._n but_o to_o the_o good_a of_o all_o believer_n so_o he_o turn_v this_o enmity_n of_o satan_n and_o wicked_a man_n to_o his_o child_n great_a advantage_n and_o his_o own_o glory_n adversi●ties_n and_o hereupon_o be_v that_o distinction_n of_o adversity_n as_o they_o come_v from_o satan_n they_o be_v usual_o call_v temptation_n as_o they_o come_v from_o man_n
