god_n in_o his_o name_n the_o other_o point_n be_v how_o god_n be_v our_o object_n and_o that_o be_v in_o his_o name_n for_o prayer_n be_v a_o call_n upon_o the_o name_n of_o god_n i_o will_v take_v the_o cup_n of_o salvation_n say_v the_o psalmist_n 116.13_o psalmist_n ps_n 116.13_o and_o call_v on_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o the_o apostle_n say_v 10.13_o say_v rom._n 10.13_o whosoever_o shall_v call_v on_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n shall_v be_v save_v the_o name_n of_o god_n be_v any_o significant_a title_n attribute_v to_o he_o for_o our_o capacity_n i._o then_o prayer_n be_v not_o a_o confuse_a calling_n upon_o god_n but_o he_o that_o pray_v must_v know_v how_o the_o lord_n have_v reveal_v himself_o in_o the_o word_n that_o so_o according_o he_o may_v conceive_v of_o he_o how_o shall_v they_o call_v on_o he_o say_v the_o apostle_n 10.14_o apostle_n rom._n 10.14_o in_o who_o they_o have_v not_o believe_v and_o how_o shall_v they_o believe_v in_o he_o of_o who_o they_o have_v not_o hear_v 2._o 2._o ii_o in_o the_o second_o place_n we_o must_v not_o only_o know_v god_n to_o who_o we_o pray_v in_o some_o good_a measure_n but_o we_o be_v also_o to_o consider_v those_o propriety_n in_o god_n which_o do_v the_o best_a sort_n with_o our_o matter_n as_o if_o our_o speech_n concern_v the_o search_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o the_o lord_n know_v of_o our_o sin_n we_o must_v consider_v his_o omniscience_n if_o our_o misery_n to_o be_v confess_v and_o how_o he_o may_v deal_v with_o we_o then_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v his_o justice_n if_o pardon_n his_o mercy_n if_o help_n his_o power_n if_o faith_n and_o hope_n his_o unchangeable_a verity_n etc._n etc._n a_o example_n hereof_o we_o have_v in_o david_n 1._o david_n psal_n 4_o 1._o hear_v i_o call_v o_o god_n of_o my_o righteousness_n say_v he_o thou_o have_v set_v i_o at_o liberty_n in_o a_o strait_n be_v gracious_a unto_o i_o and_o hear_v my_o prayer_n here_o the_o psalmist_n three_o way_n affect_v consider_v the_o lord_n answerable_o in_o three_o propriety_n i._o as_o a_o innocent_a he_o do_v consider_v the_o lord_n as_o patron_n of_o innocent_n and_o innocent_a cause_n hear_v i_o call_v o_o god_n of_o my_o righteousness_n ii_o be_v in_o misery_n and_o great_a distress_n he_o call_v to_o mind_v the_o gracious_a providence_n of_o the_o lord_n confirm_v by_o the_o experience_n of_o former_a deliverance_n thou_o have_v set_v i_o at_o liberty_n in_o a_o strait_n iii_o in_o the_o sense_n of_o his_o frailty_n from_o which_o none_o be_v free_a and_o for_o which_o the_o lord_n may_v just_o reject_v he_o he_o appeal_v unto_o mercy_n be_v gracious_a unto_o i_o and_o hear_v my_o prayer_n and_o thus_o do_v we_o shall_v find_v the_o relation_n between_o the_o propriety_n in_o god_n and_o their_o object_n in_o we_o a_o powerful_a mean_n to_o move_v we_o touch_v humiliation_n or_o consolation_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o object_n of_o prayer_n to_o wit_n god_n and_o that_o in_o his_o name_n that_o be_v so_o conceive_v and_o call_v upon_o as_o he_o have_v please_v for_o our_o direction_n and_o comfort_n to_o make_v himself_o know_v unto_o us._n §._o 6._o prayer_n how_o to_o conceive_v of_o god_n in_o prayer_n here_o before_o we_o proceed_v we_o will_v answer_v two_o question_n the_o first_o whereof_o be_v this_o quest_n how_o shall_v a_o man_n conceive_v of_o god_n in_o prayer_n thou_o must_v touch_v thy_o pray_n note_v three_o thing_n i._n thy_o present_v thyself_o ii_o thy_o prayer_n iii_o thy_o action_n and_o gesture_n answ_n god_n be_v the_o object_n of_o all_o these_o but_o
