have_v to_o secure_v our_o peace_n and_o comfort_n against_o the_o pretence_n of_o sin_n unto_o the_o disquietment_n of_o our_o conscience_n let_v we_o endeavour_v to_o preserve_v a_o experience_n of_o the_o rule_n of_o grace_n in_o our_o heart_n col._n iij._o 15._o under_o a_o conduct_n and_o rule_n whence_o our_o state_n be_v denominate_v we_o be_v and_o must_v be_v this_o be_v either_o of_o sin_n or_o grace_n there_o be_v no_o composition_n nor_o copartnership_n between_o they_o as_o to_o rule_v as_o to_o residence_n there_o be_v but_o not_o as_o unto_o rule_n if_o we_o can_v assure_v evidence_n and_o experience_n of_o our_o be_v under_o the_o rule_n of_o grace_n and_o it_o will_v evidence_n itself_o if_o we_o be_v not_o want_v unto_o a_o due_a observation_n of_o its_o act_n and_o operation_n in_o we_o and_o it_o will_v do_v it_o among_o other_o these_o two_o way_n 1._o by_o keep_v up_o a_o constancy_n of_o design_n in_o live_v to_o god_n and_o after_o conformity_n unto_o christ_n notwithstanding_o the_o interposition_n of_o surprisal_n by_o temptation_n and_o the_o most_o urgent_a solicitation_n of_o sin_n this_o be_v call_v cleave_v unto_o god_n with_o purpose_n of_o heart_n act_v xi_o 23._o this_o will_v be_v wherever_o grace_n have_v the_o rule_n as_o a_o man_n that_o go_v to_o sea_n design_n some_o certain_a place_n and_o port_n whither_o he_o guide_v his_o course_n in_o his_o way_n he_o meet_v it_o may_v be_v with_o storm_n and_o cross_a wind_n that_o drive_v he_o out_o of_o his_o course_n and_o sometime_o direct_o backward_a towards_o the_o place_n where_o he_o set_v forth_o but_o his_o design_n still_o hold_v and_o in_o the_o pursuit_n thereof_o he_o apply_v his_o skill_n and_o industry_n to_o retrieve_v and_o recover_v all_o its_o loss_n and_o back-drivings_a by_o cross_a wind_n and_o storm_n so_o be_v it_o with_o a_o soul_n under_o the_o conduct_n of_o grace_n its_o fix_a design_n be_v to_o live_v unto_o god_n but_o in_o its_o course_n it_o meet_v with_o storm_n and_o cross_a wind_n of_o temptation_n and_o various_a artifices_fw-la of_o sin._n these_o disturb_v he_o disorder_n he_o drive_v he_o backward_o sometime_o as_o if_o it_o will_v take_v a_o contrary_a course_n and_o return_v unto_o the_o coast_n of_o sin_n from_o whence_o it_o set_v out_o but_o where_o grace_n have_v the_o rule_n and_o conduct_v it_o will_v weather_v all_o these_o opposition_n and_o obstruction_n it_o will_v restore_v the_o soul_n bring_v it_o again_o into_o order_n recover_v it_o from_o the_o confusion_n and_o evil_a frames_n that_o it_o be_v draw_v into_o it_o will_v give_v a_o fresh_a predominancy_n unto_o its_o prevalent_a design_n of_o live_v unto_o god_n in_o all_o thing_n it_o will_v do_v this_o constant_o as_o often_o as_o the_o soul_n meet_v with_o such_o ruffle_n from_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n when_o there_o be_v a_o radical_a firmitude_n and_o strength_n in_o a_o cause_n or_o design_n it_o will_v work_v itself_o out_o through_o all_o change_n and_o variation_n but_o when_o the_o strength_n of_o any_o cause_n be_v but_o occasion_n the_o first_o opposition_n and_o disorder_n will_v ruin_v we_o so_o if_o man_n purpose_n of_o live_v unto_o god_n be_v only_o occasional_a from_o present_a conviction_n the_o first_o vigorous_a opposition_n or_o temptation_n will_v disorder_v it_o and_o overthrow_v it_o but_o where_o this_o be_v the_o radical_a design_n of_o the_o soul_n from_o the_o power_n of_o grace_n it_o will_v break_v through_o all_o such_o opposition_n and_o recover_v its_o prevalency_n in_o the_o mind_n and_o affection_n hereby_o do_v it_o evidence_n its_o rule_n and_o that_o the_o whole_a interest_n of_o sin_n in_o the_o soul_n be_v by_o rebellion_n and_o not_o by_o virtue_n of_o dominion_n 2._o it_o do_v so_o by_o keep_v up_o a_o constant_a exercise_n of_o grace_n in_o all_o religious_a duty_n or_o at_o least_o a_o sincere_a endeavour_n that_o so_o it_o may_v be_v where_o sin_n have_v the_o dominion_n it_o can_v allow_v the_o soul_n to_o perform_v religious_a duty_n yea_o in_o some_o case_n to_o abound_v in_o they_o but_o it_o will_v take_v care_n that_o divine_a grace_n be_v not_o exercise_v in_o they_o whatever_o there_o may_v be_v of_o delight_n in_o duty_n or_o other_o motion_n of_o affection_n which_o light_n and_o gift_n and_o affliction_n and_o superstition_n will_v occasion_v there_o be_v no_o exercise_n of_o divine_a faith_n and_o love_n in_o they_o this_o belong_v essential_o and_o inseparable_o unto_o the_o rule_n of_o grace_n wherever_o that_o bear_v sway_v the_o soul_n will_v endeavour_v the_o constant_a exercise_n of_o grace_n in_o all_o its_o duty_n and_o never_o be_v satisfy_v in_o the_o work_n do_v without_o some_o sense_n of_o it_o where_o it_o fail_v therein_o it_o will_v judge_v itself_o and_o watch_v against_o the_o like_a surprisal_n yea_o unless_o it_o be_v in_o case_n of_o some_o great_a temptation_n the_o present_a sense_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o high_a obstruction_n against_o that_o
the_o word_n though_o it_o be_v the_o case_n of_o multitude_n that_o attend_v unto_o it_o 2._o to_o satisfy_v some_o that_o sin_n have_v not_o the_o dominion_n over_o they_o notwithstanding_o its_o restless_a act_v itself_o in_o they_o and_o ware_v against_o their_o soul_n yet_o unless_o this_o can_v be_v do_v it_o be_v impossible_a they_o shall_v enjoy_v solid_a peace_n and_o comfort_n in_o freedom_n of_o mind_n and_o humility_n the_o more_o they_o love_v to_o know_v of_o the_o deceit_n activity_n and_o power_n of_o the_o remainder_n of_o sin._n and_o although_o it_o work_v not_o at_o all_o at_o least_o not_o sensible_o in_o they_o towards_o those_o sin_n wherein_o it_o reign_v and_o rage_v in_o other_o yet_o they_o be_v able_a to_o discern_v its_o more_o subtle_a inward_a and_o spiritual_a act_n in_o the_o mind_n and_o heart_n to_o the_o weaken_n of_o grace_n the_o obstruct_n of_o its_o effectual_a operation_n in_o holy_a duty_n with_o many_o indisposition_n unto_o stability_n in_o the_o life_n of_o god_n which_o fill_v they_o with_o trouble_n chap._n iii_o the_o second_o enquiry_n speak_v to_o whether_o sin_n have_v dominion_n in_o we_o or_o no_o in_o answer_n to_o which_o it_o be_v show_v that_o some_o wear_v sin_n be_v livery_n and_o they_o be_v the_o profess_a servant_n thereof_o there_o be_v many_o in_o which_o the_o case_n be_v dubious_a where_o sin_n be_v service_n be_v not_o so_o discernible_a several_a exception_n be_v put_v in_o against_o its_o dominion_n where_o it_o seem_v to_o prevail_v some_o certain_a sign_n of_o its_o dominion_n grace_n and_o duty_n to_o be_v exercise_v for_o its_o mortification_n these_o thing_n be_v thus_o premise_v in_o general_a concern_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n we_o shall_v now_o proceed_v unto_o our_o principal_a enquiry_n namely_o whether_o sin_n have_v dominion_n in_o we_o or_o no_o whereby_o we_o may_v know_v whether_o we_o be_v under_o the_o law_n or_o under_o grace_n or_o what_o be_v the_o state_n of_o our_o soul_n towards_o god._n a_o enquiry_n this_o be_v which_o be_v very_o necessary_a for_o some_o to_o make_v and_o for_o all_o to_o have_v right_o determine_v they_o can_v themselves_o deny_v that_o it_o be_v so_o with_o they_o i_o speak_v not_o for_o the_o liberty_n of_o censure_v but_o for_o the_o easiness_n of_o judge_v those_o who_o open_o wear_v sin_n be_v livery_n may_v well_o be_v esteem_v to_o be_v sin_n be_v servant_n and_o they_o shall_v not_o fail_v to_o receive_v sin_n be_v wages_n let_v they_o at_o present_a bear_v it_o never_o so_o high_a and_o despise_v all_o manner_n of_o conviction_n they_o will_v find_v it_o bitterness_n in_o the_o latter_a end_n isa._n l._n 11._o eccles._n xi_o 9_o 2._o but_o there_o be_v many_o in_o who_o the_o case_n be_v dubious_a and_o not_o easy_a to_o be_v determine_v for_o on_o the_o one_o hand_n they_o may_v have_v sundry_a thing_n in_o they_o which_o seem_v repugnant_a unto_o the_o reign_n of_o sin_n but_o indeed_o be_v not_o inconsistent_a with_o it_o all_o argument_n and_o plea_n from_o they_o in_o their_o vindication_n may_v fail_v they_o on_o a_o trial_n and_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n there_o may_v be_v some_o in_o who_o the_o effectual_a work_n of_o sin_n may_v be_v so_o great_a and_o perplex_v as_o to_o argue_v that_o it_o have_v the_o dominion_n when_o indeed_o it_o have_v not_o but_o be_v only_o a_o stubborn_a rebel_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o first_o sort_n which_o seem_v destructive_a of_o and_o inconsistent_a with_o the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n but_o indeed_o be_v not_o may_v be_v refer_v to_o five_o head_n 1._o illumination_n in_o knowledge_n and_o spiritual_a gift_n with_o conviction_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a of_o all_o know_a duty_n and_o sin_n this_o be_v that_o which_o some_o man_n live_v in_o a_o perpetual_a rebellion_n against_o in_o one_o instance_n or_o another_o 2._o a_o change_n in_o the_o affection_n give_v a_o temporary_a delight_n in_o religious_a duty_n with_o some_o constancy_n in_o their_o observation_n this_o also_o be_v find_v in_o many_o who_o be_v yet_o evident_o under_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n and_o spiritual_a darkness_n 3._o a_o performance_n of_o many_o duty_n both_o moral_a and_o evangelical_n for_o the_o substance_n of_o they_o and_o a_o abstinence_n out_o of_o conscience_n from_o many_o sin_n so_o be_v it_o with_o the_o young_a man_n in_o the_o gospel_n who_o yet_o want_v what_o be_v necessary_a to_o free_v he_o from_o the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n matth._n nineteeen_o 20_o 21_o 22_o 23._o 4._o repentance_n for_o sin_n commit_v this_o be_v that_o which_o most_o secure_a themselves_o by_o and_o a_o bless_a security_n it_o be_v when_o it_o be_v gracious_a evangelical_n a_o fruit_n of_o faith_n comprise_v the_o return_n of_o the_o whole_a soul_n to_o god._n but_o there_o be_v that_o which_o be_v legal_a partial_a respect_v particular_a sin_n only_o which_o be_v not_o pleadable_a in_o this_o case_n ahab_n be_v no_o less_o under_o the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n when_o he_o have_v repent_v he_o that_o he_o be_v before_o and_o judas_n repent_v he_o before_o he_o hang_v himself_o 5._o promise_n and_o resolution_n against_o sin_n for_o the_o future_a but_o the_o goodness_n of_o many_o in_o these_o thing_n be_v like_o the_o morning_n cloud_n and_o as_o the_o early_a dew_n it_o pass_v away_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o prophet_n hos._n vi_fw-la 4._o where_o there_o be_v a_o concurrence_n of_o these_o thing_n in_o any_o they_o have_v good_a hope_n at_o least_o that_o they_o be_v not_o under_o to_o evidence_n the_o sincerity_n of_o faith_n and_o holiness_n no_o man_n therefore_o can_v be_v acquit_v by_o plea_n take_v from_o they_o as_o unto_o their_o subjection_n to_o the_o reign_n of_o sin._n the_o thing_n of_o the_o second_o sort_n whence_o argument_n may_v be_v take_v to_o prove_v the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n in_o any_o person_n which_o yet_o will_v not_o certain_o do_v it_o be_v unto_o and_o affect_v they_o all_o but_o 2._o it_o do_v evidence_n its_o dominion_n and_o be_v to_o be_v try_v by_o its_o act_n in_o the_o distinct_a faculty_n of_o the_o mind_n in_o the_o frame_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o in_o the_o course_n of_o the_o life_n these_o be_v those_o
by_o his_o actual_a adultery_n but_o of_o his_o heart_n by_o impure_a imagination_n so_o it_o may_v be_v in_o case_n of_o other_o temptation_n whilst_o man_n be_v entangle_v with_o any_o temptation_n of_o what_o sort_n soever_o it_o be_v it_o will_v multiply_v thought_n about_o it_o in_o the_o mind_n yea_o its_o whole_a power_n consist_v in_o a_o multiplication_n of_o evil_a imagination_n by_o they_o it_o blind_v the_o mind_n draw_v it_o off_o from_o the_o consideration_n of_o its_o duty_n and_o entice_v it_o unto_o a_o full_a conception_n of_o sin_n jam._n i._n 14._o wherefore_o in_o this_o case_n of_o a_o prevalent_a temptation_n which_o may_v befall_v a_o true_a believer_n the_o corrupt_a work_n of_o the_o imagination_n do_v not_o prove_v the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n if_o it_o be_v inquire_v how_o the_o mind_n may_v be_v free_v and_o clear_v of_o these_o perplex_v defile_v imagination_n which_o arise_v from_o the_o urgency_n of_o some_o present_a temptation_n suppose_v about_o earthly_a affair_n or_o the_o like_a i_o say_v it_o will_v never_o be_v do_v by_o the_o most_o strict_a watch_n and_o resolution_n against_o they_o nor_o by_o the_o most_o resolute_a do_v there_o be_v but_o one_o way_n for_o the_o cure_n of_o this_o distemper_n and_o this_o be_v a_o thorough_a mortification_n of_o the_o lust_n that_o feed_v they_o and_o be_v feed_v by_o they_o it_o be_v to_o no_o purpose_n to_o shake_v of_o the_o fruit_n in_o this_o case_n unless_o we_o dig_v up_o the_o root_n every_o temptation_n design_n the_o satisfaction_n of_o some_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n or_o of_o the_o mind_n these_o evil_a thought_n and_o imagination_n be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o temptation_n in_o the_o mind_n there_o be_v no_o riddance_n of_o they_o no_o conquest_n to_o be_v obtain_v over_o they_o but_o by_o subdue_a the_o temptation_n and_o no_o subdue_a the_o temptation_n but_o by_o the_o mortification_n of_o the_o lust_n who_o satisfaction_n it_o be_v design_v unto_o this_o course_n the_o apostle_n direct_v unto_o col._n iij._o 3_o 5._o that_o which_o he_o enjoin_v be_v that_o we_o will_v not_o set_v our_o mind_n on_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o earth_n in_o opposition_n unto_o the_o thing_n above_o that_o be_v that_o we_o will_v not_o fill_v our_o imagination_n and_o thereby_o our_o affection_n with_o they_o but_o what_o be_v the_o way_n whereby_o we_o may_v be_v enable_v so_o to_o do_v that_o be_v say_v he_o the_o universal_a mortification_n of_o sin_n v_o 5._o for_o want_n of_o the_o wisdom_n and_o knowledge_n hereof_o or_o for_o want_v of_o its_o practice_n through_o a_o secret_a unwillingness_n to_o come_v up_o unto_o a_o full_a mortification_n of_o sin_n some_o be_v gall_v and_o perplex_v yea_o and_o defile_v with_o foolish_a and_o vain_a there_o be_v many_o other_o pretence_n of_o they_o they_o do_v not_o direct_o bespeak_v that_o pride_n or_o unclean_a lust_n which_o they_o proceed_v from_o but_o they_o make_v many_o other_o pretence_n and_o feign_v other_o ends._n but_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v watchful_a and_o diligent_a may_v trace_v they_o to_o their_o original_a and_o if_o such_o thought_n be_v strict_o examine_v not_o effect_v it_o in_o any_o but_o they_o will_v go_v on_o froward_o in_o the_o way_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n unless_o god_n take_v some_o extraordinary_a course_n with_o they_o they_o be_v on_o that_o end_n nor_o do_v it_o contain_v nor_o be_v it_o communicative_a of_o the_o grace_n necessary_a unto_o that_o end_n rom._n viij_o 3._o wherefore_o those_o who_o be_v under_o the_o law_n be_v under_o the_o dominion_n of_o sin._n the_o law_n be_v holy_a but_o it_o can_v make_v they_o holy_a who_o have_v make_v themselves_o unholy_a it_o be_v just_a but_o it_o can_v make_v they_o so_o it_o to_o the_o sense_n and_o conscience_n of_o they_o by_o who_o they_o be_v plead_v as_o they_o make_v it_o evident_a every_o day_n we_o pray_v against_o it_o strive_v against_o it_o groan_n for_o deliverance_n from_o it_o and_o that_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n heal_v our_o nature_n not_o without_o success_n howbeit_o this_o success_n extend_v not_o unto_o its_o absolute_a abolition_n whilst_o we_o be_v in_o this_o world._n it_o will_v abide_v in_o we_o until_o the_o union_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o body_n wherein_o it_o have_v incorporate_v itself_o be_v dissolve_v this_o be_v our_o lot_n and_o portion_n this_o be_v the_o consequent_a of_o our_o apostasy_n from_o god_n and_o the_o depravation_n of_o our_o nature_n thereby_o you_o will_v say_v then_o whereto_o serve_v the_o before_o declare_v 3._o there_o be_v mercy_n administer_v in_o and_o by_o the_o gospel_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o all_o that_o be_v evil_a in_o itself_o or_o in_o any_o of_o its_o effect_n there_o be_v no_o condemnation_n unto_o they_o that_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n pardon_v mercy_n according_a to_o the_o tenor_n of_o the_o covenant_n do_v always_o disarm_v this_o sin_n in_o believer_n of_o absolute_o from_o any_o or_o all_o of_o they_o in_o any_o degree_n that_o so_o it_o be_v but_o this_o we_o may_v safe_o conclude_v 1._o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o any_o man_n in_o who_o this_o evil_a frame_n be_v find_v in_o any_o degree_n and_o not_o sincere_o endeavour_v against_o to_o keep_v any_o true_a solid_a peace_n with_o god_n or_o in_o his_o own_o soul_n what_o seem_v to_o be_v so_o in_o he_o be_v but_o a_o ruinous_a security_n 2._o that_o this_o be_v the_o high_a road_n unto_o final_a obduration_n and_o impenitency_n and_o therefore_o 3._o it_o be_v the_o present_a duty_n of_o those_o who_o have_v any_o care_n of_o their_o soul_n to_o shake_v themselves_o out_o of_o this_o dust_n and_o not_o to_o give_v themselves_o any_o rest_n until_o they_o be_v enter_v to_o they_o that_o be_v sincere_a but_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n there_o be_v uncontrollable_a evidence_n of_o the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n in_o man_n some_o whereof_o i_o shall_v mention_v and_o only_o mention_v because_o they_o need_v neither_o proof_n nor_o illustration_n 1._o it_o be_v so_o where_o sin_n have_v possess_v the_o will._n and_o it_o have_v possess_v the_o will_n when_o there_o the_o like_a or_o 4._o live_v in_o the_o neglect_n of_o religious_a duty_n in_o their_o closet_n and_o family_n whence_o all_o their_o public_a attendance_n unto_o they_o be_v but_o hypocrisy_n or_o 5._o have_v a_o enmity_n to_o true_a holiness_n and_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n or_o 6._o be_v visible_a apostate_n from_o profession_n especial_o if_o they_o add_v as_o be_v usual_a persecution_n to_o their_o apostasy_n or_o 7._o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o sanctify_a principle_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o christian_a religion_n or_o 8._o be_v despiser_n of_o the_o mean_n of_o conversion_n or_o 9_o live_v in_o security_n under_o open_a providential_a warning_n and_o call_n to_o repentance_n or_o 10._o be_v enemy_n in_o their_o mind_n unto_o the_o true_a interest_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o world._n where_o these_o thing_n and_o the_o like_a be_v find_v there_o be_v no_o question_n what_o it_o be_v that_o have_v dominion_n and_o bear_v rule_n in_o the_o mind_n of_o men._n this_o all_o man_n may_v easy_o know_v as_o the_o apostle_n declare_v rom._n vi_fw-la 16._o chap._n iii_o the_o three_o enquiry_n handle_v viz._n what_o be_v the_o assurance_n give_v we_o and_o what_o be_v the_o ground_n thereof_o that_o sin_n shall_v not_o have_v dominion_n over_o we_o the_o ground_n of_o this_o assurance_n be_v that_o we_o be_v not_o under_o the_o law_n but_o grace_n the_o force_n of_o this_o reason_n show_v viz._n how_o the_o law_n do_v not_o destroy_v the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n and_o how_o grace_n dethrow_v sin_n and_o give_v dominion_n over_o it_o and_o thus_o much_o have_v be_v speak_v unto_o the_o second_o thing_n propose_v at_o the_o entrance_n of_o this_o discourse_n namely_o a_o enquiry_n whether_o sin_n have_v the_o dominion_n in_o any_o of_o we_o or_o no_o i_o proceed_v unto_o that_o which_o offer_v itself_o from_o the_o word_n in_o the_o three_o place_n what_o be_v the_o assurance_n give_v we_o and_o what_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o it_o ready_a to_o despond_v and_o say_v they_o shall_v one_o day_n perish_v under_o their_o power_n it_o be_v a_o gospel_n word_n a_o word_n of_o good_a tiding_n that_o give_v they_o assurance_n that_o it_o shall_v never_o have_v dominion_n over_o they_o the_o ground_n of_o this_o assurance_n be_v that_o believer_n be_v not_o under_o the_o law_n but_o under_o grace_n and_o the_o force_n of_o this_o reason_n we_o may_v manifest_v in_o some_o few_o instance_n 1._o the_o law_n give_v no_o strength_n against_o sin_n unto_o they_o that_o be_v under_o it_o but_o grace_n do_v sin_n will_v neither_o be_v cast_v nor_o keep_v out_o of_o its_o throne_n but_o by_o a_o spiritual_a power_n and_o strength_n in_o the_o soul_n to_o oppose_v conquer_v and_o dethrow_v it_o where_o it_o be_v not_o conquer_v it_o will_v reign_v and_o conquer_v it_o will_v not_o be_v without_o a_o mighty_a prevail_a power_n this_o the_o law_n will_v not_o can_v give_v the_o law_n be_v take_v two_o way_n 1._o for_o the_o whole_a revelation_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o will_n of_o god_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n in_o this_o sense_n it_o have_v grace_n in_o it_o and_o so_o do_v give_v both_o life_n and_o 〈◊〉_d and_o strength_n against_o sin_n as_o the_o psalmist_n declare_v psal._n nineteeen_o 7_o 8_o 9_o in_o that_o sense_n it_o contain_v not_o only_o the_o law_n of_o precept_n but_o the_o promise_n also_o and_o the_o covenant_n which_o be_v the_o mean_n of_o convey_v spiritual_a life_n and_o strength_n unto_o the_o church_n in_o this_o sense_n it_o be_v not_o here_o speak_v of_o nor_o be_v any_o where_o oppose_v unto_o grace_n 2._o for_o the_o covenant_n rule_n of_o perfect_a obedience_n do_v this_o and_o live_v in_o this_o sense_n man_n be_v say_v to_o be_v under_o it_o in_o opposition_n unto_o be_v under_o grace_n they_o be_v under_o its_o power_n rule_n condition_n and_o authority_n as_o a_o covenant_n and_o in_o this_o sense_n all_o man_n be_v under_o it_o who_o be_v not_o enstate_v in_o the_o new_a covenant_n through_o faith_n in_o christ_n jesus_n who_o set_v up_o in_o they_o and_o over_o they_o the_o rule_n of_o grace_n for_o all_o man_n must_v be_v one_o way_n or_o other_o under_o the_o rule_n of_o god_n and_o he_o rule_v only_o by_o the_o law_n or_o by_o grace_n and_o none_o can_v be_v under_o both_o at_o the_o same_o time_n in_o this_o sense_n the_o law_n be_v never_o ordain_v of_o god_n to_o convey_v grace_n or_o spiritual_a strength_n unto_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n have_v it_o be_v so_o the_o promise_n and_o the_o gospel_n have_v be_v needless_a if_o there_o have_v be_v a_o law_n give_v which_o can_v have_v give_v life_n very_o righteousness_n shall_v have_v be_v by_o the_o law_n gal._n iij._o 21._o if_o it_o can_v have_v give_v life_n or_o strength_n it_o will_v have_v produce_v righteousness_n we_o shall_v have_v be_v justify_v by_o it_o it_o discover_v sin_n and_o condemn_v it_o but_o give_v no_o strength_n to_o oppose_v it_o it_o be_v not_o god_n ordinance_n
