that_o they_o may_v have_v that_o that_o they_o may_v joy_v in_o when_o they_o have_v it_o it_o be_v a_o old_a observation_n of_o s._n chrysostome_n we_o do_v all_o that_o we_o may_v joy_v ask_v any_o man_n why_o he_o do_v take_v so_o much_o pain_n and_o be_v a_o drudge_n in_o his_o place_n it_o be_v that_o he_o may_v get_v somewhat_o to_o rejoice_v in_o in_o his_o old_a day_n so_o out_o of_o the_o state_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v a_o state_n of_o joy_n every_o way_n whether_o i_o say_v we_o regard_v the_o ill_a he_o be_v free_v from_o or_o the_o good_a he_o be_v in_o for_o the_o present_a or_o the_o hope_n of_o eternal_a good_a for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v a_o christian_n which_o way_n soever_o he_o look_v have_v matter_n of_o joy_n god_n the_o father_n be_v he_o christ_n be_v he_o the_o good_a man_n cheerful_a it_o make_v the_o countenance_n of_o his_o soul_n to_o be_v cheerful_a it_o make_v he_o active_a in_o good_a when_o he_o be_v anoint_v with_o the_o oil_n of_o gladness_n now_o every_o man_n shall_v have_v a_o desire_n to_o be_v good_a to_o be_v diligent_a and_o expedite_a in_o all_o that_o be_v good_a therefore_o we_o shall_v labour_v for_o this_o spiritual_a anoint_v that_o we_o may_v be_v ready_a for_o every_o good_a work_n vessel_n of_o mercy_n prepare_v for_o every_o good_a work_n and_o then_o for_o suffer_v we_o have_v many_o thing_n to_o go_v through_o in_o may_v endure_v affliction_n better_o and_o encourage_v other_o and_o take_v away_o the_o reproach_n of_o religion_n from_o those_o that_o think_v it_o a_o melancholy_a course_n of_o life_n which_o indeed_o do_v not_o understand_v what_o belong_v to_o the_o state_n of_o a_o christian_a for_o the_o state_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v a_o state_n of_o joy_n and_o if_o a_o christian_a do_v not_o joy_n it_o be_v not_o because_o he_o be_v a_o christian_n but_o because_o he_o be_v not_o a_o christian_a enough_o because_o he_o favour_v the_o worse_a principle_n in_o he_o he_o favour_v himself_o in_o some_o work_n of_o the_o flesh_n god_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n be_v all_o love_n and_o mercy_n he_o will_v have_v we_o in_o our_o pilgrimage_n to_o heaven_n to_o finish_v our_o course_n with_o joy_n and_o he_o know_v we_o can_v do_v nothing_o except_o we_o have_v some_o joy_n it_o be_v the_o oil_n of_o the_o soul_n as_o i_o say_v to_o make_v it_o nimble_a and_o fit_a for_o cool_v etc._n etc._n whence_o come_v the_o efficacy_n there_o be_v some_o cool_a herb_n some_o strong_a thing_n in_o it_o and_o then_o it_o do_v wonder_n so_o what_o be_v the_o infusion_n of_o the_o word_n but_o water_n but_o aqua_fw-la aquavitae_fw-la water_n of_o life_n the_o dew_n of_o heaven_n rosa_fw-la solis_fw-la whence_o be_v it_o so_o as_o water_n no_o but_o there_o be_v a_o divine_a influence_n and_o vigour_n in_o it_o that_o refresh_v and_o quicken_v the_o soul._n it_o do_v not_o do_v it_o of_o itself_o but_o it_o have_v a_o divine_a influence_n of_o the_o spirit_n so_o we_o pang_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o soul_n every_o little_a pang_n and_o grief_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n know_v it_o therefore_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v the_o comforter_n he_o strike_v the_o nail_n and_o seal_v the_o comfort_n to_o the_o soul_n we_o be_v but_o helper_n then_o again_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n must_v do_v it_o because_o the_o soul_n must_v be_v set_v down_o with_o that_o that_o be_v strong_a than_o itself_o it_o must_v be_v so_o convince_v and_o soul._n set_v down_o that_o it_o must_v have_v more_o to_o say_v against_o the_o grief_n or_o temptation_n then_o can_v be_v allege_v by_o the_o devil_n himself_o the_o soul_n before_o it_o be_v comfort_v it_o must_v be_v quiet_v and_o still_v now_o who_o be_v above_o the_o soul_n and_o satan_n that_o tempt_v the_o soul_n let_v satan_n be_v let_v loose_a to_o tempt_v the_o soul_n and_o the_o soul_n have_v a_o hell_n in_o itself_o if_o god_n let_v it_o alone_o who_o be_v above_o those_o unspeakable_a torment_n of_o coascience_n if_o they_o be_v not_o allay_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n who_o be_v above_o the_o soul_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n will_v the_o soul_n allay_v itself_o no_o it_o will_v never_o therefore_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o be_v strong_a and_o wise_a than_o the_o soul_n and_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o light_n and_o strength_n it_o must_v set_v down_o and_o quiet_a and_o calm_v quiet_a this_o the_o spirit_n do_v therefore_o make_v this_o use_n of_o it_o that_o in_o all_o our_o endeavour_n to_o procure_v peace_n to_o our_o conscience_n and_o spiritual_a balm_n to_o the_o wound_n of_o our_o soul_n let_v we_o mean_n go_v to_o this_o heavenly_a physician_n not_o depend_v overmuch_o upon_o the_o ministry_n or_o read_v or_o any_o outward_a task_n but_o in_o the_o use_n of_o all_o thing_n lift_v up_o our_o heart_n to_o god_n that_o he_o will_v comfort_v we_o by_o his_o spirit_n that_o he_o will_v send_v the_o comforter_n into_o our_o soul_n though_o the_o disciple_n deadhearted_n people_n but_o after_o the_o resurrection_n when_o the_o comforter_n come_v and_o refresh_v their_o memory_n and_o convince_v their_o understandig_n than_o they_o can_v remember_v all_o the_o sweet_a comfort_n that_o our_o bless_a saviour_n have_v teach_v they_o before_o so_o it_o be_v with_o we_o we_o hear_v many_o sweet_a comfort_n day_n after_o day_n out_o of_o god_n
book_n comfort_n against_o sin_n comfort_n against_o trouble_n outward_a and_o inward_a and_o all_o but_o till_o the_o comforter_n come_v till_o god_n send_v his_o holy_a spirit_n we_o shall_v not_o make_v use_n of_o they_o therefore_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o have_v more_o communion_n with_o god_n before_o we_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o after_o we_o have_v hear_v it_o let_v we_o have_v communion_n with_o god_n again_o that_o he_o will_v seal_v whatsoever_o be_v speak_v to_o our_o soul_n and_o make_v it_o effectual_a to_o we_o therefore_o we_o must_v learn_v to_o give_v the_o ministry_n and_o all_o other_o good_a mean_n likewise_o so_o much_o for_o that_o i_o go_v on_o to_o the_o last_o clause_n of_o the_o chapter_n for_o by_o faith_n you_o stand_v why_o do_v the_o apostle_n vary_v the_o word_n we_o have_v not_o dominion_n over_o your_o faith_n but_o be_v helper_n of_o your_o joy_n whereas_o the_o consequence_n it_o seem_v may_v run_v thus_o we_o do_v not_o domineer_v over_o your_o faith_n but_o be_v helper_n of_o your_o faith_n he_o put_v joy_n instead_o of_o faith_n and_o afterward_o he_o bring_v in_o faith_n again_o for_o by_o faith_n you_o stand_v this_o be_v one_o main_a reason_n because_o joy_n rise_v from_o faith_n therefore_o he_o phrase_n name_v it_o in_o stead_n of_o faith_n for_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v not_o curious_a of_o word_n but_o when_o the_o same_o spirit_n wrok_n both_o he_o name_v that_o which_o he_o think_v will_v fit_a suit_n the_o purpose_n faith_n breed_v joy_n joy_n how_o be_v that_o because_o faith_n first_o of_o all_o do_v show_v to_o we_o the_o freedom_n from_o that_o that_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o discomfort_n whatsoever_o it_o take_v away_o all_o that_o may_v discourage_v discourage_v for_o it_o take_v away_o the_o fear_n of_o damnation_n for_o our_o sin_n it_o show_v our_o reconciliation_n in_o jesus_n christ._n faith_n show_v liberty_n and_o deliverance_n and_o so_o discover_v deliverance_n
