first_o they_o may_v think_v thus_o if_o we_o do_v go_v and_o preach_v to_o a_o people_n and_o shall_v be_v reject_v than_o our_o ministry_n be_v like_a to_o be_v vile_a for_o if_o one_o shall_v reject_v we_o it_o be_v like_o another_o will_n it_o be_v so_o indeed_o in_o matter_n of_o the_o world_n if_o a_o worldly_a business_n receive_v any_o foil_n in_o one_o it_o be_v more_o like_a to_o receive_v a_o foil_n in_o another_o but_o say_v christ_n be_v not_o you_o trouble_v about_o this_o but_o if_o you_o shall_v preach_v to_o any_o people_n where_o you_o shall_v have_v any_o to_o reject_v your_o ministry_n it_o shall_v return_v to_o you_o again_o it_o shall_v have_v as_o much_o efficacy_n and_o power_n as_o if_o it_o never_o have_v be_v reject_v when_o you_o go_v to_o carry_v it_o to_o another_o people_n whatsoever_o disrespect_n be_v cast_v upon_o the_o minister_n or_o upon_o their_o ministry_n yet_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v not_o bind_v though_o we_o be_v bind_v though_o the_o ministry_n prevail_v not_o in_o one_o people_n yet_o it_o retain_v the_o power_n of_o it_o as_o much_o as_o if_o it_o have_v never_o be_v reject_v and_o as_o for_o those_o that_o do_v reject_v it_o let_v they_o know_v first_o that_o they_o shall_v have_v no_o blessing_n of_o that_o peace_n second_o let_v they_o know_v that_o it_o shall_v not_o continue_v of_o peace_n be_v there_o from_o hence_o there_o be_v this_o observe_v 1._o first_o note_v that_o when_o god_n send_v the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n unto_o a_o place_n it_o be_v very_o probable_a that_o there_o be_v some_o appoint_v for_o the_o good_a of_o it_o that_o there_o will_v be_v some_o son_n of_o peace_n there_o observe_v 2._o that_o those_o that_o do_v entertain_v the_o gospel_n they_o be_v the_o son_n of_o peace_n obser_n 3._o whosoever_o be_v son_n of_o peace_n shall_v certain_o have_v all_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o rest_v upon_o shall_v be_v tell_v that_o all_o of_o you_o natural_o be_v enemy_n to_o god_n and_o yet_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o plain_a in_o the_o scripture_n than_o this_o now_o because_o it_o be_v so_o hard_a to_o convince_v civil_a man_n of_o this_o therefore_o they_o be_v not_o so_o soon_o wrought_v upon_o as_o profane_a one_o be_v wherefore_o then_o my_o brethren_n if_o this_o be_v so_o it_o be_v at_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n whereas_o he_o may_v have_v curse_v thou_o and_o send_v thou_o long_o since_o down_o to_o thy_o own_o place_n yet_o he_o do_v give_v his_o minister_n charge_v to_o offer_v peace_n to_o thy_o soul_n think_v thus_o the_o lord_n in_o this_o have_v do_v more_o to_o i_o than_o he_o have_v do_v to_o all_o those_o thousand_o million_o of_o angel_n that_o sin_v against_o he_o those_o that_o be_v once_o glorious_a angel_n and_o do_v sin_n against_o god_n the_o lord_n take_v advantage_n against_o they_o for_o their_o first_o sin_n and_o upon_o that_o cast_v sinner_n and_o god_n will_v outbid_v the_o world_n and_o devil_n and_o flesh_n what_o do_v they_o offer_v any_o thing_n that_o may_v delight_v you_o say_v god_n i_o will_v outbid_v they_o all_o christ_n out-bids_a the_o world_n and_o devil_n in_o offer_v unto_o sinner_n a_o great_a good_a than_o world_n or_o devil_n can_v possible_o bring_v unto_o they_o and_o indeed_o this_o offer_n of_o peace_n do_v outbid_v the_o world_n that_o be_v do_v proffer_v a_o great_a good_a to_o a_o sinner_n than_o world_n or_o devil_n can_v possible_o proffer_v to_o they_o nay_o then_o say_v the_o soul_n if_o i_o see_v that_o i_o may_v have_v a_o great_a good_a by_o repent_v and_o believe_v than_o by_o go_v on_o in_o my_o sin_n i_o will_v go_v that_o way_n i_o will_v rather_o attend_v upon_o the_o word_n for_o i_o hear_v of_o great_a thing_n that_o be_v there_o about_o reconciliation_n between_o god_n and_o man_n now_o this_o be_v the_o way_n to_o take_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n and_o it_o be_v the_o way_n to_o break_v they_o of_o their_o stoutness_n and_o stubbornness_n for_o certain_o every_o man_n natural_o have_v a_o very_a stout_a and_o stubborn_a heart_n against_o god_n therefore_o if_o first_o he_o be_v oppose_v he_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o rise_v against_o god_n and_o against_o his_o truth_n and_o against_o his_o servant_n therefore_o it_o be_v good_a to_o come_v first_o with_o those_o thing_n that_o their_o heart_n may_v close_v with_o all_o that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v in_o a_o more_o preparation_n that_o they_o may_v hearken_v to_o what_o the_o lord_n shall_v unto_o you_o there_o be_v something_o to_o be_v open_v unto_o you_o about_o your_o miserable_a state_n by_o nature_n for_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o open_v the_o doctrine_n of_o peace_n and_o reconciliation_n without_o the_o open_n of_o that_o and_o that_o may_v well_o be_v justify_v that_o though_o the_o first_o thing_n shall_v be_v to_o say_v peace_n yet_o before_o this_o can_v be_v open_v at_o large_a unto_o people_n they_o must_v come_v to_o know_v what_o their_o natural_a state_n be_v there_o be_v some_o that_o will_v at_o first_o and_o at_o last_o say_v peace_n and_o will_v that_o will_v show_v the_o most_o woeful_a condition_n of_o man_n by_o nature_n that_o possible_o can_v be_v as_o for_o instance_n peace_n between_o god_n and_o we_o why_o what_o be_v we_o enemy_n be_v there_o a_o enmity_n between_o god_n and_o we_o yes_o that_o come_v here_o we_o can_v open_v the_o meaning_n of_o this_o peace_n but_o if_o we_o come_v once_o to_o open_v it_o we_o must_v of_o necessity_n fall_v upon_o the_o doctrine_n of_o man_n state_n by_o nature_n and_o show_v what_o a_o breach_n sin_n have_v make_v between_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n and_o what_o infinite_a need_n there_o be_v of_o such_o a_o redeemer_n that_o we_o can_v no_o other_o way_n be_v redeem_v but_o that_o we_o must_v have_v such_o a_o saviour_n that_o must_v be_v both_o god_n and_o man._n now_o when_o we_o come_v to_o open_v the_o nature_n of_o this_o it_o must_v needs_o show_v you_o what_o your_o miserable_a condition_n be_v by_o nature_n but_o a_o word_n or_o two_o for_o the_o application_n of_o this_o god_n do_v appoint_v his_o minister_n at_o first_o to_o come_v to_o you_o and_o to_o make_v the_o proffer_n of_o peace_n unto_o your_o soul_n than_o it_o shall_v teach_v you_o present_o to_o be_v willing_a to_o come_v and_o close_v with_o that_o message_n god_n heart_n be_v sofull_a of_o mercy_n towards_o you_o as_o at_o the_o very_a first_o he_o will_v have_v this_o offer_v to_o you_o then_o your_o heart_n shall_v likewise_o come_v in_o as_o well_o to_o god_n and_o at_o the_o very_a first_o come_v in_o and_o close_a with_o that_o bless_a offer_n of_o grace_n certain_o they_o will_v reverence_n this_o argument_n and_o their_o heart_n will_v be_v take_v with_o this_o argument_n that_o be_v another_o reason_n why_o there_o be_v great_a hope_n when_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n come_v that_o there_o shall_v be_v some_o son_n of_o peace_n find_v there_o reas_n 7._o further_o another_o be_v this_o because_o it_o be_v the_o way_n of_o god_n with_o a_o people_n when_o he_o send_v they_o the_o gospel_n in_o the_o power_n of_o it_o and_o the_o clearness_n of_o it_o i_o say_v the_o way_n of_o god_n then_o be_v not_o so_o much_o to_o have_v regard_n to_o any_o of_o their_o sin_n that_o ever_o be_v commit_v before_o that_o time_n but_o now_o to_o go_v as_o it_o be_v upon_o a_o new_a score_n i_o do_v not_o say_v but_o if_o they_o shall_v perish_v in_o the_o clearness_n and_o in_o the_o power_n of_o it_o bring_v among_o they_o now_o god_n look_v thus_o upon_o a_o people_n that_o he_o send_v his_o gospel_n unto_o it_o be_v true_a they_o have_v live_v in_o blindness_n in_o darkness_n in_o profaneness_n in_o sabboth-breaking_a in_o ungodliness_n alas_o they_o do_v not_o know_v what_o the_o counsel_n of_o my_o will_n be_v concern_v the_o people_n it_o be_v very_o like_a there_o be_v many_o who_o god_n intend_v everlasting_a good_a unto_o but_o now_o to_o wind_v up_o this_o point_n in_o a_o word_n of_o application_n if_o this_o be_v so_o appl._n o_o do_v not_o frustrate_a hope_n there_o be_v hope_n that_o god_n intend_v mercy_n to_o a_o people_n when_o he_o send_v the_o gospel_n to_o be_v preach_v to_o they_o at_o any_o time_n though_o they_o may_v say_v we_o have_v have_v it_o preach_v to_o we_o before_o yet_o if_o he_o send_v it_o afresh_o it_o seem_v that_o mercy_n must_v have_v the_o second_o turn_v to_o this_o people_n i_o say_v now_o do_v not_o frustrate_a hope_n first_o the_o hope_n of_o god_n himself_o you_o will_v say_v the_o hope_n of_o god_n why_o god_n know_v whether_o it_o will_v work_v upon_o people_n yea_o or_o no_o and_o that_o can_v be_v frustrate_v but_o for_o the_o answer_n to_o that_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o god_n be_v please_v in_o scripture_n to_o speak_v after_o the_o manner_n of_o man_n and_o god_n himself_o do_v speak_v after_o this_o manner_n as_o if_o he_o have_v some_o good_a hope_n that_o people_n will_v be_v wrought_v upon_o when_o he_o send_v his_o minister_n among_o they_o as_o that_o place_n which_o i_o name_v before_o i_o will_v send_v my_o son_n sure_o they_o will_v reverence_v he_o i_o hope_v that_o will_v prevail_v and_o a_o suitable_a place_n we_o have_v of_o god_n express_v himself_o after_o this_o manner_n in_o jer._n 36._o 2_o 3._o take_v thou_o a_o roll_n of_o a_o book_n and_o write_v therein_o all_o the_o word_n that_o i_o have_v speak_v unto_o thou_o against_o israel_n and_o against_o judah_n &c_n &c_n it_o may_v be_v say_v god_n that_o the_o house_n of_o judah_n will_v hear_v all_o the_o evil_a that_o i_o purpose_n unto_o they_o go_v your_o way_n and_o preach_v say_v god_n unto_o the_o prophet_n it_o may_v be_v they_o will_v hear_v and_o return_v every_o man_n from_o his_o evil_a way_n this_o be_v not_o now_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o of_o threating_n and_o yet_o god_n speak_v with_o some_o expectation_n as_o if_o so_o be_v he_o do_v expect_v that_o they_o shall_v it_o may_v be_v they_o will_v say_v god_n and_o so_o in_o zeph._n 3._o 7._o i_o say_v sure_o thou_o will_v fear_v i_o thou_o will_v receive_v instruction_n so_o their_o dwelling_n shall_v not_o be_v cut_v off_o howsoever_o i_o punish_v they_o but_o they_o rise_v early_o and_o corrupt_v all_o their_o do_n god_n be_v frustrate_v in_o his_o expectation_n yet_o i_o say_v sure_o thou_o will_v fear_v i_o thus_o the_o lord_n though_o he_o know_v all_o his_o work_n from_o all_o eternity_n yet_o he_o speak_v after_o the_o manner_n of_o man_n and_o say_v sure_o such_o and_o such_o mean_n may_v do_v good_a upon_o such_o and_o such_o people_n o_o they_o come_v to_o any_o place_n they_o be_v to_o
come_v with_o their_o heart_n fill_v with_o hope_n that_o there_o be_v son_n of_o peace_n in_o that_o place_n and_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o can_v encourage_v a_o faithful_a minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o spend_v his_o time_n in_o study_v and_o open_v of_o the_o mystery_n of_o grace_n more_o than_o this_o that_o he_o come_v with_o his_o heart_n fill_v with_o hope_n that_o there_o be_v some_o son_n of_o peace_n in_o that_o place_n o_o do_v not_o frustrate_v this_o expectation_n it_o be_v a_o vile_a thing_n for_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o come_v to_o any_o place_n but_o to_o gain_v son_n of_o peace_n and_o indeed_o upon_o this_o expectation_n the_o heart_n of_o a_o faithful_a minister_n who_o understand_v what_o the_o meaning_n of_o peace_n with_o god_n be_v can_v but_o be_v draw_v forth_o towards_o a_o people_n why_o he_o come_v with_o this_o expectation_n and_o he_o look_v after_o his_o ministry_n to_o see_v what_o become_v of_o it_o o_o therefore_o do_v not_o frustrate_v the_o expectation_n of_o your_o minister_n in_o this_o do_v not_o give_v they_o occasion_n to_o make_v their_o complaint_n that_o they_o have_v spend_v their_o strength_n in_o vain_a yea_o and_o further_o as_o it_o be_v the_o expectation_n of_o the_o minister_n that_o preach_v so_o it_o be_v the_o expectation_n of_o all_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n none_o of_o god_n people_n that_o know_v a_o place_n that_o have_v live_v in_o darkness_n and_o blindness_n before_o but_o if_o they_o see_v the_o lord_n by_o his_o providence_n carry_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n with_o power_n in_o that_o place_n they_o think_v thus_o with_o themselves_o who_o be_v it_o that_o the_o lord_n intend_v good_a unto_o sure_o the_o lord_n have_v a_o mercy_n to_o such_o a_o people_n and_o they_o will_v wait_v to_o see_v who_o it_o be_v that_o god_n will_v pitch_v upon_o o_o likewise_o do_v not_o frustrate_v the_o expectation_n that_o the_o angel_n themselves_o in_o 1_o cor._n 11._o a_o place_n i_o suppose_v you_o know_v where_o the_o woman_n be_v to_o be_v cover_v because_o of_o the_o angel_n it_o do_v appear_v by_o that_o text_n that_o the_o angel_n be_v in_o congregation_n when_o a_o congregation_n be_v meet_v together_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n preach_v and_o for_o other_o account_n there_o the_o angel_n be_v meet_v and_o i_o make_v no_o question_n but_o this_o place_n be_v as_o full_a of_o angel_n as_o of_o man_n and_o they_o be_v here_o present_a and_o do_v look_v upon_o our_o behaviour_n and_o wait_v for_o the_o time_n when_o god_n will_v be_v please_v to_o work_v upon_o the_o heart_n of_o some_o or_o other_o o_o to_o what_o family_n to_o what_o particular_a soul_n do_v god_n intend_v good_a unto_o o_o that_o we_o may_v know_v it_o that_o we_o may_v have_v joy_n in_o heaven_n for_o so_o the_o scripture_n tell_v we_o that_o at_o the_o conversion_n of_o sinner_n there_o be_v joy_n in_o heaven_n and_o sure_o they_o wait_v for_o it_o o_o that_o we_o may_v see_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n work_v effectual_o upon_o soul_n that_o so_o we_o may_v joy_v for_o it_o and_o now_o let_v every_o particular_a soul_n reason_n thus_o with_o itself_o what_o be_v it_o so_o that_o there_o be_v hope_n that_o there_o may_v be_v some_o son_n of_o peace_n why_o may_v it_o not_o be_v i_o though_o vile_a though_o a_o very_a wretched_a creature_n yet_o i_o hear_v that_o the_o time_n of_o ignorance_n god_n wink_v at_o only_o now_o he_o call_v to_o repent_v if_o i_o feel_v god_n begin_v to_o jog_v my_o heart_n now_o i_o may_v be_v the_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o the_o lord_n intend_v from_o all_o eternity_n for_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o which_o god_n do_v now_o in_o time_n be_v no_o other_o than_o he_o do_v determine_v from_o eternity_n and_o i_o say_v if_o you_o feel_v your_o heart_n stir_v and_o wrought_v upon_o by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n you_o may_v know_v that_o god_n do_v intend_v you_o in_o particular_a and_o christ_n when_o he_o do_v pray_v to_o god_n the_o father_n for_o this_o acceptable_a time_n that_o you_o be_v particular_o intend_v in_o that_o prayer_n of_o he_o and_o you_o be_v not_o exclude_v to_o be_v save_v any_o more_o than_o any_o and_o therefore_o it_o may_v fall_v upon_o you_o perhaps_o in_o a_o family_n it_o may_v fall_v upon_o the_o poor_a servant_n or_o child_n and_o the_o other_o may_v be_v leave_v but_o some_o or_o other_o it_o be_v like_a it_o will_v fall_v upon_o and_o my_o brethren_n if_o this_o be_v so_o if_o there_o be_v hope_n when_o the_o gospel_n come_v to_o be_v preach_v that_o there_o be_v son_n of_o peace_n in_o that_o place_n it_o be_v a_o most_o curse_a thing_n for_o any_o to_o stand_v to_o oppose_v the_o gospel_n when_o it_o come_v to_o any_o place_n it_o be_v very_o seldom_o but_o some_o or_o other_o will_v be_v rail_a and_o cry_v out_o against_o it_o but_o take_v heed_n what_o thou_o do_v will_v thou_o stand_v against_o god_n to_o cross_v god_n in_o such_o a_o bless_a end_n as_o this_o be_v it_o may_v be_v the_o lord_n have_v some_o soul_n in_o that_o place_n he_o intend_v eternal_a good_a unto_o and_o will_v thou_o stand_v out_o against_o that_o and_o cross_a god_n but_o especial_o take_v heed_n you_o do_v not_o oppose_v the_o gospel_n in_o any_o place_n where_o there_o be_v not_o only_o a_o remote_a hope_n but_o it_o come_v to_o be_v near_o and_o full_a than_o it_o be_v before_o and_o there_o be_v some_o real_a manifestation_n that_o god_n intend_v good_a unto_o some_o o_o take_v heed_n of_o thy_o opposition_n of_o it_o there_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o paul_n be_v so_o mighty_o provoke_v when_o elimas_n come_v to_o resist_v his_o ministry_n of_o which_o you_o may_v read_v in_o act_n 13._o there_o be_v one_o sergius_n paulus_n which_o send_v for_o barnabas_n and_o saul_n and_o desire_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n now_o this_o sergius_n paulus_n be_v a_o chief_a man_n in_o if_o paul_n shall_v say_v do_v with_o i_o what_o you_o will_v put_v i_o into_o prison_n do_v what_o you_o will_v with_o my_o carcase_n but_o do_v not_o frustrate_v my_o expectation_n in_o gain_v a_o chief_a man_n that_o may_v do_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o service_n for_o god_n when_o he_o be_v but_o in_o fear_n that_o he_o shall_v be_v frustrate_v of_o his_o hope_n he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v it_o and_o certain_o nothing_o can_v go_v so_o near_o to_o the_o heart_n of_o any_o faithful_a minister_n as_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v any_o to_o stand_v to_o frustrate_v his_o hope_n of_o gain_v of_o soul_n perhaps_o in_o a_o family_n if_o one_o or_o two_o do_v but_o go_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n the_o other_o will_v be_v scorn_v and_o jeer_a and_o one_o neighbour_n will_v be_v scorn_v at_o another_o and_o all_o to_o frustrate_v the_o hope_n of_o god_n of_o his_o minister_n and_o of_o the_o saint_n and_o angel_n but_o know_v when_o thou_o do_v any_o thing_n to_o oppose_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n thou_o do_v set_v thyself_o what_o in_o thou_o lie_v both_o to_o frustrate_v the_o hope_n of_o god_n and_o his_o minister_n and_o his_o saint_n and_o angel_n and_o thou_o will_v find_v this_o to_o be_v a_o hard_a work_n thou_o do_v but_o kick_v against_o the_o prick_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o this_o point_n we_o come_v now_o unto_o the_o next_o that_o good_a hearer_n of_o the_o gospel_n 2_o be_v call_v the_o son_n of_o peace_n
that_o convert_v a_o sinner_n from_o the_o error_n of_o his_o way_n let_v he_o know_v what_o shall_v he_o know_v that_o he_o shall_v save_v a_o soul_n from_o death_n and_o shall_v hide_v a_o multitude_n of_o sin_n though_o it_o may_v be_v he_o take_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o pain_n and_o suffer_v much_o in_o it_o yet_o for_o his_o encouragement_n let_v he_o know_v that_o he_o shall_v save_v a_o soul_n and_o hide_v a_o multitude_n of_o sin_n further_o if_o the_o other_o shall_v not_o be_v a_o sufficient_a encouragement_n yet_o for_o his_o own_o good_a many_o time_n there_o be_v much_o self_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o best_a minister_n now_o there_o be_v these_o two_o thing_n that_o can_v but_o follow_v if_o the_o lord_n bless_v their_o ministry_n to_o bring_v the_o peace_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o any_o soul_n first_o such_o a_o soul_n will_v bless_v god_n for_o he_o now_o for_o a_o man_n to_o be_v so_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n as_o that_o he_o shall_v have_v they_o bless_v the_o lord_n for_o he_o and_o bless_v the_o time_n that_o ever_o he_o see_v he_o bless_a be_v the_o lord_n and_o bless_a be_v thou_o as_o david_n say_v to_o abigail_n when_o it_o do_v but_o hinder_v he_o in_o one_o sin_n by_o her_o counsel_n but_o now_o if_o so_o be_v the_o lord_n do_v bless_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o any_o so_o that_o the_o peace_n of_o jesus_n christ_n come_v to_o the_o soul_n there_o be_v not_o the_o hindrance_n of_o one_o sin_n but_o of_o multitude_n and_o there_o be_v the_o obtain_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o all_o sin_n and_o therefore_o how_o much_o more_o cause_o have_v they_o to_o say_v bless_a be_v god_n and_o bless_a be_v thou_o and_o bless_v be_v thy_o counsel_n and_o bless_v be_v thy_o ministry_n here_o be_v a_o great_a encouragement_n in_o this_o they_o through_o who_o ministry_n soul_n come_v to_o be_v bless_v they_o will_v bless_v they_o and_o bless_v god_n for_o they_o and_o further_o at_o the_o great_a day_n of_o jesus_n christ_n they_o shall_v have_v abundance_n of_o joy_n in_o those_o that_o god_n make_v they_o instrumental_a of_o good_a unto_o in_o phil._n 2._o you_o have_v a_o notable_a text_n for_o that_o say_v the_o apostle_n in_o way_n of_o exhortation_n to_o the_o philippian_n to_o hold_v forth_o the_o word_n of_o life_n in_o ver_fw-la 16._o hold_v forth_o the_o word_n of_o life_n that_o i_o may_v rejoice_v in_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n that_o i_o have_v not_o run_v in_o vain_a neither_o labour_v in_o vain_a say_v he_o if_o you_o do_v thus_o and_o thus_o and_o show_v forth_o the_o power_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n that_o god_n have_v be_v please_v to_o bless_v my_o ministry_n if_o you_o do_v so_o why_o then_o i_o shall_v rejoice_v o_o do_v you_o show_v draw_v forth_o their_o heart_n and_o to_o venture_v their_o life_n among_o they_o as_o certain_o not_o one_o man_n of_o forty_o of_o a_o hundred_o scarce_o that_o shall_v preach_v to_o such_o a_o congregation_n as_o this_o but_o must_v expect_v a_o venture_v of_o his_o life_n in_o it_o but_o lot_n this_o message_n be_v but_o entertain_v it_o will_v be_v think_v to_o be_v thorough_o recompense_v for_o it_o will_v be_v a_o joy_n to_o those_o that_o do_v venture_v themselves_o among_o you_o it_o will_v be_v a_o joy_n in_o the_o day_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o they_o have_v not_o run_v in_o vain_a but_o we_o leave_v that_o point_n and_o come_v to_o the_o last_o part_n of_o the_o text._n if_o the_o son_n of_o peace_n be_v there_o your_o peace_n shall_v rest_v upon_o it_o but_o what_o if_o not_o if_o not_o it_o shall_v turn_v to_o you_o again_o o_o that_o this_o shall_v be_v hear_v if_o not_o this_o be_v a_o sad_a supposition_n indeed_o if_o not_o what_o shall_v the_o lord_n send_v ambassador_n of_o peace_n the_o lord_n from_o heaven_n send_v to_o his_o poor_a creature_n the_o ministry_n of_o his_o gospel_n and_o offer_v peace_n between_o their_o soul_n and_o himself_o purchase_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o his_o son_n and_o shall_v it_o be_v say_v if_o not_o if_o there_o be_v any_o that_o will_v not_o embrace_v it_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o jesus_n christ_n wheresoever_o he_o come_v shall_v not_o be_v entertain_v true_o this_o very_a supposition_n that_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o possibility_n for_o any_o soul_n to_o who_o christ_n be_v reveal_v ever_o to_o reject_v do_v argue_v the_o extreme_a sinfulness_n of_o the_o heart_n of_o men._n o_o woe_n to_o we_o that_o such_o a_o thing_n shall_v be_v suppose_v as_o possible_a if_o not_o that_o christ_n shall_v come_v to_o any_o place_n and_o shall_v not_o be_v entertain_v what_o that_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n shall_v come_v and_o be_v reject_v when_o as_o it_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o bring_n of_o the_o message_n of_o peace_n to_o a_o people_n between_o god_n and_o they_o they_o may_v think_v perhaps_o that_o it_o come_v to_o trouble_v they_o but_o the_o truth_n be_v the_o errand_n of_o all_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n among_o people_n it_o be_v no_o other_o in_o the_o conclusion_n and_o in_o the_o issue_n but_o to_o bring_v eternal_a peace_n to_o their_o soul_n and_o shall_v this_o be_v reject_v sometime_o it_o be_v so_o now_o in_o this_o we_o have_v these_o three_o thing_n first_o a_o sad_a supposition_n that_o sometime_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n come_v where_o it_o be_v reject_v by_o some_o second_o the_o encouragement_n of_o minister_n in_o this_o case_n christ_n do_v not_o only_o encourage_v they_o in_o case_n their_o ministry_n prevail_v that_o then_o they_o shall_v be_v instrument_n of_o so_o much_o good_a to_o soul_n but_o he_o do_v encourage_v they_o in_o case_n it_o do_v not_o prevail_v as_o if_o the_o disciple_n shall_v say_v i_o indeed_o if_o our_o ministry_n prevail_v that_o we_o may_v bring_v peace_n to_o soul_n we_o have_v enough_o but_o what_o if_o not_o it_o shall_v return_v to_o you_o again_o and_o then_o three_o a_o dreadful_a denunciation_n against_o all_o those_o that_o do_v not_o entertain_v the_o gospel_n and_o that_o be_v that_o they_o shall_v have_v no_o benefit_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n shall_v be_v take_v from_o they_o and_o that_o god_n will_v be_v very_o quick_a in_o his_o deal_n with_o they_o now_o then_o at_o this_o time_n for_o the_o first_o first_o if_o not_o this_o sad_a supposition_n from_o hence_o the_o point_n of_o doctrine_n or_o note_v of_o observation_n be_v this_o that_o the_o gospel_n do_v sometime_o go_v to_o place_n doct._n the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v sometime_o send_v to_o place_n where_o it_o be_v reject_v by_o man_n as_o before_o if_o the_o son_n of_o peace_n that_o suppose_v that_o where_o god_n do_v send_v the_o gospel_n there_o be_v some_o son_n of_o peace_n so_o if_o not_o here_o be_v a_o supposion_n that_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n may_v be_v send_v to_o a_o place_n and_o yet_o there_o may_v be_v some_o that_o will_v reject_v this_o bless_a ministry_n you_o know_v what_o be_v say_v of_o christ_n himself_o and_o well_o then_o may_v it_o be_v say_v of_o they_o he_o send_v to_o preach_v when_o christ_n himself_o come_v to_o his_o own_o john_n 1._o his_o own_o receive_v he_o not_o his_o own_o those_o that_o he_o have_v a_o pecular_a right_n in_o the_o people_n of_o the_o jew_n even_o such_o as_o be_v the_o only_a people_n that_o do_v profess_v the_o true_a god_n upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n i_o beseech_v you_o observe_v it_o when_o jesus_n christ_n come_v into_o the_o world_n there_o be_v but_o a_o handful_n of_o people_n upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n that_o do_v so_o much_o as_o profess_v the_o worship_n of_o the_o true_a god_n but_o the_o generality_n of_o all_o the_o world_n except_o a_o little_a country_n of_o canaan_n that_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o

as_o thou_o be_v but_o if_o thou_o live_v where_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v preach_v and_o yet_o continue_v wicked_a and_o ungodly_a thou_o be_v discover_v to_o have_v that_o wickedness_n in_o thy_o heart_n that_o for_o aught_o thou_o know_v it_o be_v beyond_o the_o wickedness_n of_o any_o devil_n in_o hell_n the_o devil_n may_v say_v lord_n have_v thou_o offer_v term_n he_o shall_v say_v send_v i_o about_o the_o hard_a work_n that_o thou_o have_v to_o do_v and_o then_o the_o lord_n tell_v he_o what_o that_o hard_a message_n shall_v be_v that_o he_o shall_v carry_v he_o shall_v go_v to_o a_o people_n and_o preach_v but_o it_o shall_v be_v to_o harden_v their_o heart_n and_o not_o to_o prevail_v with_o their_o spirit_n and_o the_o like_a we_o have_v in_o the_o prophet_n ezekiel_n if_o you_o read_v the_o second_o and_o the_o beginning_n of_o the_o three_o chap._n the_o lord_n tell_v he_o that_o he_o be_v to_o go_v to_o a_o rebellious_a house_n but_o you_o further_o the_o spirit_n enter_v into_o he_o and_o speak_v unto_o he_o and_o then_o declare_v his_o message_n and_o give_v he_o the_o roll_n and_o bid_v he_o eat_v it_o and_o make_v it_o to_o be_v sweet_a unto_o he_o though_o it_o be_v a_o message_n of_o threaten_v i_o speak_v all_o this_o to_o this_o end_n to_o show_v that_o there_o be_v no_o work_n more_o difficult_a than_o the_o work_n of_o a_o minister_n and_o especial_o when_o his_o ministry_n have_v not_o success_n and_o therefore_o this_o point_n be_v very_o reasonable_a to_o tell_v unto_o they_o all_o that_o though_o they_o have_v not_o the_o success_n that_o they_o desire_v yet_o the_o good_a of_o their_o ministry_n shall_v return_v upon_o they_o again_o be_v there_o a_o people_n that_o they_o be_v send_v to_o to_o who_o do_v they_o offer_v christ_n why_o they_o will_v fain_o gain_v their_o soul_n unto_o christ_n that_o they_o may_v live_v for_o ever_o in_o praise_v the_o riches_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n in_o the_o high_a heaven_n but_o will_v they_o not_o know_v thou_o shait_fw-fr have_v the_o blessing_n of_o that_o peace_n look_v what_o glory_n and_o comfort_n they_o shall_v have_v have_v so_o you_o every_o one_o in_o your_o measure_n shall_v be_v encourage_v in_o every_o work_n that_o god_n have_v call_v you_o unto_o go_v on_o therefore_o with_o peace_n and_o with_o comfort_n in_o all_o the_o work_n that_o heretofore_o you_o have_v be_v so_o much_o discourage_v in_o for_o the_o reward_n be_v to_o your_o faithfulness_n and_o not_o to_o the_o success_n of_o your_o work_n the_o next_o to_o this_o be_v your_o peace_n shall_v return_v that_o be_v as_o i_o show_v you_o it_o shall_v return_v with_o as_o much_o power_n and_o efficacy_n for_o they_o may_v think_v thus_o lord_n do_v we_o go_v to_o preach_v to_o this_o people_n and_o do_v they_o reject_v it_o what_o hope_n shall_v we_o have_v that_o now_o the_o gospel_n shall_v do_v good_a it_o have_v receive_v a_o foil_n and_o now_o the_o edge_n seem_v to_o be_v off_o and_o never_o like_a to_o do_v good_a any_o where_o no_o say_v christ_n do_v not_o reason_n so_o do_v not_o think_v that_o your_o gospel_n have_v lose_v the_o edge_n of_o it_o it_o shall_v return_v to_o you_o again_o with_o as_o much_o power_n as_o ever_o it_o do_v at_o first_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o the_o gospel_n as_o with_o other_o thing_n many_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n if_o once_o they_o receive_v a_o repulse_n their_o edge_n be_v take_v off_o but_o the_o gospel_n though_o it_o do_v receive_v a_o repulse_n yet_o still_o the_o edge_n of_o it_o shall_v continue_v and_o the_o power_n of_o it_o this_o be_v that_o which_o the_o apostle_n say_v 2_o tim._n 2._o 10._o wherein_o i_o suffer_v trouble_n as_o a_o evil-doer_n even_o unto_o bond_n but_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v not_o bind_v mark_v though_o i_o suffer_v bond_n yet_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v not_o bind_v i_o be_o slight_v and_o contemn_v i_o but_o the_o word_n be_v not_o bind_v the_o word_n be_v the_o same_o that_o ever_o it_o be_v though_o i_o be_v hate_v and_o cast_v out_o that_o be_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n yet_o it_o remain_v in_o as_o much_o strength_n as_o ever_o it_o do_v
i_o indeed_o be_o cast_v into_o a_o dungeon_n but_o the_o gospel_n will_v prevail_v all_o the_o persecution_n of_o wicked_a man_n all_o the_o scorn_n that_o be_v cast_v upon_o the_o gospel_n by_o they_o shall_v not_o take_v away_o the_o edge_n and_o power_n and_o life_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o that_o shall_v continue_v as_o much_o as_o ever_o all_o the_o rage_n of_o hell_n and_o devil_n and_o tyrant_n shall_v not_o take_v away_o the_o power_n of_o the_o gospel_n indeed_o they_o may_v restrain_v such_o and_o such_o man_n in_o the_o preach_a of_o it_o but_o after_o they_o be_v dead_a and_o rot_a and_o roar_v in_o hell_n the_o gospel_n shall_v prevail_v we_o find_v it_o so_o at_o this_o day_n ever_o since_o christ_n come_v the_o gospel_n have_v be_v oppose_v by_o ungodly_a man_n yet_o it_o do_v remain_v in_o as_o much_o life_n and_o vigour_n and_o power_n as_o ever_o it_o do_v and_o i_o have_v no_o cause_n to_o question_v but_o it_o will_v prevail_v ere_o long_o more_o than_o ever_o it_o do_v in_o the_o world_n though_o its_o true_a sometime_o we_o find_v minister_n preach_v sermon_n after_o sermon_n and_o there_o be_v but_o few_o convert_v to_o the_o gospel_n what_o shall_v we_o think_v that_o therefore_o in_o have_v lose_v the_o power_n of_o it_o no_o god_n time_n be_v not_o come_v when_o the_o time_n of_o god_n shall_v come_v to_o call_v home_o those_o that_o belong_v to_o his_o election_n of_o grace_n it_o shall_v appear_v that_o the_o gospel_n shall_v arise_v in_o power_n and_o glory_n and_o prevail_v in_o the_o world_n again_o therefore_o let_v we_o never_o despair_v but_o that_o the_o gospel_n will_v prevail_v in_o the_o world_n as_o at_o first_o when_o as_o there_o be_v but_o a_o few_o poor_a fisherman_n to_o preach_v it_o and_o all_o the_o world_n be_v enrage_v against_o it_o the_o emperor_n and_o prince_n of_o the_o earth_n be_v enrage_v against_o it_o and_o yet_o these_o poor_a fisherman_n do_v subdue_v a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o world_n by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o gospel_n therefore_o let_v not_o we_o be_v discourage_v for_o when_o god_n time_n be_v come_v it_o shall_v prevail_v in_o a_o glorious_a manner_n more_o than_o ever_o and_o so_o as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o gospel_n so_o it_o shall_v be_v with_o the_o professor_n of_o it_o if_o god_n be_v dishonour_v by_o other_o yet_o let_v not_o your_o edge_n be_v take_v off_o but_o do_v you_o continue_v in_o the_o power_n and_o life_n and_o vigour_n as_o much_o as_o ever_o now_o the_o second_o part_n which_o be_v the_o main_a that_o i_o intend_v and_o that_o be_v the_o dreadful_a threaten_n of_o those_o that_o do_v reject_v the_o gospel_n only_o take_v this_o one_o point_n there_o be_v these_o three_o first_o 1_o that_o where_o a_o people_n reject_v the_o gospel_n god_n may_v just_o take_v it_o away_o from_o they_o yea_o they_o be_v in_o danger_n to_o have_v it_o take_v from_o they_o it_o shall_v return_v second_o 2._o such_o shall_v not_o have_v the_o it_o be_v when_o you_o come_v to_o a_o house_n and_o offer_v it_o if_o they_o do_v not_o embrace_v it_o let_v your_o peace_n return_v again_o christ_n here_o compare_v his_o disciple_n unto_o chapman_n that_o shall_v go_v and_o offer_v rich_a ware_n they_o have_v diamond_n and_o precious_a stone_n thing_n worth_a thousand_o and_o they_o come_v perhaps_o to_o poor_a countrypeople_n and_o open_v their_o cabinet_n of_o diamond_n and_o precious_a stone_n and_o make_v offer_n to_o they_o but_o they_o do_v not_o know_v the_o worth_n of_o they_o they_o will_v bid_v nothing_o for_o they_o now_o when_o he_o see_v that_o they_o reject_v and_o despise_v they_o say_v he_o give_v i_o my_o ware_n again_o and_o so_o he_o pack_v they_o up_o again_o and_o away_o he_o go_v for_o say_v he_o this_o be_v not_o a_o people_n that_o be_v fit_a for_o such_o thing_n as_o these_o be_v so_o say_v christ_n you_o be_v such_o chapman_n i_o send_v you_o abroad_o with_o the_o most_o rich_a pearl_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o go_v and_o show_v the_o excellency_n of_o it_o to_o people_n and_o to_o offer_v it_o to_o they_o and_o the_o truth_n be_v i_o require_v thus_o much_o of_o they_o that_o if_o they_o will_v have_v this_o pearl_n they_o must_v sell_v all_o now_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n come_v and_o they_o be_v ignorant_a of_o this_o pearl_n that_o they_o have_v bring_v this_o rich_a commodity_n they_o can_v tell_v they_o indeed_o that_o here_o be_v a_o exceed_a rich_a pearl_n but_o this_o be_v the_o tenor_n that_o you_o must_v be_v content_a to_o part_v with_o all_o for_o this_o pearl_n that_o be_v thus_o first_o you_o must_v actual_o lay_v down_o and_o renounce_v every_o belove_a sin_n second_o you_o must_v enter_v into_o bond_n as_o it_o be_v with_o god_n that_o whensoever_o he_o call_v for_o your_o estate_n your_o liberty_n your_o outward_a peace_n and_o comfort_n that_o you_o have_v in_o the_o world_n shall_v be_v at_o god_n dispose_n thus_o you_o enter_v into_o bond_n as_o in_o your_o deal_n for_o commodity_n when_o you_o see_v a_o great_a and_o rich_a commodity_n you_o lay_v down_o somewhat_o for_o the_o present_a and_o give_v bond_n for_o the_o rest_n to_o be_v pay_v when_o it_o shall_v be_v call_v for_o when_o you_o go_v to_o buy_v peddle_v thing_n there_o you_o lay_v down_o all_o at_o first_o and_o no_o enter_v into_o bond_n but_o when_o it_o be_v a_o great_a purchase_n than_o there_o be_v a_o little_a lay_v down_o for_o the_o present_a and_o enter_v into_o bond_n for_o the_o rest_n now_o certain_o in_o this_o bargain_n of_o the_o merchant_n there_o be_v first_o a_o lay_v down_o for_o the_o present_a thy_o lust_n thy_o sin_n as_o if_o the_o soul_n shall_v say_v o_o lord_n let_v i_o have_v my_o part_n in_o christ_n in_o this_o glorious_a peace_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o for_o any_o way_n of_o sin_n that_o i_o have_v live_v in_o heretofore_o lord_n i_o renounce_v they_o and_o will_v not_o live_v in_o any_o way_n of_o know_a sin_n lord_n grant_v i_o thy_o grace_n to_o do_v it_o indeed_o this_o be_v the_o way_n of_o the_o heart_n come_v in_o at_o first_o i_o but_o say_v god_n i_o will_v not_o only_o have_v thy_o sin_n shall_v command_v your_o child_n to_o observe_v to_o do_v all_o the_o word_n of_o this_o law_n mark_v it_o why_o what_o be_v the_o matter_n v_o 47._o for_o it_o be_v not_o a_o vain_a thing_n for_o be_v to_o this_o place_n to_o this_o people_n &_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v preach_v to_o they_o o_o set_v your_o heart_n to_o what_o be_v deliver_v why_o for_o it_o be_v your_o life_n when_o you_o come_v to_o hear_v a_o sermon_n you_o shall_v come_v so_o as_o to_o consider_v that_o your_o life_n may_v lie_v upon_o that_o sermon_n for_o ought_v you_o know_v and_o the_o rather_o look_v to_o it_o because_o the_o lord_n with_o who_o you_o have_v to_o deal_v be_v a_o great_a god_n and_o a_o god_n that_o will_v not_o be_v dally_v withal_o and_o trisled_a withal_o but_o if_o you_o disobey_v the_o message_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o lord_n may_v deal_v very_o quick_a with_o you_o and_o that_o let_v we_o i_o into_o the_o last_o point_n which_o now_o we_o be_v to_o finish_v this_o
