of_o the_o house_n of_o commons_z of_o the_o ground_n and_o reason_n which_o move_v he_o to_o absent_v himself_o from_o attend_v the_o service_n of_o the_o house_n on_o friday_n the_o 30._o of_o july_n 1647._o although_o it_o may_v happy_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o expectation_n of_o some_o that_o i_o attend_v not_o the_o service_n of_o the_o house_n of_o commons_o at_o this_o time_n as_o i_o have_v constant_o do_v for_o almost_o seven_o year_n last_o pass_v and_o yet_o can_v it_o not_o be_v reasonable_o expect_v by_o any_o that_o well_o consider_v the_o violence_n offer_v to_o both_o the_o house_n of_o parliament_n and_o to_o myself_o in_o particular_a on_o monday_n in_o so_o much_o that_o i_o can_v safe_o take_v it_o upon_o my_o conscience_n and_o so_o i_o doubt_v not_o may_v all_o the_o member_n of_o both_o house_n also_o that_o they_o sit_v in_o continual_a fear_n of_o their_o life_n and_o by_o terror_n thereof_o be_v compel_v to_o pass_v such_o vote_n as_o it_o please_v a_o unruly_a multitude_n to_o force_v upon_o they_o which_o as_o i_o do_v then_o open_o declare_v in_o the_o house_n so_o i_o can_v but_o believe_v that_o they_o be_v void_a and_o null_n be_v extort_a by_o force_n and_o violence_n and_o in_o that_o manner_n that_o they_o be_v and_o i_o can_v any_o long_o dispense_v with_o myself_o to_o be_v a_o instrument_n in_o pass_v such_o vote_n or_o to_o give_v any_o colour_n or_o shadow_n of_o parliamentary_a authority_n unto_o they_o which_o be_v not_o the_o vote_n of_o the_o representative_a body_n of_o the_o kingdom_n but_o of_o a_o tumultuous_a multitude_n as_o those_o must_v needs_o be_v account_v that_o seem_v to_o pass_v the_o house_n on_o monday_n last_o and_o which_o shall_v pass_v hereafter_o until_o better_a provision_n be_v make_v for_o the_o safe_a and_o free_a sit_v of_o the_o house_n of_o parliament_n there_o be_v no_o effectual_a course_n take_v by_o the_o city_n since_o the_o last_o adjournment_n of_o the_o house_n to_o prevent_v the_o like_a tumult_n for_o the_o future_a no_o nor_o so_o much_o as_o a_o declaration_n from_o they_o to_o show_v their_o dislike_n thereof_o but_o on_o the_o contrary_a it_o be_v general_o voice_v in_o the_o town_n there_o will_v be_v a_o far_o great_a confluence_n of_o apprentice_n reformado_n and_o other_o on_o friday_n at_o the_o parliament_n door_n and_o particular_o notice_n be_v give_v to_o i_o that_o after_o they_o have_v make_v the_o house_n vote_n what_o they_o please_v they_o will_v destroy_v i_o i_o have_v likewise_o information_n give_v i_o that_o there_o will_v be_v a_o great_a number_n of_o apprentice_n of_o a_o contrary_a opinion_n and_o affection_n to_o the_o other_o about_o the_o parliament_n door_n on_o friday_n morning_n which_o i_o foresee_v must_v of_o necessity_n cause_n a_o great_a combustion_n and_o in_o probability_n occasion_n much_o blood_n shed_v the_o prevent_n of_o which_o mischief_n together_o with_o the_o consideration_n aforesaid_a have_v weigh_v more_o with_o i_o then_o any_o thing_n which_o may_v concern_v my_o partiticular_a and_o especial_o have_v serve_v the_o house_n faithful_o &_o deligent_o for_o the_o space_n of_o very_a near_o seven_o year_n in_o a_o free_a &_o parliamentary_a way_n of_o proceed_n that_o i_o may_v not_o now_o be_v make_v a_o servant_n to_o such_o a_o multitude_n to_o transfer_v upon_o they_o the_o colour_n of_o parliamentary_a authority_n there_o with_o all_o to_o abuse_v and_o deceive_v the_o mind_n and_o to_o destroy_v the_o life_n liberty_n and_o estate_n of_o the_o people_n of_o this_o kingdom_n and_o have_v take_v a_o solemn_a protestation_n and_o covenant_n in_o my_o place_n and_o calling_n to_o maintain_v the_o privilege_n of_o parliament_n and_o the_o rite_n and_o liberty_n of_o the_o subject_n i_o will_v not_o now_o satisfy_v myself_o but_o by_o absent_v myself_o at_o this_o time_n rather_o than_o by_o my_o presence_n to_o give_v any_o shadow_n or_o countenance_n of_o the_o authority_n of_o parliament_n to_o such_o apparent_a violation_n thereof_o neither_o can_v the_o omission_n of_o a_o circumstance_n or_o some_o formality_n in_o the_o adjournment_n of_o the_o house_n when_o through_o force_n and_o violence_n it_o can_v meet_v and_o sit_v in_o any_o sort_n as_o a_o parliament_n be_v any_o prejudice_n to_o the_o future_a meeting_n and_o proceed_n thereof_o when_o it_o may_v meet_v and_o sit_v again_o as_o a_o free_a parliament_n it_o be_v well_o know_v that_o nothing_o can_v dissolve_v this_o parliament_n but_o a_o act_n of_o parliament_n when_o a_o company_n of_o apprentice_n reformado_n and_o other_o shall_v call_v the_o ordinance_n of_o parliament_n pretend_a ordinance_n shall_v lock_v the_o door_n of_o the_o house_n upon_o they_o shall_v swear_v not_o to_o let_v they_o out_o till_o they_o have_v pass_v what_o they_o please_v concern_v the_o militia_n of_o london_n and_o other_o thing_n though_o the_o house_n have_v immediate_o before_o vote_v otherwise_o shall_v threaten_v the_o house_n in_o case_n they_o do_v not_o instant_o satisfy_v their_o demand_n shall_v knock_v without_o and_o hollow_a continual_o at_o the_o parliament_n door_n that_o the_o member_n can_v not_o be_v hear_v speak_v or_o debate_v and_o after_o that_o the_o house_n of_o commons_o have_v pass_v a_o vote_n concern_v the_o militia_n of_o london_n and_o that_o the_o speaker_n by_o the_o voice_n have_v judge_v the_o major_a part_n to_o be_v for_o the_o negative_a shall_v not_o suffer_v the_o house_n to_o be_v divide_v but_o in_o a_o threaten_a way_n require_v those_o that_o give_v their_o vote_n against_o they_o to_o consent_v to_o they_o if_o they_o will_v when_o after_o the_o house_n be_v adjourn_v they_o shall_v by_o main_a force_n thrust_v back_o the_o speaker_n again_o into_o the_o house_n and_o force_v the_o member_n in_o their_o presence_n and_o sight_n divers_a of_o they_o thrust_v into_o the_o house_n to_o vote_n what_o they_o demand_v when_o they_o shall_v justle_v pull_v and_o hale_v the_o speaker_n all_o the_o way_n he_o go_v down_o to_o his_o coach_n and_o force_v he_o to_o avoid_v their_o violence_n to_o betake_v himself_o to_o the_o next_o coach_n he_o can_v get_v into_o for_o refuge_n when_o they_o shall_v breathe_v forth_o such_o bloody_a threat_n against_o the_o member_n as_o they_o come_v forth_o of_o the_o house_n and_o since_o against_o i_o in_o particular_a at_o the_o next_o meeting_n of_o the_o house_n as_o i_o be_o credible_o inform_v and_o when_o there_o be_v no_o appearance_n but_o that_o they_o will_v continue_v to_o do_v as_o former_o they_o have_v do_v or_o far_o worse_a on_o friday_n i_o can_v not_o in_o discharge_n of_o my_o trust_n protestation_n and_o covenant_n sit_v in_o the_o chair_n of_o the_o house_n of_o commons_o while_o it_o shall_v be_v in_o such_o a_o condition_n but_o so_o soon_o as_o it_o may_v sit_v again_o in_o freedom_n and_o safety_n i_o shall_v be_v ready_a to_o attend_v the_o service_n thereof_o but_o till_o then_o as_o i_o have_v upon_o the_o forementioned_a ground_n full_o satisfy_v my_o own_o conscience_n so_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o i_o shall_v give_v the_o whole_a kingdom_n who_o interest_n be_v most_o concern_v in_o it_o ample_a satisfaction_n in_o the_o necessity_n of_o my_o absence_n william_n lenthall_n
