destroy_v the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n we_o shall_v at_o this_o time_n therefore_o show_v you_o how_o necessary_a it_o be_v for_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o lay_v a_o sure_a and_o right_a foundation_n about_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n and_o 1._o we_o shall_v show_v the_o necessity_n contrary_n 2._o what_o be_v the_o foundation_n and_o the_o reason_n of_o it_o it_o be_v necessary_a to_o lay_v good_a principle_n here_o first_o because_o there_o be_v no_o sin_n do_v ordinary_o more_o provoke_v god_n than_o the_o corrupt_a of_o his_o worship_n the_o glorious_a eye_n of_o god_n have_v not_o sparkle_v more_o with_o vengeance_n against_o any_o person_n than_o those_o that_o have_v defile_v themselves_o in_o sinful_a worship_n now_o three_o way_n god_n may_v be_v provoke_v about_o his_o worship_n way_n 1._o when_o we_o adore_v and_o worship_v a_o false_a god_n instead_o of_o he_o thus_o all_o the_o heathen_n that_o worship_v the_o sun_n or_o the_o star_n and_o other_o creature_n they_o be_v guilty_a of_o gross_a idolatry_n so_o the_o jew_n when_o they_o worship_v baal-berith_a baal-phegor_a and_o dagon_n and_o ashtaroth_n they_o do_v point_n blank_a that_o they_o shall_v not_o go_v after_o the_o the_o imagination_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n thus_o they_o set_v up_o grove_n and_o high_a place_n thus_o jeroboam_n make_v a_o golden_a calf_n they_o intend_v the_o solemn_a worship_n of_o the_o true_a god_n but_o only_o they_o forsake_v the_o true_a manner_n of_o worship_n he_o have_v command_v 3._o then_o be_v god_n worship_n corrupt_v when_o though_o we_o worship_v the_o true_a god_n after_o the_o true_a manner_n yet_o we_o add_v something_o to_o what_o be_v command_v we_o rest_v not_o in_o his_o simple_a institution_n but_o as_o eve_n add_v to_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n so_o do_v these_o thus_o the_o pharisee_n they_o retain_v the_o substantial_a worship_n of_o god_n but_o then_o they_o add_v a_o thousand_o of_o superstitious_a observation_n more_o to_o it_o now_o the_o corrupt_a of_o god_n worship_n any_o of_o these_o way_n be_v a_o grievous_a sin_n for_o though_o the_o first_o be_v a_o great_a sin_n than_o the_o second_o and_o the_o second_o than_o the_o three_o yet_o all_o of_o they_o be_v such_o as_o be_v immediate_o commit_v against_o god_n and_o for_o which_o the_o prophet_n do_v chief_o pronounce_v those_o judgement_n threaten_v by_o they_o for_o this_o sin_n jerusalem_n be_v bring_v low_a and_o the_o temple_n have_v no_o more_o a_o stone_n leave_v upon_o a_o stone_n the_o jew_n to_o this_o true_a all_o superstitious_a worship_n do_v not_o present_o rise_v to_o such_o a_o height_n many_o sound_a church_n have_v retain_v some_o superstitious_a worship_n yet_o as_o wanton_a dalliance_n and_o meretricious_a behaviour_n in_o a_o wise_a though_o they_o do_v not_o break_v the_o conjugal_a knot_n yet_o dispose_v thereunto_o and_o raise_v much_o jealousy_n and_o anger_n in_o the_o husband_n so_o it_o do_v in_o matter_n of_o god_n worship_n oh_o then_o how_o careful_a shall_v people_n be_v to_o see_v they_o go_v upon_o right_a ground_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n devil_n three_o we_o have_v need_n be_v careful_a because_o god_n be_v so_o far_o from_o accept_v of_o that_o worship_n which_o he_o have_v not_o command_v that_o he_o account_v it_o as_o do_v to_o devil_n and_o not_o to_o he_o though_o those_o that_o worship_n so_o think_v they_o honour_v god_n and_o have_v a_o good_a intention_n yet_o god_n judge_v it_o as_o do_v to_o devil_n not_o to_o he_o so_o be_v jeroboam'_v worship_n he_o do_v not_o forsake_v the_o true_a god_n he_o set_v up_o that_o worship_n only_o out_o of_o politic_a design_n and_o certain_o the_o people_n that_o go_v in_o the_o
