very_a thing_n which_o a_o good_a christian_n undervalue_v and_o despises_n when_o our_o saviour_n say_v to_o the_o pharisee_n show_v i_o the_o tribute-money_n and_o when_o he_o ask_v they_o who_o be_v this_o image_n and_o superscription_n he_o be_v not_o ignorant_a of_o either_o but_o be_v willing_a to_o let_v they_o understand_v how_o little_o he_o value_v these_o money-matter_n which_o be_v the_o least_o part_n of_o his_o care_n a_o christian_n be_v a_o man_n of_o another_o world_n and_o all_o the_o while_o he_o be_v in_o this_o he_o chief_o mind_v his_o way_n to_o the_o next_o he_o know_v that_o his_o good_a action_n be_v the_o only_a thing_n which_o have_v a_o current_n value_v there_o and_o as_o for_o the_o riches_n of_o this_o world_n he_o do_v not_o covet_v to_o be_v load_v all_o of_o it_o too_o little_a and_o can_v we_o think_v it_o too_o much_o there_o be_v only_o one_o objection_n obvious_a in_o this_o case_n if_o we_o must_v love_n god_n with_o all_o our_o heart_n with_o all_o our_o soul_n with_o all_o our_o strength_n with_o all_o our_o mind_n it_o seem_v to_o follow_v that_o we_o must_v love_v nothing_o else_o now_o this_o be_v evident_o a_o great_a mistake_n because_o the_o scripture_n immediate_o add_v that_o we_o must_v love_v our_o neighbour_n as_o ourselves_o from_o whence_o it_o follow_v clear_o 1._o that_o we_o must_v love_v ourselves_o 2._o that_o as_o we_o love_v ourselves_o so_o we_o must_v love_v our_o neighbour_n also_o it_o be_v enough_o therefore_o that_o with_o all_o our_o mind_n we_o principal_o consider_v our_o duty_n to_o our_o god_n with_o all_o our_o strength_n endeavour_v chief_o to_o serve_v he_o and_o with_o all_o our_o heart_n and_o soul_n embrace_v he_o as_o the_o most_o transcend_v object_n of_o our_o best_a affection_n it_o be_v enough_o i_o say_v that_o we_o never_o love_v any_o thing_n else_o but_o either_o by_o his_o order_n or_o with_o his_o leave_n and_o that_o all_o our_o love_n of_o any_o creature_n whatsoever_o be_v always_o subordinate_a to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o ready_a upon_o all_o occasion_n to_o give_v place_n to_o it_o without_o ever_o offer_v to_o stand_v one_o moment_n in_o above_o all_o thing_n and_o our_o neighbour_n as_o ourselves_o and_o yet_o he_o know_v not_o who_o his_o neighbour_n be_v but_o ask_v our_o saviour_n the_o question_n who_o be_v my_o neighbour_n be_v it_o a_o friend_n a_o benefactor_n a_o relation_n a_o acquaintance_n a_o partner_n a_o fellow-citizen_n a_o countryman_n or_o be_v it_o general_o any_o person_n unite_v to_o we_o in_o some_o common_a bond_n of_o humane_a society_n i_o be_o afraid_a that_o many_o christian_n be_v as_o ignorant_a as_o this_o pharisee_fw-mi be_v they_o general_o love_v themselves_o to_o that_o degree_n as_o not_o to_o care_v for_o any_o body_n else_o but_o those_o who_o be_v some_o way_n or_o other_o instrumental_a useful_a or_o serviceable_a to_o their_o honour_n interest_n or_o pleasure_n without_o something_o of_o this_o it_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n what_o become_v of_o they_o whether_o they_o sink_v of_o swim_n it_o be_v all_o the_o same_o if_o this_o be_v all_o that_o be_v command_v by_o the_o second_o precept_n of_o the_o law_n this_o part_n of_o the_o way_n to_o heaven_n will_v be_v broad_a enough_o we_o than_o shall_v have_v no_o need_n to_o fear_v that_o there_o be_v few_o that_o find_v it_o we_o may_v be_v assure_v there_o will_v be_v none_o that_o miss_v it_o to_o love_v our_o neighbour_n for_o our_o own_o sake_n be_v as_o easy_a as_o it_o be_v to_o love_n ourselves_o but_o on_o the_o contrary_a to_o love_v he_o pure_o for_o god_n sake_n be_v as_o hard_a a_o task_n as_o it_o be_v to_o love_v our_o maker_n better_o than_o ourselves_o if_o we_o love_v god_n above_o all_o thing_n and_o consequent_o above_o ourselves_o this_o love_n when_o it_o extend_v to_o our_o neighbour_n will_v natural_o set_v a_o great_a value_n upon_o his_o relation_n to_o god_n than_o his_o connexion_n with_o we_o we_o shall_v not_o then_o so_o much_o consider_v his_o affinity_n his_o kindness_n or_o his_o usefulness_n but_o we_o shall_v chief_o regard_v his_o be_v make_v to_o the_o same_o divine_a image_n redeem_a by_o the_o same_o precious_a blood_n and_o therefore_o be_v capable_a of_o the_o same_o grace_n in_o this_o world_n and_o the_o same_o glory_n in_o the_o next_o let_v a_o man_n be_v never_o so_o much_o a_o stranger_n to_o we_o nay_o let_v he_o be_v our_o great_a enemy_n yet_o it_o be_v still_o true_a that_o his_o creation_n his_o redemption_n his_o capacity_n of_o grace_n and_o glory_n be_v the_o same_o as_o we_o and_o therefore_o if_o we_o love_v god_n above_o all_o thing_n and_o ourselves_o in_o order_n to_o he_o we_o be_v bind_v to_o love_v our_o neighbour_n of_o our_o frailty_n he_o bring_v we_o into_o his_o church_n and_o there_o he_o take_v such_o care_n of_o we_o that_o we_o be_v certain_a to_o be_v cure_a unless_o we_o wilful_o refuse_v to_o apply_v the_o remedy_n which_o he_o provide_v for_o we_o he_o look_v upon_o we_o as_o his_o neighbour_n he_o love_v we_o because_o we_o be_v make_v to_o the_o divine_a image_n which_o though_o deface_v by_o sin_n and_o possess_v by_o the_o devil_n nevertheless_o be_v still_o capable_a of_o be_v ransom_v by_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o passion_n renew_v by_o the_o power_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o perfect_v by_o the_o brightness_n of_o his_o glory_n these_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o our_o saviour_n love_v we_o even_o when_o we_o be_v his_o enemy_n for_o the_o same_o reason_n we_o true_o and_o just_o love_n ourselves_o in_o spite_n of_o all_o our_o fault_n and_o though_o our_o neighbour_n hate_v we_o yet_o these_o motive_n still_o subsist_v and_o very_o well_o deserve_v our_o love_n let_v
not_o rely_v upon_o the_o length_n or_o number_n of_o our_o prayer_n we_o must_v pray_v much_o and_o labour_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o we_o must_v pray_v sometime_o and_o labour_v always_o our_o pray_v be_v only_a part_n of_o our_o duty_n the_o whole_a of_o it_o chief_o consist_v in_o do_v all_o we_o can_v to_o perform_v it_o although_o we_o pray_v for_o ourselves_o although_o the_o whole_a church_n offer_v up_o her_o prayer_n for_o we_o although_o not_o only_o the_o saint_n on_o earth_n but_o all_o the_o saint_n in_o heaven_n join_v their_o humble_a supplication_n with_o we_o all_o this_o will_v never_o prevail_v unless_o we_o add_v our_o own_o endeavour_n and_o do_v whatever_o we_o be_v able_a to_o the_o utmost_a of_o our_o power_n we_o read_v in_o the_o gospel_n when_o they_o want_v wine_n the_o mother_n of_o jesus_n say_v unto_o he_o they_o have_v no_o wine_n she_o intercede_v not_o with_o the_o authority_n of_o a_o mother_n but_o with_o the_o humility_n and_o lowliness_n of_o a_o handmaid_n she_o bare_o recommend_v their_o want_n with_o that_o simplicity_n and_o modesty_n and_o love_a confidence_n which_o even_o we_o sinner_n may_v presume_v to_o imitate_v our_o
