be_v better_a than_o all_o this_o ado_n which_o be_v no_o more_o or_o less_o than_o to_o preach_v for_o atheism_n and_o ungodliness_n in_o practice_n so_o it_o be_v veil_v with_o the_o hypocritical_a profession_n of_o the_o christian_a faith_n and_o this_o unhappy_a sort_n of_o preacher_n do_v seldom_o miss_v to_o fall_v upon_o the_o real_a and_o suppose_a miscarriage_n of_o man_n that_o be_v or_o seem_v religious_a in_o some_o part_n of_o their_o sermon_n and_o familiar_a discourse_n which_o be_v do_v to_o so_o odious_a a_o end_n as_o to_o bring_v serious_a religiousness_n itself_o into_o dislike_n it_o make_v the_o best_a of_o the_o hearer_n abhor_v such_o reflection_n because_o they_o abhor_v the_o scope_n of_o they_o believe_v that_o holiness_n need_v not_o to_o be_v preach_v against_o in_o the_o world_n till_o man_n heart_n be_v more_o incline_v to_o it_o and_o till_o all_o its_o enemy_n abate_v their_o opposition_n and_o if_o it_o be_v to_o be_v do_v yet_o not_o by_o a_o but_o i_o great_o fear_v lest_o the_o generation_n which_o be_v now_o spring_v up_o and_o know_v not_o those_o man_n nor_o their_o miscarriage_n will_v lose_v the_o benefit_n of_o these_o dreadful_a a_o humble_a upright_a soul_n that_o want_v such_o utterance_n shall_v be_v say_v to_o be_v no_o professor_n and_o so_o to_o be_v unworthy_a of_o the_o communion_n of_o saint_n mistake_v i_o not_o i_o know_v that_o though_o profession_n may_v be_v without_o sincerity_n yet_o sincerity_n can_v be_v without_o some_o profession_n when_o there_o be_v opportunity_n to_o make_v it_o and_o i_o know_v that_o grace_n be_v a_o vital_a principle_n and_o like_o fire_n which_o will_v work_v and_o seek_v a_o vent_n if_o you_o will_v restrain_v it_o and_o that_o gift_n of_o utterance_n be_v great_a mercy_n of_o god_n for_o the_o edification_n of_o the_o church_n but_o here_o lie_v your_o unhappy_a error_n in_o this_o case_n 1._o you_o take_v the_o common_a profession_n of_o christianity_n to_o be_v no_o profession_n at_o all_o because_o there_o be_v want_v a_o profession_n of_o great_a zeal_n and_o forwardness_n when_o as_o the_o common_a sort_n of_o people_n in_o this_o land_n do_v profess_v to_o stand_v to_o their_o baptismal_a covenant_n in_o which_o they_o own_o the_o essential_a part_n of_o godliness_n and_o christianity_n and_o all_o that_o be_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n to_o salvation_n he_o that_o true_o understand_v the_o baptismal_a covenant_n and_o consent_v to_o it_o do_v perform_v all_o which_o be_v necessary_a to_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n if_o he_o profess_v this_o he_o profess_v both_o true_a faith_n and_o repentance_n and_o sanctification_n and_o mortification_n and_o all_o that_o be_v necessary_a to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian._n how_o then_o can_v you_o say_v that_o these_o be_v no_o professor_n i_o tell_v you_o except_o a_o few_o apostate_n the_o common_a sort_n of_o people_n in_o this_o land_n be_v professor_n of_o true_a faith_n and_o godliness_n whether_o they_o be_v true_a professor_n without_o dissemble_v be_v another_o question_n but_o they_o be_v professor_n of_o the_o truth_n if_o you_o say_v that_o their_o ignorance_n and_o ungodly_a life_n do_v show_v that_o they_o either_o understand_v not_o the_o baptismal_a covenant_n or_o consent_v not_o to_o it_o i_o answer_v mark_v well_o what_o you_o say_v yourselves_o for_o this_o do_v but_o show_v that_o they_o be_v hypocrite_n you_o can_v say_v then_o that_o they_o be_v no_o professor_n but_o that_o they_o be_v dissemble_a professor_n they_o profess_v the_o truth_n they_o do_v not_o true_o and_o upright_o profess_v it_o i_o tell_v you_o all_o the_o common_a sort_n of_o the_o people_n in_o england_n be_v either_o saint_n or_o hypocrite_n see_v how_o i_o have_v move_v this_o to_o they_o in_o my_o treatise_n call_v the_o formal_a hypocrite_n they_o all_o profess_v enough_o to_o save_v they_o if_o they_o sincere_o profess_v it_o he_o that_o be_v baptize_v and_o profess_v himself_o a_o christian_n and_o yet_o be_v a_o drunkard_n a_o swearer_n a_o fornicator_n or_o such_o like_a be_v certain_o a_o hypocrite_n as_o go_v against_o his_o own_o profession_n the_o very_a creed_n lord_n prayer_n and_o ten_o commandment_n have_v enough_o to_o condemn_v he_o as_o a_o hypocrite_n and_o will_v you_o now_o come_v in_o and_o justify_v these_o man_n from_o their_o hypocrisy_n by_o say_v that_o they_o be_v no_o professor_n if_o they_o be_v no_o professor_n they_o can_v be_v no_o hypocrite_n but_o mere_a atheist_n or_o infidel_n i_o know_v that_o those_o be_v the_o high_a sort_n of_o hypocrite_n who_o counterfeit_v the_o high_a zeal_n and_o piety_n by_o the_o high_a profession_n but_o this_o be_v but_o a_o difference_n in_o degree_n who_o ever_o profess_v to_o be_v a_o christian_n profess_v true_a repentance_n faith_n and_o holiness_n and_o be_v a_o hypocrite_n if_o he_o be_v not_o a_o saint_n and_o then_o consider_v that_o if_o you_o will_v exclude_v any_o of_o these_o from_o the_o communion_n of_o the_o church_n it_o must_v not_o be_v because_o they_o be_v no_o professor_n but_o because_o they_o be_v hypocrite_n ignorant_a or_o scandalous_a and_o if_o so_o than_o no_o man_n must_v be_v shut_v out_o but_o upon_o sufficient_a proof_n a_o unproved_a hypocrite_n or_o sinner_n be_v no_o hypocrite_n or_o sinner_n in_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o church_n and_o therefore_o hypocrite_n be_v always_o a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o visible_a church_n otherwise_o church-communion_n will_v be_v found_v on_o mere_a injustice_n
and_o tyranny_n if_o man_n shall_v be_v call_v ignorant_a scandalous_a and_o hypocrite_n without_o proof_n and_o therefore_o to_o exclude_v baptize_v professor_n by_o whole_a parish_n or_o multitude_n of_o conscience_n to_o expiate_v the_o guilt_n of_o whoredom_n murder_n or_o some_o notorious_a sin_n which_o the_o contemn_a secular_n never_o commit_v and_o it_o be_v somewhat_o easy_a to_o proud_a and_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o true_a and_o the_o high_a honour_n to_o be_v wise_a and_o good_a and_o it_o be_v exceed_o natural_a to_o man_n to_o desire_v honour_n and_o it_o be_v lawful_a to_o have_v a_o due_a and_o moderate_a sense_n and_o regard_n to_o our_o honour_n and_o all_o this_o be_v so_o how_o easy_a be_v it_o for_o pride_n to_o take_v this_o advantage_n and_o to_o go_v a_o alone_o and_o by_o the_o three_o we_o overvalue_v man_n and_o his_o esteem_n and_o live_v upon_o the_o thought_n and_o breath_n of_o mortal_n and_o seek_v the_o honour_n which_o be_v give_v by_o one_o to_o another_o more_o than_o the_o honour_n which_o be_v of_o god_n whereas_o we_o shall_v make_v it_o our_o grand_a care_n and_o study_v to_o be_v please_v to_o our_o maker_n which_o be_v the_o
