plant_v or_o the_o gospel_n preach_v in_o other_o place_n where_o there_o be_v some_o show_n of_o a_o church_n some_o ordinance_n some_o minister_n yet_o even_o here_o they_o think_v the_o church_n call_v for_o many_o more_o minister_n at_o least_o for_o much_o more_o and_o much_o better_a preach_n than_o it_o yet_o have_v special_o since_o the_o late_a cruel_a tyranny_n of_o some_o lording_n prelate_n have_v almost_o quite_o put_v down_o ordinance_n silence_v good_a minister_n and_o forbid_v preach_v have_v so_o detain_v the_o truth_n and_o smother_v it_o by_o unrighteousness_n that_o there_o be_v scarce_o leave_v the_o face_n of_o a_o true_a church_n they_o conceive_v this_o a_o extraordinary_a time_n a_o extraordinary_a case_n and_o call_v for_o all_o that_o be_v enable_v by_o god_n with_o part_n and_o gift_n fit_a for_o such_o exercise_n and_o they_o conceive_v 30._o or_o 40._o or_o a_o 100_o good_a man_n of_o any_o one_o or_o more_o congregation_n to_o be_v as_o fit_a judge_n of_o their_o part_n and_o ability_n every_o way_n as_o one_o lord_n bishop_n and_o his_o ignorant_a perhaps_o drunken_a chaplain_n who_o make_v scruple_n of_o admit_v any_o to_o order_n but_o bower_n and_o cringer_n sink_n of_o superstition_n yet_o when_o they_o please_v they_o can_v pose_v in_o a_o alehouse_n and_o lay_v hand_n well_o quicken_v with_o angel_n on_o tapster_n cobbler_n butcher_n and_o many_o such_o that_o be_v so_o far_o from_o the_o smell_n of_o a_o college_n that_o they_o never_o see_v a_o abcee_n or_o primer_n to_o purpose_n much_o less_o
a_o ferula_fw-la in_o a_o grammar_n school_n in_o the_o last_o place_n they_o solemn_o profess_v they_o be_v ready_a to_o hear_v or_o read_v any_o that_o either_o by_o writing_n preach_v or_o private_a discourse_n shall_v inform_v they_o better_o than_o now_o they_o see_v or_o know_v they_o will_v thank_v any_o man_n that_o will_v satisfy_v their_o conscience_n and_o convince_v their_o judgement_n for_o they_o profess_v they_o be_v not_o act_v by_o vainglory_n or_o faction_n but_o conscience_n and_o desire_n of_o propagate_a truth_n and_o spread_v the_o gospel_n as_o god_n shall_v give_v they_o opportunity_n and_o suppose_v such_o part_n gift_n and_o ability_n fit_a for_o those_o duty_n they_o conceive_v no_o man_n may_v upbraid_v they_o with_o poverty_n or_o former_a live_n tent_n yea_o though_o they_o have_v not_o such_o part_n and_o gift_n as_o saint_n paul_n yet_o they_o think_v the_o work_n of_o preach_v much_o more_o compatible_a with_o all_o work_n of_o the_o hand_n than_o with_o any_o one_o other_o study_n of_o the_o brain_n or_o mind_n and_o yet_o they_o see_v many_o civil_a lawyer_n take_v live_n and_o have_v cure_n of_o soul_n yea_o and_o all_o their_o lord_n bishop_n have_v two_o calling_n two_o several_a opposite_a study_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o those_o two_o they_o can_v spend_v as_o much_o or_o more_o time_n at_o card_n and_o dice_n or_o worse_o than_o at_o either_o of_o their_o calling_n nor_o be_v they_o so_o tie_v to_o their_o outward_a calling_n but_o if_o the_o church_n shall_v think_v it_o fit_a they_o be_v ready_a to_o give_v up_o all_o and_o apply_v themselves_o whole_o to_o the_o study_n of_o scripture_n and_o work_v of_o the_o ministry_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n they_o follow_v their_o calling_n not_o live_v idle_o or_o go_v up_o and_o down_o tattle_v as_o busibody_n but_o be_v diligent_a to_o serve_v god_n both_o with_o their_o hand_n heart_n also_o yea_o and_o tongue_n too_o if_o god_n shall_v call_v they_o and_o give_v opportunity_n as_o well_o as_o ability_n i_o will_v not_o be_v mistake_v by_o my_o reader_n all_o this_o time_n i_o be_o speak_v their_o word_n not_o my_o own_o all_o that_o i_o desire_n be_v that_o they_o may_v have_v a_o fair_a hear_v before_o they_o be_v severe_o censure_v and_o i_o move_v this_o the_o rather_o because_o they_o be_v still_o ready_a to_o say_v most_o that_o condemn_v that_o i_o dare_v not_o set_v on_o the_o other_o neither_o indeed_o do_v i_o think_v it_o needful_a most_o of_o that_o which_o they_o say_v be_v such_o that_o it_o be_v not_o like_a to_o do_v much_o hurt_n and_o so_o i_o think_v it_o not_o needful_a to_o refute_v it_o what_o must_v be_v refute_v may_v much_o better_o be_v do_v by_o other_o of_o better_a part_n and_o founder_v judgement_n for_o that_o by_o this_o course_n all_o error_n and_o heresy_n shall_v quick_o come_v to_o be_v vent_v and_o maintain_v in_o the_o church_n when_o every_o man_n may_v preach_v that_o will_n and_o what_o he_o will_v without_o control_v to_o this_o argument_n all_o their_o answer_n that_o i_o can_v remember_v be_v this._n first_o that_o they_o maintain_v not_o that_o any_o man_n may_v preach_v that_o will._n no_o they_o say_v it_o must_v be_v one_o of_o part_n gift_n and_o ability_n fit_a for_o a_o preacher_n and_o that_o not_o only_o in_o his_o own_o fancy_n but_o in_o the_o judgement_n of_o many_o godly_a man_n who_o be_v many_o be_v as_o like_a to_o be_v fit_a and_o able_a to_o judge_v of_o ability_n on_o their_o trial_n as_o any_o one_o bishop_n chaplain_n that_o yet_o use_v to_o present_v to_o his_o lord_n after_o little_a or_o no_o pose_n one_o who_o he_o never_o hear_v speak_v much_o less_o preach_v or_o pray_v before_o he_o come_v for_o holy_a order_n second_o they_o say_v they_o maintain_v not_o that_o any_o such_o man_n so_o gift_v and_o call_v be_v judge_v fit_a by_o the_o vote_n of_o many_o may_v yet_o preach_v what_o he_o will_n no_o they_o be_v as_o much_o limit_v and_o keep_v within_o bound_n as_o if_o they_o be_v licence_v by_o the_o bishop_n for_o if_o he_o preach_v false_a doctrine_n either_o in_o matter_n of_o church_n or_o state_n they_o say_v the_o bishop_n key_n or_o at_o least_o his_o long_a sword_n may_v reach_v he_o as_o well_o in_o a_o parlour_n or_o some_o little_a pulpit_n as_o if_o he_o be_v a_o licentiate_a in_o a_o great_a cathedral_n and_o if_o he_o preach_v no_o false_a doctrine_n must_v he_o suffer_v say_v they_o for_o preach_v true_a it_o be_v true_a no_o wise_a man_n live_v will_v blame_v much_o less_o punish_v or_o fine_a a_o man_n that_o speak_v a_o good_a true_a discourse_n of_o law_n or_o physic_n though_o he_o be_v licentiate_a in_o neither_o but_o these_o poor_a man_n consider_v not_o the_o case_n be_v not_o the_o same_o in_o preach_v a_o true_a discourse_n in_o divinity_n yet_o let_v we_o give_v way_n and_o they_o will_v speak_v more_o again_o they_o say_v suppose_v they_o do_v hold_v which_o they_o do_v not_o that_o any_o man_n live_v may_v preach_v that_o will_v and_o what_o he_o will_v yet_o perhaps_o there_o will_v not_o follow_v so_o great_a inconvenience_n as_o some_o imagine_v for_o all_o such_o suppose_a preacher_n be_v either_o wise_a man_n or_o fool_n if_o wise_a they_o will_v preach_v wise_o and_o so_o do_v good_n if_o fool_n foolish_o and_o so_o do_v no_o hurt_a or_o at_o least_o very_a little_a hurt_n for_o it_o be_v not_o for_o a_o fool_n to_o broach_v a_o heresy_n and_o maintain_v it_o or_o spread_v it_o much_o no_o arrius_n pelagius_n arminius_n and_o such_o be_v man_n of_o the_o great_a part_n but_o set_v wrong_v yea_o suppose_v some_o of_o these_o non_fw-fr licentiate_a preacher_n be_v man_n of_o the_o great_a part_n possible_a and_o so_o possible_a to_o become_v dangerous_a heretic_n do_v the_o heresy_n spread_v itself_o the_o more_o for_o not_o be_v license_v may_v not_o this_o great_a man_n do_v as_o much_o hurt_n yea_o much_o more_o if_o he_o be_v license_v than_o now_o he_o be_v not_o if_o any_o answer_n it_o be_v true_a he_o be_v like_a to_o do_v more_o hurt_n if_o license_v but_o therefore_o the_o bishop_n in_o wisdom_n will_v not_o licence_n he_o they_o rejoin_v first_o be_v it_o probable_a one_o bishop_n in_o this_o case_n will_v show_v more_o care_n and_o conscience_n than_o twenty_o or_o thirty_o good_a man_n in_o a_o congregation_n where_o this_o part_a man_n will_v preach_v but_o again_o suppose_v there_o be_v never_o a_o good_a man_n in_o all_o his_o auditory_a or_o that_o all_o the_o good_a man_n there_o will_v not_o have_v care_n to_o suppress_v this_o man_n from_o do_v hurt_n how_o shall_v how_o can_v the_o bishop_n do_v this_o how_o can_v he_o keep_v he_o from_o vent_v and_o spread_v his_o heresy_n first_o when_o this_o man_n come_v for_o a_o licence_n to_o the_o bishop_n no_o man_n can_v tell_v how_o he_o mean_v to_o preach_v when_o he_o be_v license_v except_o the_o bishop_n perchance_o be_v a_o prophet_n also_o as_o well_o as_o a_o priest_n and_o king_n either_o he_o have_v preach_v before_o his_o come_n for_o this_o licence_n or_o he_o have_v not_o if_o he_o have_v not_o no_o bishop_n can_v tell_v how_o he_o will_v preach_v nor_o can_v any_o wise_a man_n live_v commend_v he_o to_o the_o bishop_n as_o fit_a to_o make_v a_o good_a preacher_n since_o he_o that_o be_v the_o best_a scholar_n live_v and_o perhaps_o as_o good_a a_o man_n as_o any_o yet_o may_v prove_v but_o a_o ill_a preacher_n if_o he_o have_v preach_v before_o and_o do_v well_o without_o licence_n than_o it_o seem_v it_o be_v lawful_a to_o preach_v without_o a_o licence_n for_o probation_n no_o doubt_n though_o most_o of_o late_o have_v deny_v this_o but_o
i_o ask_v how_o long_o shall_v he_o be_v a_o probationer_n how_o many_o year_n month_n week_n though_o he_o preach_v ten_o good_a sermon_n no_o man_n tan_o tell_v but_o in_o the_o next_o he_o mean_v to_o broach_v a_o heresy_n but_o alas_o these_o poor_a man_n see_v not_o how_o weak_a all_o this_o be_v for_o be_v it_o not_o easy_a for_o three_o or_o four_o man_n or_o a_o bishop_n chaplain_n to_o commend_v a_o man_n be_v he_o scholar_n or_o groom_n or_o butler_n or_o what_o he_o will_v let_v the_o bishop_n without_o see_v or_o smell_v this_o man_n give_v he_o his_o blessing_n blindfold_a and_o seal_v he_o a_o licence_n what_o hurt_n be_v in_o all_o this_o for_o if_o this_o man_n preach_v well_o the_o church_n will_v get_v good_a if_o ill_a can_v the_o bishop_n as_o soon_o pull_v he_o down_o as_o he_o set_v he_o up_o they_o answer_v suppose_v he_o may_v which_o be_v hard_o to_o suppose_v since_o order_n once_o give_v leave_v a_o indelible_a character_n why_o may_v not_o ten_o or_o twenty_o man_n good_a man_n in_o a_o congregation_n as_o well_o set_v up_o a_o man_n and_o try_v how_o he_o will_v prove_v for_o if_o well_o it_o be_v well_o he_o will_v do_v good_a if_o ill_a these_o ten_o or_o twenty_o man_n can_v as_o easy_o pull_v he_o down_o again_o as_o set_v he_o up_o not_o so_o for_o the_o bishop_n be_v still_o a_o very_a wise_a discreet_a good_a holy_a man_n and_o be_v entrust_v by_o the_o church_n will_v have_v a_o special_a care_n even_o more_o than_o a_o hundred_o other_o to_o set_v up_o a_o good_a man_n or_o else_o pull_v he_o quick_o down_o again_o to_o this_o they_o yet_o answer_v the_o bishop_n can_v tell_v how_o or_o what_o he_o preach_v when_o he_o have_v set_v he_o up_o except_o he_o can_v be_v present_a in_o all_o place_n at_o least_o many_o at_o once_o to_o â—eare_z all_o young_a preacher_n that_o he_o liceuse_v and_o therefore_o though_o he_o will_v pull_v he_o down_o yet_o he_o can_v because_o he_o can_v be_v still_o present_a to_o hear_v he_o though_o he_o come_v once_o twice_o ten_o time_n yet_o the_o preacher_n may_v hold_v in_o all_o his_o herise_n till_o he_o see_v the_o bishop_n absent_a and_o sometime_o he_o must_v be_v absent_a but_o may_v not_o the_o congregation_n then_o go_v and_o complain_v to_o the_o bishop_n if_o their_o preacher_n do_v amiss_o and_o upon_o complaint_n the_o bishop_n will_v may_v and_o must_v suppress_v that_o error_n if_o he_o do_v not_o they_o say_v they_o be_v still_o where_o they_o be_v but_o if_o he_o do_v censure_n this_o preacher_n on_o the_o complaint_n of_o the_o congregation_n either_o he_o see_v they_o complain_v unjust_o and_o then_o he_o do_v injustice_n in_o censuring-upon_a a_o unjust_a complaint_n or_o else_o he_o must_v yield_v they_o complain_v just_o and_o then_o he_o also_o grant_v that_o this_o congregation_n have_v wisdom_n enough_o to_o judge_v whether_o a_o man_n preach_v well_o or_o ill_o and_o if_o so_o why_o may_v not_o the_o congregation_n censure_v he_o for_o ill_a preach_n without_o complaint_n to_o one_o bishop_n sed_fw-la frustra_fw-la fit_a per_fw-la plura_fw-la quod_fw-la fieri_fw-la potest_fw-la per_fw-la pauâ—iora_fw-la and_o so_o i_o leave_v this_o and_o come_v to_o another_o great_a question_n that_o be_v wont_n still_o to_o be_v propound_v to_o these_o poor_a non_fw-la license_v preacher_n it_o be_v this_o why_o if_o indeed_o they_o be_v fit_a or_o seem_v fit_a or_o do_v but_o think_v themselves_o fit_a to_o be_v minister_n why_o then_o do_v they_o not_o enter_v into_o order_n or_o at_o least_o present_a themselves_o show_v their_o desire_n to_o be_v in_o holy_a order_n if_o indeed_o they_o may_v be_v find_v fit_a for_o the_o ministry_n as_o they_o think_v themselves_o why_o do_v they_o halt_v between_o two_o either_o let_v they_o serve_v the_o church_n whole_o and_o so_o be_v in_o order_n or_o else_o let_v they_o forbear_v and_o not_o meddle_v with_o dispense_n of_o holy_a ordinance_n this_o seem_v to_o i_o a_o very_a serious_a question_n and_o therefore_o i_o much_o desire_v to_o hear_v their_o answer_n some_o of_o they_o say_v they_o know_v not_o yet_o whether_o they_o be_v worthy_a or_o fit_a to_o take_v on_o they_o those_o great_a office_n which_o follow_v order_n only_o they_o desire_v they_o may_v have_v leave_n as_o probationer_n to_o exercise_v or_o keep_v act_n before_o the_o church_n till_o the_o church_n shall_v approve_v of_o they_o and_o call_v they_o out_o judge_v they_o faithful_a for_o high_a employment_n or_o general_o to_o dispense_v all_o the_o ordinance_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n they_o meddle_v only_o with_o such_o ordinance_n as_o they_o conceive_v not_o proper_a to_o church_n officer_n only_o but_o in_o some_o sort_n common_a to_o all_o christian_n yea_o to_o all_o man_n as_o be_v say_v before_o other_o say_v they_o will_v glad_o with_o all_o their_o heart_n be_v consecrate_v to_o god_n and_o whole_o give_v themselves_o up_o to_o his_o service_n and_o worship_n in_o the_o ministry_n but_o they_o be_v afraid_a to_o take_v order_n as_o order_n be_v now_o confer_v in_o this_o state_n and_o yet_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n they_o dare_v not_o abstain_v from_o preach_v where_o they_o have_v opportunity_n and_o a_o willing_a auditory_a lest_o they_o shall_v detain_v the_o truth_n god_n have_v reveal_v to_o they_o and_o shall_v be_v guilty_a of_o hide_v their_o talon_n in_o a_o napkin_n for_o they_o think_v they_o may_v do_v many_o thing_n belong_v though_o not_o proper_a to_o a_o minister_n though_o they_o be_v not_o nor_o can_v be_v as_o thing_n now_o stand_v in_o holy_a order_n their_o instance_n be_v david_n who_o be_v a_o king_n and_o of_o the_o tribe_n of_o judah_n and_o so_o can_v be_v neither_o priest_n nor_o levite_n yet_o they_o find_v king_n david_n often_o preach_v else_o they_o understand_v not_o the_o meaning_n of_o those_o phrase_n o_o come_v hither_o and_o i_o will_v show_v you_o what_o god_n have_v do_v for_o my_o poor_a soul_n and_o the_o like_a if_o these_o man_n in_o this_o be_v serious_a and_o do_v not_o pretend_v conscience_n where_o it_o be_v some_o other_o principle_n that_o act_v they_o to_o some_o low_a end_n i_o can_v but_o much_o pity_v they_o that_o if_o they_o be_v fit_a they_o neither_o may_v be_v license_v nor_o yet_o preach_v without_o licence_n but_o let_v we_o see_v why_o they_o dare_v not_o enter_v into_o order_n and_o so_o be_v license_v minister_n they_o answer_v that_o they_o have_v not_o so_o much_o against_o order_n confer_v by_o our_o church_n or_o the_o manner_n of_o confer_v they_o though_o under_o some_o bishop_n this_o have_v be_v very_o strange_a and_o not_o warrantable_a either_o by_o law_n of_o god_n or_o man_n they_o conceive_v as_o they_o have_v in_o their_o judgement_n and_o conscience_n against_o the_o power_n confer_v they_o for_o they_o doubt_v not_o to_o affirm_v that_o he_o who_o ever_o he_o be_v that_o take_v on_o himself_o power_n which_o the_o scripture_n have_v not_o give_v he_o to_o appoint_v dictate_v or_o command_v any_o one_o thing_n either_o in_o doctrine_n or_o discipline_n though_o the_o thing_n itself_o may_v possible_o be_v good_a yet_o he_o that_o so_o dictate_v be_v antichristian_a encroach_a on_o the_o regal_a office_n of_o christ_n and_o so_o a_o traitor_n in_o religion_n now_o they_o dare_v not_o touch_v that_o which_o how_o good_a soever_o in_o itself_o yet_o come_v in_o power_n and_o virtue_n of_o a_o antichristian_a traitor_n yea_o though_o such_o a_o one_o shall_v command_v they_o a_o thing_n very_o
