of_o the_o church_n we_o may_v see_v how_o the_o lord_n ordain_v two_o diverse_a degree_n of_o minister_n who_o when_o he_o distinguish_v in_o number_n and_o dissever_v into_o distinct_a company_n do_v he_o not_o declare_v that_o in_o honour_n and_o authority_n they_o be_v not_o equal_a not_o all_o of_o a_o company_n the_o which_o thing_n very_o he_o will_v never_o have_v do_v have_v he_o once_o know_v and_o he_o shall_v know_v that_o it_o have_v be_v a_o sin_n for_o minister_n to_o be_v diverse_a in_o degree_n and_o not_o equal_a in_o dignity_n and_o these_o be_v the_o first_o preacher_n of_o the_o gospel_n under_o the_o lord_n direction_n while_o himself_o be_v yet_o resident_a among_o they_o but_o after_o he_o ascend_v into_o heaven_n he_o raise_v up_o prophet_n also_o those_o which_o have_v a_o extrordinary_a vocation_n from_o god_n immediate_a and_o not_o from_o man_n so_o by_o these_o two_o last_o name_n of_o doctor_n and_o pastor_n whether_o we_o take_v they_o as_o both_o one_o or_o otherwise_o he_o seem_v to_o understand_v those_o which_o by_o man_n be_v prefer_v to_o the_o church_n and_o that_o bishop_n and_o elder_n be_v those_o who_o paul_n call_v pastor_n it_o sufficient_o appear_v by_o that_o in_o the_o twentieth_o chapter_n of_o the_o act_n where_o paul_n entertain_v the_o elder_n he_o have_v send_v for_o from_o ephesus_n tell_v they_o that_o they_o be_v appoint_v of_o god_n bishop_n to_o feed_v the_o church_n and_o thereupon_o we_o also_o acknowledge_v no_o elder_a or_o bishop_n in_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v not_o the_o matter_n which_o i_o handle_v shall_v require_v in_o the_o mean_a time_n you_o shall_v understande_v that_o the_o office_n of_o these_o pastor_n and_o doctor_n albeit_o ordain_v of_o man_n do_v not_o differ_v in_o kind_n from_o that_o of_o the_o apostle_n for_o the_o chief_a part_n of_o they_o both_o be_v to_o instruct_v exhort_v reprehend_v and_o refel_v the_o adversaries_n of_o the_o must_v be_v discern_v rather_o by_o themselves_o as_o they_o be_v in_o deed_n then_o by_o their_o name_n as_o they_o be_v call_v let_v we_o always_o chief_o regard_v what_o they_o be_v then_o what_o they_o be_v call_v that_o we_o may_v true_o distinguish_v between_o thing_n that_o differ_v not_o so_o much_o in_o name_n as_o in_o nature_n the_o first_o elder_n therefore_o who_o the_o apostle_n as_o then_o none_o especial_a and_o peculiar_a elder_n if_o any_o man_n come_v in_o and_o say_v that_o these_o thing_n happen_v after_o the_o apostle_n time_n and_o that_o hierome_n do_v not_o so_o much_o respect_v the_o church_n of_o corinth_n as_o diverse_a other_o and_o therefore_o speak_v not_o of_o corinth_n but_o of_o the_o people_n who_o be_v fall_v into_o diverse_a schism_n i_o come_v judge_v the_o quick_a and_o the_o dead_a they_o be_v forthwith_a reject_v base_a and_o simple_a man_n and_o be_v without_o suspicion_n set_v at_o liberty_n in_o like_a manner_n no_o question_n the_o private_a estate_n of_o the_o first_o apostle_n be_v both_o a_o testimony_n unto_o they_o of_o their_o innocency_n and_o a_o safe_a conduct_n among_o the_o nation_n for_o their_o security_n but_o what_o will_v not_o the_o roman_a caesar_n and_o other_o like_a magistrate_n have_v do_v if_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n have_v be_v send_v and_o set_v forth_o with_o power_n of_o war_n and_o other_o abiliment_n of_o like_a power_n these_o the_o precept_n of_o our_o saviour_n may_v therefore_o worthy_o be_v allege_v against_o the_o tyrannique_n bishop_n of_o rome_n who_o challenge_v the_o right_a of_o all_o empire_n and_o hold_v the_o roman_a empire_n as_o his_o proper_a fee_n but_o they_o can_v be_v allege_v against_o those_o bishop_n which_o live_v subject_a unto_o law_n and_o magistrate_n and_o keep_v themselves_o in_o a_o proportionable_a order_n with_o other_o citizen_n wherefore_o where_o the_o gospel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v honourable_o receive_v by_o public_a authority_n how_o shall_v this_o abatement_n of_o our_o saviour_n be_v wrest_v against_o all_o bishop_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v in_o that_o reverend_a account_n under_o a_o christian_a magistrate_n which_o the_o law_n of_o all_o nation_n and_o even_o the_o very_a law_n of_o nature_n itself_o and_o the_o write_a law_n of_o god_n also_o do_v express_o award_v they_o as_o for_o those_o place_n of_o scripture_n about_o the_o which_o we_o now_o contend_v this_o only_a may_v be_v gather_v that_o the_o pastor_n of_o church_n in_o respect_n of_o their_o ministry_n have_v no_o power_n over_o the_o body_n or_o good_n of_o christian_n neither_o that_o they_o can_v challenge_v unto_o themselves_o those_o right_n which_o god_n have_v place_v in_o the_o power_n of_o the_o magistrate_n only_o but_o that_o the_o same_o magistrate_n in_o no_o place_n at_o no_o time_n for_o no_o cause_n may_v commit_v no_o portion_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n unto_o the_o bishop_n of_o the_o church_n it_o be_v not_o as_o yet_o prove_v neither_o can_v be_v if_o i_o be_v not_o deceive_v chap._n xxii_o that_o the_o pastor_n of_o the_o church_n for_o the_o necessity_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n may_v attend_v some_o time_n upon_o worldly_a affair_n if_o it_o be_v allowable_a to_o detract_v some_o part_n of_o that_o time_n which_o otherwise_o be_v to_o be_v employ_v in_o the_o study_n of_o the_o scripture_n that_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o church_n may_v the_o better_o provide_v for_o the_o private_a good_a of_o his_o own_o family_n much_o more_o may_v the_o same_o be_v convert_v to_o the_o good_a of_o the_o commonwealth_n the_o man_n be_v able_a to_o assist_v the_o same_o either_o by_o his_o aid_n or_o his_o advice_n where_o either_o the_o want_n or_o the_o unwillingness_n of_o any_o church_n be_v such_o that_o either_o it_o can_v or_o will_v not_o afford_v the_o minister_n his_o due_a honour_n it_o be_v lawful_a for_o he_o to_o have_v recourse_n unto_o the_o labour_n of_o his_o hand_n where-upon_o the_o elibertine_n council_n oftentime_o pretermit_v bishop_n priest_n and_o deacon_n to_o traffic_v for_o their_o better_a maintenance_n the_o which_o thing_n be_v also_o allow_v by_o diverse_a other_o canon_n which_o i_o suppose_v superfluous_a to_o rehearse_v see_v that_o one_o instance_n of_o paul_n may_v suffice_v for_o all_o but_o now_o if_o so_o be_v that_o private_a necessity_n may_v privilege_v the_o detenee_n of_o the_o ministry_n what_o may_v public_a necessity_n do_v and_o yet_o if_o at_o any_o time_n the_o minister_n be_v exercise_v for_o his_o private_a commodity_n in_o base_a and_o wretched_a business_n thereis_n no_o man_n great_o offend_v with_o it_o but_o if_o he_o be_v employ_v in_o any_o honest_a and_o honourable_a affair_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n now_o a_o day_n there_o be_v no_o man_n that_o do_v not_o invie_v it_o and_o inveigh_v against_o it_o and_o whence_o for_o gods-sake_n be_v this_o of_o devotion_n from_o love_n or_o from_o envy_n i_o say_v not_o these_o thing_n as_o if_o i_o think_v that_o bishop_n or_o other_o pastor_n be_v rash_o to_o be_v encumber_v in_o their_o holy_a course_n but_o where_o the_o necessity_n or_o great_a commodity_n of_o the_o church_n or_o commonwealth_n do_v require_v the_o same_o there_o be_v nor_o reason_n nor_o religion_n against_o it_o be_v not_o bishop_n citizen_n also_o and_o
