people_n though_o not_o in_o the_o measure_n of_o penance_n to_o be_v enjoin_v yet_o in_o the_o perform_n of_o it_o always_o provide_v that_o this_o interest_n of_o the_o people_n be_v ground_v upon_o no_o other_o presumption_n that_o any_o man_n be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n or_o in_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n and_o endow_v with_o god_n spirit_n then_o that_o which_o the_o law_n of_o the_o church_n whereby_o he_o enjoy_v communion_n which_o the_o church_n creat_v for_o this_o presumption_n must_v needs_o be_v strong_a concern_v the_o clergy_n by_o their_o estate_n than_o it_o can_v be_v concern_v the_o people_n because_o by_o their_o estate_n they_o be_v to_o be_v the_o choice_n of_o the_o people_n and_o though_o as_o all_o moral_a quality_n be_v subject_a to_o many_o exception_n some_o of_o the_o people_n may_v be_v better_a christian_n then_o some_o of_o the_o clergy_n yet_o a_o legal_a presumption_n that_o any_o of_o they_o be_v so_o must_v needs_o be_v destructive_a to_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n but_o no_o disorder_n in_o religion_n can_v be_v so_o great_a as_o to_o justify_v the_o obdurate_a resolution_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n to_o withdraw_v the_o scripture_n from_o the_o people_n there_o be_v nothing_o more_o manifest_a then_o that_o the_o lamentable_a distraction_n which_o we_o be_v under_o have_v proceed_v from_o the_o presumption_n of_o particular_a christian_n up_o on_o their_o understanding_n in_o the_o scripture_n proceed_v to_o think_v their_o quality_n capable_a of_o reform_v the_o church_n only_o those_o that_o can_v have_v revelation_n the_o same_o evidence_n as_o we_o have_v for_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o scripture_n which_o because_o it_o can_v be_v do_v therefore_o be_v this_o plea_n lay_v aside_o even_o by_o they_o who_o nevertheless_o profess_v to_o embrace_v the_o communion_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n because_o they_o believe_v the_o church_n to_o be_v infallible_a but_o if_o it_o be_v destructive_a to_o all_o use_n of_o reason_n to_o deny_v the_o conclusion_n admit_v the_o premise_n then_o let_v he_o never_o hope_v to_o prevail_v in_o any_o dispute_n that_o hold_v the_o conclusion_n deny_v the_o premise_n for_o to_o hold_v the_o sentence_n of_o the_o church_n infallible_a when_o the_o mean_n that_o depend_v upon_o the_o authority_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o his_o apostle_n prove_v whatsoever_o be_v to_o be_v believe_v without_o suppose_v any_o such_o thing_n when_o revelation_n independent_a upon_o their_o authority_n there_o be_v acknowledge_v to_o be_v none_o aver_v infallibility_n in_o the_o sentence_n of_o the_o church_n deny_v the_o only_a principle_n that_o can_v infer_v it_o and_o therefore_o those_o that_o speak_v thing_n so_o inconsequent_a so_o inconsistent_a i_o shall_v not_o grant_v that_o they_o speak_v those_o thing_n which_o themselves_o think_v and_o believe_v but_o rather_o that_o like_o man_n upon_o the_o rack_n they_o speak_v thing_n which_o themselves_o may_v and_o in_o some_o sort_n do_v know_v not_o to_o be_v true_a for_o whosoever_o hold_v a_o opinion_n which_o he_o see_v a_o argument_n against_o that_o he_o can_v resolve_v be_v real_o and_o true_o upon_o the_o rack_n and_o of_o necessity_n seek_v to_o escape_v by_o contradict_v what_o himself_o confess_v otherwise_o which_o every_o man_n of_o necessity_n do_v who_o acknowledge_v the_o reason_n of_o believe_a christianity_n to_o lie_v in_o the_o authority_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o his_o apostle_n challenge_v nevertheless_o that_o infallability_n which_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o believe_v to_o all_o sentence_n of_o the_o church_n the_o matter_n of_o which_o sentence_n if_o it_o be_v true_a the_o reason_n of_o it_o must_v depend_v immediate_o upon_o the_o same_o authority_n upon_o which_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o church_n which_o sentence_v depend_v but_o the_o consequence_n of_o this_o assertion_n deserve_v further_a consideration_n because_o all_o that_o follow_v depend_v upon_o it_o suppose_v that_o the_o scripture_n prove_v themselves_o to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n by_o the_o reason_n of_o believe_v contain_v in_o they_o witness_v by_o the_o common_a sense_n of_o all_o christian_n for_o this_o admit_v no_o dispute_n if_o the_o same_o consent_n can_v evidence_n any_o thing_n belong_v to_o the_o matter_n of_o faith_n that_o will_v appear_v to_o oblige_v the_o faith_n of_o all_o christian_n upon_o the_o same_o reason_n as_o the_o scripture_n do_v whether_o contain_v in_o the_o scripture_n or_o not_o for_o who_o will_v undertake_v that_o god_n can_v not_o have_v preserve_v christianity_n without_o either_o scripture_n or_o new_a revelation_n and_o therefore_o he_o choose_v the_o way_n of_o writing_n not_o as_o of_o absolute_a necessity_n but_o as_o of_o incomparable_a advantage_n if_o therefore_o god_n may_v have_v oblige_v man_n to_o believe_v any_o thing_n not_o deliver_v by_o writing_n whether_o he_o have_v or_o not_o will_v remain_v questionable_a suppose_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n upon_o the_o ground_n aforesaid_a beside_o there_o be_v many_o thing_n so_o manifest_a in_o the_o scripture_n
