sect._n 1_o the_o entrance_n unto_o the_o work_n that_o time_n be_v now_o come_v which_o i_o appoint_v to_o spend_v with_o god_n in_o my_o closet_n i_o must_v religious_o observe_v my_o appointment_n for_o albeit_o the_o resolve_n be_v only_o private_a and_o never_o proceed_v without_o my_o own_o breast_n or_o closet_n yet_o have_v god_n take_v notice_n of_o it_o and_o it_o stand_v on_o record_n in_o his_o omniscience_n and_o by_o break_v these_o my_o private_a and_z as_o happy_o i_o may_v judge_v less_o material_a resolution_n i_o shall_v soon_o learn_v to_o break_v my_o word_n and_o vow_n too_o in_o other_o matter_n both_o with_o god_n and_o man_n come_v therefore_o at_o my_o time_n appoint_v into_o my_o closet_n i_o reverent_o kneel_v down_o before_o god_n and_o have_v the_o sense_n of_o his_o presence_n and_o all-seeing_a eye_n upon_o my_o heart_n humble_o begin_v in_o some_o such_o short_a prayer_n as_o be_v this_o which_o follow_v i_o be_o come_v o_o lord_n into_o thy_o presence_n upon_o work_n which_o no_o one_o have_v more_o need_n to_o do_v than_o myself_o to_o consider_v my_o way_n and_o repent_v of_o my_o sin_n and_o turn_v to_o thou_o but_o i_o have_v a_o hard_a heart_n not_o apt_a to_o relent_v and_o dry_a eye_n such_o at_o least_o which_o seldom_o shed_v tear_n for_o my_o sin_n o_o that_o thou_o will_v bow_v the_o heaven_n and_o come_v down_o and_o melt_v my_o soul_n that_o it_o may_v kind_o flow_v forth_o before_o thou_o in_o godly_a sorrow_n which_o may_v work_v repentance_n not_o to_o be_v repent_v of_o open_v my_o eye_n and_o help_v i_o to_o see_v into_o my_o heart_n b●ing_v my_o sin_n to_o my_o remembrance_n and_o set_v they_o in_o order_n before_o i_o that_o a_o holy_a shame_n and_o confusion_n may_v cover_v my_o face_n for_o they_o and_o thou_o behold_v my_o contrition_n may_v accept_v it_o and_o both_o pardon_v i_o and_o assist_v i_o hereafter_o by_o thy_o grace_n that_o i_o may_v live_v more_o godly_o righteous_o and_o sober_o in_o this_o present_a world_n and_o attain_v unto_o blessedness_n with_o thyself_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v through_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n jesus_n my_o lord_n and_o saviour_n amen_n sect._n 2._o of_o read_v so_o as_o to_o fit_v myself_o for_o self-examination_n some_o such_o supplication_n be_v with_o a●l_a my_o heart_n make_v unto_o god_n i_o may_v haply_o find_v it_o not_o to_o be_v always_o the_o best_a course_n forthwith_o to_o fall_v upon_o the_o examination_n of_o myself_o for_o for_o this_o i_o shall_v be_v the_o fit_a when_o awaken_v and_o make_v more_o attentive_a to_o myself_o by_o some_o other_o exercise_n it_o may_v be_v proper_a therefore_o to_o spend_v and_o hour_n in_o the_o read_n some_o honest_a practical_a book_n which_o treat_v several_o of_o those_o duty_n which_o we_o owe_v both_o to_o god_n other_o and_o ourselves_o to_o wit_n upon_o that_o particular_a book_n which_o know_v to_o be_v very_o good_a i_o have_v choose_v and_o single_v out_o to_o myself_o to_o read_v and_o practice_n such_o as_o be_v the_o never_o enough_o commend_v doctor_n hammond_n practical_a catechism_n or_o if_o that_o seem_v to_o any_o too_o difficult_a that_o excellent_a book_n the_o whole_a duty_n ●f_n man._n and_o in_o read_v hereof_o i_o must_v endeavour_v to_o read_v first_o with_o understanding_n so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o the_o repeat_n to_o myself_o the_o word_n as_o consider_v and_o digest_v the_o substance_n of_o they_o which_o i_o must_v account_v read_v of_o they_o i_o must_v therefore_o read_v and_o study_v the_o book_n as_o scholar_n do_v their_o book_n and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o material_a thing_n which_o i_o do_v not_o understand_v mark_v it_o so_o that_o i_o may_v inform_v myself_o by_o advise_v with_o some_o more_o able_a person_n than_o myself_o second_o i_o must_v read_v all_o with_o application_n to_o myself_o remember_v that_o all_o this_o concern_v i_o and_o endeavour_v to_o see_v how_o it_o concern_v i_o whether_o i_o perform_v the_o duty_n i_o read_v of_o as_o i_o shall_v or_o how_o i_o neglect_v it_o etc._n etc._n by_o this_o mean_n take_v upon_o every_o of_o my_o fast_a day_n a_o part_n my_o book_n will_v in_o convenient_a season_n be_v read_v over_o which_o when_o it_o be_v it_o must_v not_o be_v throw_v aside_o but_o read_v through_o again_o and_o again_o with_o the_o same_o diligence_n till_o i_o be_o perfect_a in_o it_o nor_o ought_v the_o three_o or_o four_o read_v of_o a_o good_a profitable_a and_o practical_a treatise_n to_o be_v tedious_a or_o unpleasant_a to_o i_o for_o that_o christian_a duty_n
