expression_n title_n name_n etc._n etc._n whereby_o he_o have_v manifest_v himself_o to_o we_o and_o wherein_o we_o conceive_v it_o be_v safe_a to_o rest_v and_o to_o bound_v all_o our_o curiosity_n within_o those_o for_o they_o must_v be_v the_o most_o solid_a notion_n of_o god_n which_o himself_o have_v catch_v thus_o exod._n 33_o and_o 34._o the_o lord_n do_v answer_v moses_n his_o desire_n of_o see_v his_o glory_n by_o show_v he_o his_o goodness_n in_o the_o proclaim_v of_o his_o attribute_n to_o he_o that_o be_v manifest_v in_o his_o word_n thereby_o teach_v man_n to_o conceive_v of_o god_n according_a as_o he_o have_v reveal_v himself_o in_o his_o word_n in_o the_o plain_a and_o comprehensive_a attribute_n that_o describe_v his_o nature_n wherein_o god_n goodness_n be_v sufficient_o hold_v forth_o to_o sinner_n which_o ought_v to_o be_v a_o sufficient_a manifestation_n of_o god_n to_o they_o here_o without_o dive_v immediate_o into_o his_o essence_n which_o can_v no_o otherways_o be_v manifest_v to_o moses_n than_o by_o that_o proclamation_n 2._o we_o will_v beware_v of_o form_v idea_n representation_n or_o shape_n of_o that_o one_o god_n and_o three_o person_n in_o the_o heart_n or_o in_o the_o head_n these_o can_v but_o be_v derogatory_n to_o he_o be_v a_o likeness_n to_o he_o of_o our_o own_o upsetting_a in_o our_o heart_n and_o can_v but_o diminish_v that_o authority_n which_o the_o true_a god_n shall_v have_v in_o our_o heart_n we_o will_v remember_v therefore_o that_o he_o be_v pure_o spiritual_a who_o no_o eye_n have_v see_v nor_o can_v see_v and_o therefore_o all_o such_o imagination_n be_v to_o be_v abandon_v and_o abhor_v 3._o we_o will_v beware_v of_o divide_v the_o object_n of_o worship_n or_o separate_v the_o three_o bless_a person_n in_o our_o worship_v of_o they_o even_o in_o our_o imagination_n as_o if_o when_o one_o be_v name_v we_o be_v not_o pray_v unto_o and_o worship_v both_o the_o other_o and_o as_o if_o same_o one_o god_n with_o the_o other_o two_o and_o therefore_o the_o object_n of_o worship_n be_v ever_o the_o same_o one_o god_n father_n son_n and_o spirit_n that_o be_v but_o one_o god_n we_o worship_v the_o father_n the_o son_n and_o the_o spirit_n but_o we_o do_v not_o worship_v the_o father_n or_o the_o son_n or_o the_o spirit_n as_o if_o he_o who_o be_v not_o name_v be_v less_o worship_v than_o he_o who_o be_v name_v and_o see_v the_o son_n and_o holy_a ghost_n be_v the_o same_o god_n with_o the_o father_n the_o former_a ground_n be_v lay_v it_o be_v all_o one_o thing_n what_o ever_o person_n be_v name_v though_o in_o scripture_n sometime_o respect_n be_v have_v to_o their_o order_n of_o subsist_v and_o operate_n and_o so_o the_o father_n be_v only_o name_v sometime_o to_o be_v the_o ground_n upon_o and_o by_o which_o we_o have_v access_n to_o god_n and_o so_o the_o son_n only_o be_v name_v now_o by_o what_o be_v say_v it_o do_v also_o appear_v that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n may_v be_v express_o pray_v unto_o as_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n although_o it_o be_v not_o so_o usual_a in_o scripture_n because_o of_o the_o reason_n former_o hint_v at_o for_o this_o will_v follow_v he_o that_o be_v god_n may_v be_v invocate_v etc._n etc._n and_o where_o petition_n do_v especial_o respect_v the_o increase_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n we_o will_v find_v he_o express_o mention_v with_o the_o father_n and_o son_n as_o here_o ver_fw-la 4._o and_o 5._o grace_n be_v unto_o you_o etc._n etc._n and_o 2_o cor._n 13.14_o the_o communion_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v subjoin_v as_o a_o distinct_a petition_n to_o the_o love_n of_o the_o father_n and_o grace_n of_o the_o son_n and_o these_o first_o two_o petition_n be_v direct_v to_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n this_o three_o must_v be_v to_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o like_a manner_n and_o therefore_o to_o plead_v against_o the_o godhead_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n upon_o this_o ground_n that_o he_o be_v not_o express_o pray_v unto_o in_o scripture_n be_v both_o inconsequent_a and_o false_a and_o the_o apostl_n take_v the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o be_v his_o witness_n rom._n 9_o can_v be_v do_v without_o invocate_a of_o he_o and_o the_o general_a command_n of_o glorify_v god_n must_v infer_v so_o much_o suppose_v the_o spirit_n to_o be_v god_n there_o be_v no_o weight_n therefore_o to_o be_v lay_v on_o that_o argument_n if_o it_o be_v object_v against_o the_o necessity_n of_o believe_v this_o doctrine_n of_o the_o trinity_n or_o against_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o tolerate_v what_o oppose_v the_o same_o that_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n do_v not_o discover_v it_o and_o that_o the_o godhead_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v sometime_o not_o so_o much_o as_o be_v hear_v of_o by_o disciple_n as_o in_o act._n 19_o therefore_o etc._n etc._n to_o the_o first_o we_o answer_v that_o now_o nature_n be_v corrupt_v it_o can_v be_v no_o good_a rule_n to_o try_v what_o be_v truth_n concern_v god_n by_o it_o it_o can_v hardly_o be_v deny_v if_o nature_n be_v consider_v as_o in_o adam_n at_o the_o beginning_n but_o to_o he_o there_o be_v clearness_n in_o this_o mystery_n there_o be_v express_a mention_n of_o the_o bless_a trinity_n in_o his_o creation_n as_o the_o word_n let_v we_o make_v man_n according_a to_o our_o image_n do_v the_o image_n of_o that_o one_o god_n who_o be_v father_n son_n and_o spirit_n but_o not_o to_o insist_v in_o this_o we_o say_v second_o that_o if_o by_o nature_n as_o it_o be_v now_o corrupt_v what_o be_v tolerable_a or_o intolerable_a in_o the_o matter_n of_o religion_n be_v to_o be_v try_v then_o be_v the_o whole_a doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o redemption_n through_o the_o mediator_n to_o be_v account_v no_o fundamental_a thing_n and_o consequent_o no_o error_n destroy_v it_o be_v to_o be_v restrain_v because_o nature_n have_v not_o discover_v that_o that_o therefore_o must_v be_v a_o unsafe_a rule_n to_o walk_v by_o and_o indeed_o if_o a_o master_n of_o a_o family_n and_o father_n who_o yet_o as_o such_o be_v to_o say_v so_o a_o servant_n of_o nature_n be_v not_o by_o that_o exempt_v from_o the_o obligation_n of_o bring_v up_o his_o child_n and_o servant_n in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n according_a to_o the_o gospel_n but_o be_v notwithstanding_o to_o exercise_v his_o authority_n in_o the_o restrain_v of_o every_o thing_n contrary_a thereunto_o according_a to_o his_o station_n can_v it_o be_v think_v that_o a_o magistrate_n who_o must_v count_v for_o his_o authority_n over_o a_o people_n as_o a_o master_n must_v do_v for_o his_o over_o a_o family_n be_v less_o oblige_v thereunto_o for_o christian_n be_v to_o be_v christian_n in_o their_o station_n as_o in_o their_o personal_a carriage_n and_o so_o to_o seek_v the_o promove_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o restrain_v of_o what_o may_v maâ—â—_n it_o according_a to_o their_o station_n three_o we_o answer_v that_o even_o this_o may_v be_v draw_v from_o the_o moral_a law_n of_o god_n wherein_o not_o only_o the_o true_a god_n be_v alone_o to_o be_v worship_v as_o in_o the_o first_o command_n but_o also_o according_o as_o he_o have_v prescribe_v and_o reveal_v in_o his_o word_n which_o be_v the_o sum_n of_o the_o second_o command_n now_o this_o be_v true_a that_o the_o lord_n have_v thus_o reveal_v himself_o to_o be_v worship_v according_a to_o the_o gospel_n it_o become_v no_o less_o necessary_a to_o worship_n god_n in_o that_o manner_n than_o to_o worship_n he_o who_o be_v the_o true_a god_n and_o so_o iâ—_n by_o the_o first_o command_n and_o according_a to_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n magistrate_n shall_v restrain_v and_o not_o suffer_v what_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o the_o worship_v of_o the_o one_o true_a and_o live_a god_n so_o be_v he_o by_o the_o second_o command_n and_o that_o same_o light_n of_o nature_n oblige_v to_o restrain_v all_o manner_n of_o doctrine_n and_o worship_n that_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o what_o he_o
be_v ready_a to_o soft_a such_o divide_v conception_n we_o conceive_v it_o be_v safe_a not_o to_o alter_v the_o denomination_n of_o the_o person_n in_o the_o same_o prayer_n especial_o where_o it_o be_v in_o the_o hear_n of_o other_o who_o possible_o may_v have_v such_o thought_n though_o we_o have_v none_o and_o i_o suppose_v this_o way_n be_v most_o ordinary_o take_v in_o scripture_n for_o answer_v to_o the_o second_o to_o wit_n how_o the_o mediator_n be_v the_o object_n of_o divine_a worship_n we_o shall_v first_o distinguish_v this_o title_n object_n than_o answer_n by_o divine_n there_o be_v in_o this_o case_n a_o threefold_a object_n acknowledge_v all_o agree_v to_o the_o mediator_n in_o some_o respect_n 1._o there_o be_v objectum_fw-la materiale_a or_o quod_fw-la that_o be_v the_o object_n or_o person_n to_o who_o worship_n be_v give_v 2._o there_o be_v objectum_fw-la formale_a or_o quo_fw-la that_o be_v the_o account_n upon_o which_o it_o be_v give_v to_o that_o person_n or_o object_n 3._o there_o be_v objectum_fw-la considerationis_fw-la that_o be_v the_o consideration_n that_o the_o worshipper_n have_v of_o that_o object_n in_o worship_v of_o he_o and_o be_v as_o a_o motive_n thereto_o or_o be_v as_o the_o learned_a voetius_fw-la call_v it_o specificatio_fw-la objecti_fw-la the_o specification_n of_o the_o object_n whereby_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o worshipper_n by_o take_v up_o the_o object_n worship_v under_o such_o a_o consideration_n be_v warm_v with_o love_n and_o thankfulness_n and_o strengthen_v in_o his_o confidence_n to_o worship_n that_o object_n thus_o the_o relation_n that_o god_n take_v on_o he_o to_o be_v the_o redeemer_n of_o his_o people_n from_o egypt_n and_o from_o the_o land_n of_o the_o north_n do_v give_v no_o new_a object_n of_o worship_n yet_o do_v they_o give_v some_o external_a denomination_n or_o specification_n of_o that_o object_n god_n to_o they_o the_o consideration_n whereof_o in_o their_o worship_v do_v much_o qualify_v the_o object_n to_o they_o so_o that_o with_o the_o more_o thankfulness_n and_o confidence_n they_o may_v approach_v to_o he_o and_o thus_o we_o distinguish_v between_o the_o object_n worship_v and_o the_o consideration_n which_o may_v be_v have_v of_o he_o in_o our_o worship_n and_o this_o do_v not_o make_v he_o adorable_a simple_o and_o in_o himself_o because_o he_o be_v so_o natural_o but_o it_o be_v the_o ground_n upon_o which_o he_o be_v accessible_a to_o we_o who_o be_v sinner_n and_o enemy_n from_o which_o we_o may_v lay_v down_o a_o threefold_a distinction_n 1._o betwixt_o the_o material_a and_o formal_a object_n of_o worship_n 2._o betwixt_o the_o object_n of_o the_o act_n of_o worship_n and_o of_o our_o consideration_n in_o worship_v 3._o betwixt_o that_o which_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o worship_n suppose_v prayer_n faith_n simple_o consider_v in_o itself_o and_o that_o which_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o our_o access_n consider_v in_o ourselves_o to_o pray_v unto_o or_o believe_v in_o that_o object_n to_o answer_v then_o the_o question_n we_o say_v 1._o that_o the_o mediator_n be_v the_o object_n of_o divine_a worship_n be_v fix_o to_o be_v acknowledge_v even_o the_o man_n christ_n be_v to_o be_v honour_v with_o divine_a worship_n pray_v unto_o etc._n etc._n as_o in_o scripture_n be_v clear_a thus_o the_o mediator_n be_v the_o material_a object_n of_o divine_a worship_n or_o the_o objectum_fw-la quod_fw-la for_o we_o worship_v and_o invocate_v he_o who_o be_v the_o mediator_n and_o there_o be_v no_o question_n of_o this_o 2._o christ_n consider_v as_o mediator_n and_o in_o the_o virtue_n of_o his_o mediation_n be_v the_o only_a ground_n upon_o which_o we_o have_v right_a to_o expect_v to_o be_v accept_v in_o any_o part_n of_o our_o worship_n or_o to_o have_v prayer_n grant_v which_o we_o put_v up_o to_o god_n under_o what_o ever_o designation_n or_o title_n for_o so_o he_o be_v the_o door_n and_o the_o way_n joh._n 10.9_o and_o 14.6_o and_o in_o this_o respect_n though_o he_o be_v not_o as_o such_o the_o formal_a object_n of_o divine_a worship_n yet_o he_o be_v the_o foundation_n whereupon_o it_o be_v now_o build_v the_o way_n by_o which_o it_o must_v be_v address_v to_o god_n and_o he_o be_v the_o high_a priest_n heb._n 7.25_o this_o be_v typify_v by_o the_o temple_n ark_n and_o high_a priest_n under_o the_o law_n for_o sinner_n have_v not_o access_n to_o god_n but_o by_o he_o and_o this_o strengthen_v faith_n to_o approach_v that_o god_n be_v manifest_v in_o our_o nature_n and_o that_o so_o we_o have_v by_o his_o suffering_n entry_n through_o the_o veil_n to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n which_o former_o without_o respect_n to_o this_o be_v shut_v 3._o our_o lord_n jesus_n who_o be_v god_n in_o our_o worship_v of_o he_o may_v be_v consider_v as_o mediator_n and_o upon_o that_o ground_n the_o heart_n may_v be_v embolden_v to_o approach_v unto_o god_n because_o he_o that_o be_v god_n be_v also_o man_n and_o mediator_n thus_o we_o praise_v and_o pray_v to_o he_o that_o die_v and_o consider_v he_o as_o once_o dead_a in_o our_o uptake_n of_o he_o yet_o so_o as_o it_o be_v because_o he_o be_v god_n for_o have_v it_o be_v possible_a that_o the_o mediator_n can_v not_o have_v be_v god_n there_o have_v not_o be_v ground_n for_o give_v of_o this_o worship_n unto_o he_o yet_o this_o consideration_n warm_v the_o heart_n with_o love_n to_o he_o and_o give_v confidence_n and_o chearfulnesse_n in_o pray_v to_o he_o or_o praise_v of_o he_o as_o in_o this_o same_o place_n and_o afterward_o cap._n 5._o because_o see_v we_o have_v a_o man_n to_o do_v with_o who_o have_v so_o experimental_o feel_v sinless_a infirmity_n of_o purpose_n to_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o a_o sympathy_n with_o his_o member_n and_o see_v he_o have_v still_o humane_a affection_n by_o have_v a_o glorify_a body_n still_o unite_v in_o one_o person_n with_o his_o divine_a nature_n which_o want_v not_o humane_a feel_n though_o in_o a_o inconceivable_a manner_n and_o see_v also_o that_o that_o be_v give_v in_o the_o word_n as_o a_o encouragement_n for_o we_o to_o step_v forward_o to_o expect_v grace_n and_o help_v in_o the_o time_n of_o need_n heb._n 2.18_o and_o 4.15_o 16._o and_o that_o even_o from_o he_o there_o be_v no_o question_n but_o by_o the_o actual_a consider_v of_o this_o a_o soul_n may_v and_o aught_o to_o strengthen_v itself_o in_o its_o approach_n unto_o god_n 4._o yet_o this_o divine_a worship_n be_v give_v to_o he_o as_o he_o be_v god_n and_o because_o he_o be_v god_n and_o so_o christ-god_n be_v the_o objectum_fw-la formale_a or_o quo_fw-la of_o this_o divine_a worship_n because_o it_o be_v the_o godhead_n that_o be_v the_o alone_a formal_a object_n of_o divine_a worship_n as_o be_v say_v and_o christ_n only_o as_o god_n have_v these_o essential_a attribute_n of_o omniscience_n supreme_a majesty_n adorabilitie_n etc._n etc._n which_o be_v requisite_a for_o the_o object_n of_o divine_a worship_n and_o therefore_o in_o this_o place_n although_o he_o be_v set_v out_o in_o what_o be_v peculiar_a to_o he_o as_o mediator_n yet_o his_o be_v reckon_v with_o the_o other_o two_o bless_a person_n do_v prove_v that_o notwithstanding_o thereof_o he_o be_v consider_v in_o his_o person_n as_o god_n it_o be_v then_o thus_o as_o we_o say_v christ-god_n die_v yet_o as_o man_n so_o the_o man_n christ_n be_v worship_v yet_o as_o god_n for_o though_o he_o be_v one_o person_n yet_o the_o property_n of_o the_o two_o nature_n be_v distinct_a hence_o as_o the_o father_n do_v prove_v christ_n godhead_n against_o the_o arrian_n from_o this_o that_o he_o be_v worship_v with_o divine_a worship_n and_o account_v they_o idolater_n for_o worship_v he_o thus_o who_o they_o do_v not_o esteem_v to_o be_v god_n so_o do_v the_o latter_a divine_n in_o reference_n to_o the_o socinian_o 5._o therefore_o this_o worship_n that_o be_v give_v to_o christ_n the_o mediator_n be_v of_o the_o same_o kind_n that_o be_v give_v to_o god_n to_o wit_n supreme_a divine_a worship_n for_o there_o be_v not_o two_o sort_n of_o divine_a worship_n and_o to_o give_v the_o mediator_n that_o which_o be_v give_v to_o god_n and_o so_o that_o it_o shall_v not_o follow_v from_o this_o that_o christ_n be_v worship_v therefore_o he_o be_v god_n equal_a with_o the_o father_n now_o the_o scripture_n give_v he_o that_o same_o worship_n and_o not_o any_o other_o even_o when_o it_o be_v deny_v to_o all_o creature_n yea_o when_o he_o be_v worship_v in_o the_o day_n of_o his_o flesh_n he_o be_v consider_v as_o the_o only_o beget_v of_o the_o father_n as_o lord_n and_o almighty_n have_v all_o creature_n as_o servant_n under_o he_o etc._n etc._n and_o yet_o he_o be_v style_v the_o son_n of_o david_n he_o that_o be_v to_o come_v &c_n &c_n even_o at_o that_o time_n to_o show_v that_o both_o consideration_n have_v place_n in_o worship_v of_o the_o same_o person_n who_o be_v god_n and_o also_o mediator_n and_o not_o to_o bring_v in_o a_o new_a worship_n for_o none_o can_v be_v more_o glorious_a than_o what_o be_v due_a to_o god_n but_o to_o lay_v a_o new_a ground_n of_o have_v access_n to_o give_v he_o the_o worship_n which_o be_v due_a and_o by_o a_o new_a relation_n to_o give_v a_o kindly_a qualification_n of_o the_o object_n whereby_o the_o heart_n may_v be_v provoke_v love_o and_o thankful_o to_o give_v the_o same_o 6._o when_o this_o worship_n be_v give_v to_o he_o it_o be_v give_v to_o the_o person_n who_o be_v mediator_n and_o that_o in_o one_o individual_a act_n for_o he_o as_o god_n be_v not_o worship_v one_o way_n and_o as_o man_n a_o other_o way_n nor_o be_v there_o a_o division_n of_o his_o nature_n to_o be_v conceive_v but_o the_o person_n who_o
