our_o happiness_n 4._o that_o in_o themselves_o they_o be_v plain_a and_o simple_a and_o direct_v and_o have_v no_o intricacy_n or_o labyrinth_n in_o they_o 5._o that_o they_o be_v all_o so_o inseparable_o connect_v to_o one_o another_o that_o they_o mutual_o promote_v and_o help_v forward_o each_o other_o 1._o that_o whatsoever_o they_o enjoin_v have_v some_o natural_a good_a inseparable_o appendent_a to_o it_o to_o sweeten_v and_o endear_v it_o the_o great_a and_o wise_a first-mover_n have_v so_o order_v thing_n in_o the_o course_n of_o motion_n which_o he_o have_v establish_v that_o such_o and_o such_o action_n shall_v be_v ordinary_o attend_v with_o such_o and_o such_o effect_n and_o consequent_n and_o this_o be_v one_o great_a way_n by_o which_o he_o have_v signify_v to_o the_o world_n his_o dislike_n or_o approbation_n of_o humane_a action_n by_o the_o effect_n and_o consequent_n which_o he_o have_v chain_v and_o annex_v to_o they_o if_o in_o the_o course_n of_o thing_n which_o he_o have_v establish_v such_o a_o action_n be_v ordinary_o attend_v with_o a_o good_a effect_n he_o thereby_o signify_v his_o approbation_n of_o it_o and_o declare_v that_o it_o be_v his_o will_n and_o pleasure_n that_o we_o shall_v do_v and_o persevere_v in_o do_v it_o but_o if_o the_o consequent_n which_o in_o the_o course_n of_o nature_n be_v ordinary_o link_v to_o such_o a_o action_n be_v evil_a and_o hurtful_a he_o thereby_o declare_v his_o dislike_n and_o abhorrence_n of_o it_o and_o that_o it_o be_v his_o will_n and_o pleasure_n that_o we_o shall_v careful_o and_o constant_o avoid_v it_o for_o the_o great_a author_n of_o our_o being_n have_v so_o frame_v our_o nature_n and_o place_v we_o in_o such_o circumstance_n and_o relation_n that_o there_o be_v nothing_o vicious_a but_o be_v also_o injurious_a to_o we_o nothing_o virtuous_a but_o be_v advantageous_a and_o in_o this_o the_o good_a and_o evil_a of_o all_o humane_a virtue_n and_o vice_n do_v consist_v and_o it_o be_v pure_o for_o this_o reason_n why_o he_o forbid_v the_o one_o and_o command_v the_o other_o because_o he_o be_v our_o friend_n and_o will_v not_o have_v we_o neglect_v any_o thing_n that_o tend_v to_o our_o good_a nor_o do_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v hurtful_a and_o injurious_a to_o we_o and_o because_o he_o know_v that_o while_n we_o be_v thus_o frame_v and_o do_v continue_v in_o these_o circumstance_n and_o relation_n it_o be_v impossible_a but_o virtue_n shall_v be_v a_o advantage_n and_o vice_n a_o mischief_n to_o our_o nature_n and_o indeed_o the_o great_a sanction_n of_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o that_o natural_a good_a and_o evil_a which_o be_v ordinary_o consequent_a to_o the_o action_n which_o it_o command_v and_o forbid_v for_o when_o god_n have_v no_o otherwise_o reveal_v himself_o to_o the_o world_n than_o only_o by_o the_o establish_a course_n and_o nature_n of_o thing_n that_o be_v the_o only_a bible_n necessary_a to_o they_o and_o indeed_o the_o moral_a good_a and_o evil_a of_o all_o action_n be_v final_o to_o be_v resolve_v into_o the_o natural_a good_a and_o evil_a that_o be_v appendent_a to_o they_o for_o therefore_o our_o action_n be_v moral_o good_a because_o they_o be_v natural_o beneficial_a to_o we_o and_o therefore_o be_v they_o moral_o evil_a because_o they_o be_v natural_o prejudicial_a and_o hurtful_a and_o those_o that_o be_v neither_o of_o these_o be_v indifferent_a action_n and_o stand_v in_o the_o middle_n between_o good_a and_o evil._n and_o indeed_o this_o distinction_n of_o action_n by_o their_o effect_n and_o consequent_n be_v in_o most_o particular_n so_o plain_a and_o sensible_a that_o all_o the_o world_n have_v take_v notice_n of_o it_o for_o whereas_o all_o good_a action_n have_v a_o apparent_a tendency_n either_o to_o the_o public_a good_a wherein_o our_o own_o private_a be_v involve_v or_o to_o our_o own_o animal_n and_o sensitive_a good_a our_o quiet_n and_o health_n and_o reputation_n and_o prosperity_n or_o to_o the_o perfection_n of_o our_o rational_a nature_n and_o the_o sovereign_a pleasure_n and_o happiness_n of_o our_o mind_n all_o bad_a action_n tend_v direct_o contrary_a either_o to_o the_o damage_n and_o ruin_n of_o the_o publick-weal_n or_o to_o the_o hurt_a and_o prejudice_n of_o our_o animal_n and_o sensitive_a felicity_n to_o the_o disease_a of_o our_o body_n the_o stain_v our_o name_n or_o the_o impoverish_n our_o estate_n or_o to_o the_o deface_a and_o blemish_v the_o beauty_n of_o our_o rational_a nature_n and_o the_o interruption_n and_o disturbance_n of_o all_o the_o pleasure_n and_o felicity_n of_o our_o mind_n and_o this_o distinction_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a action_n be_v so_o immutable_o fix_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o thing_n that_o it_o can_v never_o be_v obliterated_a until_o god_n whole_o alter_v the_o course_n of_o his_o creation_n and_o impress_n quite_o contrary_a law_n of_o motion_n on_o it_o for_o so_o long_o as_o we_o continue_v what_o we_o be_v in_o the_o same_o nature_n and_o circumstance_n and_o relation_n to_o god_n and_o one_o another_o righteousness_n and_o godliness_n humility_n and_o universal_a love_n must_v necessary_o be_v good_a for_o we_o and_o their_o contrary_n bad_a and_o destructive_a to_o our_o happiness_n now_o this_o wise_a and_o excellent_a constitution_n of_o thing_n do_v very_o much_o tend_v to_o the_o facilitate_v of_o virtue_n and_o goodness_n to_o we_o for_o when_o thing_n be_v so_o constitute_v that_o it_o be_v become_v our_o interest_n as_o well_o as_o our_o duty_n to_o pursue_v virtue_n and_o eschew_v vice_n when_o that_o which_o distinguish_v our_o duty_n from_o our_o sin_n be_v the_o good_a that_o it_o do_v we_o and_o the_o apparent_a tendency_n it_o have_v to_o our_o happiness_n this_o if_o we_o love_v ourselves_o must_v needs_o very_o much_o endear_v and_o recommend_v it_o to_o we_o for_o now_o we_o serve_v ourselves_o in_o serve_v our_o maker_n the_o substance_n of_o all_o who_o injunction_n be_v no_o more_o than_o this_o that_o we_o shall_v pursue_v our_o own_o happiness_n by_o do_v all_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v necessary_a thereunto_o i_o confess_v have_v he_o make_v those_o action_n which_o be_v our_o sin_n to_o be_v our_o duty_n we_o have_v then_o some_o reason_n to_o complain_v for_o than_o we_o shall_v have_v be_v bind_v in_o pure_a obedience_n to_o god_n to_o damnify_v ourselves_o and_o like_o the_o wretched_a priest_n of_o baal_n to_o cut_v and_o slash_v our_o own_o body_n to_o when_o we_o know_v so_o little_a of_o the_o future_a state_n to_o which_o all_o its_o transaction_n do_v chief_o relate_v wherefore_o let_v we_o forbear_v a_o while_n till_o we_o come_v into_o the_o other_o world_n and_o understand_v the_o whole_a design_n and_o contrivance_n and_o then_o we_o shall_v see_v that_o all_o will_v be_v right_a and_o well_o yea_o and_o infinite_o better_a than_o and_o then_o i_o be_o sure_a we_o shall_v see_v cause_n enough_o forever_o to_o admire_v his_o skill_n and_o adore_v his_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n and_o thus_o you_o see_v by_o apparent_a instance_n how_o good_a god_n be_v in_o his_o providence_n towards_o we_o and_o how_o unreasonable_a it_o be_v for_o we_o to_o censure_v his_o goodness_n notwithstanding_o all_o those_o seem_a evil_n that_o happen_v in_o the_o world_n and_o now_o what_o remain_v but_o that_o with_o all_o humility_n and_o cheerfulness_n we_o resign_v up_o ourselves_o into_o the_o hand_n of_o our_o most_o merciful_a father_n conclude_v as_o most_o certain_o we_o may_v that_o whatsoever_o he_o do_v with_o we_o or_o howsoever_o he_o dispose_v of_o we_o it_o will_v be_v all_o for_o our_o good_a in_o the_o late_a end_n if_o it_o be_v not_o through_o our_o own_o default_n for_o where_o can_v we_o be_v safe_a than_o in_o the_o hand_n of_o a_o omnipotent_a and_o omniscient_a goodness_n a_o goodness_n that_o know_v what_o be_v best_a for_o we_o and_o will_n what_o it_o know_v to_o be_v so_o and_o do_v whatsoever_o it_o will_v sure_o in_o such_o hand_n our_o condition_n be_v a_o thousand_o time_n better_o and_o safe_a than_o if_o we_o have_v full_a power_n to_o effect_v our_o own_o wish_n and_o all_o the_o event_n that_o concern_v we_o be_v in_o our_o own_o disposal_n and_o if_o god_n shall_v shake_v we_o off_o from_o all_o dependence_n on_o he_o and_o resign_v up_o the_o whole_a conduct_n of_o our_o affair_n into_o our_o own_o hand_n if_o he_o shall_v say_v to_o we_o since_o you_o mislike_v of_o my_o conduct_n i_o will_v no_o more_o intermeddle_v with_o you_o or_o any_o thing_n that_o concern_v you_o take_v yourselves_o into_o your_o own_o disposal_n and_o manage_v all_o your_o concernment_n goodness_n of_o god_n that_o when_o he_o have_v imprint_v his_o law_n upon_o our_o nature_n in_o such_o legible_a character_n and_o give_v they_o such_o apparent_a sanction_n in_o the_o nature_n of_o thing_n have_v make_v such_o a_o sensible_a distinction_n between_o moral_a good_a and_o evil_a by_o those_o natural_a good_a and_o evil_a consequent_n which_o he_o have_v inseparable_o entail_v on_o they_o and_o when_o mankind_n by_o their_o wilful_a wickedness_n and_o inadvertency_n have_v almost_o obliterated_a the_o law_n of_o their_o nature_n and_o extinguish_v their_o natural_a sense_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a and_o immerse_v themselves_o in_o the_o most_o barbarous_a impiety_n and_o immorality_n notwithstanding_o all_o this_o that_o he_o have_v do_v for_o we_o and_o we_o against_o ourselves_o he_o shall_v still_o be_v so_o kind_a and_o compassionate_a as_o to_o put_v forth_o a_o new_a edition_n of_o his_o law_n and_o reveal_v his_o will_n anew_o to_o we_o in_o such_o a_o extraordinary_a manner_n that_o when_o he_o have_v implant_v a_o light_n in_o our_o nature_n that_o be_v sufficient_a to_o have_v direct_v we_o into_o the_o several_a path_n of_o our_o duty_n and_o we_o by_o our_o own_o neglect_n and_o abuse_v of_o it_o have_v almost_o extinguish_v this_o candle_n of_o the_o lord_n in_o we_o and_o consequent_o involve_v ourselves_o in_o midnight_n darkness_n and_o ignorance_n he_o shall_v then_o be_v so_o compassionate_a as_o to_o hang_v out_o a_o light_n from_o heaven_n to_o we_o to_o rectify_v our_o wander_n and_o guide_v our_o foot_n in_o the_o path_n we_o shall_v walk_v in_o be_v such_o a_o glorious_a expression_n of_o his_o goodness_n as_o for_o ever_o deserve_v our_o most_o thankful_a acknowledgement_n but_o then_o that_o he_o shall_v not_o only_o reveal_v to_o we_o what_o he_o have_v before_o imprint_v on_o our_o nature_n and_o we_o have_v most_o unworthy_o raze_v out_o and_o obliterated_a but_o also_o discover_v so_o much_o more_o to_o we_o than_o ever_o we_o do_v or_o can_v have_v know_v by_o the_o light_n of_o our_o nature_n that_o he_o shall_v not_o only_o repeat_v his_o former_a kindness_n to_o we_o which_o we_o have_v so_o shameful_o abuse_v but_o make_v such_o stupendous_a addition_n to_o it_o as_o he_o have_v do_v in_o the_o revelation_n of_o his_o gospel_n that_o manger_n all_o those_o impiety_n and_o provocation_n by_o which_o for_o so_o many_o age_n we_o have_v excite_v his_o patience_n he_o shall_v not_o only_o so_o love_v we_o as_o to_o restore_v to_o we_o the_o light_n which_o we_o have_v almost_o
