on_o the_o other_o side_n many_o and_o manifold_a be_v the_o correction_n of_o god_n he_o have_v rod_n and_o scourge_n of_o all_o kind_n gentle_a and_o sharp_a inward_a and_o soul_n chastisement_n outward_a and_o bodily_a correction_n god_n can_v smite_v in_o good_n name_n estate_n credit_n wife_n child_n friend_n liberty_n in_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v with_o they_o or_o near_o they_o or_o dear_a to_o they_o god_n know_v how_o to_o chasten_v they_o by_o take_v away_o or_o lessen_v their_o comfort_n also_o by_o put_v upon_o they_o thing_n grievous_a to_o their_o nature_n wherein_o god_n child_n through_o patience_n do_v show_v all_o good_a contentment_n at_o the_o lord_n deal_v with_o they_o though_o it_o be_v sometime_o very_o rough_a and_o severe_a yet_o they_o know_v and_o consider_v that_o it_o be_v well_o deserve_v patience_n they_o have_v make_v themselves_o very_o worthy_a to_o be_v well_o beat_v by_o their_o breach_n of_o god_n law_n and_o it_o be_v but_o good_a reason_n if_o they_o be_v so_o bold_a as_o to_o transgress_v and_o deserve_v chastisement_n that_o god_n shall_v take_v leave_n to_o use_v his_o authority_n therefore_o as_o they_o suffer_v with_o patience_n the_o father_n of_o their_o body_n when_o they_o correct_v they_o now_o much_o more_o they_o do_v submit_v themselves_o to_o he_o that_o be_v the_o father_n of_o spirit_n especial_o when_o they_o mark_v his_o manner_n of_o proceed_v in_o his_o chastisement_n and_o the_o chief_a end_n that_o he_o aim_v at_o in_o they_o seek_v therein_o their_o profit_n not_o his_o own_o praise_n or_o pleasure_n as_o bodily_a parent_n often_o do_v for_o touch_v his_o proceed_n albeit_o man_n suffer_v eth_z not_o but_o for_o his_o own_o sin_n lament_v 3._o 〈◊〉_d be_v correct_v but_o for_o his_o fault_n yet_o god_n do_v not_o draw_v out_o his_o rod_n for_o every_o offence_n than_o there_o be_v none_o able_a offence_n to_o abide_v it_o for_o we_o offend_v so_o often_o and_o so_o much_o that_o it_o will_v quick_o consume_v we_o if_o we_o shall_v feel_v his_o hand_n for_o every_o trespass_n but_o as_o earthly_a father_n wink_v at_o sundry_a and_o many_o thing_n amiss_o in_o their_o child_n so_o it_o please_v god_n to_o use_v connivance_n and_o favour_n towards_o our_o daily_a infirmity_n and_o small_a fault_n which_o accompany_v the_o frailty_n of_o our_o nature_n therefore_o it_o be_v say_v of_o he_o that_o he_o be_v slow_a to_o anger_n patient_a and_o full_a of_o compassion_n and_o goodness_n psal._n 103._o indeed_o when_o the_o godly_a do_v forget_v themselves_o and_o fall_v into_o some_o foul_a and_o gross_a sin_n especial_o whereby_o they_o give_v offence_n by_o their_o example_n provoke_v other_o to_o sin_n or_o when_o in_o lesser_a fault_n they_o grow_v too_o stubborn_a and_o wax_v secure_a or_o when_o they_o lift_v up_o their_o heart_n and_o become_v proud_a and_o high_o mind_v 〈◊〉_d common_o he_o take_v the_o rod_n in_o hand_n be_v loath_a to_o fall_v when_o god_n have_v suffer_v his_o child_n long_o for_o he_o have_v rather_o they_o shall_v judge_v themselves_o than_o he_o shall_v judge_v they_o desire_v their_o conversion_n by_o his_o bounty_n and_o kindness_n rather_o than_o their_o amendment_n by_o correction_n so_o sweet_a and_o love_a be_v his_o nature_n so_o loath_a to_o strike_v yet_o he_o strike_v not_o till_o he_o have_v give_v good_a warning_n either_o by_o admonition_n of_o his_o prophet_n and_o servant_n or_o motion_n of_o his_o own_o spirit_n and_o often_o check_n of_o our_o own_o conscience_n call_v upon_o we_o to_o reform_v our_o life_n as_o it_o be_v write_v in_o amos_n 3._o 7._o sure_o the_o lord_n will_v do_v nothing_o but_o he_o will_v reveal_v it_o to_o his_o prophet_n after_o these_o warning_n by_o his_o
