now_o it_o be_v time_n to_o bring_v forth_o out_o of_o the_o treasure_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o that_o may_v stay_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n that_o be_v such_o a_o commit_v against_o a_o inferior_a person_n have_v its_o addition_n of_o extent_n and_o heinousness_n according_a to_o the_o person_n of_o the_o prince_n offend_v now_o sin_n be_v commit_v against_o a_o infinite_a majesty_n against_o a_o infinite_a god_n and_o so_o have_v a_o more_o deepness_n of_o tincture_n and_o filthiness_n in_o proportion_n to_o the_o injury_n do_v to_o such_o a_o majesty_n know_v the_o difference_n in_o slander_n slander_v a_o poor_a man_n and_o it_o may_v be_v the_o action_n will_v not_o hear_v above_o ten_o pound_n for_o it_o but_o slander_v a_o rich_a merchant_n who_o credit_n go_v far_o there_o man_n lay_v a_o action_n of_o a_o thousand_o pound_n for_o the_o slander_n of_o such_o a_o man_n in_o regard_n of_o his_o degree_n the_o richman_n be_v great_a than_o other_o and_o his_o credit_n be_v of_o great_a value_n the_o offence_n in_o take_v away_o his_o credit_n be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o heinous_a and_o high_a now_o by_o how_o much_o god_n be_v great_a than_o man_n by_o so_o much_o be_v the_o heinousness_n of_o transgression_n commit_v against_o god_n beyond_o all_o other_o transgression_n whatsoever_o now_o belove_v that_o righteousness_n that_o that_o god_n do_v communicate_v more_o than_o this_o that_o he_o give_v value_n to_o the_o humane_a righteousness_n and_o how_o he_o do_v communicate_v it_o be_v a_o secret_a we_o know_v not_o but_o this_o we_o be_v sure_a of_o we_o be_v make_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o that_o righteousness_n of_o god_n be_v the_o
righteousness_n by_o which_o we_o come_v to_o have_v our_o discharge_n from_o sin_n the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o in_o the_o 2._o chap._n of_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o collos_n in_o he_o speak_v of_o christ_n dwelâ—_n the_o fullness_n of_o the_o god_n head_n bodily_a and_o we_o be_v complete_a in_o he_o say_v the_o text_n the_o fullness_n of_o the_o godhead_n dwell_v in_o christ_n and_o we_o be_v complete_a in_o that_o fullness_n of_o he_o our_o completeness_n consist_v in_o and_o spring_n from_o the_o fullness_n of_o the_o godhead_n in_o christ_n as_o from_o its_o fountain_n there_o be_v certain_o something_o in_o it_o worth_a our_o observation_n that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n shall_v take_v notice_n of_o a_o fullness_n of_o the_o godhead_n in_o christ_n before_o he_o speak_v of_o a_o completeness_n which_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n sure_o it_o do_v import_v that_o christ_n do_v communicate_v something_o that_o be_v god_n own_o unto_o we_o and_o yet_o this_o will_v not_o import_v any_o essential_a thing_n that_o be_v wrought_v in_o our_o person_n as_o if_o christ_n do_v substantial_o change_v our_o nature_n into_o god_n nature_n or_o god_n into_o we_o which_o be_v a_o gross_a absurdity_n but_o this_o there_o be_v there_o be_v a_o communication_n of_o a_o infinite_a value_n and_o virtue_n to_o the_o active_a and_o passive_a obedience_n of_o christ_n for_o the_o righteousness_n that_o become_v we_o by_o which_o we_o stand_v complete_a with_o god_n it_o must_v have_v so_o much_o value_n as_o i_o say_v as_o may_v stand_v in_o proportion_n to_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n now_o if_o there_o be_v but_o a_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n humane_a nature_n consist_v in_o his_o active_a conformity_n to_o the_o law_n and_o suffer_v for_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n and_o we_o to_o stand_v in_o this_o righteousness_n this_o righteousness_n will_v not_o make_v we_o complete_a for_o mark_v he_o that_o be_v complete_a by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n that_o righteousness_n must_v serve_v for_o every_o purpose_n whatsoever_o if_o there_o shall_v be_v some_o defect_n which_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n as_o it_o be_v act_v by_o he_o in_o his_o human_a nature_n do_v not_o make_v up_o in_o respect_n of_o such_o defect_n we_o can_v not_o be_v complete_a by_o it_o although_o that_o even_o as_o it_o be_v humane_a it_o be_v absolute_o complete_a in_o his_o kind_n and_o without_o defect_n this_o righteousness_n of_o a_o man_n do_v consist_v in_o a_o conformity_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n reveal_v and_o that_o in_o all_o relation_n whatsoever_o and_o in_o all_o action_n of_o those_o relation_n suppose_v a_o magistrate_n beside_o his_o common_a duty_n he_o be_v to_o perform_v as_o he_o 〈◊〉_d man_n or_o a_o christian_a must_v perform_v the_o 〈…〉_o his_o public_a relation_n he_o must_v do_v justice_n in_o judgement_n and_o the_o like_a now_o 〈◊〉_d he_o shall_v be_v exact_a in_o all_o the_o common_a 〈◊〉_d as_o he_o be_v a_o christian_n and_o shall_v still_o fail_v in_o 〈◊〉_d duty_n oâ—_n this_o public_a relation_n he_o be_v not_o complete_o righteous_a because_o there_o be_v a_o want_n of_o a_o magâ—â—â—rares_n righteousness_n now_o what_o be_v it_o that_o make_v this_o man_n complete_a in_o christ_n it_o must_v be_v the_o fiâ—â—ing_n up_o that_o which_o be_v empty_a in_o he_o there_o must_v be_v that_o find_v in_o christ_n righteousness_n that_o may_v fill_v up_o this_o defect_n or_o else_o there_o can_v be_v completeness_n in_o this_o person_n so_o likewise_o if_o a_o father_n or_o a_o mother_n do_v faâ—l_a in_o the_o duty_n of_o their_o relation_n they_o must_v go_v to_o christ_n for_o a_o righteousness_n to_o supply_v this_o and_o all_o other_o defect_n now_o where_o will_v you_o find_v it_o in_o christ_n he_o never_o be_v a_o father_n nor_o a_o mother_n christ_n do_v never_o perform_v these_o several_a office_n requisite_a to_o the_o several_a relation_n christ_n never_o bring_v up_o child_n christ_n be_v never_o a_o magistrate_n when_o a_o father_n fail_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o relation_n where_o can_v he_o find_v out_o a_o righteousness_n fit_a for_o he_o to_o make_v it_o up_o in_o christ_n now_o therefore_o the_o divine_a nature_n either_o must_v add_v some_o eminency_n of_o worth_n that_o must_v serve_v in_o the_o stead_n thereof_o unto_o that_o the_o humane_a righteousness_n of_o christ_n which_o his_o active_a and_o passive_a obedience_n as_o humane_a do_v not_o particular_o effect_v or_o else_o there_o can_v be_v a_o complete_a righteousness_n give_v by_o christ_n unto_o this_o person_n and_o therefore_o whereas_o it_o be_v object_v against_o the_o active_a obedience_n of_o christ_n for_o as_o much_o as_o it_o do_v not_o serve_v for_o we_o inregard_n it_o be_v not_o every_o way_n answerable_a unto_o the_o unrighteousness_n do_v by_o man_n therefore_o there_o must_v come_v a_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n in_o stead_n of_o that_o righteousness_n i_o say_v the_o remedy_n be_v worse_a than_o the_o disease_n and_o my_o ground_n be_v this_o iâ—_n christ_n active_a obedience_n through_o non-performance_n of_o some_o particular_n require_v of_o we_o be_v not_o a_o complete_a righteousness_n for_o every_o circumstance_n require_v much_o less_o faith_n wherein_o as_o act_v by_o we_o there_o be_v both_o omission_n of_o good_a and_o commission_n of_o evil_n which_o simple_o be_v sin_n whereas_o the_o active_a obedience_n of_o christ_n can_v not_o be_v charge_v with_o the_o least_o sin_n in_o any_o kind_n i_o say_v much_o less_o can_v faith_n fill_v up_o this_o emptiness_n be_v itself_o sinful_a see_v the_o active_a obedience_n of_o christ_n be_v free_a from_o the_o least_o spot_n of_o sin_n only_o through_o not-performance_n of_o these_o several_a duty_n of_o these_o several_a relation_n and_o be_v but_o a_o create_a righteousness_n can_v not_o fill_v it_o up_o and_o therefore_o i_o collect_v from_o hence_o rather_o that_o a_o supply_n here_o be_v from_o the_o dignity_n of_o the_o god_n head_n which_o can_v not_o be_v in_o the_o active_a and_o passive_a obedience_n of_o christ_n and_o this_o shall_v be_v in_o the_o stead_n of_o every_o particular_a circumstance_n which_o ought_v to_o have_v be_v in_o the_o perfect_a accomplishment_n thereof_o so_o that_o though_o we_o fail_v in_o our_o relation_n as_o of_o father_n and_o mother_n and_o magistrate_n and_o the_o active_a obedience_n of_o christ_n have_v not_o these_o particular_n in_o it_o yet_o this_o be_v supply_v by_o the_o eminency_n of_o worth_n of_o the_o person_n be_v god_n himself_o and_o it_o can_v possible_o be_v any_o otherwise_o supply_v but_o by_o the_o give_v such_o infinite_a value_n and_o virtue_n to_o that_o which_o christ_n do_v that_o though_o christ_n do_v not_o every_o particular_a circumstance_n which_o be_v want_v in_o we_o yet_o notwithstanding_o it_o do_v amount_v in_o value_n to_o all_o particular_n which_o we_o shall_v have_v do_v now_o it_o remain_v that_o we_o shall_v only_o consider_v wherein_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o plea_n of_o that_o righteousness_n do_v consist_v we_o have_v consider_v what_o that_o righteousness_n be_v namely_o the_o active_a and_o passive_a obedience_n of_o christ_n make_v of_o infinite_a value_n by_o a_o supply_n of_o worth_n from_o the_o there_o must_v be_v believe_v before_o there_o be_v union_n with_o or_o interest_n in_o christ_n it_o must_v necessary_o follow_v that_o till_o such_o believe_a the_o person_n of_o that_o elect_a do_v that_o man_n have_v no_o interest_n in_o christ_n till_o actual_o they_o do_v believe_v in_o he_o than_o it_o must_v follow_v that_o these_o person_n till_o they_o be_v actual_o believer_n be_v under_o the_o hatred_n of_o god_n for_o if_o they_o bear_v their_o own_o transgression_n themselves_o than_o god_n be_v a_o jealous_a god_n his_o holy_a and_o pure_a nature_n everlasting_o hate_v iniquity_n and_o also_o the_o person_n upon_o who_o iniquity_n be_v charge_v there_o must_v be_v a_o hatred_n of_o god_n upon_o these_o person_n till_o they_o do_v believe_v and_o to_o conceive_v that_o god_n do_v hate_v these_o person_n be_v to_o conceive_v that_o god_n may_v love_v and_o hate_v the_o same_o person_n whereas_o he_o say_v in_o the_o 19_o chap._n to_o the_o roman_n concern_v jacob_n that_o be_v yet_o unborn_a jacob_n have_v i_o love_v here_o you_o see_v love_n be_v communicate_v to_o jacob_n be_v yet_o unborn_a now_o mark_v jacob_n when_o he_o be_v not_o yet_o bear_v be_v not_o a_o actual_a believer_n till_o after_o time_n jacob_n be_v not_o come_v to_o believe_v well_o have_v jacob_n no_o interest_n in_o christ_n and_o the_o love_n of_o god_n till_o such_o time_n as_o he_o do_v believe_v yea_o be_v have_v so_o say_v the_o text._n i_o but_o yet_o jacob_n must_v be_v hate_v till_o he_o do_v believe_v because_o jacob_n till_o he_o do_v believe_v must_v bear_v his_o for_o christ_n it_o have_v nothing_o to_o do_v with_o he_o for_o he_o have_v nothing_o in_o regard_n of_o communicate_v his_o grace_n &_o spirit_n to_o do_v with_o they_o but_o they_o be_v bevever_n and_o their_o believe_v be_v that_o which_o knit_v the_o knot_n between_o christ_n and_o they_o whence_o come_v this_o believe_v where_o be_v the_o root_n of_o it_o be_v christ_n the_o root_n then_o have_v they_o first_o union_n with_o christ_n that_o they_o may_v receive_v it_o from_o he_o then_o must_v they_o first_o be_v unite_v unto_o christ_n and_o make_v one_o with_o he_o and_o live_v in_o he_o and_o by_o virtue_n of_o union_n with_o he_o receive_v this_o faith_n as_o a_o fruit_n of_o that_o union_n if_o it_o proceed_v from_o some_o other_o root_n i_o beseech_v you_o consider_v how_o it_o can_v be_v and_o how_o can_v this_o be_v avoid_v but_o that_o this_o conceit_n must_v needs_o be_v exceed_v derogatory_n to_o christ_n to_o make_v another_o foundation_n beside_o christ_n whereas_o in_o heb._n 12._o it_o be_v express_o say_v there_o christ_n be_v the_o author_n as_o well_o as_o the_o finisher_n of_o faith_n belove_a upon_o these_o consideration_n for_o my_o own_o
