learn_v of_o god_n in_o his_o prescribe_a way_n that_o be_v 1._o in_o his_o church_n which_o be_v his_o school_n 2._o and_o in_o and_o by_o his_o holy_a scripture_n which_o be_v the_o book_n he_o set_v we_o to_o learn_v and_o 3._o by_o his_o minister_n who_o he_o command_v to_o teach_v we_o 4._o and_o in_o obedience_n to_o his_o spirit_n that_o must_v make_v all_o effectual_a and_o 5._o in_o and_o so_o he_o proceed_v in_o order_n and_o take_v the_o lesson_n which_o god_n and_o his_o teacher_n set_v he_o and_o take_v up_o truth_n as_o they_o lie_v in_o order_n of_o necessity_n and_o use_n 8._o and_o in_o the_o manner_n also_o the_o difference_n be_v great_a the_o carnal_a student_n search_v presumptuous_o self-conceited_o and_o unreverent_o and_o speak_v of_o holy_a thing_n according_o and_o censure_v they_o when_o he_o shall_v censure_v himself_o and_o action_n by_o they_o and_o bend_v the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o his_o own_o carnal_a interest_n and_o will_n but_o the_o spiritual_a student_n search_v meek_o with_o fear_n and_o reverence_n with_o self-suspition_n and_o consciousness_n of_o his_o exceed_a darkness_n and_o with_o a_o willingness_n and_o resolution_n to_o submit_v to_o the_o light_n for_o conviction_n and_o for_o the_o guidance_n of_o his_o conversation_n and_o now_o you_o see_v what_o carnal_a study_n be_v remember_v that_o to_o avoid_v they_o be_v part_n of_o your_o self-denial_n restrain_v your_o range_a fantasy_n &_o understanding_n as_o you_o will_v do_v a_o range_a appetite_n if_o you_o have_v a_o mind_n that_o will_v fain_o reach_v high_a than_o god_n have_v give_v you_o light_n in_o scripture_n or_o a_o mind_n that_o must_v needs_o be_v satisfy_v of_o the_o reason_n of_o all_o god_n way_n and_o murmure_v if_o any_o of_o its_o doubt_n be_v unresolved_a remember_v that_o this_o be_v self_n that_o must_v be_v deny_v and_o if_o any_o be_v wise_a in_o his_o own_o eye_n he_o must_v become_v a_o fool_n that_o he_o may_v be_v wise_a 1_o cor._n 3._o 18._o and_o as_o little_a child_n must_v you_o come_v to_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n if_o you_o will_v indeed_o be_v his_o disciple_n and_o remember_v that_o this_o intellectual_a may_v cheat_v and_o undo_v your_o soul_n in_o a_o civil_a course_n of_o carnal_a selfish_a study_n as_o well_o as_o in_o a_o course_n of_o more_o gross_a and_o sensual_a uâ—luptuonsness_n chap._n xxxiii_o factious_a desire_n of_o the_o success_n of_o our_o own_o opinion_n and_o party_n as_o such_o etc._n etc._n 16._o another_o selfish_a interest_n to_o be_v deny_v be_v the_o factious_a desire_n of_o the_o success_n of_o any_o odd_a opinion_n which_o we_o have_v espouse_v and_o of_o the_o increase_n and_o prosperity_n of_o any_o divide_v party_n in_o the_o church_n which_o we_o have_v addict_v ourselves_o unto_o it_o exceed_o delight_v a_o carnal_a mind_n that_o his_o judgement_n shall_v be_v admire_v and_o he_o shall_v be_v take_v as_o the_o light_n of_o the_o country_n round_o about_o he_o and_o therefore_o when_o he_o have_v hatch_v any_o opinion_n of_o his_o own_o or_o espouse_v any_o whereby_o his_o singularity_n may_v be_v manifest_v or_o by_o which_o his_o selfish_a interest_n may_v be_v promote_v he_o be_v as_o careful_a to_o promote_v these_o opinion_n and_o the_o party_n that_o hold_v with_o he_o as_o a_o covetous_a man_n be_v to_o promote_v his_o gain_n there_o be_v indeed_o as_o much_o of_o self_n in_o many_o man_n
against_o nature_n to_o consent_v to_o die_v but_o when_o it_o be_v for_o he_o that_o be_v the_o lord_n and_o end_n of_o life_n it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o nature_n that_o be_v though_o it_o be_v against_o our_o natural_a inclination_n as_o we_o be_v animate_v and_o sensitive_a yet_o be_v it_o agreeable_a to_o our_o true_a nature_n as_o reasonable_a and_o therefore_o lie_v all_o together_o &_o it_o be_v to_o be_v say_v to_o be_v agreeable_a to_o nature_n simple_o in_o such_o a_o case_n because_o it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o principal_a part_n in_o nature_n which_o shall_v be_v 1._o though_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n and_o other_o natural_a and_o sensitive_a appetite_n or_o passion_n be_v not_o in_o your_o power_n yet_o a_o consent_n of_o the_o will_v to_o deny_v these_o be_v in_o your_o power_n as_o natural_a as_o it_o be_v to_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n your_o superior_a faculty_n of_o reason_n can_v prevail_v with_o you_o to_o suffer_v hunger_n and_o thirst_n in_o a_o siege_n or_o sickness_n when_o the_o suffering_n of_o it_o will_v save_v your_o life_n you_o will_v be_v rule_v by_o your_o physician_n to_o forbear_v not_o only_o many_o a_o dish_n but_o many_o a_o cut_n off_o a_o member_n when_o it_o be_v to_o save_v your_o life_n for_o all_o that_o feel_n and_o self-love_n be_v natural_a to_o you_o and_o you_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o the_o nature_n of_o friendship_n if_o you_o will_v not_o suffer_v much_o for_o a_o friend_n nor_o with_o humane_a affection_n if_o you_o will_v not_o suffer_v much_o for_o parent_n or_o child_n or_o your_o country_n so_o that_o your_o will_n be_v free_a though_o your_o sense_n be_v not_o free_a nor_o your_o natural_a appetite_n though_o you_o can_v choose_v but_o feel_v when_o you_o be_v hurt_v you_o may_v consent_v to_o that_o feel_n for_o a_o great_a good_a 2._o and_o according_a to_o the_o tenor_n of_o this_o objection_n you_o may_v as_o wise_o and_o honest_o plead_v for_o most_o of_o the_o wickedness_n of_o the_o world_n and_o say_v it_o be_v natural_a to_o i_o to_o lust_n and_o therefore_o i_o may_v play_v the_o adulterer_n and_o fulfil_v it_o it_o be_v natural_a to_o i_o to_o desire_v meat_n and_o drink_n and_o therefore_o i_o may_v eat_v and_o drink_v as_o long_o as_o i_o desire_v it_o it_o be_v natural_a to_o i_o to_o seek_v to_o hurt_v those_o that_o i_o be_o much_o angry_a with_o or_o hate_v and_o therefore_o i_o may_v beat_v or_o kill_v they_o if_o you_o must_v deny_v the_o passion_n and_o sensitive_a appetite_n and_o the_o inferior_a faculty_n of_o nature_n in_o one_o thing_n why_o not_o in_o another_o these_o low_a power_n be_v make_v to_o be_v rule_v by_o reason_n as_o beast_n be_v make_v to_o be_v rule_v by_o man_n and_o more_o and_o therefore_o see_v this_o argument_n from_o nature_n be_v but_o from_o the_o brutish_a part_n of_o nature_n it_o be_v but_o a_o brutish_a argument_n and_o if_o yet_o you_o say_v that_o for_o all_o these_o word_n death_n be_v so_o great_a a_o enemy_n to_o you_o that_o you_o can_v choose_v it_o i_o answer_v that_o be_v because_o your_o reason_n be_v not_o illuminate_v and_o elevate_v by_o faith_n to_o see_v the_o necessity_n of_o choose_v it_o and_o to_o see_v those_o high_a and_o better_a thing_n which_o by_o this_o mean_v you_o may_v obtain_v have_v you_o that_o heavenly_a life_n of_o faith_n and_o love_n which_o the_o spirit_n work_v in_o the_o saint_n it_o will_v carry_v you_o above_o this_o present_a life_n and_o take_v you_o up_o with_o high_a matter_n and_o show_v you_o that_o and_o so_o show_v it_o you_o as_o shall_v procure_v your_o own_o consent_n to_o die_v but_o because_o this_o be_v the_o great_a point_n that_o christ_n do_v purposely_o here_o try_v our_o self-denial_n by_o and_o a_o point_n of_o such_o great_a necessity_n to_o be_v look_v after_o i_o shall_v stay_v a_o little_a long_o on_o it_o while_o i_o give_v you_o first_o some_o reason_n to_o move_v you_o and_o 2._o some_o direction_n to_o assist_v you_o to_o get_v a_o self-denying_a submission_n to_o death_n when_o christ_n require_v it_o the_o many_o lamentable_a defect_n in_o grace_n which_o the_o inordinate_a fear_n of_o death_n do_v intimate_v i_o have_v already_o open_v in_o the_o four_o part_n of_o the_o saint_n rest_v and_o therefore_o may_v not_o now_o repeat_v they_o but_o shall_v add_v some_o few_o
