that_o our_o imagination_n will_v not_o say_v so_o for_o contrary_o we_o surmise_v that_o nothing_o be_v better_a than_o to_o be_v spare_v and_o bear_v withal_o but_o certain_o although_o we_o know_v have_v bear_v with_o we_o already_o â–ª_o and_o that_o he_o may_v of_o right_o use_v great_a rigour_n towards_o we_o and_o if_o he_o hear_v we_o not_o it_o be_v because_o our_o sin_n have_v separate_v he_o from_o we_o and_o we_o be_v unworthy_a to_o be_v hear_v but_o be_v forget_v at_o his_o hand_n by_o reason_n of_o our_o sin_n according_a as_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o wicked_a shall_v gain_v nothing_o when_o they_o think_v too_o have_v their_o recourse_n unto_o he_o as_o in_o very_a deed_n they_o go_v not_o too_o he_o unseyned_o and_o as_o for_o the_o good_a if_o god_n hear_v they_o it_o be_v not_o out_o of_o hand_n or_o at_o leastwise_o he_o suffer_v they_o not_o to_o perceive_v it_o because_o it_o be_v good_a that_o they_o shall_v be_v meekn_v after_o the_o set_n forth_o of_o this_o article_n that_o it_o be_v not_o lawful_a for_o man_n to_o justify_v themselves_o before_o god_n now_o in_o general_n it_o be_v say_v that_o we_o labour_v in_o vain_a if_o we_o go_v about_o to_o seek_v out_o his_o wisdom_n why_o so_o for_o it_o overreach_v the_o heaven_n it_o be_v deep_a tâ—an_n the_o bottomless_a pit_n and_o the_o wideness_n of_o it_o stretch_v through_o all_o let_v we_o have_v a_o eye_n to_o our_o own_o measure_n behold_v how_o man_n who_o will_v overreach_v the_o whole_a earth_n need_v no_o more_o than_o six_o foot_n too_o cover_v he_o man_n be_v desirous_a to_o enclose_v the_o whole_a sea_n in_o his_o imagination_n and_o in_o the_o mean_a while_o he_o himself_o be_v nothing_o he_o will_v fain_o surmount_v the_o heaven_n and_o how_o shall_v he_o come_v thither_o he_o will_v gage_v the_o bottom_n of_o the_o depth_n and_o what_o mean_n have_v he_o to_o do_v it_o withal_o nevertheless_o let_v we_o put_v the_o case_n that_o man_n mind_n be_v able_a to_o sty_n above_o the_o heaven_n â–ª_o and_o that_o nothing_o can_v be_v hide_v from_o it_o yet_o shall_v we_o come_v short_a of_o god_n wisdom_n because_o it_o be_v infinite_a â–ª_o it_o can_v be_v compare_v either_o with_o the_o deep_n or_o with_o the_o heaven_n for_o it_o far_o overpass_v they_o all_o and_o therefore_o let_v we_o assure_v ourselves_o that_o our_o presumption_n be_v foolish_a when_o we_o go_v about_o to_o know_v the_o reason_n of_o god_n do_n thus_o you_o see_v in_o effect_n what_o be_v show_v to_o we_o here_o wherefore_o let_v we_o mark_v that_o this_o word_n wisdom_n be_v take_v here_o for_o god_n purpose_n determination_n or_o intent_n which_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o comprehend_v true_a it_o be_v that_o we_o may_v well_o taste_v some_o little_a portion_n of_o god_n wisdom_n like_a as_o when_o we_o behold_v his_o creature_n there_o he_o show_v himself_o unto_o we_o howbeit_o but_o partly_o let_v we_o no_o more_o but_o take_v a_o branch_n of_o some_o herb_n and_o we_o shall_v see_v after_o what_o sort_n and_o with_o what_o cunning_a god_n have_v wrought_v there_o the_o same_o be_v a_o very_a lookingglasse_n of_o his_o wisdom_n then_o be_v it_o much_o more_o reason_n that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o his_o great_a and_o choice_a work_n we_o shall_v there_o perceive_v that_o god_n wisdom_n be_v a_o wonderful_a thing_n if_o we_o have_v any_o taste_n at_o all_o of_o it_o but_o by_o the_o way_n the_o perfectness_n thereof_o be_v speak_v of_o here_o that_o be_v to_o wit_n that_o if_o we_o will_v needs_o know_v why_o god_n do_v all_o thing_n or_o if_o a_o man_n be_v desirous_a to_o see_v what_o end_n god_n set_v afore_o himself_o and_o what_o cause_n move_v he_o thereunto_o we_o must_v needs_o be_v utter_o confound_v but_o here_o first_o of_o all_o we_o be_v admonish_v of_o the_o rawness_n of_o our_o wit_n and_o understanding_n to_o the_o intent_n we_o pass_v not_o our_o bound_n nor_o play_v not_o the_o horse_n that_o be_v break_v loose_a as_o we_o see_v that_o the_o overween_a and_o pride_n of_o our_o nature_n drive_v we_o thereunto_o but_o hereby_o we_o have_v also_o to_o consider_v the_o goodness_n of_o our_o god_n who_o apply_v himself_o unto_o we_o and_o too_o our_o feebleness_n that_o we_o at_o leastwise_o taste_v of_o that_o which_o be_v incomprehensible_a unto_o we_o and_o although_o we_o conceive_v it_o not_o thorough_o ne_o taste_v it_o full_o yet_o he_o show_v it_o to_o we_o and_o make_v we_o to_o feel_v it_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o be_v for_o our_o profit_n thus_o see_v you_o two_o article_n which_o be_v well_o worthy_a to_o be_v mark_v as_o touch_v the_o first_o i_o have_v tell_v you_o how_o it_o behove_v man_n to_o consider_v how_o raw_a and_o how_o weak_a of_o understanding_n they_o be_v that_o they_o presume_v not_o to_o thrust_v themselves_o too_o far_o forward_o too_o make_v inquisition_n of_o god_n work_v more_o than_o he_o will_v they_o and_o give_v they_o leave_v to_o do_v i_o say_v more_o than_o he_o will_v they_o and_o give_v they_o leave_v to_o do_v â–ª_o for_o as_o i_o have_v touch_v already_o god_n of_o his_o goodness_n do_v not_o utter_o bar_v we_o from_o have_v any_o perceiverance_n at_o all_o of_o his_o wisdom_n but_o it_o behove_v we_o to_o keep_v measure_n then_o let_v we_o be_v well_o advise_v that_o every_o of_o we_o have_v a_o eye_n to_o his_o own_o hability_n and_o too_o mark_v how_o subtle_a and_o sharp_a witted_a we_o be_v and_o how_o great_o give_v too_o this_o overboldenesse_n whereunto_o our_o own_o nature_n egg_v we_o continual_o how_o be_v that_o we_o will_v always_o bring_v god_n to_o account_v of_o all_o his_o do_n when_o we_o meet_v with_o any_o strange_a thing_n and_o man_n say_v unto_o we_o such_o be_v god_n good_a pleasure_n because_o he_o have_v ordain_v so_o and_o therefore_o we_o must_v not_o plead_v against_o he_o yea_o say_v we_o but_o why_o do_v he_o not_o otherwise_o for_o such_o a_o inconvenience_n will_v ensue_v they_o shake_v off_o all_o fear_n and_o bear_v themselves_o in_o hand_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o endure_v he_o any_o more_o to_o be_v their_o judge_n â–ª_o and_o to_o be_v short_a that_o they_o ought_v not_o to_o owe_v god_n so_o much_o duty_n as_o to_o come_v to_o account_v before_o he_o and_o therewithal_o they_o become_v the_o bold_a too_o give_v themselves_o over_o to_o all_o naughtiness_n as_o though_o it_o be_v lawful_a to_o do_v what_o they_o listen_v and_o eliphas_n give_v the_o title_n of_o almighty_a unto_o god_n purposely_o according_a to_o the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o place_n not_o that_o god_n can_v at_o any_o time_n be_v overcome_v but_o eliphas_n intend_v here_o to_o scorn_v the_o pridefulnesse_n of_o the_o wicked_a in_o strengthen_v themselves_o after_o that_o manner_n against_o god_n and_o who_o be_v he_o what_o meene_z you_o he_o be_v the_o almighty_a yea_o and_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o your_o strength_n if_o you_o have_v to_o encounter_v with_o creature_n it_o wouldstand_v you_o in_o hand_n to_o know_v which_o of_o they_o be_v strong_a but_o sith_o you_o make_v war_n with_o god_n must_v you_o not_o needs_o be_v overthrow_v ere_o you_o come_v to_o hand_n stroke_n there_o be_v no_o strength_n but_o of_o he_o yea_o and_o whereas_o you_o have_v borrow_v it_o of_o he_o will_v you_o come_v to_o turn_v it_o against_o he_o think_v you_o that_o he_o will_v suffer_v the_o strength_n which_o he_o have_v give_v you_o to_o diminish_v any_o whit_n of_o his_o majesty_n must_v it_o not_o needs_o serve_v he_o to_o confound_v you_o withal_o stir_v one_o finger_n too_o poll_v other_o man_n of_o their_o good_n or_o to_o trouble_v one_o and_o too_o devour_v another_o behold_v god_n be_v as_o it_o be_v challenge_v by_o we_o to_o make_v war_n with_o we_o because_o we_o have_v go_v about_o evil_n towards_o they_o who_o he_o have_v take_v unto_o his_o tuition_n we_o see_v that_o when_o earthly_a prince_n have_v give_v their_o protection_n to_o any_o house_n if_o a_o man_n do_v they_o any_o wrong_n it_o be_v not_o simple_a felony_n but_o high_a treason_n whereof_o they_o will_v be_v avenge_v and_o do_v we_o imagine_v that_o god_n will_v be_v less_o privilege_v than_o prince_n he_o have_v set_v his_o badge_n upon_o all_o poor_a folk_n by_o take_v they_o into_o his_o own_o charge_n and_o protection_n now_o if_o any_o man_n come_v too_o torment_v they_o and_o afflict_v they_o will_v he_o suffer_v it_o then_o as_o i_o say_v let_v we_o learn_v to_o bridle_v ourselves_o to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o use_v no_o outrage_n against_o our_o neighbour_n and_o further_o more_o also_o let_v we_o keep_v ourselves_o from_o this_o frenzy_n that_o be_v speak_v of_o here_o for_o we_o be_v not_o well_o in_o our_o wit_n if_o we_o take_v ourselves_o too_o be_v mighty_a and_o strong_a before_o god_n therefore_o let_v we_o advise_o walk_v in_o modesty_n and_o acknowledge_v the_o frailty_n of_o our_o nature_n let_v we_o humble_v ourselves_o and_o let_v the_o same_o serve_v to_o hold_v we_o within_o our_o bound_n and_o know_v that_o thing_n which_o god_n permit_v we_o too_o know_v let_v we_o be_v content_v too_o walk_v plain_o on_o our_o way_n without_o run_v over_o the_o field_n like_o stray_n cattle_n for_o what_o else_o be_v that_o but_o too_o strengthen_v ourselves_o against_o god_n when_o we_o presume_v to_o do_v that_o which_o god_n have_v forbid_v we_o shall_v we_o esteem_v it_o too_o be_v but_o a_o single_a disobedience_n be_v it_o not_o more_o than_o a_o devilish_a furiousness_n so_o then_o let_v we_o uncace_n ourselves_o out_o of_o all_o pride_n and_o presumption_n and_o simple_o follow_v that_o which_o god_n show_v we_o and_o if_o we_o be_v tempt_v now_o and_o then_o with_o the_o say_v vain_a fancy_n let_v we_o mark_v well_o this_o word_n almighty_a too_o bridle_v we_o withal_o say_n how_o now_o wretched_a creature_n what_o will_v thou_o do_v whereupon_o muze_v thou_o for_o thou_o strengthene_v thyself_o in_o thine_o evil_n and_o behold_v god_n tell_v thou_o that_o he_o will_v lift_v up_o himself_o against_o thou_o and_o thou_o must_v be_v fain_o too_o feel_v he_o thy_o foe_n by_o any_o mean_n escape_v for_o it_o be_v say_v that_o a_o man_n be_v hold_v by_o the_o neck_n when_o he_o be_v shut_v up_o in_o extremity_n and_o distress_n god_n therefore_o show_v that_o he_o will_v deal_v after_o the_o same_o fashion_n with_o wicked_a folk_n and_o that_o he_o will_v not_o handle_v they_o with_o stroke_n of_o cudgel_n nor_o only_o give_v they_o a_o blow_n or_o twain_o but_o seize_v upon_o their_o neck_n to_o choke_v they_o and_o good_a reason_n it_o be_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v so_o for_o we_o see_v how_o cruel_a they_o have_v be_v to_o their_o neighbour_n and_o that_o they_o have_v hold_v their_o foot_n upon_o their_o throat_n as_o much_o as_o they_o can_v god_n therefore_o must_v not_o use_v gentle_a correction_n towards_o they_o but_o his_o assail_a of_o they_o must_v be_v with_o extremity_n to_o their_o confusion_n and_o forasmuch_o as_o the_o wicked_a do_v trust_v in_o their_o armour_n and_o artillery_n because_o they_o be_v well_o furnish_v and_o forasmuch_o as_o they_o will_v needs_o bar_v god_n from_o come_v at_o they_o it_o be_v say_v purposely_o that_o he_o will_v nip_n they_o through_o the_o thick_a of_o their_o armour_n and_o that_o all_o their_o resistance_n and_o fortify_v of_o themselves_o against_o god_n shall_v not_o boot_n they_o a_o whit_n against_o his_o force_n they_o shall_v have_v both_o corslet_n and_o shield_n and_o their_o bone_n full_a of_o naughtiness_n within_o and_o be_v soak_a or_o steep_v in_o it_o and_o they_o delight_v themselves_o in_o it_o and_o we_o see_v also_o that_o when_o the_o devil_n poison_v man_n it_o be_v not_o by_o sting_v they_o light_o but_o by_o shed_v his_o venom_n into_o the_o bottom_n of_o their_o heart_n so_o as_o their_o wit_n and_o understanding_n may_v conceive_v nothing_o but_o evil_a lo_o how_o god_n punish_v such_o as_o have_v despise_v he_o and_o give_v themselves_o over_o to_o evil_a so_o as_o they_o do_v daily_o appare_v and_o wax_v ever_o worse_a and_o worse_a matter_n that_o be_v discourse_v not_o long_o afore_o that_o be_v to_o wit_n that_o when_o the_o wicked_a have_v their_o own_o wish_n and_o be_v in_o their_o chief_a jollity_n so_o as_o they_o seem_v to_o be_v the_o happy_a man_n in_o the_o whole_a world_n it_o be_v all_o one_o as_o if_o their_o bone_n have_v be_v full_a in_o their_o youth_n that_o be_v to_o say_v as_o if_o god_n have_v first_o give_v they_o all_o that_o they_o can_v wish_v and_o afterward_o make_v they_o to_o lay_v themselves_o down_o to_o sleep_v and_o with_o who_o even_o every_o man_n by_o himself_o alone_o that_o be_v to_o say_v with_o no_o more_o but_o only_o his_o bare_a carcase_n for_o god_n uncase_v they_o and_o when_o they_o be_v strip_v stark_o naked_a he_o send_v they_o to_o their_o grave_n hereby_o we_o be_v admonish_v that_o when_o we_o see_v the_o wicked_a man_n have_v meat_n and_o drink_v their_o fill_n yea_o even_o till_o they_o burst_v so_o as_o their_o riches_n flow_v unto_o they_o more_o that_o our_o lord_n have_v tell_v we_o that_o it_o must_v be_v so_o it_o be_v good_a reason_n that_o we_o shall_v pass_v over_o such_o stumbling-blocke_n and_o not_o be_v shake_v by_o they_o but_o let_v we_o mark_v well_o their_o end_n which_o sophar_n show_v here_o how_o that_o every_o one_o of_o they_o must_v go_v lie_v down_o alone_o by_o himself_o in_o his_o grave_n then_o see_v it_o be_v so_o let_v we_o tarry_v till_o our_o lord_n uncase_v the_o wicked_a and_o then_o we_o shall_v have_v no_o more_o cause_n to_o envy_v they_o nor_o to_o overshoot_v ourselves_o with_o they_o if_o it_o these_o thing_n he_o speak_v also_o of_o the_o child_n of_o the_o wicked_a which_o thing_n i_o have_v forget_v sophar_n therefore_o among_o those_o other_o thing_n say_v that_o wicked_a folk_n child_n shall_v flatter_v the_o poor_a and_o their_o hand_n shall_v restore_v the_o riches_n that_o they_o bid_v possess_v hereby_o he_o do_v we_o to_o understand_v that_o god_n will_v utter_v his_o vengeance_n and_o make_v it_o to_o be_v feel_v not_o only_o in_o the_o person_n of_o those_o who_o he_o speak_v of_o but_o also_o in_o their_o child_n according_a also_o as_o the_o scripture_n say_v that_o god_n will_v make_v the_o iniquity_n of_o the_o father_n to_o come_v home_o into_o the_o bosom_n of_o their_o child_n it_o may_v seem_v at_o the_o first_o blush_v that_o this_o agree_v not_o in_o he_o he_o kill_v he_o only_o he_o change_v the_o kind_n of_o death_n and_o it_o be_v asmuch_o as_n if_o a_o man_n be_v in_o danger_n to_o be_v hang_v by_o his_o own_o hand_n and_o i_o will_v untie_v the_o rope_n for_o he_o but_o in_o stead_n of_o that_o i_o will_v cut_v his_o throat_n so_o then_o when_o a_o poor_a man_n shall_v have_v nothing_o to_o eat_v and_o shall_v be_v constrain_v to_o give_v away_o his_o bed_n to_o get_v meat_n this_o be_v too_o villainous_a a_o cruelty_n and_o such_o as_o can_v by_o no_o mean_n be_v excuse_v and_o therefore_o our_o lord_n say_v in_o his_o law_n take_v heed_n that_o the_o pledge_n of_o the_o poor_a man_n remain_v not_o with_o thou_o all_o night_n when_o thou_o see_v that_o the_o same_o serve_v he_o to_o his_o necessary_a use_n and_o that_o he_o can_v be_v without_o it_o but_o he_o must_v sustain_v harm_n by_o it_o restore_v it_o he_o again_o and_o if_o thou_o let_v the_o poor_a man_n have_v his_o bed_n again_o &_o relieve_v his_o necessity_n his_o side_n shall_v bliss_n thou_o and_o if_o thou_o have_v restore_v unto_o he_o his_o garment_n so_o that_o he_o be_v not_o a_o cold_a his_o body_n shall_v bliss_n thou_o contrariwise_o man_n needs_o be_v become_v terrible_a monster_n and_o devil_n incarnate_a when_o they_o labour_v so_o to_o abolish_v god_n glory_n and_o to_o quench_v the_o light_n even_o the_o light_n that_o be_v we_o see_v that_o god_n wisdom_n be_v so_o infinite_a as_o it_o can_v never_o be_v thorough_o comprehend_v so_o long_o as_o man_n live_v in_o this_o world_n it_o be_v enough_o that_o they_o have_v some_o taste_n of_o it_o and_o profit_v daily_o more_o &_o more_o in_o it_o on_o the_o other_o side_n let_v we_o mark_v well_o that_o when_o we_o have_v learn_v any_o thing_n we_o keep_v it_o ill_o man_n of_o understanding_n be_v counsel_v here_o to_o harken_v and_o give_v ear_n and_o thereby_o as_o i_o say_v all_o loftiness_n must_v be_v lay_v down_o and_o we_o must_v intend_v to_o be_v teach_v of_o god_n and_o so_o much_o the_o more_o must_v we_o follow_v the_o rule_n that_o be_v give_v we_o here_o because_o we_o see_v that_o the_o world_n find_v no_o taste_n

nature_n be_v in_o god_n hand_n and_o that_o the_o air_n be_v not_o govern_v by_o itself_o nor_o the_o rain_n come_v at_o the_o appointment_n of_o the_o sun_n how_o then_o for_o we_o see_v contrary_a effect_n behold_v water_n drown_v man_n and_o sweep_v they_o quite_o away_o and_o again_o it_o maintain_v they_o you_o see_v here_o two_o contrary_a woorking_n nourishment_n on_o the_o one_o side_n and_o waste_v on_o the_o other_o so_o as_o god_n destroy_v and_o overwhelm_v all_o â–ª_o both_o these_o twain_o we_o see_v and_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n thereof_o but_o that_o god_n overrule_v thing_n from_o above_o so_o then_o let_v we_o learn_v too_o magnify_v god_n in_o this_o that_o we_o see_v he_o apply_v his_o creature_n too_o such_o use_n as_o he_o think_v good_a furthermore_o when_o
