manifestation_n and_o declaration_n of_o the_o person_n that_o be_v humble_v and_o bring_v low_a to_o be_v god_n omnipotent_a omnipresent_v alsufficient_a infinite_o wise_a powerful_a just_a etc._n capable_a of_o by_o very_a many_o degree_n beyond_o any_o thing_n that_o the_o elect_n whether_o angel_n or_o man_n be_v capable_a of_o the_o personal_a union_n make_v he_o capable_a of_o far_o more_o glory_n and_o his_o excellent_a office_n call_v for_o it_o 3._o this_o exaltation_n consist_v in_o his_o absolute_a dominion_n and_o kingly_a power_n which_o be_v more_o observable_o direct_o and_o christ_n be_v furnish_v with_o qualification_n suitable_a to_o that_o glorious_a condition_n wherein_o he_o be_v invest_v and_o though_o these_o qualification_n of_o the_o man_n christ_n be_v not_o death_n and_o satisfaction_n it_o must_v be_v of_o equal_a extent_n therewith_o and_o must_v relate_v to_o the_o covenant_n of_o redemption_n wherein_o so_o many_o be_v give_v he_o to_o be_v redeem_v by_o his_o death_n 2._o other_o make_v his_o intercession_n too_o narrow_a in_o make_v it_o only_o for_o they_o that_o actual_o believe_v he_o also_o refut_v this_o opinion_n john_n 17.20_o by_o say_v because_o they_o be_v give_v so_o that_o it_o be_v for_o the_o elect_v convert_v or_o unconvert_v that_o he_o intercee_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o mark_v this_o be_v to_o overturn_v thereby_o two_o corrupt_a distinction_n that_o be_v make_v use_n of_o to_o bring_v in_o a_o universal_a intercession_n as_o well_o as_o a_o universal_a redemption_n 1._o some_o make_v his_o intercession_n common_a to_o all_o but_o we_o according_a to_o the_o scripture_n acknowledge_v no_o such_o intercession_n to_o belong_v to_o christ_n especial_o as_o mediator_n however_o he_o may_v as_o man_n under_o the_o neither_o be_v there_o two_o omnipotents_a but_o one_o omnipotent_a god_n and_o so_o in_o other_o attribut_n they_o be_v the_o same_o essential_a property_n of_o the_o godhead_n and_o incommunicable_a and_o therefore_o though_o the_o father_n be_v another_o person_n and_o as_o they_o use_v to_o speak_v alius_fw-la yet_o he_o be_v not_o another_o thing_n or_o aliud_fw-la but_o the_o same_o god_n and_o glory_n and_o make_v little_a account_n of_o any_o thing_n that_o want_v that_o as_o if_o he_o say_v it_o be_v no_o wonder_n that_o christ_n get_v few_o to_o believe_v on_o he_o and_o that_o few_o receive_v this_o gospel_n for_o he_o will_v not_o come_v with_o much_o worldly_a pomp_n and_o grandour_n which_o the_o man_n of_o the_o world_n great_o affect_v and_o be_v much_o take_v up_o with_o to_o open_v the_o word_n a_o little_a we_o shall_v first_o consider_v the_o matter_n of_o this_o reason_n and_o then_o the_o consequence_n of_o it_o or_o what_o influence_n it_o have_v on_o man_n offend_v at_o christ_n and_o continue_v in_o their_o unbelief_n only_o we_o shall_v premit_fw-la two_n or_o three_o word_n to_o both_o that_o which_o we_o premit_fw-la first_fw-mi be_v this_o the_o lord_n servant_n and_o it_o be_v say_v of_o he_o that_o he_o shall_v be_v exalt_v and_o extol_v and_o make_v very_o high_a and_o it_o be_v not_o unusual_a to_o speak_v of_o christ_n singular_o by_o a_o relative_a without_o a_o antecedent_n as_o cant._n 1.2_o let_v he_o kiss_v i_o with_o the_o kiss_n of_o his_o mouth_n because_o christ_n to_o believer_n be_v so_o singular_a a_o one_o that_o when_o ever_o he_o be_v speak_v of_o by_o way_n of_o eminency_n and_o excellency_n as_o here_o they_o can_v mistake_v he_o or_o take_v a_o other_o for_o he_o second_o this_o want_n of_o form_n and_o comeliness_n be_v not_o to_o be_v understand_v of_o any_o personal_a defect_n in_o our_o lord_n humane_a nature_n but_o in_o respect_n of_o and_o with_o reference_n to_o the_o tract_n of_o his_o life_n and_o what_o accompany_v his_o humiliation_n to_o wit_n that_o it_o be_v low_a and_o mean_a without_o that_o external_a grandour_n pomp_n and_o splendour_n of_o outward_a thing_n which_o the_o world_n esteem_v to_o be_v comeliness_n and_o beauty_n 3._o where_o it_o be_v say_v he_o shall_v grow_v up_o before_o he_o etc._n etc._n it_o relate_v to_o the_o hearer_n of_o the_o report_n of_o the_o gospel_n concern_v he_o or_o to_o the_o man_n that_o believe_v not_o the_o report_n speak_v of_o before_o and_o so_o relate_v to_o the_o word_n of_o the_o first_o vers_fw-la who_o have_v believe_v our_o report_n which_o be_v certain_o mean_v of_o the_o man_n that_o hear_v of_o he_o and_o to_o who_o he_o seem_v nothing_o worth_a because_o of_o his_o mean_a and_o low_o outward_a condition_n for_o if_o we_o shall_v apply_v it_o to_o god_n we_o can_v see_v how_o it_o will_v so_o well_o infer_v the_o scope_n and_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o unbelief_n assert_v former_o for_o which_o end_n it_o be_v bring_v in_o here_o we_o come_v now_o to_o open_v the_o word_n a_o little_a and_o here_o we_o will_v know_v that_o christ_n low_a condition_n be_v two_o way_n set_v down_o in_o these_o two_o verse_n 1._o in_o the_o 2._o vers_fw-la in_o respect_n of_o his_o want_n of_o the_o abundance_n of_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n 2._o in_o the_o 3._o vers_fw-la in_o respect_n of_o the_o accession_n of_o outward_a cross_n and_o affliction_n for_o not_o only_o do_v he_o want_v credit_n respect_n and_o esteem_v but_o he_o have_v contempt_n despite_n and_o reproach_n not_o only_o want_v he_o great_a riches_n but_o he_o have_v poverty_n and_o be_v in_o a_o poor_a and_o low_a condition_n the_o first_o vers_fw-la express_v he_o negative_o to_o be_v no_o worldly_a great_a man_n it_o be_v be_v like_o a_o scrab_n in_o a_o moor_n edge_n our_o lord_n have_v personal_a and_o much_o divine_a comeliness_n in_o he_o as_o we_o may_v see_v john_n 1.14_o where_o he_o say_v that_o the_o this_o account_n that_o not_o only_o there_o be_v a_o way_n of_o grace_n but_o such_o a_o way_n of_o grace_n find_v
and_o clear_v it_o it_o shall_v be_v say_v he_o that_o many_o shall_v be_v justify_v through_o faith_n in_o he_o for_o he_o shall_v bear_v their_o iniquity_n he_o shall_v take_v on_o and_o pay_v their_o debt_n and_o so_o as_o i_o say_v it_o be_v a_o reason_n confirm_v the_o former_a truth_n and_o show_v that_o it_o can_v be_v otherways_o but_o they_o must_v be_v absolve_v through_o faith_n in_o he_o because_o he_o bear_v the_o punishment_n due_a to_o they_o for_o their_o sin_n it_o serve_v also_o to_o clear_v how_o justification_n be_v attain_v by_o faith_n to_o wit_n not_o by_o any_o virtue_n or_o efficacy_n that_o be_v in_o faith_n abstract_o consider_v as_o if_o believe_v of_o itself_o do_v the_o turn_n but_o by_o virtue_n of_o christ_n bear_n their_o iniquity_n and_o make_v satisfaction_n for_o they_o which_o faith_n lay_v hold_v on_o so_o that_o when_o he_o say_v by_o his_o knowledge_n shall_v many_o be_v justify_v it_o be_v not_o by_o any_o efficacy_n attribute_v to_o their_o believe_v but_o by_o virtue_n of_o christ_n righteousness_n and_o satisfaction_n which_o only_a faith_n give_v a_o title_n to_o and_o be_v the_o midse_n and_o way_n by_o which_o a_o believer_n come_v to_o it_o and_o so_o as_o i_o have_v say_v it_o serve_v for_o explication_n of_o the_o former_a truth_n so_o that_o if_o the_o question_n be_v ask_v how_o can_v sinner_n be_v justify_v by_o can_v but_o be_v justify_v because_o christ_n have_v come_v and_o pay_v their_o debt_n according_a to_o his_o engagement_n these_o word_n as_o almost_o every_o other_o verse_n of_o this_o chapter_n contain_v the_o substance_n of_o the_o gospel_n take_v short_o five_o or_o six_o observation_n from_o they_o which_o we_o shall_v put_v together_o the_o 1._o be_v that_o the_o person_n who_o be_v to_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n in_o christ_n be_v natural_o lie_v in_o iniquity_n this_o be_v suppose_v while_o it_o be_v say_v that_o christ_n shall_v bear_v their_o iniquity_n â—ven_o the_o iniquity_n of_o they_o who_o be_v to_o be_v justify_v through_o faith_n in_o he_o so_o it_o be_v say_v before_o the_o lord_n have_v lay_v on_o he_o the_o iniquity_n of_o we_o all_o and_o we_o all_o like_a sheep_n have_v go_v astray_o these_o and_o many_o other_o scripture_n nay_o the_o whole_a current_n of_o the_o scripture_n confirm_v the_o point_n and_o put_v it_o beyond_o debate_n i_o observe_v it_o for_o these_o end_n and_o use_v which_o will_v show_v why_o it_o be_v so_o frequent_o mark_v 1._o that_o the_o freedom_n of_o god_n grace_n may_v kith_v the_o more_o in_o their_o justification_n they_o be_v sinner_n even_o as_o other_o be_v and_o it_o be_v grace_n that_o make_v the_o difference_n therefore_o their_o justification_n must_v be_v free_a if_o then_o any_o will_v have_v good_a or_o have_v get_v good_a by_o the_o gospel_n and_o by_o christ_n offer_v to_o they_o therein_o let_v they_o know_v that_o it_o be_v free_o 2._o that_o a_o believer_n who_o be_v justify_v shall_v be_v very_o humble_a for_o he_o be_v a_o sinner_n as_o well_o as_o other_o and_o be_v still_o a_o sinner_n in_o part_n therefore_o it_o become_v he_o to_o walk_v fort_o with_o a_o stop_a mouth_n and_o to_o be_v tender_a and_o compassionate_a towards_o other_o sinner_n there_o be_v not_o a_o believer_n but_o the_o weight_n of_o his_o iniquity_n will_v have_v bear_v he_o down_o to_o hâ—ll_v have_v not_o christ_n interpose_v and_o take_v they_o on_o he_o and_o therefore_o he_o ought_v to_o be_v both_o humble_a and_o thankful_a 3._o that_o sinner_n who_o have_v the_o offer_n of_o christ_n righteousness_n in_o the_o gospel_n may_v not_o despair_v how_o great_a soever_o their_o sin_n be_v indeed_o if_o they_o resolve_v to_o continue_v in_o sin_n or_o to_o sin_n that_o grace_n may_v comfort_n in_o or_o from_o his_o come_n the_o second_o observation_n be_v that_o wherever_o iniquity_n be_v it_o be_v a_o burden_n a_o heavy_a burden_n there_o be_v nothing_o more_o heavy_a than_o sin_n it_o be_v that_o which_o press_v the_o guilty_a person_n to_o the_o low_a hell_n it_o bring_v the_o fall_v angel_n out_o of_o heaven_n to_o the_o pit_n you_o may_v tâ—ke_v a_o instance_n or_o
