practice_n of_o all_o moral_a virtue_n which_o will_v effectual_o preserve_v the_o peace_n and_o happiness_n of_o humane_a society_n and_o advance_v the_o mind_n of_o man_n to_o a_o near_a approach_n to_o the_o perfection_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n every_o particular_a virtue_n be_v therefore_o such_o because_o it_o be_v a_o resemblance_n and_o imitation_n of_o some_o of_o the_o divine_a attribute_n so_o that_o moral_a virtue_n have_v the_o strong_a and_o most_o necessary_a influence_n upon_o the_o end_n of_o all_o religion_n viz._n man_n happiness_n it_o be_v not_o only_a its_o principle_n of_o all_o other_o resentment_n and_o expression_n of_o gratitude_n only_o those_o act_n of_o it_o that_o be_v terminate_v on_o god_n as_o their_o object_n be_v style_v religious_a and_o therefore_o gratitude_n and_o devotion_n be_v not_o divers_a thing_n but_o only_o different_a name_n of_o the_o same_o thing_n devotion_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o virtue_n of_o gratitude_n towards_o god_n the_o latter_a viz._n prayer_n be_v either_o put_v up_o in_o our_o own_o or_o other_o man_n behalf_n if_o for_o other_o it_o be_v a_o act_n of_o that_o virtue_n we_o call_v kindness_n or_o charity_n if_o for_o ourselves_o the_o thing_n we_o pray_v for_o unless_o they_o be_v the_o comfort_n and_o enjoyment_n of_o this_o life_n be_v some_o or_o other_o virtuous_a quality_n and_o therefore_o the_o proper_a and_o direct_a use_n of_o prayer_n be_v to_o be_v instrumental_a to_o the_o virtue_n of_o morality_n so_o that_o all_o duty_n of_o devotion_n except_v only_o our_o return_n of_o gratitude_n be_v not_o essential_a part_n of_o religion_n but_o be_v only_o in_o order_n to_o it_o as_o they_o tend_v to_o the_o practice_n of_o virtue_n and_o moral_a goodness_n and_o their_o of_o the_o savage_a american_n which_o in_o process_n of_o time_n grow_v up_o into_o large_a society_n from_o whence_o at_o length_n come_v the_o different_a nation_n and_o government_n of_o the_o
