they_o say_v that_o the_o necessity_n of_o these_o to_o salvation_n itself_o be_v by_o the_o gospel_n constitution_n or_o any_o enact_v connexion_n between_o duty_n and_o benefit_n thing_n be_v thus_o word_v it_o may_v pass_v with_o such_o who_o tell_v we_o the_o gospel_n have_v neither_o precept_n threaten_v nor_o conditional_a promise_n repentance_n be_v not_o antecedent_o necessary_a to_o pardon_n nor_o faith_n to_o the_o justification_n of_o our_o person_n but_o only_o to_o manifest_v to_o our_o conscience_n for_o our_o inward_a peace_n that_o our_o person_n be_v justify_v before_o god_n whilst_o in_o our_o unbelief_n but_o such_o thing_n be_v prevent_v by_o our_o paper_n which_o say_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n require_v repentance_n that_o our_o sin_n may_v be_v blot_v out_o and_o faith_n that_o we_o may_v be_v justify_v and_o afterward_o the_o gospel_n require_v of_o we_o as_o our_o duty_n that_o we_o repent_v and_o believe_v and_o god_n pardon_n penitent_a believer_n in_o like_a manner_n their_o paper_n in_o the_o other_o head_n express_v thing_n so_o as_o that_o such_o may_v subscribe_v it_o who_o think_v the_o filth_n and_o fault_n of_o sin_n be_v transact_v on_o christ_n he_o be_v the_o criminal_a the_o murderer_n etc._n etc._n in_o god_n account_n that_o god_n be_v real_o displease_v with_o christ_n and_o abhor_v he_o as_o our_o surety_n though_o not_o consider_v in_o himself_o and_o sundry_a the_o like_a that_o our_o paper_n give_v no_o countenance_n to_o which_o our_o subscribe_v brethren_n do_v abhor_v it_o be_v not_o then_o without_o reason_n that_o the_o dissenter_n insist_v on_o the_o first_o paper_n whether_o they_o be_v such_o who_o hold_v those_o error_n or_o resolve_v to_o indulge_v such_o as_o do_v so_o and_o yet_o there_o want_v not_o art_n in_o place_v the_o difference_n upon_o our_o omit_v a_o phrase_n in_o the_o three_o paper_n wherein_o the_o true_a sense_n of_o it_o be_v express_v for_o the_o reporter_n well_o see_v a_o quarrel_n with_o we_o for_o the_o omission_n of_o a_o phrase_n of_o so_o uncertain_a a_o sense_n be_v as_o yet_o more_o plausible_a than_o their_o struggle_n for_o error_n of_o so_o ill_a a_o sound_n will_v be_v answ._n 4._o but_o if_o the_o doctrine_n about_o which_o we_o differ_v be_v not_o yet_o sufficient_o evident_a we_o shall_v with_o a_o desire_n of_o union_n make_v this_o proposal_n if_o our_o dissent_v brethren_n will_v declare_v their_o agreement_n with_o we_o first_o that_o repentance_n towards_o god_n be_v command_v in_o order_n to_o remission_n of_o sin_n second_o that_o faith_n in_o christ_n be_v command_v by_o the_o gospel_n in_o order_n to_o the_o justification_n of_o our_o person_n before_o god_n for_o the_o sake_n of_o th●_n alone_a righteousness_n of_o christ._n three_o that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n require_v perseverance_n in_o true_a faith_n and_o holiness_n that_o we_o may_v be_v partaker_n of_o the_o heavenly_a glory_n four_o that_o the_o gospel_n promise_v pardon_n through_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n to_o the_o penitent_a justificaion_n before_o god_n to_o the_o believer_n and_o the_o heavenly_a glory_n to_o such_o as_o persevere_v in_o faith_n and_o holiness_n and_o also_o declare_v that_o god_n will_v not_o pardon_v the_o impenitent_a justify_v the_o unbeliever_n nor_o glorify_v the_o apostate_n or_o unholy_a five_o that_o justify_v faith_n be_v not_o only_o a_o persuasion_n of_o the_o understanding_n but_o also_o a_o receive_n and_o rest_v upon_o christ_n alone_o for_o salvation_n six_o that_o by_o change_n of_o person_n be_v mean_v that_o whereas_o we_o be_v condemn_v for_o our_o sin_n the_o lord_n jesus_n be_v substitute_v in_o our_o room_n to_o bear_v the_o punishment_n of_o our_o sin_n for_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o divine_a justice_n that_o whoever_o believe_v on_o he_o may_v be_v acquit_v and_o save_v but_o it_o be_v not_o intend_v that_o the_o filth_n of_o sin_n be_v upon_o christ_n nor_o that_o he_o be_v a_o criminal_a in_o god_n account_n seven_o that_o by_o christ_n being_n our_o surety_n be_v mean_v that_o jesus_n christ_n our_o mediator_n oblige_v himself_o to_o expiate_v our_o sin_n by_o his_o blood_n and_o to_o purchase_v eternal_a life_n for_o all_o that_o believe_v and_o faith_n and_o every_o save_a grace_n for_o the_o elect_n but_o it_o be_v not_o intend_v that_o we_o be_v legal_o repute_v to_o make_v satisfaction_n or_o purchase_v eternal_a life_n eight_o that_o by_o christ_n answer_v for_o we_o the_o obligation_n of_o the_o violate_a law_n of_o work_n be_v intend_v that_o whereas_o the_o law_n oblige_v we_o to_o die_v for_o our_o sin_n christ_n become_v oblige_v to_o die_v in_o our_o stead_n and_o whereas_o we_o be_v after_o we_o have_v sin_v still_o oblige_v to_o yield_v perfect_a obedience_n christ_n perfect_o obey_v the_o law_n that_o upon_o the_o account_n of_o his_o active_a and_o passive_a obedience_n believer_n may_v be_v forgive_v and_o entitle_v to_o eternal_a life_n but_o it_o be_v not_o intend_v that_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o law_n of_o work_n shall_v be_v that_o if_o we_o or_o christ_n obey_v we_o shall_v live_v and_o if_o christ_n suffer_v we_o shall_v not_o die_v though_o we_o sin_v nor_o that_o believer_n be_v justify_v or_o to_o be_v judge_v by_o the_o law_n of_o work_n but_o by_o the_o gospel_n although_o the_o righteousness_n for_o the_o sake_n of_o which_o they_o be_v justify_v be_v as_o perfect_a as_o that_o law_n of_o work_n require_v and_o far_o more_o valuable_a if_o our_o dissent_v brethren_n will_v subscribe_v to_o these_o proposition_n and_o explication_n we_o will_v subscribe_v with_o they_o even_o to_o the_o word_n change_v of_o person_n surety_n and_o answer_v for_o we_o the_o obligation_n of_o the_o violate_a law_n of_o work_n as_o well_o as_o we_o have_v already_o subscribe_v that_o no_o work_n do_v by_o man_n nor_o wrought_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o they_o be_v any_o part_n of_o that_o righteousness_n for_o the_o sake_n or_o on_o the_o account_n whereof_o we_o be_v justify_v that_o be_v only_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n without_o
