of_o the_o mighty_a creature_n be_v great_a weakness_n in_o comparison_n of_o the_o
good_a both_o in_o themselves_o and_o towards_o man_n and_o therefore_o there_o remain_v the_o wicked_a spirit_n only_o the_o devil_n with_o his_o hellhound_n on_o who_o this_o affection_n be_v to_o be_v exercise_v the_o which_o thing_n man_n may_v lawful_o do_v requite_v their_o accurse_a and_o spiteful_a hatred_n of_o god_n of_o his_o glory_n creature_n and_o special_o of_o man_n and_o his_o the_o devil_n himself_o the_o captain_n of_o this_o wicked_a crew_n be_v not_o so_o vehement_o to_o be_v hate_v as_o god_n be_v to_o be_v love_v because_o he_o be_v not_o so_o evil_a as_o god_n be_v good_a for_o god_n be_v simple_o infinite_o and_o essential_o good_a but_o the_o devil_n be_v not_o infinite_o evil_a because_o he_o be_v a_o creature_n nor_o absolute_o for_o he_o have_v some_o good_a in_o he_o as_o be_v the_o create_a might_n and_o power_n of_o his_o nature_n nor_o essential_o for_o the_o substance_n of_o his_o nature_n remain_v uncorrupt_a as_o in_o the_o holy_a angel_n marvel_n for_o they_o be_v of_o so_o violent_a a_o nature_n as_o can_v without_o much_o a_o do_v be_v keep_v in_o due_a order_n by_o the_o force_n either_o of_o create_v or_o renew_v holiness_n how_o great_a shall_v we_o think_v their_o disorder_n &_o sinfulness_n to_o be_v in_o this_o corrupt_a state_n wherein_o they_o may_v run_v at_o random_n as_o far_o as_o they_o listen_v be_v not_o restrain_v by_o any_o superior_a power_n whereof_o it_o come_v that_o as_o they_o be_v sanctify_v and_o set_v on_o good_a do_v procure_v a_o great_a increase_n of_o holiness_n as_o have_v be_v say_v so_o they_o be_v in_o a_o carnal_a and_o sinful_a man_n esspecial_o where_o they_o be_v strong_a by_o nature_n do_v increase_v his_o sinfulness_n unto_o the_o high_a degree_n hatred_n the_o which_o as_o it_o be_v strong_a in_o the_o other_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n so_o in_o the_o affection_n it_o may_v well_o be_v compare_v to_o a_o mad_a man_n set_v on_o horsbacke_n yea_o on_o a_o wild_a horse_n which_o can_v either_o stay_v himself_o or_o be_v stay_v by_o any_o other_o mean_n till_o he_o have_v run_v himself_o out_o of_o breath_n and_o life_n in_o all_o outrage_n of_o sin_n the_o sinfulness_n of_o the_o affection_n consist_v in_o this_o that_o they_o be_v move_v by_o contrary_a object_n for_o those_o which_o shall_v be_v stir_v up_o by_o the_o evilnesse_n of_o the_o object_n to_o abhor_v it_o do_v in_o that_o respect_n embrace_v it_o and_o move_v towards_o it_o and_o contrarilie_o those_o which_o shall_v be_v move_v by_o the_o goodness_n of_o the_o object_n to_o embrace_v it_o do_v in_o that_o respect_n abhor_v and_o avoid_v it_o as_o will_v appear_v more_o plain_o in_o the_o particular_n as_o namely_o in_o love_n and_o hatred_n the_o which_o affection_n be_v both_o common_a and_o strong_a in_o carnal_a man_n yet_o not_o hole_o &_o right_o dispose_v in_o they_o for_o they_o do_v rather_o love_v that_o which_o they_o shall_v hate_v and_o hate_v that_o which_o they_o shall_v love_v than_o love_n and_o hate_n that_o which_o ought_v to_o be_v love_v and_o hate_v first_o as_o touch_v god_n on_o who_o man_n ought_v to_o set_v his_o whole_a love_n a_o carnal_a they_o nor_o by_o any_o other_o mean_v purchase_v his_o love_n so_o great_o be_v the_o affection_n of_o man_n alienate_v from_o god_n yet_o we_o can_v say_v that_o man_n do_v by_o nature_n hate_v god_n for_o then_o his_o fall_n be_v as_o great_a as_o the_o fall_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o wicked_a spirit_n which_o be_v not_o to_o be_v think_v especial_o see_v that_o we_o know_v that_o all_o man_n by_o the_o instinct_n of_o nature_n delight_n to_o have_v a_o god_n according_a to_o their_o own_o imagination_n and_o he_o they_o will_v love_v and_o honour_n yet_o this_o may_v be_v truly-saide_a that_o it_o be_v natural_a for_o man_n to_o increase_v as_o in_o all_o other_o part_n of_o his_o natural_a sinfulness_n so_o also_o and_o especial_o in_o the_o want_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o so_o much_o that_o although_o not_o all_o yet_o many_o become_v hater_n of_o god_n as_o appear_v rom_n 1._o 30._o 30._o for_o although_o man_n especial_o live_v in_o the_o church_n be_v restrain_v by_o the_o shame_n of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o fear_n of_o punishment_n from_o profess_v themselves_o to_o be_v hater_n of_o god_n yet_o in_o that_o they_o do_v hate_v the_o minister_n and_o servant_n of_o god_n which_o do_v zealous_o preach_v and_o profess_v his_o gospel_n behave_v themselves_o spiteful_o contumelious_o and_o malicious_o towards_o they_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o in_o their_o heart_n they_o do_v hate_n god_n himself_o as_o christ_n witness_v joh._n 7._o 7._o the_o world_n can_v hate_v you_o but_o i_o it_o hate_v because_o i_o testify_v of_o that_o may_v be_v call_v love_n and_o not_o rather_o hatred_n which_o bring_v to_o everlasting_a destruction_n and_o all_o manner_n of_o worldly_a and_o fleshly_a pleasure_n soft_a apparel_n and_o to_o go_v brave_o sweet_a meat_n and_o to_o fare_v dainty_o fair_a building_n for_o outward_a pomp_n and_o vainglory_n scotfree_a coffer_n without_o any_o scarcity_n new_a pastime_n &_o merry_a company_n sleep_n ease_n idleness_n warmness_n &_o whatsoever_o may_v please_v the_o mind_n or_o tickle_v the_o outward_a sense_n hatred_n that_o be_v the_o thing_n which_o man_n love_v but_o what_o say_v you_o to_o the_o stream_n which_o come_v from_o this_o self_n love_n do_v not_o man_n in_o this_o sinful_a estate_n love_v his_o parent_n child_n wife_n friend_n and_o acquaintance_n we_o answer_v that_o he_o love_v all_o these_o by_o the_o instinct_n of_o nature_n and_o yet_o by_o the_o increase_n of_o his_o natural_a corruption_n it_o do_v usual_o come_v to_o pass_v as_o experience_n do_v teach_v that_o most_o natural_a man_n love_v neither_o father_n nor_o mother_n son_n nor_o daughter_n sister_n nor_o brother_n wife_n nor_o friend_n kinsman_n nor_o neighbour_n nor_o any_o other_o save_v only_o themselves_o so_o that_o man_n make_v himself_o a_o idol_n love_v hinselfe_n whole_o and_o only_o as_o he_o shall_v do_v god_n and_o bear_v no_o hearty_a affection_n either_o
