of_o christendom_n and_o the_o pagan_a and_o mahometan_a part_n of_o the_o world_n next_o to_o christianity_n and_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n which_o be_v confine_v to_o one_o nation_n philosophy_n be_v the_o most_o likely_a instrument_n to_o reform_v mankind_n that_o have_v be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o it_o have_v very_o considerable_a effect_n upon_o some_o particular_a person_n both_o as_o to_o the_o rectify_v of_o their_o opinion_n and_o the_o reform_v of_o their_o life_n but_o upon_o the_o generality_n of_o mankind_n it_o do_v very_o little_a in_o either_o of_o these_o respect_n especial_o as_o to_o the_o rectify_v of_o the_o absurd_a and_o impious_a opinion_n of_o the_o people_n concern_v god_n and_o their_o superstitious_a worship_n of_o the_o deity_n whereas_o the_o christian_a religion_n do_v universal_o wherever_o it_o come_v set_v man_n free_a from_o those_o gross_a impiety_n and_o superstition_n and_o teach_v man_n to_o worship_v the_o only_a true_a god_n in_o a_o right_a manner_n though_o we_o must_v confess_v to_o the_o eternal_a reproach_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n that_o the_o western_a church_n have_v degenerate_v so_o far_o that_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v in_o a_o great_a measure_n relap_v into_o the_o ignorance_n and_o superstition_n of_o paganism_n out_o of_o which_o degeneracy_n that_o god_n have_v rescue_v we_o as_o we_o have_v infinite_a cause_n to_o adore_v his_o goodness_n so_o we_o have_v all_o the_o reason_n in_o the_o world_n to_o dread_v and_o detest_v a_o return_n into_o this_o spiritual_a egypt_n this_o house_n of_o darkness_n and_o bondage_n and_o the_o bring_n of_o our_o neck_n again_o under_o that_o yoke_n which_o neither_o we_o nor_o our_o father_n be_v able_a to_o bear_v so_o that_o you_o see_v that_o there_o be_v still_o very_o considerable_a effect_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n in_o the_o world_n yea_o and_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o in_o those_o place_n where_o it_o be_v most_o corrupt_a and_o degenerate_v because_o they_o still_o retain_v the_o essential_a doctrine_n of_o christianity_n which_o have_v not_o quite_o lose_v their_o force_n notwithstanding_o the_o many_o error_n and_o corruption_n that_o be_v mix_v with_o they_o and_o as_o god_n know_v and_o every_o man_n see_v it_o that_o the_o generality_n of_o christian_n be_v very_o bad_a notwithstanding_o all_o the_o influence_n of_o that_o excellent_a religion_n which_o they_o profess_v yet_o i_o think_v it_o be_v very_o evident_a man_n will_v be_v much_o worse_o without_o it_o for_o though_o very_a many_o who_o have_v entertain_v the_o principle_n of_o christianity_n be_v very_o wicked_a in_o their_o life_n yet_o many_o be_v otherwise_o and_o those_o that_o be_v bad_a have_v this_o advantage_n by_o their_o religion_n that_o it_o be_v in_o its_o nature_n apt_a to_o reduce_v and_o recover_v man_n from_o a_o wicked_a course_n and_o sometime_o do_v whereas_o the_o case_n of_o those_o person_n will_v have_v by_o the_o strength_n and_o assistance_n of_o another_o be_v not_o impossible_a to_o we_o sure_o st._n paul_n do_v no_o way_n derogate_v from_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n when_o he_o say_v i_o be_o able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n through_o christ_n strengthen_v i_o he_o reckon_v himself_o able_a to_o do_v all_o that_o which_o by_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n he_o be_v enable_v to_o do_v and_o to_o no_o purpose_n but_o very_o unreasonable_a if_o we_o be_v whole_o destitute_a of_o power_n to_o do_v what_o god_n command_v but_o if_o he_o be_v always_o ready_a at_o hand_n to_o assist_v we_o by_o a_o grace_n sufficient_a for_o we_o if_o he_o cooperate_v with_o we_o in_o the_o work_n of_o our_o salvation_n then_o be_v there_o abundant_a ground_n of_o encouragement_n to_o our_o endeavour_n and_o if_o we_o fall_v short_a of_o eternal_a salvation_n it_o be_v whole_o our_o own_o fault_n it_o be_v not_o because_o god_n be_v want_v to_o we_o in_o those_o aid_n and_o assistance_n of_o his_o grace_n which_o be_v necessary_a but_o because_o we_o be_v want_v to_o ourselves_o in_o not_o seek_v god_n grace_n more_o earnest_o or_o by_o neglect_v to_o make_v use_n of_o it_o when_o it_o be_v afford_v to_o we_o for_o it_o be_v real_o all_o one_o both_o to_o the_o encouragement_n of_o our_o endeavour_n and_o to_o the_o render_n of_o our_o disobedience_n inexcusable_a whether_o we_o be_v able_a of_o ourselves_o to_o perform_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o gospel_n or_o god_n be_v ready_a to_o assist_v we_o by_o his_o grace_n and_o holy_a spirit_n to_o that_o purpose_n wherefore_o as_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v heb._n 12._o 12_o 13_o 14_o 15._o lift_v up_o the_o hand_n which_o hang_v down_o and_o the_o feeble_a knee_n and_o make_v strait_a path_n for_o your_o foot_n lest_o that_o which_o be_v lame_a be_v turn_v out_o of_o the_o way_n but_o let_v it_o rather_o be_v heal_v follow_v holiness_n without_o which_o no_o man_n shall_v see_v the_o lord_n look_v diligent_o lest_o any_o
