exercise_n of_o a_o sovereign_a authority_n and_o power_n that_o be_v in_o govern_v and_o judge_v mankind_n wise_o holy_o with_o goodness_n and_o justice_n and_o this_o certain_o prove_v that_o god_n as_o sovereign_a lord_n do_v govern_v and_o judge_v the_o world_n for_o he_o can_v exercise_v his_o wisdom_n or_o holiness_n or_o goodness_n or_o justice_n as_o sovereign_n if_o he_o exercise_v no_o act_n of_o sovereignty_n he_o can_v judge_v wise_o holy_o or_o righteous_o if_o he_o do_v not_o judge_v at_o all_o and_o therefore_o though_o he_o be_v wise_a and_o holy_a and_o jâ—st_n and_o good_a present_a and_o yet_o the_o present_a administration_n of_o providence_n do_v not_o always_o make_v a_o sufficient_a distinction_n between_o good_a and_o bad_a man_n in_o this_o world_n good_a man_n be_v very_o often_o afflict_v and_o bad_a man_n prospeaous_a which_o give_v we_o a_o reasonable_a expectation_n of_o a_o more_o just_a and_o righteous_a tribunal_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v where_o reward_n and_o punishment_n shall_v be_v more_o equal_o dispense_v but_o to_o discourse_v this_o more_o particular_o i_o observe_v that_o the_o external_a appearance_n of_o providence_n and_o if_o all_o humane_a art_n and_o philosophy_n can_v make_v a_o fly_n nor_o so_o much_o as_o understand_v the_o make_v of_o it_o how_o can_v we_o possible_o imagine_v that_o such_o a_o world_n as_o this_o which_o consist_v of_o such_o infinite_a variety_n of_o creature_n and_o every_o creature_n make_v up_o of_o so_o many_o natural_a wonder_n and_o all_o so_o admirable_o fit_v to_o each_o other_o as_o to_o make_v up_o a_o uniform_a regular_a and_o beautiful_a world_n shall_v own_o any_o other_o author_n but_o a_o infinite_o wise_a and_o perfect_a be_v who_o have_v all_o power_n and_o all_o possible_a idea_n of_o usefulness_n and_o beauty_n that_o be_v to_o say_v since_o there_o be_v such_o apparent_a character_n and_o impression_n of_o a_o excellent_a and_o unsearchable_a wisdom_n in_o the_o frame_n of_o the_o world_n a_o wise_a be_v must_v be_v the_o maker_n of_o it_o and_o be_v it_o not_o as_o good_a a_o argument_n that_o if_o humane_a nature_n be_v so_o contrive_v that_o man_n who_o be_v a_o free_a agent_n shall_v be_v happy_a or_o miserable_a as_o he_o be_v good_a or_o bad_a that_o god_n make_v he_o to_o be_v govern_v and_o therefore_o intend_v to_o govern_v he_o intemperance_n and_o lust_n and_o prodigality_n may_v ruin_v a_o estate_n fraud_n injustice_n and_o oppression_n may_v get_v one_o and_o as_o hurtful_a as_o some_o vice_n be_v to_o our_o health_n a_o cautious_a sinner_n and_o such_o there_o be_v in_o the_o world_n may_v be_v very_o wicked_a without_o injure_v his_o health_n or_o shorten_v his_o life_n and_o as_o infamous_a as_o sin_n be_v this_o may_v be_v so_o conceal_v and_o palliate_v by_o external_a honour_n that_o the_o sinner_n shall_v not_o feel_v it_o nor_o bad_a man_n see_v it_o nor_o good_a man_n dare_v take_v notice_n of_o it_o judge_n that_o he_o who_o come_v into_o the_o world_n in_o humane_a nature_n to_o declare_v the_o will_n of_o god_n to_o we_o shall_v come_v again_o to_o judge_v we_o by_o that_o gospel_n which_o he_o preach_v when_o god_n send_v his_o prophet_n to_o we_o there_o be_v great_a reason_n to_o reverence_v the_o authority_n of_o god_n in_o they_o but_o much_o more_o when_o our_o judge_n come_v to_o preach_v to_o we_o himself_o for_o we_o may_v be_v sure_o he_o will_v not_o preach_v in_o vain_a the_o law_n he_o preach_v to_o we_o at_o his_o first_o come_n shall_v be_v the_o rule_n whereby_o he_o will_v judge_v we_o at_o his_o second_o come_v especial_o when_o we_o consider_v that_o both_o our_o prophet_n and_o our_o judge_n be_v the_o saviour_n of_o mankind_n we_o may_v possible_o flatter_v ourselves_o that_o when_o god_n come_v to_o judgement_n he_o may_v relax_v somewhat_o of_o the_o rigour_n and_o severity_n of_o his_o law_n that_o he_o have_v reserve_v to_o himself_o a_o liberty_n of_o dispense_v with_o our_o obedience_n to_o those_o law_n which_o by_o his_o prophet_n he_o command_v we_o to_o obey_v but_o we_o can_v think_v that_o our_o saviour_n will_v lay_v any_o unnecessary_a burden_n on_o we_o that_o he_o will_v require_v any_o thing_n of_o we_o under_o the_o pain_n of_o damnation_n but_o what_o he_o expect_v we_o shall_v do_v that_o he_o will_v dispense_v grace_n can_v dispense_v away_o all_o our_o duty_n and_o dispense_v unreformed_a and_o impenitent_a sinner_n into_o heaven_n if_o this_o can_v be_v do_v there_o be_v no_o reason_n why_o the_o and_o most_o compassionate_a man_n in_o the_o world_n fall_v infinite_o short_a of_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n but_o they_o be_v afraid_a of_o his_o holiness_n and_o of_o his_o justice_n that_o these_o attribute_n will_v not_o suffer_v he_o to_o make_v sufficient_a allowance_n for_o the_o weakness_n of_o humane_a nature_n on_o the_o other_o hand_n though_o man_n know_v enough_o to_o pity_v each_o other_o infirmity_n yet_o they_o be_v not_o always_o the_o most_o favourable_a â—udges_n to_o one_o another_o in_o reason_n they_o shall_v be_v so_o that_o those_o who_o be_v expose_v to_o the_o same_o temptation_n themselves_o who_o feel_v the_o weakness_n and_o infirmity_n of_o humane_a nature_n shall_v pity_v those_o who_o be_v overcome_v by_o they_o but_o it_o be_v not_o always_o so_o and_o therefore_o we_o can_v always_o rely_v on_o it_o but_o when_o god_n become_v man_n we_o have_v all_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n and_o all_o the_o tender_a compassion_n of_o a_o man_n in_o but_o whether_o this_o remove_v their_o poverty_n or_o no_o it_o will_v support_v they_o under_o it_o make_v they_o patient_a and_o content_v with_o their_o portion_n here_o if_o they_o govern_v their_o life_n under_o the_o sense_n of_o a_o future_a judgement_n it_o will_v support_v they_o under_o the_o meanness_n and_o calamity_n of_o their_o present_a fortune_n with_o better_a hope_n they_o will_v then_o contemplate_v lazarus_n in_o abraham_n bosom_n and_o comfort_v themselves_o with_o the_o happy_a change_n of_o their_o condition_n as_o soon_o as_o they_o remove_v into_o the_o other_o world_n there_o they_o shall_v hunger_n no_o more_o nor_o thirst_v any_o more_o their_o want_n and_o suffering_n in_o this_o world_n if_o they_o bear_v they_o well_o shall_v be_v great_o reward_v and_o though_o they_o grovel_v in_o the_o dust_n here_o and_o be_v worm_n and_o no_o man_n they_o shall_v then_o shine_v forth_o like_o the_o sun_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o their_o father_n it_o be_v own_o that_o they_o have_v the_o least_o hope_n of_o escape_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n more_o than_o other_o man_n yet_o there_o be_v reason_n to_o suspect_v that_o they_o flatter_v themselves_o that_o their_o age_n will_v excuse_v their_o crime_n that_o god_n will_v take_v little_a notice_n of_o the_o folly_n and_o giddiness_n of_o youth_n but_o will_v wink_v at_o it_o as_o he_o do_v at_o the_o time_n of_o ignorance_n for_o though_o young_a man_n common_o think_v themselves_o the_o wise_a part_n of_o mankind_n and_o despite_o the_o experience_n and_o counsel_n of_o age_n yet_o they_o be_v very_o strong_a and_o vigorous_a in_o they_o and_o reason_n be_v weak_a their_o passion_n eager_a and_o vehement_a and_o yet_o soft_a and_o tender_a to_o every_o impression_n they_o be_v lead_v by_o example_n and_o there_o be_v more_o bad_a than_o good_a example_n in_o the_o world_n and_o the_o example_n of_o the_o most_o be_v most_o prevalent_a especial_o when_o they_o tempt_v they_o to_o ease_n and_o softness_n and_o luxury_n which_o be_v great_a temptation_n to_o youth_n without_o example_n and_o can_v we_o think_v that_o god_n will_v make_v great_a allowance_n for_o such_o a_o weak_a and_o deceivable_a state_n of_o humane_a nature_n this_o be_v the_o fair_a plea_n that_o can_v be_v make_v for_o youth_n why_o god_n shall_v indulge_v their_o extravagancy_n and_o not_o exact_v so_o strict_a and_o severe_a a_o account_n from_o they_o as_o from_o those_o of_o ripe_a year_n but_o if_o we_o consider_v this_o over_o again_o we_o shall_v find_v as_o great_a reason_n why_o god_n shall_v judge_v youth_n as_o why_o he_o shall_v judge_v any_o other_o age_n of_o man_n 1._o for_o first_o young_a man_n be_v accountable_a for_o their_o action_n as_o well_o as_o the_o old_a they_o understand_v the_o difference_n between_o good_a and_o evil_a they_o know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n who_o creature_n they_o be_v and_o who_o they_o ought_v to_o worship_n and_o obey_v and_o this_o as_o i_o observe_v before_o make_v man_n a_o accountable_a creature_n and_o that_o make_v it_o fit_a for_o god_n to_o call_v he_o to_o a_o account_n and_o if_o this_o be_v a_o good_a argument_n difference_n in_o the_o account_n of_o young_a and_o old_a man_n though_o it_o will_v not_o whole_o excuse_v young_a man_n from_o give_v a_o account_n this_o may_v excuse_v a_o great_a many_o folly_n indiscretion_n and_o mistake_v of_o youth_n but_o it_o can_v excuse_v no_o know_a and_o wilful_a sin_n there_o be_v a_o certain_a age_n indeed_o before_o humane_a law_n will_v take_v cognizance_n of_o the_o action_n of_o child_n as_o not_o look_v on_o they_o as_o reasonable_a agent_n they_o must_v be_v govern_v by_o the_o rod_n and_o keep_v under_o discipline_n but_o have_v not_o understanding_n assurance_n and_o confidence_n of_o dutiful_a child_n in_o their_o address_n to_o god_n when_o they_o draw_v near_o a_o conclusion_n of_o their_o life_n they_o review_v their_o past_a victory_n over_o for_o their_o time_n be_v past_a and_o their_o youthful_a strength_n and_o vigour_n spend_v and_o the_o scene_n of_o action_n over_o they_o can_v never_o recall_n thirty_o or_o forty_o year_n past_a in_o which_o if_o they_o have_v improve_v their_o time_n well_o they_o may_v have_v do_v great_a service_n to_o god_n and_o to_o religion_n and_o great_a good_a to_o man_n but_o those_o who_o be_v whatever_o we_o have_v do_v in_o the_o body_n yet_o there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o thing_n which_o in_o themselves_o be_v very_o great_a crime_n and_o yet_o many_o man_n think_v there_o be_v no_o account_n to_o be_v give_v of_o they_o i_o shall_v not_o instance_n in_o particular_a sin_n though_o a_o great_a many_o such_o there_o be_v which_o few_o man_n take_v any_o great_a notice_n of_o but_o shall_v confine_v myself_o to_o what_o be_v of_o a_o more_o general_a nature_n for_o particular_n will_v be_v endless_a i._n first_o then_o we_o must_v remember_v we_o shall_v be_v judge_v for_o our_o ignorance_n which_o some_o man_n be_v so_o far_o from_o suspect_v that_o they_o take_v sanctuary_n in_o their_o ignorance_n to_o screen_n they_o from_o the_o judgement_n of_o god._n if_o they_o can_v but_o keep_v out_o the_o light_n they_o
think_v they_o be_v safe_a to_o stumble_v and_o fall_v in_o the_o dark_a be_v a_o misfortune_n not_o a_o fault_n and_o will_v rather_o move_v pity_n and_o compassion_n than_o provoke_v revenge_n this_o make_v some_o man_n so_o regardless_o of_o knowledge_n they_o think_v god_n will_v judge_v they_o for_o no_o more_o than_o they_o know_v and_o all_o the_o good_a they_o be_v like_a to_o get_v by_o knowledge_n be_v to_o increase_v and_o aggravate_v their_o account_n i_o shall_v not_o enter_v into_o that_o dispute_n now_o which_o be_v nothing_o to_o our_o present_a purpose_n how_o far_o instruction_n and_o direction_n of_o our_o spiritual_a guide_n for_o since_o christ_n come_v from_o heaven_n to_o declare_v the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o have_v put_v the_o holy_a scripture_n into_o our_o hand_n which_o be_v a_o perfect_a rule_n of_o faith_n and_o manner_n and_o furnish_v we_o with_o all_o the_o advantage_n to_o increase_v in_o knowledge_n it_o be_v as_o dangerous_a a_o thing_n of_o sin_v though_o in_o private_a wear_v off_o the_o modesty_n of_o humane_a nature_n and_o when_o man_n forget_v to_o blush_v they_o despise_v reproach_n and_o censure_n and_o then_o publish_v their_o own_o wickedness_n and_o seek_v for_o retirement_n and_o privacy_n no_o long_o the_o most_o impudent_a sinner_n in_o the_o world_n be_v at_o first_o modest_a but_o if_o they_o can_v find_v any_o excuse_n to_o make_v a_o beginning_n how_o modest_a soever_o their_o beginning_n be_v they_o quick_o improve_v and_o lose_v the_o sense_n of_o sin_n and_o aversion_n to_o it_o by_o their_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o choose_v very_o well_o for_o themselves_o and_o thus_o entertain_v their_o delude_a fanice_n with_o vain_a and_o empty_a scene_n of_o greatness_n and_o glory_n the_o pharisee_n think_v all_o this_o very_a innocent_a that_o to_o lust_n after_o a_o beautiful_a woman_n and_o please_v themselves_o with_o amorous_a and_o wanton_a imagination_n be_v no_o crime_n if_o they_o do_v shame_n and_o aversion_n of_o nature_n to_o education_n and_o popular_a mistake_n thus_o though_o man_n have_v a_o natural_a sense_n of_o god_n displeasure_n against_o sin_n and_o natural_a conscience_n threaten_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n against_o sinner_n yet_o the_o experience_n of_o the_o world_n tell_v we_o that_o most_o man_n flatter_v themselves_o that_o god_n may_v be_v
