the_o foundation_n and_o ground_n of_o our_o assent_n in_o this_o 2._o case_n be_v not_o the_o bare_a testimony_n of_o antiquity_n but_o the_o assurance_n which_o we_o have_v either_o that_o their_o practice_n do_v not_o vary_v from_o what_o be_v apostolical_a or_o in_o their_o write_n that_o they_o can_v not_o mistake_v concern_v what_o they_o deliver_v unto_o we_o and_o therefore_o those_o who_o will_v infer_v the_o necessary_a obligation_n of_o man_n to_o any_o form_n of_o government_n because_o that_o be_v practise_v by_o the_o apostle_n and_o then_o prove_v the_o apostolical_a practice_n from_o that_o of_o the_o age_n succeed_v or_o from_o their_o write_n must_v first_o of_o all_o prove_v that_o what_o be_v do_v then_o be_v certain_o the_o apostle_n practice_n and_o so_o prove_v the_o same_o thing_n by_o its_o self_n or_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a they_o shall_v vary_v from_o it_o or_o that_o they_o shall_v mistake_v in_o judge_v of_o it_o for_o here_o something_o more_o be_v require_v then_o a_o mere_a matter_n of_o fact_n in_o which_o i_o confess_v their_o nearness_n to_o the_o apostle_n time_n do_v give_v they_o a_o advantage_n above_o the_o age_n follow_v be_v not_o immutable_a but_o temporary_a and_o occasional_a may_v upon_o as_o great_a ground_n give_v and_o approve_v of_o god_n for_o that_o end_n as_o be_v evident_a by_o the_o apostle_n practice_n be_v sufficient_a reason_n of_o the_o alteration_n of_o the_o seven_o day_n to_o the_o first_o day_n of_o the_o week_n by_o this_o may_v brief_o be_v see_v how_o irrational_o those_o speak_v who_o say_v we_o have_v no_o further_a ground_n for_o our_o observation_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n now_o then_o for_o other_o arbitrary_a festival_n in_o the_o church_n viz._n the_o tradition_n of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n i_o grant_v the_o tradition_n of_o the_o church_n do_v acquaint_v we_o with_o apostolical_a practice_n but_o the_o ground_n of_o our_o observation_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n be_v not_o the_o church_n tradition_n but_o that_o apostolical_a practice_n convey_v by_o universal_a tradition_n which_o set_v aside_o the_o festival_n observe_v upon_o the_o lord_n day_n can_v very_o hardly_o be_v â—ound_v for_o any_o other_o but_o suppose_v universal_a tradition_n for_o other_o festival_n i_o say_v here_o tradition_n be_v not_o only_o use_v as_o a_o testimony_n and_o instrument_n of_o conveyance_n as_o in_o the_o other_o case_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n but_o be_v itself_o the_o only_a argument_n and_o the_o very_a ground_n of_o the_o original_a observation_n between_o which_o two_o what_o a_o wide_a difference_n there_o be_v let_v any_o rational_a man_n judge_v but_o for_o a_o further_o clear_v this_o observation_n we_o must_v consider_v that_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o command_n which_o we_o say_v be_v the_o measure_n of_o its_o obligation_n must_v not_o be_v fetch_v from_o man_n uncertain_a conjecture_n among_o who_o dream_v often_o pass_v for_o reason_n but_o it_o must_v be_v either_o express_v in_o the_o law_n its_o self_n or_o deducible_a by_o apparent_a and_o easy_a collection_n from_o it_o as_o be_v plain_a in_o the_o decree_n of_o the_o apostle_n about_o thing_n strangle_v 29._o and_o offer_v to_o idol_n where_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o command_n be_v plain_o imply_v to_o wit_n for_o present_a compliance_n with_o the_o jew_n and_o therefore_o no_o
