saviour_n and_o herein_o christ_n have_v no_o peer_n it_o be_v a_o high_a and_o matchless_a honour_n which_o no_o other_o creature_n be_v capable_a of_o by_o which_o our_o nature_n be_v advance_v in_o he_o above_o all_o other_o thing_n and_o person_n in_o the_o world_n beside_o use_v 2_o be_v it_o so_o that_o even_o the_o manhood_n etc._n etc._n then_o as_o we_o may_v take_v notice_n here_o of_o the_o advancement_n of_o the_o nature_n so_o of_o our_o personal_a advancement_n too_o as_o many_o of_o we_o as_o belong_v to_o christ_n for_o all_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o godhead_n with_o which_o the_o manhood_n shine_v be_v for_o we_o and_o our_o advantage_n if_o he_o sanctify_v himself_o it_o be_v for_o our_o sake_n as_o his_o own_o expression_n be_v and_o so_o if_o he_o glorify_v himself_o it_o so_o we_o be_v certain_a that_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o manhood_n of_o our_o saviour_n shall_v one_o day_n be_v communicate_v to_o we_o so_o far_o as_o we_o be_v able_a to_o receive_v it_o we_o know_v that_o when_o he_o shall_v appear_v we_o shall_v be_v like_o he_o and_o that_o these_o vile_a body_n shall_v be_v conform_v to_o his_o glorious_a body_n phil._n 3.21_o and_o this_o shall_v have_v a_o double_a operation_n and_o effect_n upon_o we_o 1._o first_o it_o shall_v make_v we_o to_o despise_v the_o shame_n of_o this_o world_n though_o we_o be_v trample_v under_o foot_n and_o make_v the_o dung_n and_o the_o offscouring_a of_o the_o earth_n as_o this_o be_v many_o time_n the_o portion_n of_o the_o saint_n our_o spirit_n shall_v not_o droop_v or_o sink_v within_o we_o no_o consider_v that_o we_o shall_v short_o shine_v with_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n 2._o second_o it_o shall_v cause_v we_o so_o to_o walk_v that_o we_o be_v not_o in_o any_o thing_n a_o shame_n to_o christ_n who_o god_n have_v make_v so_o glorious_a and_o who_o will_v short_o make_v we_o so_o glorious_a in_o who_o the_o humane_a nature_n be_v advance_v to_o such_o honour_n as_o to_o partake_v of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o godhead_n mark_v what_o the_o apostle_n say_v shall_v i_o take_v the_o member_n of_o christ_n and_o make_v they_o the_o member_n of_o a_o harlot_n so_o may_v i_o say_v on_o this_o occasion_n shall_v i_o take_v the_o nature_n of_o christ_n the_o nature_n which_o our_o saviour_n in_o his_o person_n have_v so_o high_o dignify_v and_o make_v it_o in_o my_o person_n when_o we_o threaten_v judgement_n when_o we_o retain_v the_o sin_n of_o man_n when_o we_o give_v they_o up_o to_o satan_n either_o in_o preach_v or_o in_o church-censure_n when_o we_o say_v of_o he_o bear_v to_o they_o and_o to_o think_v of_o nothing_o else_o but_o mercy_n mercy_n to_o his_o saint_n thus_o i_o kill_v they_o and_o destroy_v they_o because_o my_o mercy_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o learn_v to_o look_v upon_o it_o so_o to_o have_v such_o thought_n and_o apprehension_n upon_o such_o occasion_n and_o that_o the_o rather_o because_o there_o be_v a_o inconveniency_n in_o it_o many_o time_n when_o we_o behold_v christ_n in_o another_o way_n we_o look_v upon_o the_o judgement_n which_o he_o wreak_v and_o execute_v upon_o the_o enemy_n and_o persecuter_n of_o the_o church_n as_o if_o he_o bring_v they_o on_o they_o out_o of_o such_o a_o hatred_n to_o they_o as_o we_o ourselves_o be_v apt_a to_o have_v and_o so_o our_o heart_n be_v carry_v out_o in_o way_n of_o malice_n and_o we_o make_v christ_n upon_o the_o matter_n but_o the_o instrument_n of_o our_o revenge_n whereas_o if_o we_o do_v apprehend_v he_o as_o aim_v not_o so_o much_o at_o the_o destruction_n and_o ruin_n of_o the_o wicked_a as_o at_o the_o good_a and_o preservation_n of_o his_o people_n and_o as_o administration_n of_o his_o power_n which_o he_o see_v necessary_a for_o the_o peace_n and_o welfare_n of_o the_o saint_n our_o heart_n will_v be_v in_o a_o more_o sweet_a and_o holy_a temper_n than_o they_o be_v sometime_o in_o such_o case_n for_o than_o my_o brethren_n we_o shall_v see_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n in_o all_o these_o dispensation_n of_o his_o wrath_n the_o more_o his_o anger_n be_v declare_v at_o any_o time_n against_o the_o wicked_a the_o more_o we_o shall_v be_v take_v up_o with_o thought_n and_o apprehension_n of_o his_o love_n to_o we_o the_o great_a fury_n and_o displeasure_n he_o reveal_v against_o they_o the_o more_o we_o shall_v be_v lead_v to_o contemplation_n of_o his_o mercy_n to_o ourselves_o oh_o what_o be_v we_o that_o he_o shall_v have_v such_o dear_a respect_n to_o we_o that_o he_o shall_v be_v so_o angry_a with_o poor_a creature_n and_o execute_v such_o heavy_a judgement_n on_o they_o for_o our_o sake_n use_v 4_o be_v it_o so_o that_o the_o authority_n etc._n etc._n be_v chief_o for_o the_o good_a etc._n etc._n this_o than_o methinks_v shall_v prevail_v with_o wicked_a man_n yea_o though_o they_o perish_v to_o have_v better_a thought_n of_o christ_n and_o mild_a apprehension_n than_o they_o have_v for_o you_o must_v know_v my_o brethren_n that_o christ_n have_v many_o enemy_n there_o be_v abundance_n in_o the_o world_n that_o hate_v he_o who_o very_a heart_n do_v rise_v against_o he_o and_o whence_o be_v this_o but_o because_o they_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o one_o that_o aim_v at_o their_o destruction_n as_o one_o that_o mean_v to_o have_v their_o blood_n to_o ruin_v they_o and_o damn_v they_o in_o the_o pit_n of_o hell_n for_o ever_o now_o i_o beseech_v you_o my_o belove_a do_v not_o so_o mistake_v yourselves_o think_v not_o so_o hardly_o of_o the_o lord_n christ_n believe_v it_o jesus_n christ_n have_v other_o purpose_n then_o these_o whatever_o you_o conceive_v of_o he_o he_o come_v not_o to_o judge_v the_o world_n but_o that_o the_o world_n by_o he_o may_v be_v save_v he_o come_v not_o to_o destroy_v you_o but_o to_o save_v his_o own_o people_n and_o therefore_o if_o you_o be_v destroy_v thank_v yourselves_o and_o not_o he_o your_o help_n if_o you_o have_v any_o be_v to_o satisfy_v for_o all_o if_o all_o shall_v apprehend_v it_o and_o lie_v hold_v upon_o it_o no_o he_o have_v order_v matter_n so_o that_o there_o be_v enough_o put_v in_o not_o for_o believer_n only_o but_o for_o they_o that_o perish_v too_o and_o that_o which_o be_v put_v in_o as_o it_o be_v sufficient_a for_o you_o so_o it_o be_v applicable_a to_o you_o as_o well_o as_o other_o as_o it_o be_v pay_v in_o your_o nature_n so_o any_o of_o your_o nature_n may_v partake_v it_o if_o they_o will_v lay_v hold_n upon_o it_o it_o be_v a_o satisfaction_n which_o nothing_o but_o your_o unbelief_n and_o your_o refusal_n can_v make_v you_o uncapable_a of_o and_o hence_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v a_o tender_a of_o it_o to_o be_v make_v the_o gospel_n to_o be_v preach_v to_o you_o as_o well_o as_o other_o so_o run_v the_o tenor_n of_o his_o own_o commission_n go_v preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o every_o creature_n tell_v every_o man_n without_o exception_n that_o there_o be_v good_a news_n for_o he_o that_o christ_n be_v dead_a for_o he_o if_o he_o embrace_v he_o yea_o christ_n himself_o do_v by_o his_o messenger_n persuade_v you_o yea_o entreat_v

order_v by_o his_o father_n in_o the_o work_n he_o do_v in_o this_o world_n and_o first_o of_o all_o in_o the_o work_n of_o satisfaction_n here_o than_o we_o may_v behold_v and_o wonder_v at_o the_o admirable_a condescension_n of_o our_o bless_a saviour_n that_o be_v god_n coequal_a with_o the_o father_n he_o shall_v in_o his_o assume_v nature_n stoop_v so_o low_a and_o submit_v himself_o so_o as_o he_o be_v a_o man_n but_o it_o be_v that_o in_o which_o he_o willing_o submit_v to_o be_v order_v by_o his_o father_n for_o our_o redemption_n and_o salvation_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v say_v we_o shall_v not_o take_v they_o as_o impose_v on_o we_o but_o we_o shall_v set_v our_o shoulder_n to_o they_o and_o cheerful_o submit_v ourselves_o to_o bear_v they_o but_o oh_o the_o tenderness_n of_o man_n to_o suffer_v any_o thing_n for_o christ_n if_o cross_n and_o affliction_n and_o persecution_n come_v upon_o they_o for_o his_o sake_n how_o do_v they_o murmur_v and_o repine_v ah_o my_o beloved_n remember_v the_o grace_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n who_o when_o he_o be_v equal_a to_o god_n he_o humble_v himself_o and_o become_v obedient_a etc._n etc._n and_o will_v you_o grumble_v at_o a_o little_a shame_n a_o little_a trouble_n a_o little_a loss_n of_o outward_a thing_n for_o his_o sake_n oh_o my_o beloved_n learn_v at_o length_n to_o be_v order_v as_o christ_n be_v to_o suffer_v willing_o for_o he_o who_o suffer_v willing_o for_o you_o and_o to_o make_v you_o willing_a to_o it_o i_o shall_v present_v you_o but_o with_o two_o consideration_n 1._o first_o though_o you_o shall_v suffer_v much_o remember_v yet_o the_o time_n of_o suffering_n be_v not_o long_o the_o season_n from_o our_o saviour_n incarnation_n even_o to_o the_o final_a dissolution_n of_o the_o world_n as_o some_o expound_v it_o be_v but_o a_o hour_n as_o the_o apostle_n john_n call_v it_o and_o alas_o what_o be_v our_o life_n but_o as_o it_o be_v a_o little_a minute_n of_o that_o hour_n and_o shall_v we_o be_v so_o facile_a and_o tender_a to_o sink_v under_o so_o short_a a_o suffering_n i_o say_v to_o you_o of_o suffer_v as_o once_o our_o saviour_n christ_n of_o watch_v can_v you_o not_o suffer_v with_o he_o one_o hour_n what_o be_v your_o patience_n out_o so_o soon_o will_v it_o not_o hold_v for_o one_o hour_n be_v you_o so_o quick_o weary_a of_o so_o short_a a_o cross_n oh_o be_v ashamed_a of_o such_o unworthy_a cowardice_n as_o this_o be_v 2._o consider_v if_o you_o suffer_v with_o he_o conceive_v it_o willing_o and_o in_o sincerity_n you_o shall_v also_o reign_v with_o speak_v by_o anticipation_n and_o so_o our_o saviour_n i_o have_v finish_v the_o work_n which_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o to_o do_v i_o be_o about_o it_o and_o i_o shall_v as_o certain_o go_v through_o with_o it_o as_o if_o it_o be_v already_o perfect_a and_o consummate_v other_o conceive_v our_o saviour_n meaning_n to_o be_v only_o this_o i_o have_v finish_v the_o work_n viz._n in_o purpose_n and_o in_o preparation_n in_o that_o i_o have_v lay_v the_o groundwork_n and_o foundation_n of_o it_o i_o have_v assume_v the_o humane_a nature_n i_o have_v preach_v the_o gospel_n free_o i_o have_v by_o my_o reproof_n and_o miracle_n and_o many_o other_o way_n sufficient_o exasperate_v and_o enrage_v the_o jew_n to_o crucify_v i_o and_o so_o to_o make_v a_o end_n of_o this_o business_n and_o consequent_o i_o have_v do_v as_o much_o as_o lie_v in_o i_o to_o finish_v it_o and_o to_o bring_v it_o to_o perfection_n the_o plain_a and_o most_o genuine_a exposition_n as_o it_o show_v to_o i_o be_v that_o of_o calvin_n which_o beza_n and_o some_o other_o after_o he_o have_v rest_v in_o and_o it_o be_v to_o this_o purpose_n i_o have_v finish_v the_o work_n that_o be_v as_o if_o our_o saviour_n christ_n have_v say_v i_o have_v as_o good_a as_o finish_v it_o my_o death_n and_o passion_n be_v at_o hand_n i_o be_o now_o ready_a to_o be_v offer_v up_o so_o that_o my_o work_n be_v upon_o the_o matter_n end_v and_o thus_o because_o the_o consummation_n of_o it_o be_v so_o near_o approach_v he_o mind_v his_o father_n of_o it_o as_o a_o thing_n that_o be_v already_o perfect_o accomplish_v and_o fulfil_v i_o have_v finish_v the_o work_n which_o thou_o give_v i_o to_o do_v well_o then_o my_o brethren_n finish_v it_o he_o do_v you_o see_v he_o plead_v it_o to_o his_o father_n and_o so_o according_o the_o point_n on_o which_o i_o shall_v insist_v be_v this_o doctrine_n that_o jesus_n christ_n do_v not_o do_v his_o work_n by_o half_n but_o he_o go_v through_o with_o the_o business_n that_o be_v commit_v to_o he_o by_o his_o father_n he_o do_v not_o enter_v on_o it_o and_o desist_v again_o he_o do_v not_o give_v it_o over_o when_o he_o have_v begin_v and_o leave_v it_o assertion_n of_o himself_o who_o be_v the_o faithful_a and_o the_o true_a witness_n and_o that_o in_o prayer_n to_o his_o father_n i_o have_v finish_v the_o work_n which_o thou_o give_v i_o to_o do_v so_o that_o we_o need_v no_o other_o testimony_n to_o induce_v we_o to_o believe_v it_o he_o tell_v we_o in_o another_o place_n that_o it_o be_v his_o meat_n and_o drink_n to_o do_v the_o the_o will_n of_o he_o that_o send_v he_o and_o to_o finish_v his_o work_n joh._n 4.34_o he_o be_v about_o the_o work_n of_o the_o conversion_n of_o the_o woman_n of_o samaria_n and_o many_o of_o the_o people_n church_n there_o be_v nothing_o want_v to_o they_o there_o be_v no_o such_o indigency_n or_o fail_v in_o they_o as_o to_o need_v a_o supplement_n or_o a_o supply_n by_o the_o after_o affliction_n of_o martyr_n or_o saint_n no_o my_o belove_a the_o passion_n of_o our_o saviour_n be_v complete_a and_o full_a he_o finish_v it_o himself_o upon_o the_o cross_n it_o be_v the_o last_o word_n that_o he_o speak_v before_o he_o yield_v up_o his_o soul_n into_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n the_o father_n and_o since_o it_o be_v his_o last_o his_o die_a word_n the_o sin_n be_v the_o great_a if_o we_o shall_v not_o believe_v he_o but_o there_o be_v much_o behind_o of_o the_o latter_a sort_n of_o suffering_n of_o christ_n endure_v in_o the_o flesh_n of_o his_o member_n and_o these_o be_v more_o and_o more_o complete_v every_o day_n for_o even_o as_o the_o father_n do_v determine_v the_o number_n and_o measure_n of_o the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n which_o he_o shall_v endure_v in_o his_o natural_a body_n which_o he_o according_o accomplish_v and_o fulfil_v so_o he_o have_v also_o determine_v the_o number_n and_o measure_n of_o the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o mystical_a body_n which_o they_o according_o must_v accomplish_v and_o fulfil_v so_o that_o every_o persecution_n and_o affliction_n that_o any_o of_o his_o member_n suffer_v abate_v the_o number_n and_o the_o tale_n lessen_v the_o heap_n of_o those_o affliction_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n paul_n rejoice_v because_o he_o fill_v up_o that_o which_o be_v behind_o of_o the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o mystical_a body_n this_o comfort_n i_o and_o cheer_v i_o yet_o that_o by_o the_o trial_n and_o the_o trouble_n that_o be_v now_o upon_o i_o i_o make_v up_o the_o remainder_n of_o the_o suffering_n which_o god_n the_o father_n have_v appoint_v christ_n to_o undergo_v although_o not_o in_o himself_o yet_o in_o his_o member_n i_o rejoice_v in_o my_o suffering_n because_o i_o fill_v up_o that_o which_o be_v behind_o of_o the_o affliction_n of_o christ_n in_o my_o flesh_n use_v 1_o now_o be_v it_o so_o that_o jesus_n christ_n do_v not_o do_v his_o work_n

necessary_a to_o be_v know_v of_o god_n the_o father_n whether_o his_o nature_n or_o his_o will_n or_o his_o son_n or_o his_o spirit_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v that_o it_o be_v able_a of_o itself_o without_o addition_n to_o make_v we_o wise_a unto_o salvation_n 2_o tim._n 3.15_o this_o be_v a_o perfect_a and_o a_o full_a discovery_n so_o that_o we_o need_v no_o other_o knowledge_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o bring_v we_o to_o salvation_n then_o that_o which_o be_v reveal_v to_o we_o in_o the_o scripture_n 3._o three_o christ_n make_v a_o full_a discovery_n of_o his_o father_n by_o his_o spirit_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o be_v the_o compliment_n of_o all_o in_o this_o business_n indeed_o there_o be_v a_o full_a discovery_n of_o he_o in_o the_o word_n material_o there_o be_v nothing_o want_v there_o but_o it_o be_v not_o full_a to_o we_o without_o the_o revelation_n of_o the_o spirit_n christ_n show_v his_o father_n there_o in_o all_o his_o glory_n excellency_n overflow_a love_n to_o his_o people_n but_o if_o the_o spirit_n do_v not_o cure_v the_o blindness_n of_o our_o eye_n and_o open_v they_o and_o take_v away_o the_o vail_n that_o be_v upon_o they_o we_o can_v never_o see_v he_o it_o be_v the_o comforter_n the_o holy_a ghost_n that_o teach_v all_o thing_n conceive_v it_o efficacious_o and_o with_o success_n joh._n 14.28_o who_o discovery_n and_o second_o why_o the_o discovery_n which_o he_o make_v be_v such_o a_o absolute_a and_o full_a discovery_n 1._o first_o as_o for_o the_o first_o of_o these_o why_o jesus_n christ_n and_o none_o but_o he_o make_v this_o discovery_n there_o be_v two_o weighty_a reason_n for_o it_o for_o first_o none_o but_o he_o be_v able_a and_o next_o none_o but_o he_o be_v fit_a to_o make_v it_o 1._o first_o none_o but_o jesus_n christ_n be_v able_a to_o make_v this_o full_a discovery_n of_o his_o father_n for_o none_o but_o he_o be_v perfect_o acquaint_v with_o he_o alas_o all_o man_n be_v stranger_n to_o the_o father_n the_o worst_a man_n absolute_o and_o in_o all_o respect_n and_o the_o best_a in_o some_o measure_n and_o all_o the_o knowledge_n which_o any_o soul_n have_v of_o he_o it_o have_v from_o jesus_n christ_n too_o but_o now_o my_o brethren_n jesus_n christ_n have_v the_o full_a knowledge_n of_o his_o father_n he_o do_v not_o know_v he_o outward_o alone_a but_o he_o know_v his_o very_a heart_n and_o the_o secret_n of_o his_o bosom_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v say_v to_o lodge_v there_o and_o so_o to_o be_v the_o only_a possible_a revealer_n of_o the_o father_n to_o the_o world_n no_o man_n have_v see_v god_n at_o any_o time_n the_o only_o beget_v son_n which_o be_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o father_n he_o have_v declare_v he_o joh._n 1.18_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a for_o any_o one_o to_o make_v the_o father_n know_v unless_o he_o know_v he_o now_o this_o be_v proper_a and_o peculiar_a to_o the_o son_n no_o man_n know_v the_o father_n but_o the_o son_n that_o be_v original_o primitive_o of_o himself_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v add_v present_o and_o he_o to_o who_o the_o son_n will_v reveal_v he_o joh._n 11.27_o 2._o second_o as_o none_o but_o christ_n be_v able_a so_o none_o but_o christ_n be_v fit_a to_o manifest_v his_o father_n to_o his_o people_n he_o be_v the_o only_a mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n there_o be_v but_o his_o excellency_n in_o himself_o in_o all_o the_o tenderness_n and_o dearness_n of_o his_o love_n to_o we_o and_o so_o to_o join_v our_o heart_n to_o he_o this_o latter_a be_v especial_o the_o name_n of_o god_n which_o christ_n be_v as_o a_o saviour_n to_o discover_v viz._n his_o attribute_n of_o love_n and_o mercy_n this_o be_v the_o proper_a work_n of_o christ_n indeed_o to_o manifest_v this_o name_n of_o god_n all_o that_o be_v sweet_a and_o lovely_a in_o he_o to_o his_o people_n this_o may_v suffice_v to_o let_v you_o know_v why_o jesus_n christ_n and_o none_o but_o he_o make_v this_o discovery_n of_o the_o father_n to_o his_o people_n we_o have_v but_o one_o thing_n yet_o behind_o why_o the_o discovery_n that_o he_o make_v be_v such_o a_o absolute_a and_o full_a discovery_n i_o give_v you_o but_o two_o reason_n of_o it_o and_o i_o have_v do_v for_o this_o time_n he_o do_v it_o
be_v not_o the_o same_o person_n and_o in_o this_o sense_n it_o be_v impossible_a for_o christ_n disciple_n to_o be_v so_o one_o in_o god_n and_o christ_n as_o god_n and_o christ_n the_o father_n how_o he_o come_v by_o this_o glory_n or_o what_o induce_v the_o father_n to_o bestow_v it_o on_o the_o son_n why_o say_v our_o saviour_n he_o give_v it_o i_o because_o he_o love_v i_o from_o eternity_n father_n i_o will_v that_o they_o etc._n etc._n that_o they_o may_v behold_v the_o glory_n which_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o for_o thou_o have_v love_v i_o mark_v it_o thou_o have_v love_v i_o and_o therefore_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o this_o glory_n that_o they_o may_v behold_v my_o glory_n which_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o for_o thou_o love_v i_o before_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o other_o side_n the_o father_n he_o profess_v his_o transcendent_a love_n to_o christ_n and_o that_o out_o of_o heaven_n itself_o mat._n 3.17_o this_o be_v my_o beloved_a son_n i_o have_v some_o other_o child_n that_o i_o love_v well_o but_o this_o be_v my_o belove_a son_n above_o the_o rest_n take_v notice_n of_o he_o this_o be_v he_o this_o be_v my_o belove_a son_n in_o who_o i_o be_o well_o please_v i_o shall_v not_o stand_v to_o prove_v so_o clear_a a_o truth_n that_o god_n the_o father_n dear_o love_v jesus_n christ_n but_o you_o will_v ask_v i_o why_o do_v god_n the_o father_n qualify_v a_o object_n and_o that_o make_v it_o meet_v for_o love_n proportion_n and_o propriety_n and_o both_o of_o these_o must_v meet_v together_o now_o both_o of_o these_o concur_v in_o christ_n so_o that_o he_o be_v complete_o fit_v for_o his_o father_n love_n for_o there_o be_v proportion_n he_o be_v very_o like_o the_o father_n and_o that_o both_o as_o god_n and_o man._n 1._o as_o god_n true_a believer_n which_o strip_v they_o only_o of_o the_o life_n which_o stand_v in_o union_n of_o the_o body_n and_o the_o soul_n together_o and_o not_o of_o that_o which_o stand_v in_o union_n of_o they_o both_o to_o christ_n be_v style_v a_o rest_n a_o sleep_n in_o scripture_n not_o a_o death_n they_o only_o die_v indeed_o which_o go_v down_o quick_a to_o hell_n as_o the_o prophet_n david_n speak_v who_o be_v cast_v into_o the_o lake_n of_o fire_n and_o brimstone_n which_o be_v the_o second_o death_n who_o after_o many_o pang_n and_o torture_n suffer_v in_o the_o separation_n of_o the_o body_n from_o the_o soul_n be_v separate_v everlasting_o from_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o from_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o power_n be_v it_o so_o that_o the_o life_n which_o jesus_n christ_n etc._n etc._n oh_o how_o do_v it_o concern_v use_v 3_o we_o then_o my_o brethren_n not_o to_o satisfy_v ourselves_o with_o the_o frail_a life_n of_o nature_n which_o may_v expire_v upon_o a_o sudden_a and_o let_v we_o sink_v into_o eternal_a death_n but_o to_o make_v out_o after_o the_o life_n of_o jesus_n christ_n the_o life_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v above_o the_o reach_n and_o power_n of_o death_n which_o will_v not_o fail_v we_o but_o endure_v for_o ever_o we_o all_o have_v spark_n of_o immortality_n within_o we_o and_o we_o have_v thought_n aspire_v to_o eternity_n we_o will_v not_o die_v if_o we_o can_v choose_v oh_o let_v we_o labour_v then_o my_o brethren_n for_o the_o life_n of_o grace_n and_o this_o be_v a_o eternal_a life_n the_o life_n of_o nature_n be_v a_o fade_a thing_n it_o may_v be_v go_v upon_o a_o sudden_a and_o it_o be_v a_o sad_a and_o dreadful_a thing_n for_o a_o eternal_a soul_n to_o have_v nothing_o else_o between_o it_o and_o eternal_a woe_n and_o torture_v but_o such_o a_o fickle_a and_o perishable_a life_n which_o the_o next_o minute_n may_v be_v do_v and_o let_v he_o drop_v away_o to_o hell_n for_o ever_o oh_o how_o sudden_o may_v such_o perish_v and_o come_v to_o a_o fearful_a end_n but_o if_o we_o live_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v a_o last_a and_o abide_v life_n and_o though_o the_o natural_a life_n decay_n and_o though_o the_o body_n die_v and_o rot_v and_o turn_v to_o dust_n and_o putrefaction_n yet_o this_o will_v flourish_v and_o grow_v strong_a still_o till_o it_o be_v perfect_v and_o make_v consummate_v in_o the_o life_n of_o glory_n and_o why_o then_o be_v our_o labour_n and_o endeavour_n whole_o spend_v to_o nourish_v and_o maintain_v this_o transitory_a life_n with_o thing_n that_o perish_v in_o the_o use_n which_o yet_o when_o all_o be_v do_v will_v fail_v and_o come_v to_o dissolution_n but_o never_o strive_v for_o the_o attainment_n of_o that_o life_n which_o be_v eternal_a it_o be_v a_o lamentable_a thing_n my_o brethren_n that_o the_o divine_a intention_n of_o eternal_a mind_n shall_v be_v lay_v out_o on_o nothing_o else_o but_o perishable_a thing_n now_o that_o you_o may_v attain_v this_o last_a and_o endure_a life_n of_o grace_n i_o shall_v but_o give_v you_o two_o or_o three_o direction_n first_o you_o must_v strive_v for_o save_a knowledge_n and_o seek_v to_o get_v your_o mind_n enlighten_v with_o the_o beam_n of_o truth_n the_o life_n of_o holiness_n and_o grace_n consist_v in_o light_n and_o hence_o say_v the_o evangelist_n that_o light_n viz._n the_o light_n of_o save_v knowledge_n from_o the_o son_n of_o god_n reveal_v and_o manifest_v in_o the_o gospel_n be_v the_o life_n of_o man_n john_n 1.4_o and_o in_o the_o word_n immediate_o adjoin_v to_o my_o text_n that_o he_o may_v give_v eternal_a life_n etc._n etc._n and_o this_o be_v life_n eternal_a that_o they_o may_v know_v thou_o the_o only_a true_a god_n and_o jesus_n christ_n who_o thou_o have_v send_v it_o be_v true_a indeed_o there_o may_v be_v light_n of_o knowledge_n without_o any_o life_n of_o grace_n but_o there_o can_v never_o be_v the_o life_n of_o grace_n without_o the_o light_n of_o holy_a knowledge_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o the_o gentile_n say_v they_o be_v stranger_n from_o the_o life_n of_o god_n they_o live_v the_o life_n of_o man_n but_o they_o be_v stranger_n from_o the_o life_n of_o god_n the_o life_n of_o grace_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o ignorance_n and_o darkness_n that_o be_v in_o they_o and_o sure_o if_o we_o ever_o look_v to_o rise_v up_o from_o our_o grave_n of_o sin_n and_o stand_v up_o from_o the_o dead_a we_o must_v have_v light_n from_o jesus_n christ_n as_o the_o apostle_n paul_n insinuate_v eph._n 5.11_o second_o you_o must_v endeavour_v after_o faith_n which_o be_v the_o instrument_n and_o mean_n of_o life_n by_o which_o it_o be_v convey_v from_o christ_n to_o all_o his_o member_n and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o faith_n and_o life_n believe_v and_o live_v be_v join_v together_o the_o one_o as_o the_o fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o the_o other_o whosoever_o live_v and_o believe_v in_o i_o say_v our_o christ_n and_o all_o his_o member_n it_o be_v the_o artery_n by_o which_o his_o spirit_n be_v convey_v into_o we_o and_o therefore_o if_o you_o ever_o look_v to_o live_v you_o must_v labour_v after_o faith_n three_o that_o you_o may_v attain_v to_o save_a knowledge_n and_o to_o justify_v faith_n and_o consequent_o to_o this_o life_n of_o christ_n you_o must_v attend_v upon_o the_o voice_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n for_o that_o be_v a_o effectual_a mean_n when_o god_n be_v please_v to_o concur_v to_o raise_v man_n from_o the_o death_n of_o sin_n and_o to_o make_v they_o live_v to_o god_n and_o this_o be_v clear_o intimate_v to_o we_o by_o our_o saviour_n christ_n himself_o john_n 5.25_o the_o hour_n come_v say_v christ_n there_o when_o the_o dead_a the_o dead_a in_o sin_n shall_v hear_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n conceive_v it_o in_o the_o powerful_a preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o they_o that_o hear_v it_o shall_v live_v and_o hence_o the_o word_n of_o christ_n be_v call_v the_o word_n of_o life_n you_o see_v then_o what_o you_o be_v to_o do_v i_o say_v to_o you_o my_o brethren_n as_o the_o prophet_n to_o the_o jew_n isa_n they_o have_v it_o from_o he_o as_o a_o free_a gift_n he_o do_v not_o sell_v they_o do_v not_o buy_v it_o or_o if_o they_o do_v it_o be_v as_o his_o own_o offer_n be_v without_o money_n and_o without_o price_n they_o have_v it_o from_o he_o out_o of_o bounty_n and_o not_o out_o of_o merit_n or_o desert_n
