scripture_n the_o most_o excellent_a collection_n of_o write_n which_o be_v ever_o extant_a to_o speak_v such_o thing_n which_o have_v cause_v other_o not_o brook_v their_o interpretation_n nor_o be_v it_o do_v not_o in_o god_n who_o be_v always_o sufficient_a for_o all_o kind_n and_o instance_n of_o it_o together_o be_v one_o branch_n of_o humility_n and_o therefore_o god_n may_v be_v say_v in_o a_o most_o proper_a sense_n to_o be_v humble_a the_o high_a do_v not_o think_v any_o office_n of_o goodness_n below_o he_o because_o it_o be_v low_a as_o ofttimes_o proud_a man_n do_v he_o feed_v the_o very_a young_a raven_n when_o they_o cry_v and_o clothe_v the_o lily_n of_o the_o field_n but_o there_o be_v another_o more_o general_a notion_n of_o humility_n which_o may_v most_o true_o be_v attribute_v to_o god_n himself_o and_o that_o be_v not_o to_o esteem_v or_o use_v any_o power_n ultimate_o for_o itself_o as_o to_o be_v fear_v or_o honour_v for_o it_o this_o be_v the_o true_a general_a notion_n of_o humility_n and_o then_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o true_o say_v than_o that_o god_n be_v the_o most_o humble_a of_o all_o being_n he_o do_v nothing_o mere_o and_o ultimate_o for_o the_o ostentation_n and_o exercise_n of_o his_o power_n and_o greatness_n he_o value_v his_o power_n only_o as_o direct_v by_o his_o wisdom_n for_o the_o end_n of_o goodness_n as_o their_o instrument_n of_o do_v good_a his_o power_n over_o all_o his_o creature_n be_v necessary_a for_o their_o government_n and_o for_o the_o most_o happy_a state_n of_o they_o all_o if_o god_n can_v not_o control_v angel_n and_o man_n reward_n and_o punish_v the_o good_a and_o bad_a as_o he_o please_v the_o world_n will_v be_v all_o misery_n and_o confusion_n but_o contrariwise_a pride_n the_o opposite_a to_o humility_n which_o be_v to_o love_n and_o desire_v power_n for_o itself_o a_o affectation_n to_o do_v what_o one_o list_n good_a or_o evil_a to_o have_v all_o other_o will_n and_o action_n at_o our_o command_n to_o strut_v and_o swell_v with_o it_o to_o make_v all_o know_v it_o which_o may_v be_v in_o do_v mischief_n as_o well_o as_o good_a all_o this_o i_o say_v have_v no_o place_n in_o heaven_n it_o dwell_v only_o in_o earth_n and_o hell_n the_o good_a angel_n imitate_v their_o maker_n and_o these_o mighty_a and_o powerful_a spirit_n be_v so_o humble_a as_o to_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o good_a man_n here_o below_o whence_o we_o mortal_n may_v be_v advise_v that_o the_o virtue_n of_o humility_n in_o general_n as_o mean_v a_o thing_n as_o it_o may_v sound_v or_o seem_v and_o that_o branch_n particular_o of_o condescension_n to_o the_o low_a act_n of_o charity_n and_o goodness_n where_o it_o hinder_v not_o great_a be_v a_o imitation_n not_o only_o of_o angel_n but_o of_o god_n almighty_a himself_o but_o to_o return_v to_o our_o observation_n this_o gracious_a condescension_n of_o god_n may_v be_v if_o we_o please_v just_o raise_v by_o the_o distinct_a consideration_n of_o three_o thing_n 1_o that_o he_o vouchsafe_v to_o be_v reconcile_v to_o his_o own_o creature_n there_o be_v infinite_o great_a distance_n between_o god_n and_o the_o noble_a of_o his_o creature_n than_o there_o be_v between_o the_o great_a emperor_n upon_o his_o throne_n and_o the_o most_o despicable_a beggar_n upon_o the_o dunghill_n 2_o to_o the_o mean_a of_o his_o reasonable_a creature_n and_o that_o be_v man._n it_o may_v seem_v more_o decent_a to_o do_v it_o to_o angel_n but_o to_o such_o a_o contemptible_a thing_n as_o man_n be_v great_a indeed_o lord_n what_o be_v man_n that_o thou_o be_v so_o mindful_a of_o he_o and_o the_o son_n of_o man_n that_o thou_o thus_o vifite_a he_o psal_n 8._o 4._o and_o 3_o to_o man_n so_o mean_v a_o creature_n and_o yet_o so_o proud_a and_o wilful_a a_o sinner_n as_o some_o be_v at_o least_o
