duty_n of_o a_o most_o excellent_a nature_n love_n be_v the_o most_o excellent_a of_o all_o grace_n the_o apostle_n rank_n it_o in_o the_o first_o place_n of_o the_o most_o choice_a grace_n the_o great_a whereof_o he_o affirm_v to_o be_v love_n 1_o cor._n 13.13_o therefore_o the_o act_n of_o love_n must_v needs_o be_v the_o most_o excellent_a of_o all_o act_n that_o grace_n which_o be_v of_o the_o most_o excellent_a nature_n and_o which_o have_v the_o strong_a influence_n into_o all_o the_o work_n we_o be_v to_o do_v for_o god_n be_v love_n and_o answerable_o the_o act_n of_o love_n have_v the_o most_o noble_a and_o lively_a operation_n in_o they_o it_o be_v both_o the_o most_o quicken_a and_o most_o mortify_a grace_n have_v least_o of_o self_n most_o of_o god_n in_o it_o faith_n go_v out_o much_o for_o self_n for_o its_o own_o safety_n and_o salvation_n for_o the_o supply_n of_o its_o own_o want_n but_o love_v always_o for_o another_o and_o in_o love_a one_o another_o the_o clear_a pure_a and_o excellent_a act_n of_o love_n do_v shoot_v forth_o because_o there_o often_o appear_v that_o in_o this_o object_n which_o will_v take_v away_o or_o at_o least_o stop_v love_n in_o its_o current_n if_o it_o be_v not_o very_o clear_a pure_a and_o excellent_a there_o be_v always_o infirmity_n there_o at_o least_o if_o not_o corruption_n and_o perhaps_o unkind_a act_n towards_o we_o also_o which_o have_v too_o too_o much_o influence_n upon_o the_o best_a in_o damp_v their_o love_n god_n be_v such_o a_o object_n of_o love_n that_o even_o the_o eye_n of_o nature_n see_v loveliness_n in_o he_o and_o call_v for_o love_n towards_o he_o and_o that_o so_o strong_o that_o it_o hide_v the_o natural_a enmity_n that_o be_v in_o man_n against_o he_o from_o their_o own_o eye_n in_o so_o much_o as_o they_o think_v they_o love_v he_o and_o can_v but_o love_v he_o though_o in_o truth_n they_o hate_v he_o but_o as_o for_o the_o saint_n there_o be_v abundance_n of_o unlovely_a thing_n in_o they_o hardly_o any_o thing_n lovely_a but_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n and_o common_o that_o also_o cover_v with_o much_o unloveliness_n there_o be_v likewise_o usual_o that_o in_o this_o object_n of_o love_n which_o most_o set_v off_o the_o act_n of_o faith_n what_o be_v it_o most_o commend_v the_o act_n of_o faith_n but_o its_o duration_n and_o activity_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o that_o which_o be_v contrary_a and_o dangerous_a to_o it_o as_o when_o god_n distress_v the_o soul_n appear_v as_o a_o enemy_n seem_v even_o to_o kill_v faith_n itself_o take_v away_o all_o visible_a ground_n of_o hope_n in_o he_o for_o faith_n now_o to_o continue_v yea_o and_o act_v still_o in_o strength_n exceed_o commend_v the_o virtue_n and_o excellency_n of_o its_o nature_n why_o love_n have_v this_o trial_n very_o frequent_o it_o have_v still_o almost_o somewhat_o or_o other_o in_o the_o saint_n to_o slacken_v it_o if_o not_o quite_o to_o eat_v it_o out_o much_o unloveliness_n of_o their_o own_o appear_v amid_o a_o little_a loveliness_n of_o grace_n yea_o and_o perhaps_o that_o little_a grace_n hide_v too_o and_o nothing_o but_o corruption_n visible_a so_o that_o love_n towards_o this_o object_n thus_o hold_v on_o be_v a_o excellent_a duty_n indeed_o 2._o it_o be_v a_o comely_a duty_n o_o how_o comely_a be_v it_o for_o brethren_n to_o live_v together_o in_o unity_n to_o love_v and_o cherish_v one_o another_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n which_o much_o adorn_v religion_n obedience_n to_o god_n and_o love_n to_o our_o brethren_n it_o be_v a_o uncomely_a thing_n to_o see_v man_n fall_v out_o because_o they_o be_v of_o one_o nature_n which_o be_v a_o strong_a bond_n of_o agreement_n yea_o strong_a and_o more_o extensive_a than_o be_v in_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o creature_n but_o o_o how_o uncomely_a be_v it_o to_o see_v saint_n fall_v out_o who_o meet_v in_o the_o bond_n of_o so_o excellent_a a_o nature_n as_o they_o be_v to_o see_v the_o world_n hate_v they_o and_o make_v a_o prey_n of_o they_o be_v no_o more_o wonder_n then_o to_o see_v a_o wolf_n persecute_v and_o prey_v upon_o a_o lamb_n yet_o if_o they_o be_v of_o the_o world_n the_o world_n will_v love_v they_o if_o you_o be_v of_o the_o world_n the_o world_n will_v love_v its_o own_o joh._n 15.19_o it_o be_v such_o a_o piece_n of_o uncomeliness_n as_o the_o world_n be_v ashamed_a to_o be_v guilty_a of_o not_o to_o love_v its_o own_o do_v you_o not_o see_v every_o thing_n throughout_o the_o world_n tender_a of_o its_o own_o how_o much_o more_o uncomely_a be_v it_o for_o you_o who_o have_v a_o close_a union_n than_o this_o world_n know_v of_o to_o hate_v one_o another_o every_o nature_n have_v a_o love_n proportionable_a suit_v to_o it_o which_o be_v comely_a and_o the_o contrary_a whereof_o be_v uncomely_a this_o be_v the_o most_o excellent_a nature_n and_o therefore_o have_v the_o high_a love_n suit_v to_o it_o and_o the_o great_a comeliness_n
that_o he_o provide_v food_n for_o the_o creature_n but_o from_o a_o further_a degree_n of_o love_n that_o he_o provide_v redemption_n for_o man_n and_o from_o a_o further_a degree_n of_o love_n yet_o that_o he_o found_v and_o fasten_v the_o union_n and_o universal_a communion_n between_o he_o and_o his_o elect_n in_o christ_n now_o to_o search_v out_o this_o love_n we_o must_v seek_v both_o into_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o what_o kind_n of_o affection_n it_o be_v and_o into_o the_o ground_n of_o it_o whereupon_o it_o be_v fasten_v as_o also_o into_o the_o degree_n and_o strength_n of_o it_o and_o into_o its_o several_a act_n and_o the_o manner_n of_o its_o act_n i._o for_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o we_o know_v after_o our_o manner_n of_o knowledge_n that_o there_o be_v a_o twofold_a love_n a_o natural_a love_n and_o a_o supernatural_a a_o earthly_a and_o a_o heavenly_a the_o natural_a love_n be_v that_o affection_n which_o god_n have_v put_v between_o creature_n from_o some_o suitableness_n among_o they_o there_o be_v a_o earthly_a affection_n which_o god_n have_v place_v in_o this_o earth_n towards_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o earth_n which_o as_o they_o come_v all_o out_o of_o the_o same_o earth_n so_o they_o be_v a_o kin_n and_o bear_v a_o natural_a affection_n to_o one_o another_o though_o in_o this_o hide_a state_n even_o in_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n both_o the_o relation_n and_o affection_n be_v much_o unknown_a there_o be_v a_o universal_a love_n among_o all_o creature_n even_o there_o where_o there_o appear_v a_o antipathy_n from_o some_o general_a likeness_n suitableness_n and_o connaturalness_n among_o they_o but_o this_o love_n be_v more_o especial_o to_o be_v discern_v and_o take_v notice_n of_o among_o creature_n of_o the_o same_o kind_n this_o love_n be_v heighten_v in_o man_n above_o all_o other_o creature_n according_a to_o the_o elevation_n of_o his_o nature_n it_o be_v a_o stamp_n upon_o his_o soul_n suitable_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o his_o soul_n it_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o more_o spiritual_a glue_n in_o he_o as_o his_o nature_n be_v more_o spiritual_a whereas_o it_o be_v but_o a_o corporeal_a glue_n in_o other_o creature_n a_o tincture_n whereof_o still_o remain_v though_o much_o deface_v in_o he_o by_o his_o fall_n as_o all_o his_o other_o excellency_n of_o nature_n be_v the_o supernatural_a love_n be_v that_o which_o grow_v in_o god_n own_o heart_n and_o which_o he_o write_v with_o his_o own_o finger_n on_o the_o heart_n of_o who_o he_o please_v and_o in_o what_o degree_n he_o please_v it_o be_v that_o love_n of_o a_o spiritual_a nature_n which_o flow_v from_o god_n the_o root_n into_o christ_n the_o spiritual_a man_n and_o so_o through_o he_o into_o all_o the_o spiritual_a branch_n which_o be_v ingraft_v into_o and_o grow_v in_o god_n and_o in_o christ_n so_o that_o this_o love_n must_v needs_o be_v of_o a_o more_o excellent_a high_a pure_a nature_n then_o that_o which_o be_v natural_o sow_o or_o can_v natural_o grow_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n there_o be_v all_o kind_n of_o natural_a excellency_n which_o be_v the_o shadow_n of_o the_o spiritual_a in_o man_n natural_o they_o be_v sow_o in_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o first_o adam_n as_o the_o spiritual_a excellency_n be_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o second_o adam_n there_o be_v a_o natural_a faith_n in_o man_n whereby_o man_n be_v able_a to_o believe_v upon_o good_a argument_n lay_v before_o he_o but_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o the_o faith_n this_o be_v not_o the_o heavenly_a gift_n so_o there_o be_v a_o natural_a love_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n whereby_o he_o can_v but_o love_n god_n and_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v lovely_a and_o excellent_a though_o he_o can_v but_o also_o hate_v they_o in_o those_o various_a dispensation_n and_o discovery_n of_o they_o wherein_o god_n still_o cross_v his_o fleshly_a wisdom_n and_o desire_n but_o this_o be_v not_o this_o love_n this_o love_n be_v of_o a_o more_o inward_a of_o a_o more_o full_a of_o a_o more_o substantial_a nature_n then_o that_o which_o grow_v in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n now_o such_o be_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n of_o this_o kind_n of_o nature_n not_o that_o affection_n which_o do_v natural_o belong_v to_o his_o soul_n but_o that_o spiritual_a affection_n which_o come_v into_o his_o heart_n with_o that_o special_a grace_n which_o god_n give_v he_o with_o that_o special_a nature_n which_o god_n breathe_v into_o he_o as_o his_o nature_n be_v different_a from_o the_o nature_n of_o adam_n so_o be_v the_o faith_n of_o it_o and_o so_o be_v the_o love_n of_o it_o every_o thing_n in_o he_o be_v of_o the_o same_o stamp_n with_o his_o nature_n his_o love_n be_v the_o very_a spiritual_a image_n and_o substance_n of_o that_o love_n which_o remain_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o it_o in_o general_a whereby_o it_o be_v distinguish_v from_o all_o thing_n which_o be_v not_o spiritual_a and_o more_o especial_o from_o that_o love_n which_o be_v natural_o plant_v in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n but_o now_o we_o be_v to_o inquire_v into_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o yet_o further_o whereby_o we_o may_v distinguish_v it_o from_o all_o other_o spiritual_a thing_n and_o that_o may_v be_v do_v by_o the_o common_a property_n of_o love_n which_o be_v peculiar_a to_o it_o in_o and_o according_a to_o its_o kind_n as_o by_o its_o desire_n of_o union_n by_o its_o wish_v well_o to_o the_o object_n belove_v by_o its_o readiness_n to_o do_v for_o it_o etc._n etc._n there_o be_v nothing_o desire_v union_n but_o love_n i'faith_o indeed_o unite_v but_o it_o do_v not_o so_o desire_v union_n as_o love_n it_o do_v not_o desire_v that_o kind_n of_o union_n which_o love_n do_v faith_n lay_v hold_v for_o help_v the_o desire_n of_o faith_n be_v help_v but_o the_o desire_n of_o love_n be_v union_n so_o take_v hope_n patience_n humility_n meekness_n etc._n etc._n they_o have_v their_o several_a other_o property_n and_o operation_n agreeable_a to_o their_o nature_n but_o not_o this_o of_o unite_n they_o leave_v this_o to_o love_v and_o nothing_o wish_v well_o to_o the_o object_n but_o love_n faith_n wish_v good_a from_o the_o object_n hope_n expect_v good_a from_o the_o object_n but_o it_o be_v love_n only_o that_o wish_v good_a unto_o it_o and_o it_o be_v love_v only_o that_o act_n for_o it_o that_o act_n for_o the_o good_a of_o it_o faith_n will_v make_v a_o man_n work_n for_o his_o own_o good_a but_o it_o be_v love_v which_o make_v he_o work_v for_o the_o good_a of_o another_o it_o be_v faith_n whereby_o we_o fasten_v on_o god_n for_o our_o own_o happiness_n but_o it_o be_v love_n that_o make_v we_o eye_n his_o glory_n and_o work_v for_o he_o or_o if_o faith_n also_o do_v this_o it_o be_v from_o that_o influence_n that_o love_n have_v upon_o it_o so_o that_o still_o it_o be_v love_n love_v in_o faith_n love_n with_o faith_n love_n by_o faith_n this_o then_o be_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n namely_o that_o spiritual_a affection_n plant_v in_o his_o new_a nature_n beside_o that_o affection_n plant_v in_o he_o as_o a_o man_n whereby_o he_o desire_v union_n with_o and_o wish_v well_o to_o he_o and_o whereby_o he_o be_v ready_a to_o do_v any_o thing_n for_o they_o ii_o as_o touch_v the_o ground_n whereupon_o christ_n love_v they_o the_o ground_n whereupon_o this_o love_n which_o be_v plant_v in_o christ_n be_v draw_v forth_o towards_o they_o they_o be_v these_o 1._o the_o first_o be_v the_o father_n love_n god_n the_o father_n love_v they_o and_o therefore_o christ_n the_o son_n love_v they_o also_o as_o god_n have_v write_v the_o same_o love_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o christ_n as_o be_v in_o his_o own_o so_o it_o go_v forth_o the_o same_o way_n there_o be_v two_o way_n wherein_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n go_v forth_o exceed_o and_o the_o heart_n of_o christ_n follow_v he_o in_o both_o which_o be_v himself_o and_o his_o people_n his_o own_o glory_n and_o his_o people_n welfare_n god_n love_v they_o both_o entire_o and_o christ_n tread_v in_o his_o very_a step_n in_o each_o first_o for_o god_n glory_n it_o be_v the_o main_a thing_n christ_n aim_v at_o in_o in_o his_o heart_n and_o then_o he_o give_v he_o these_o to_o love_n and_o this_o be_v a_o second_o ground_n which_o do_v much_o prevail_v with_o the_o heart_n of_o christ_n and_o will_v sway_v and_o himself_o they_o belong_v to_o the_o father_n and_o they_o belong_v to_o he_o they_o be_v god_n proper_a good_n and_o his_o proper_a good_n thou_o they_o be_v and_o thou_o give_v they_o i_o they_o be_v the_o child_n of_o the_o most_o high_a the_o son_n and_o daughter_n of_o his_o own_o father_n his_o brethren_n and_o sister_n by_o generation_n his_o spouse_n the_o spouse_n which_o his_o father_n prepare_v for_o he_o and_o bring_v he_o the_o spouse_n which_o he_o himself_o purchase_v with_o his_o dear_a blood_n there_o be_v the_o strength_n and_o sweetness_n of_o the_o choice_a relation_n to_o draw_v his_o love_n and_o these_o relation_n set_v off_o too_o with_o all_o the_o commendable_a accent_n that_o can_v be_v now_o we_o know_v relation_n carry_v love_n with_o they_o though_o there_o be_v no_o other_o ground_n of_o love_n beside_o the_o relation_n it_o be_v not_o deformity_n or_o any_o other_o unloveliness_n in_o other_o eye_n which_o can_v eat_v out_o the_o love_n of_o relation_n a_o man_n love_v his_o brother_n his_o sister_n his_o wife_n his_o child_n though_o black_a though_o crooked_a though_o weak_a in_o body_n and_o mind_n and_o this_o be_v another_o ground_n why_o christ_n love_v he_o it_o be_v because_o they_o be_v his_o and_o the_o father_n it_o be_v because_o of_o their_o relation_n to_o the_o father_n and_o he_o 4._o there_o be_v yet_o a_o further_a ground_n why_o christ_n love_v they_o which_o be_v because_o of_o their_o likeness_n to_o himself_o and_o the_o father_n because_o his_o image_n which_o be_v also_o the_o image_n of_o the_o father_n be_v implant_v in_o they_o and_o shall_v be_v perfect_v upon_o they_o likeness_n be_v the_o great_a attractive_a of_o love_n that_o can_v be_v for_o it_o most_o natural_o draw_v it_o forth_o likeness_n in_o nature_n likeness_n in_o feature_n likeness_n in_o disposition_n etc._n etc._n be_v strong_a drawer_n now_o there_o be_v the_o great_a likeness_n in_o the_o saint_n to_o christ_n that_o can_v be_v there_o be_v no_o such_o likeness_n to_o he_o any_o where_o else_o to_o be_v find_v and_o therefore_o no_o such_o love_n can_v go_v forth_o from_o he_o any_o whither_o else_o they_o have_v the_o same_o nature_n the_o same_o lineament_n the_o same_o course_n the_o same_o end_n with_o he_o they_o have_v grace_n for_o grace_n with_o christ_n they_o be_v like_a to_o he_o in_o every_o respect_n there_o be_v not_o one_o thing_n admirable_a in_o he_o but_o there_o be_v the_o likeness_n of_o it_o in_o they_o be_v he_o wise_a holy_a full_a of_o faith_n love_n all_o spiritual_a wisdom_n and_o excellency_n why_o they_o have_v not_o only_o a_o share_n in_o these_o but_o they_o have_v also_o a_o copy_n of_o they_o write_v on_o their_o own_o heart_n do_v he_o descend_v suffer_v die_v etc._n etc._n they_o follow_v he_o in_o the_o same_o step_n they_o take_v the_o same_o course_n with_o he_o and_o be_v change_v and_o perfect_v by_o he_o through_o these_o after_o the_o same_o manner_n as_o he_o be_v change_v and_o perfect_v by_o his_o father_n who_o make_v he_o perfect_a through_o suffering_n 2_o cor._n 3.18_o so_o that_o every_o day_n they_o grow_v more_o like_o he_o it_o be_v no_o marvel_n therefore_o if_o christ_n love_v they_o so_o how_o can_v he_o choose_v they_o be_v already_o so_o far_o in_o and_o grow_v so_o continual_o further_a and_o further_o into_o his_o likeness_n and_o they_o be_v like_o his_o father_n too_o and_o next_o likeness_n to_o ourselves_o the_o image_n of_o our_o parent_n do_v exceed_o take_v we_o in_o any_o and_o it_o take_v christ_n as_o much_o as_o his_o own_o likeness_n because_o he_o love_v the_o image_n of_o his_o father_n as_o well_o as_o himself_o these_o be_v the_o ground_n whereupon_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n be_v draw_v forth_o towards_o the_o saint_n iii_o for_o the_o degree_n and_o strength_n of_o it_o it_o be_v the_o great_a that_o can_v be_v it_o be_v not_o only_o the_o most_o excellent_a kind_n of_o love_n but_o it_o be_v advance_v and_o draw_v forth_o likewise_o to_o the_o utmost_a kind_n of_o degree_n he_o love_v they_o with_o all_o his_o heart_n and_o with_o all_o his_o soul_n great_a love_n there_o can_v be_v then_o christ_n nor_o can_v love_n go_v out_o with_o great_a strength_n and_o therefore_o christ_n when_o he_o will_v express_v how_o he_o will_v have_v we_o love_v our_o brethren_n to_o the_o utmost_a degree_n of_o our_o love_n of_o that_o love_n god_n have_v place_v in_o we_o he_o bid_v we_o love_v one_o another_o as_o he_o have_v love_v we_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n love_n to_o his_o appear_v in_o these_o three_o thing_n in_o his_o wish_v well_o to_o they_o in_o his_o desire_n of_o union_n with_o they_o in_o his_o readiness_n to_o do_v any_o thing_n for_o they_o according_a to_o the_o degree_n and_o strength_n of_o these_o be_v the_o degree_n and_o strength_n of_o love_n for_o these_o as_o they_o flow_v from_o love_n so_o they_o rise_v in_o height_n life_n and_o vigour_n according_a to_o the_o degree_n and_o strength_n of_o love_n 1._o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n love_n appear_v in_o his_o wish_v well_o unto_o they_o we_o ever_o wish_v good_a to_o the_o party_n we_o love_v according_a to_o the_o degree_n of_o love_n we_o bear_v they_o now_o christ_n wish_v to_o his_o the_o great_a good_a that_o can_v be_v look_v what_o ever_o be_v good_a for_o they_o in_o this_o world_n what_o ever_o be_v good_a for_o they_o in_o the_o other_o world_n he_o wish_v unto_o they_o in_o the_o full_a manner_n and_o measure_n there_o be_v three_o thing_n chief_o good_a for_o his_o in_o this_o world_n in_o that_o station_n wherein_o they_o stand_v and_o in_o that_o course_n which_o they_o be_v to_o run_v here_o which_o be_v these_o preservation_n from_o the_o evil_n of_o the_o world_n communion_n with_o their_o god_n and_o to_o joy_n in_o god_n through_o he_o lead_v we_o not_o into_o temptation_n but_o deliver_v we_o from_o evil_a it_o be_v good_a for_o i_o to_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n rejoice_v evermore_o and_o all_o these_o he_o wish_v to_o his_o very_o hearty_o and_o full_o see_v how_o vehement_o he_o urge_v that_o request_n that_o god_n will_v preserve_v they_o from_o the_o evil_n of_o the_o world_n joh._n 17._o he_o urge_v it_o so_o far_o that_o he_o be_v fain_o to_o make_v a_o apology_n for_o it_o that_o it_o they_o in_o the_o bosom_n of_o god_n to_o suck_v in_o and_o enjoy_v all_o that_o be_v to_o be_v enjoy_v there_o when_o he_o have_v fit_v their_o heart_n to_o receive_v god_n even_o the_o fullness_n of_o god_n and_o have_v see_v the_o fullness_n of_o god_n pour_v out_o into_o their_o heart_n and_o do_v himself_o taste_v and_o enjoy_v it_o there_o the_o lord_n can_v never_o rest_v in_o the_o way_n of_o his_o operation_n till_o he_o have_v empty_v himself_o full_o into_o christ_n and_o christ_n can_v never_o rest_v till_o he_o have_v empty_v himself_o with_o all_o that_o fullness_n into_o they_o and_o till_o he_o have_v bring_v they_o into_o himself_o and_o through_o himself_o into_o god_n and_o so_o both_o way_n into_o all_o that_o fullness_n and_o that_o god_n may_v take_v delight_n in_o they_o and_o be_v as_o much_o with_o they_o and_o do_v as_o much_o for_o they_o as_o be_v possible_a in_o this_o time_n and_o day_n of_o separation_n and_o distance_n he_o plant_v water_n and_o cause_v to_o spring_v up_o in_o they_o the_o light_n the_o life_n the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o whatsoever_o else_o god_n delight_v to_o be_v in_o and_o with_o both_o to_o cherish_v with_o his_o presence_n and_o to_o fill_v with_o his_o appearance_n joh._n 17.26_o this_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n wherein_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n love_n discover_v itself_o viz._n in_o wish_v well_o full_a a_o union_n he_o desire_v and_o the_o largeness_n of_o his_o desire_n but_o in_o these_o four_o respect_n 1._o he_o desire_v to_o have_v they_o with_o he_o to_o have_v they_o be_v where_o ever_o he_o be_v if_o there_o be_v a_o person_n who_o we_o can_v never_o endure_v to_o have_v out_o of_o our_o sight_n but_o he_o must_v still_o be_v where_o we_o be_v in_o the_o room_n with_o we_o at_o board_n with_o we_o in_o bed_n with_o we_o if_o we_o can_v never_o abide_v to_o go_v any_o whither_o or_o do_v any_o thing_n without_o that_o person_n every_o one_o who_o see_v this_o will_v conclude_v there_o to_o be_v a_o great_a strength_n of_o affection_n in_o we_o towards_o that_o person_n why_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o christ_n do_v the_o father_n what_o he_o will_v for_o they_o take_v he_o never_o so_o much_o care_n of_o they_o etc._n etc._n it_o will_v not_o serve_v christ_n turn_n it_o will_v not_o satisfy_v christ_n heart_n but_o they_o must_v be_v with_o he_o in_o his_o country_n in_o his_o house_n at_o his_o board_n in_o his_o bed_n they_o must_v walk_v up_o and_o down_o with_o he_o in_o the_o fullness_n of_o the_o father_n and_o this_o little_a momentany_a absence_n of_o he_o from_o they_o it_o be_v mere_o out_o of_o judgement_n know_v it_o to_o be_v good_a both_o for_o himself_o and_o they_o and_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o father_n but_o it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o his_o heart_n can_v do_v to_o bear_v it_o and_o he_o profess_o tell_v his_o father_n it_o must_v not_o be_v so_o always_o joh._n 17.24_o father_n i_o will_v that_o they_o also_o who_o our_o motion_n now_o adays_o and_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o primitive_a christian_n they_o do_v issue_n from_o a_o spring_n we_o go_v about_o to_o force_v out_o we_o with_o artificial_a engine_n they_o have_v love_n kindle_v in_o they_o and_o love_v draw_v forth_o in_o they_o by_o virtue_n of_o the_o same_o life_n which_o kindle_v it_o we_o reason_n love_n into_o our_o heart_n and_o reason_n out_o the_o practice_n of_o it_o and_z alas_o how_o weak_a be_v this_o but_o have_v we_o of_o a_o truth_n love_n enough_o enough_o of_o that_o love_n and_o the_o art_n of_o proportion_v out_o love_n enough_o to_o every_o duty_n we_o shall_v fail_v in_o none_o nor_o complain_v of_o any_o thus_o exceed_o profitable_a to_o ourselves_o be_v love_v exercise_v by_o we_o towards_o the_o brethren_n where_o by_o the_o way_n we_o may_v take_v notice_n of_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n love_n to_o we_o it_o be_v love_n in_o he_o to_o we_o which_o make_v he_o so_o strict_o to_o lay_v this_o stand_v before_o he_o and_o his_o father_n in_o the_o presence_n of_o all_o his_o saint_n and_o angel_n for_o our_o so_o gross_a neglect_n of_o this_o duty_n when_o this_o law_n shall_v be_v read_v the_o figleaf_n wherewith_o we_o now_o so_o cunning_o cover_v the_o evil_a of_o our_o heart_n way_n motion_n and_o action_n from_o our_o own_o eye_n quite_o take_v away_o and_o make_v altogether_o unable_a from_o afford_v any_o shelter_n to_o we_o 2._o it_o may_v occasion_v a_o enquiry_n why_o love_n shall_v be_v so_o barren_a so_o dead_a among_o christian_n so_o backward_o in_o its_o growth_n so_o prone_a to_o decay_v that_o little_a life_n and_o virtue_n which_o it_o have_v among_o we_o once_o where_o be_v it_o i_o shall_v not_o prosecute_v this_o enquiry_n so_o far_o as_o it_o lie_v open_a to_o i_o but_o mention_v only_o these_o two_o cause_n from_o whence_o it_o may_v very_o well_o arise_v 1._o from_o a_o decay_n of_o grace_n in_o we_o from_o our_o decay_n in_o love_n to_o christ_n or_o at_o least_o from_o the_o weakness_n of_o it_o where_o it_o be_v not_o decay_v be_v grace_n strong_a be_v love_n to_o christ_n strong_a we_o can_v not_o choose_v but_o love_v those_o that_o be_v christ_n more_a if_o we_o do_v not_o fail_v in_o love_n towards_o he_o who_o do_v beget_v we_o shall_v better_o love_v those_o who_o be_v beget_v by_o he_o 2._o from_o a_o carelessness_n in_o act_v the_o duty_n we_o be_v not_o careful_a to_o draw_v out_o a_o spiritual_a affection_n and_o a_o natural_a affection_n will_v not_o do_v it_o and_o upon_o spiritual_a ground_n and_o with_o a_o spiritual_a fervency_n and_o in_o a_o spiritual_a manner_n but_o we_o go_v to_o love_v saint_n as_o we_o do_v other_o man_n we_o do_v not_o simple_o love_v grace_n in_o they_o there_o must_v be_v the_o heart_n of_o christ_n concern_v they_o for_o the_o prosecution_n of_o this_o exhortation_n i_o shall_v propound_v some_o few_o motive_n to_o it_o some_o direction_n concern_v it_o and_o
