we_o from_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o first_o he_o show_v we_o in_o this_o place_n how_o christ_n have_v free_v we_o from_o the_o condemn_a power_n of_o sin_n namely_o that_o he_o take_v upon_o he_o our_o nature_n and_o therewithal_o the_o burden_n of_o our_o sin_n have_v condemn_v sin_n in_o his_o bless_a body_n and_o so_o disannul_v it_o that_o it_o have_v no_o power_n to_o condemn_v we_o and_o this_o benefit_n he_o amplify_v show_v that_o by_o no_o other_o mean_n we_o can_v obtain_v it_o for_o where_o without_o christ_n there_o be_v but_o one_o way_n for_o man_n to_o come_v to_o life_n namely_o the_o observance_n of_o the_o law_n he_o let_v we_o see_v it_o be_v impossible_a for_o the_o law_n to_o save_v we_o and_o lest_o it_o shall_v seem_v that_o he_o blame_v the_o law_n he_o subjoin_v that_o this_o impotency_n of_o the_o law_n proceed_v from_o ourselves_o because_o that_o we_o through_o fleshly_a corruption_n that_o be_v in_o we_o can_v fulfil_v that_o righteousness_n which_o the_o law_n require_v now_o the_o impotency_n of_o the_o law_n appear_v in_o these_o two_o thing_n first_o it_o crave_v of_o we_o which_o we_o have_v not_o to_o give_v namely_o perfect_a obedience_n unto_o all_o the_o lord_n commandment_n and_o that_o under_o pain_n of_o death_n which_o albeit_o most_o just_o it_o be_v require_v of_o we_o consider_v that_o by_o creation_n we_o receive_v from_o god_n a_o nature_n so_o holy_a that_o it_o be_v able_a to_o do_v the_o law_n yet_o now_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o depravation_n of_o our_o nature_n draw_v on_o by_o ourselves_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o we_o can_v perform_v it_o second_o the_o law_n can_v not_o give_v that_o unto_o we_o whereof_o we_o stand_v in_o need_n namely_o that_o the_o infinite_a debt_n of_o transgression_n which_o we_o have_v contract_v shall_v be_v forgive_v unto_o we_o this_o i_o say_v the_o law_n can_v not_o do_v for_o the_o law_n command_v obedience_n but_o promise_v not_o pardon_n do_v jesus_n christ_n by_o who_o come_v grace_n and_o life_n have_v do_v unto_o we_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o life_n to_o be_v find_v in_o the_o observance_n of_o the_o law_n it_o be_v impossible_a for_o the_o law_n to_o give_v they_o therefore_o that_o seek_v life_n only_o in_o the_o observance_n thereof_o shall_v never_o find_v it_o again_o the_o apostle_n in_o another_o place_n call_v the_o law_n the_o ministry_n of_o death_n and_o condemnation_n and_o that_o because_o it_o instant_o bind_v man_n under_o death_n for_o every_o transgression_n of_o her_o commandment_n so_o that_o he_o that_o have_v eye_n to_o see_v what_o a_o universal_a rebellion_n of_o nature_n there_o be_v in_o man_n to_o god_n holy_a law_n yea_o what_o imperfection_n and_o discordance_n with_o the_o universal_a be_v this_o error_n that_o it_o have_v overgo_v the_o whole_a posterity_n of_o adam_n nature_n teach_v all_o man_n who_o be_v not_o illuminate_v by_o christ_n to_o seek_v salvation_n in_o their_o own_o deed_n that_o be_v to_o stand_v to_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n but_o the_o supernatural_a doctrine_n of_o the_o evangelist_n teach_v we_o to_o transcend_v nature_n to_o go_v out_o of_o ourselves_o and_o to_o seek_v salvation_n in_o the_o lord_n jesus_n and_o so_o to_o use_v the_o law_n not_o that_o we_o seek_v life_n by_o fulfil_v it_o which_o here_o be_v impossible_a but_o as_o a_o schoolmaster_n to_o lead_v we_o unto_o christ_n in_o who_o we_o have_v remission_n of_o our_o sin_n sanctification_n of_o our_o nature_n acceptance_n of_o our_o imperfect_a obedience_n benefit_n which_o the_o law_n can_v never_o afford_v we_o thus_o you_o see_v it_o be_v impossible_a for_o we_o in_o our_o own_o person_n to_o fulfil_v the_o law_n of_o god_n no_o such_o grace_n be_v give_v from_o above_o as_o i_o show_v you_o before_o or_o if_o we_o can_v yet_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a for_o the_o law_n to_o save_v we_o not_o in_o respect_n of_o any_o desert_n or_o imperfection_n in_o the_o law_n for_o the_o law_n be_v just_a good_a and_o holy_a rom._n 7.12_o but_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n which_o be_v not_o able_a to_o yield_v of_o sin_n rom._n 3._o and_o i_o have_v not_o know_v that_o lust_n have_v be_v sin_n have_v not_o the_o law_n say_v thou_o shall_v not_o lust_n second_o to_o show_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n for_o and_o what_o shall_v be_v leave_v undo_v and_o therefore_o it_o leave_v they_o without_o excuse_n if_o they_o leave_v the_o one_o and_o commit_v the_o other_o second_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o elect_a the_o law_n be_v give_v to_o be_v a_o mean_n by_o the_o sight_n of_o their_o sin_n to_o seek_v out_o a_o saviour_n that_o shall_v deliver_v they_o from_o their_o sin_n and_o in_o this_o respect_n as_o he_o that_o inform_v we_o of_o some_o dangerous_a disease_n do_v tacit_o advise_v we_o to_o seek_v for_o some_o expert_a physician_n so_o be_v the_o law_n say_v to_o be_v our_o schoolmaster_n to_o teach_v we_o by_o the_o manifestation_n of_o our_o sin_n to_o seek_v unto_o christ_n for_o our_o deliverance_n but_o the_o law_n be_v never_o intend_v to_o that_o end_n that_o it_o shall_v justify_v we_o and_o of_o itself_o bring_v we_o to_o eternal_a life_n for_o first_o if_o eternal_a life_n have_v be_v promise_v only_o to_o they_o that_o keep_v the_o law_n than_o the_o promise_n have_v be_v make_v vain_a because_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n to_o perform_v it_o second_o if_o righteousness_n can_v have_v come_v by_o law_n than_o christ_n have_v die_v in_o vain_a because_o it_o be_v superfluous_a for_o he_o to_o die_v for_o we_o when_o as_o we_o may_v procure_v life_n by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v apparent_a that_o by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n no_o flesh_n live_a can_v be_v justify_v three_o for_o hypocritical_a gospeler_n such_o as_o seem_v saint_n in_o ostentation_n that_o they_o may_v play_v the_o devil_n without_o suspicion_n which_o say_v they_o have_v faith_n but_o show_v no_o work_n that_o be_v not_o veil_a with_o hypocrisy_n and_o intend_v to_o wrong_v end_n let_v esayas_n tell_v you_o how_o acceptable_a these_o work_n be_v to_o god_n esay_n 1._o and_o whether_o they_o be_v like_a to_o justify_v they_o before_o god_n or_o not_o for_o the_o lord_n complain_v that_o he_o be_v weary_a of_o they_o that_o his_o soul_n hate_v they_o and_o bid_v they_o to_o bring_v no_o more_o such_o sacrifice_n unto_o he_o four_o for_o the_o true_a christian_n that_o be_v bear_v not_o of_o blood_n nor_o of_o the_o will_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o of_o god_n if_o any_o work_n can_v justify_v it_o must_v needs_o be_v that_o their_o work_n wrought_v in_o they_o and_o through_o they_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n shall_v justify_v they_o and_o yet_o we_o say_v that_o the_o best_a work_n of_o the_o best_a regenerate_a man_n can_v justify_v they_o before_o god_n and_o thus_o we_o prove_v it_o first_o because_o all_o the_o grace_n that_o we_o receive_v in_o this_o life_n be_v but_o in_o part_n give_v unto_o we_o as_o i_o show_v in_o the_o proof_n of_o the_o other_o position_n and_o so_o imperfect_a grace_n not_o that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n work_v imperfect_o but_o that_o he_o mean_v not_o here_o to_o enrich_v we_o with_o any_o grace_n while_o we_o be_v conversant_a with_o sinful_a man_n in_o this_o vale_n of_o misery_n but_o only_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o he_o see_v fit_a to_o bring_v we_o to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o perfection_n where_o that_o which_o be_v in_o part_n shall_v be_v do_v away_o 1_o cor._n 13.10_o and_o therefore_o our_o inherent_a justice_n be_v but_o as_o our_o knowledge_n in_o part_n and_o therefore_o imperfect_a it_o be_v impossible_a
