other_o have_v a_o purpose_n to_o be_v clean_o and_o will_v have_v the_o least_o filth_n about_o he_o discover_v that_o it_o may_v be_v remove_v second_o a_o man_n that_o be_v in_o this_o way_n to_o be_v purge_v begin_v with_o the_o foul_a spot_v first_o and_o those_o which_o be_v most_o conspicuous_a and_o common_o first_o remove_v those_o in_o his_o face_n now_o the_o foul_a and_o most_o note_a defilement_n which_o be_v most_o conspicuous_a and_o consequent_o odious_a unto_o god_n be_v a_o ungodly_a and_o wicked_a heart_n which_o as_o the_o lord_n begin_v his_o wash_n withal_o for_o the_o first_o thing_n he_o do_v in_o the_o conversion_n of_o a_o sinner_n 36._o be_v to_o take_v away_o the_o heart_n of_o stone_n so_o he_o that_o will_v have_v evidence_n of_o his_o cleanness_n must_v begin_v here_o and_o first_o wash_v the_o inside_n so_o the_o holy_a man_n david_n although_o his_o sin_n be_v in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n yet_o to_o be_v sound_o purge_v of_o they_o he_o crave_v a_o clean_a heart_n and_o a_o renew_a spirit_n 51._o and_o thus_o as_o he_o that_o mean_v to_o be_v clean_o begin_v at_o his_o head_n and_o so_o wash_v all_o downward_o so_o the_o pure_a of_o heart_n begin_v at_o the_o heart_n and_o this_o carry_v all_o other_o part_n and_o member_n they_o know_v that_o of_o the_o filthiness_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n the_o latter_a be_v more_o filthy_a and_o therefore_o they_o seek_v first_o to_o be_v renew_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o their_o mind_n and_o to_o wash_v their_o conscience_n from_o dead_a work_n whereas_o those_o that_o mean_v never_o to_o be_v clean_o begin_v as_o it_o be_v at_o their_o foot_n if_o they_o can_v abstain_v from_o murder_n adultery_n drunkenness_n and_o such_o open_a sin_n in_o the_o act_n which_o be_v apparent_a to_o every_o eye_n they_o think_v all_o to_o be_v clean_o and_o well_o because_o they_o never_o see_v the_o hardness_n the_o pride_n and_o foulness_n of_o their_o heart_n but_o even_o this_o conceit_n that_o they_o have_v wash_v their_o hand_n in_o innocence_n neglect_v their_o heart_n be_v a_o brand_n and_o mark_v of_o their_o uncleanness_n and_o impurity_n three_o he_o that_o will_v be_v clean_o proceed_v on_o to_o the_o other_o part_n of_o his_o body_n and_o will_v see_v that_o they_o be_v suitable_a so_o this_o grace_n of_o sanctification_n as_o it_o begin_v in_o the_o mind_n so_o it_o proceed_v to_o work_v in_o all_o the_o member_n it_o be_v careful_a that_o all_o the_o vessel_n be_v preserve_v in_o holiness_n and_o honour_n a_o pure_a heart_n will_v not_o be_v without_o pure_a hand_n chaste_a eye_n a_o order_a tongue_n 4.4_o etc._n etc._n where_o be_v to_o be_v observe_v another_o main_a difference_n between_o the_o clean_a and_o unclean_a the_o former_a endeavour_n to_o cleanse_v themselves_o from_o all_o filthiness_n of_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n 7.1_o and_o to_o grow_v up_o unto_o full_a holiness_n but_o the_o latter_a can_v content_v themselves_o with_o a_o suppose_a goodness_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o yet_o let_v loose_v their_o tongue_n to_o all_o obsene_a and_o lewd_a speech_n and_o open_v their_o eyp_n to_o all_o wander_a and_o lustful_a spectacle_n and_o their_o heart_n think_v no_o ill_a but_o be_v good_a enough_o for_o all_o that_o but_o half_o a_o eye_n can_v discern_v what_o impure_a wretch_n they_o be_v both_z within_z and_o without_o four_o such_o a_o person_n will_v proceed_v on_o to_o his_o garment_n and_o will_v not_o endure_v filth_n or_o spot_n on_o they_o even_o so_o that_o soul_n who_o christ_n purge_v hate_v even_o the_o garment_n spot_v by_o the_o flesh_n even_o all_o occasion_n inducement_n and_o appearance_n of_o evil_a yea_o such_o as_o he_o can_v avoid_v yet_o he_o can_v hate_v whereas_o the_o careless_a and_o slovenly_a christian_a run_v into_o all_o company_n into_o all_o course_n and_o thrust_v himself_o into_o all_o occasion_n of_o sin_n because_o he_o be_v filthy_a he_o care_v not_o to_o be_v filthy_a still_o yea_o and_o to_o foul_a and_o besmear_v all_o that_o come_v in_o his_o company_n five_o the_o sanctify_a person_n use_v all_o good_a mean_n whereby_o he_o may_v become_v clean_o and_o be_v so_o he_o be_v careful_a to_o preserve_v himself_o clean_o so_o long_o as_o he_o can_v for_o 1._o he_o desire_v to_o be_v ever_o sprinkle_v himself_o with_o the_o
