LORD my God 19 Surely * Deu. 30. â— after that I was turned I repented and after that I was instructed I smote upon my thigh I was ashamed yea even confounded because I did bear the reproach of my youth 20 Is Ephraim my dear son is he a pleasant childe for since I spake against him I do earnestly remember him still therefore my bowel †Heb. sound are troubled for him I will surely have mercy upon him saith the LORD 21 Set thee up way-marks make thee high heaps set thine heart toward the high way even the way which thou wentest turn again O virgin of Israel turn again to these thy cities 22 ¶ How long wilt thou go about O thou backsliding daughter for the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth A woman shall compass a man 23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts the God of Israel As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof when I shall bring again their captivity The LORD bless thee O habitation of justice and mountain of holiness 24 And there shall dwell in Judah it self and in all the cities thereof together husbandmen and they that go forth with flocks 25 For I have satiated the weary soul and I have replenished every sorrowful soul 26 Upon this I awaked and beheld and my sleep was sweet unto me 27 ¶ Behold the days come saith the LORD that I will sowe the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and with the seed of beast 28 And it shall come to pass that like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down and to throw down and to destroy and to afflict so will I watch over them to build and to plant saith the LORD 29 * Ezek. â—8 â— In those days they shall say no more The fathers have eaten a sowre grape and the childrens teeth are set on edge 30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity every man that eateth the sowre grape his teeth shall be set on edge 31 ¶ Behold the * Heb. 8. â— days come saith the LORD that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah 32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt which my covenant they brake ‖ Or should I have continued an husband unto them although I was an husband unto them saith the LORD 33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days saith the LORD I will put my law in their inward parts and write it in their hearts * Ch. 24.7 and 20.22 and will be their God and they shall be my people 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour and every man their iniquity I will remember their sin no more 35 ¶ Thus saith the LORD * Gen. 1.16 which giveth the sun for a light by day and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night which spoil the men of the east 29 Their tents and their flocks shall they take away they shall take to themselves their curtains and all their vessels and their camels and they shall cry unto them Fear is on every side 30 ¶ * Ver. 8. Flee †Heb. fâ—it greatly get you far off dwell deep O ye inhabitants of Hazor saith the LORD for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath taken counsel against you and hath conceived a purpose against you 31 Arise get you up unto the ‖ Or that is at case wealthy nation that dwelleth without care saith the LORD which have neither gates nor bars which dwell alone 32 And their camels shall be a booty and the multitude of their cattel a spoil and I will scatter into all winds them that are †Heb. cut off into corners or that have the corners of their hair polled in the utmost corners and I will bring their calamity from all sides thereof saith the LORD 33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons and a desolation for ever there shall no man abide there nor any son of man dwell in it 34 ¶ The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah saying 35 Thus saith the LORD of hosts Behold I will break the bowe of Elam the chief of their might 36 And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven and will scatter them towards all those winds and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come 37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies and before them that seek their life and I will bring evil upon them even my fierce anger saith the LORD and I will send the sword after them till I have consumed them 38 And I will set my throne in Elam and will destroy from thence the king and the princes saith the LORD 39 ¶ But it shall come to pass in the latter days that * Chap. â—â— 47 ver 6. L. 1 9 21 35 The judgement of Babylon 4 17 33 The redemption of Israel THe word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Caldeans †Heb. by the hand of Jeremiah by Jeremiah the prophet 2 Declare ye among the nations and publish and †Heb. lift up set up a standard publish and conceal not say Babylon is taken Bel is confounded Merodach is broken in pieces her idols are confounded her images are broken in pieces 3 For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her which shall make her land desolate and none shall dwell therein they shall remove they shall depart both man and beast 4 ¶ In those days and in that time saith the LORD the children of Israel shall come they and the children of Judah together going and weeping they shall go and seek the LORD their God 5 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward saying Come and let us joyn our selves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten 6 My people hath been lost sheep their shepherds have caused them to go astray they have turned them away on the mountains they have gone from mountain to hill they have forgotten their †Heb. place to liâ— down in resting-place 7 All that found them have devoured them and their adversaries said We offend not because they have sinned against the LORD the habitation of justice even the LORD the hope of their fathers 8 * Isa â—8 20 Chap. 51.6 Rev. 18.4 Remove out of the midst of Babylon and go forth out of the land of the Caldeans and be as the he-goats before the flocks 9 ¶ For lo I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north-countrey and they shall set themselves in aray against her from thence she shall be taken their arrows shall be as of a mighty ‖ Or destroyer expert man none shall return in vain 10 And Caldea shall be a spoil and that spoil her shall be satisfied saith the LORD 11 Because ye were glad because ye rejoyced O ye destroyers of mine heritage because ye are grown †Heb. his or corpulent fat as the heifer at grass and bellow as bulls 12 Your mother shall be sore confounded she that bare you shall be ashamed behold the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness a dry land and a desert 13 Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited but it shall be wholly desolate * Chap. 49.17 every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished and hiss at all her plagues 14 Put your selves in aray against Babylon round about all ye that bend the bowe shoot at her spare no arrows for she hath sinned against the LORD 15 Shout against her round about she hath given her hand her foundations are faln her walls are thrown down for it is the vengeance of the LORD take vengeance upon her as she hath done do unto her 16 Cut off the sower from Babylon and him that handleth the ‖ Or sâ—â—hâ— sickle in the time of harvest for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people and they shall flee every one to his own land 17 ¶ Israel is a scattered sheep the lions have driven him away first the king of Assyria hath devoured him and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones 18 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts the God of Israel Behold I will punish the king of Babylon and his land as I have punished the king of Assyria 19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead 20 In those days and in that time saith the LORD the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for and there shall be none and the sins of Judah and they shall not be found for I will pardon them whom I reserve 21 ¶ Go up against the land ‖ Or of the rebels of Merathaim even against it and against the inhabitants of ‖ Or visitation Pekod waste and utterly destroy after them saith the LORD and do according to all that I have commanded thee 22 A sound of battel is in the land and of great destruction 23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations 24 I have said a snare for thee and thou art also taken O Babylon and thou wast not aware thou art found and also caught because thou hast striven against the LORD 25 The LORD hath opened his armoury and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation for this is the work of the Lord GOD
the waters round about it whose rampart was the sea and her wall was from the sea 9 Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength and it was infinite Put and Lubim were †Heb. in thy help thy helpers 10 Yet was she carried away she went into captivity her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets and they cast lots for her honourable men all her great men were bound in chains 11 Thou also shalt be * Jer. 25.17 drunken thou shalt be hid thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy 12 All thy strong holds shall be like fig-trees with the first-ripe figs if they be shaken they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater 13 Behold thy people in the midst of thee are women the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies the fire shall devour thy bars 14 Draw thee waters for the siege fortifie thy strong holds go into clay and tread the morter make strong the brick-kiln 15 There shall the â—â—re devour thee the sword shall cut thee off it shall eat thee up like the canker-worm make thy self many as the canker-worm make thy self many as the locusts 16 Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven the canker-worm ‖ Or spreadeth himself spoileth and flieth away 17 Thy crowned are as the locusts and thy captains as the great grashoppers which camp in the hedges in the cold day but when the sun ariseth they flee away and their place is not known where they are 18 Thy shepherds slumber O king of Assyria thy ‖ Or valiant ones nobles shall dwell in the dust thy people is scattered upon the mountains and no man gathereth them 19 There is no †Heb. wrinkling healing of thy bruise thy wound is grievous all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thâ—e for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually ¶ HABAKKUK CHAP. I. 1Vnto Habakkuk complaining of the iniquity of the land 5 is shewed the fearful vengeance by the Caldeans 12 He complaineth that vengeance should be executed by them who are far worse THe burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see 2 O LORD how long shall I cry and thou wilt not hear even cry out unto thee of violence and thou wilt not save 3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity and cause me to behold grievance for spoiling and violence are before me and there are that raise up strife and contention 4 Therefore the law is slacked and judgement doth never go forth for the * Job 21.7 Jer. 12.1 wicked doth compass about the righteous therefore ‖ Or wrested wrong judgement proceedeth 5 ¶ * Act. 13.41 Behold ye among the heathen and regard and wonder marvellously for I will work a work in your days which ye will not beleeve though it be told you 6 For lo I raise up the Caldeans that bitter and hasty nation which shall march through the †Heb. breadths breadth of the land to possess the dwelling-places that are not theirs 7 They are terrible and dreadful ‖ Or from them shall proceed the judgement of these and the captivity of these their judgement and their dignity shall proceed of themselves 8 Their hoâ—ses also are swifter then the leopards and are more †Heb. sharp fierce then the * Zeph. 3.3 evening wolves and their hors-men shall spread themselves and their hors-men shall come from far they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat 9 They shall come all for violence ‖ Or the supping up of their faces c. or their faces shall loâ—k toward the east †Heb. the opposition of their faces toward the east their faces shall sup up as the east-wind and they shall gather the captivity as the sand 10 And they shall scoff at the kings and the princes shall be a scorn unto them they shall deride every strong hold for they shall heap dust and taâ—e it 11 Then shall his minde change and he shall pass over and offend imputing this his power unto his god 12 ¶ Art thou not from everlasting O LORD my God mine holy One we shall not die O LORD thou hast ordained them for judgement and O †Heb. rock mighty God thou hast †Heb. founded established them for correct on 13 Thou art of purer eyes then to behold evil and canst not look on ‖ Or grievance iniquity wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherouâ—ly and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous then he 14 And makest men as the fishes of the sea as the ‖ Or moving creeping things that have no ruler over them 15 They take up all of them with the angle they catch them in their net and gather them in their ‖ Or fiâ—â— net drag therefore they rejoyce and are glad 16 Therefore they sacrifice unto their net and burn incense unto their drag because by them their portion is fat and their meat ‖ Or daint◠†Heb. fat plenteous 17 Shall they therefore empty their net and not spare continually to slay the nations CHAP. II. 1Vnto Habakkuk waiting for an answer is shewed that be must wait by faith 5 The judgement upon the Câ—â—â—dâ—an for unsatiableness 9 for covetousness 12 for cruelty 15 for drunkenness 18 and for idolatrâ— I Will * Isa 21.8 stand upon my watch and set me upon the †Heb. fenced place towre and will watch to see what he will say ‖ Or in me unto me and what I shall answer ‖ Or when I am argued with †Heb. upon my reproof of arguing when I am reproved 2 â—nd the LORD answered me and said Write the vision and make it plain upon tables that he may run that readeth it 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time but at the end it shall speak and not lie though it tarry wait for it because it will * Heb. 10.37 surely come it will not tarry 4 Behold his soul whâ—ch is lifted up is not upright in him but the * Joh. 3 36. Rom. 1.17 Gal. 3.11 Hebr. 10.38 just shall live by his faith 5 ¶ ‖ Or How much more Yea also because he transgresseth by wine he is a proud man neither keepeth at home who enlargeth his desire as hell and is as death and cannot be satisfied but gathereth unto him all nations and heapeth unto him all people 6 Shall not all these take up a parable against him and a taunting proverb against him and say ‖ Or Ho â—e Wo to him that increaseth that which is not his how long and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay 7 Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee and awake that shall vex thee and thou shalt be for booties unto them 8 Because thou hast spoiled many nations all
these days I did appear unto you but I did neither eat nor drink but you did see a vision 20 Now therefore give God thanks for I go up to him that sent me but write all things which are done in a book 21 And when they arose they saw him no more 22 Then they confessed the great and wonderful works of God and how the angel of the Lord had appeared unto them CHAP. XIII The thanksgiving unto God which Tobit wrote THen Tobit wrote a prayer of rejoycing and said Blessed be God that liveth for ever and blessed be his kingdom 2 * Deut. 32.39 1 Sam. 2.6 Wisd 16.13 For he doth scourge and hath mercy he leadeth down to hell and bringeth up again neither is there any that can avoid his hand 3 Confess him before the Gentiles ye children of Israel for he hath scattered us among them 4 There declare his greatness and extol him before all the living for he is our Lord and he is the God our father for ever 5 And he will scourge us for our iniquities and will have mercy again and will gather us out of all nations among whom he hath scattered us 6 If you turn to him with your whole heart and with your whole minde and deal uprightly before him then will he turn unto you and will not hide his face from you Therefore see what he will do with you and confess him with your whole mouth and praise the Lord of might and extol the everlasting King In the land of my captivity do I praise him and declare his might and majesty to a sinful ration O ye sinners turn and do justice before him who can tell if he will accept you and have mercy on you 7 I will extol my God and my soul shall praise the king of heaven and shall rejoyce in his greatness 8 Let all men speak and let all praise him for his righteousness 9 O Jerusalem the holy city ‖ Or he will lay a scourge upon the works of thy children he will scourge thee for thy childrens works and will have mercy again on the sons of the righteous 10 Give praise to the Lord for he is good and praise the everlasting King that his tabernacle may be builded in thee again with joy and ‖ Or to make let him make joyful there in thee those that are captives and love in thee for ever those that are miserable 11 Many nations shall come from far to the name of the Lord God with gifts in their hands even gifts to the King of heaven all generations shall praise thee with great joy 12 Cursed are all they which hate thee and blessed shall all be which love thee for ever 13 Rejoâ—ce and be glad for the children of the just for they shall be gathered together and shall bless the Lord of the just 14 O blessed are they which love thee for they shall rejoyce in thy ‖ Or prosperity peace blessed are they which have been sorrowful for all thy scourges for they shall rejoyce for thee when they have seen all thy glory and shall be glad for ever 15 Let my soul bless God the great King 16 For Jerusalem shall be built up with sapphires and emeralds and precious stone thy walls and towers and battlements with pure gold 17 And the streets of Jerusalem shall be paved with beryl and carbuncle and stones of Ophir 18 And all her streets shall say Alleluja and they shall praise him saying Blessed be God which hath extolled it for ever CHAP. XIV 3 Tobit giveth instructions to his son 8 specially to leave Nineve 11 He and his wise die and are buried 12 Tobias removeth to Ecbatane 14 and there died after he had heard of the destruction of Nineve SO Tobit made an end of praising God 2 And he was eight and fifty years old when he lost his sight which was restored to him after eight years and he gave alms and he ‖ Or did more and more fâ—â—r increased in the fear of the Lord God and praised him 3 And when he was very aged he called his son and the six sons of his son and said to him My son take thy children for behold I am aged and am ready to depart out of this life 4 Go into Media my son for I surely beleeve those things which Jonas the prophet spake of Nineve that it shall be overthrown and that for a time peace shall rather be in Media and that our brethren shall lie scattered in the earth from that good land and Jerusalem shall be desolate and the house of God in it shall be burned and shall be desolate for a time 5 * Ezc. 3. â— 6.14 And that again God will have mercy on them and bring them again into the sand where they shall build a temple but not like to the first until the time of that age be fulfilled and afterward they shall return from all places of their captivity and build up Jerusalem gloriously and the house of God shall be built in it ‖ For ever is not in the Romane copy for ever with a glorious building as the prophets have spoken thereof 6 And all nations shall turn and fear the Lord God truly and shall bury their idols 7 So shall all nations praise the Lord and his people shall confess God and the Lord shall exalt his people and all those which love the Lord God in truth and justice shall rejoyce shewing mercy to our brethren 8 And now my son depart out of Nineve because that those things which the prophet Jonas spake shall surely come to pass 9 But keep thou the law and the commandments and shew thy self merciful and just that it may go well with thee 10 And bury me decently and thy mother with me but tarry no longer at Nineve Remember my son how Aman handled Achiacharuâ— that brought him up how out of light he brought him into darkness and how he rewarded him again yet Achiacharus was ‖ Or preserved saved but the other had his reward for he went down into darkness ‖ Jutus readeth Nitzha Manasses gave alms and escaped the snares of death ‖ Rom. which he had set which they had set for him but Aman fell into the snare and perished 11 Wherefore now my son consider what alms doeth and how righteousness doth deliver When he had said these things he gave up the Ghost in the bed being an hundred and eight and fifty years old and ‖ Or. they he buried him honourably 12 And when Anna his mother was dead he buried her with his father but Tobias departed with his wife and children to Ecbatane to Raguel his father in law 13 Where he became old with honour and he buried his father and mother in law honourably and he ‖ Or. possissed inherited their substance and his father Tobits 14 And he died at Ecbatane in Media being an hundred and seven and twenty years
saw them they took up their weapons and went out of the city to the top of the hill and every man that used a sling kept them from coming up by casting of stones against them 13 Nevertheless having gotten privily under the hill they bound Achior and cast him down and left him at the foot of the hill and returned to their lord 14 But the Israelites descended from their city and came unto him and loosed him and brought him into Bethulia and presented him to the governours of the city 15 Which were in those days Ozias the son of Micha of the tribe of Simeon and Chabris the son of Gothoniel and Charmis the son of Melchiel 16 And they called together all the ancients of the city and all their youth ran together and their women to the assembly and they set Achior in the midst of all their people Then Ozias asked him of that which was done 17 And he answered and declared unto them the words of the council of Holofernes and all the words that he had spoken in the midst of the princes of Assur and whatsoever Holofernes had spoken proudly against the house of Israel 18 Then the people fell down and worshipped God and cried unto God saying 19 O Lord God of heaven behold their pride and pity the low estate of our nation and look upon the face of those that are sanctified unto thee this day 20 Then they comforted Achior and praised him greatly 21 And Ozias took him out of the assembly unto his house and made a feast to the elders and they called on the God of Israel all that night for help CHAP. VII 1 Holofernes besiegeth Bethulia 7 and stoppeth the water from them 22 They faint and murmure against the governours 30 who promise to yeeld within five days THe next day Holofernes commanded all his army and all his people which were come to take his part that they should remove their camp against Bethulia to take afore-hand the ascents of the hill-countrey and to make war against the children of Israel 2 Then their strong men removed their camps in that day and the army of the men of war was an hundred and seventy thousand footmen and twelve thousand hors-men beside the baggage and other men that were afoot amongst them a very great multitude 3 And they camped in the valley near unto Bethulia by the fountain and they spread themselves in breadth ‖ from Dothaim Junius over Dothaim even to Belmaim and in length from Bethulia unto †Gr. bean-field Cyamon which is over against Esdraelom 4 Now the children of Israel when they saw the multitude of them were greatly troubled and said every one to his neighbour Now will these men lick up the face of the earth for neither the high mountains nor the valleys nor the hills are able to bear their weight 5 Then every man took up his weapons of war and when they had kindled fires upon their towres they remained and watched all that night 6 But in the second day Holofernes brought forth all his hors-men in the sight of the children of Israel which were in Bethulia 7 And viewed the passages up to the city and came to the fountains of their waters and took them and set garisons of men of war over them and he himself removed towards his people 8 Then came unto him all the chief of the children of Esau and all the governours of the people of Moab and the captains of the sea-coast and said 9 Let our lord now hear a word that there be not an overthrow in thine army 10 For this people of the children of Israel do not trust in their spears but in the height of the mountains wherein they dwell because it is not easie to come up to the tops of their mountains 11 Now therefore my lord fight not against them in battel-aray and there shall not so much as one man of thy people perish 12 Remain in thy camp and keep all the men of thine army and let thy servants get into their hands the fountain of water which issueth forth of the foot of the mountain 13 For all the inhabitants of Bethulia have their water thence so shall thirst kill them and they shall give up their city and we and our people shall go up to the tops of the mountains that are near and will camp upon them to watch that none go out of the city 14 So they and their wives and their children shall be consumed with famine and before the sword come against them they shall be overthrown in the streets where they dwell 15 Thus shalt thou render them an evil reward because they rebelled and met not thy person peaceably 16 And these words pleased Holofernes and all his servants and he appointed to do as they had spoken 17 So the camp of the children of Ammon departed and with them five thousand of the Assyrians and they pitched in the valley and took the waters and the fountains of the waters of the children of Israel 18 Then the children of Esau went up with the children of Ammon and camped in the hill-countrey over against Dothaim and they sent some of them toward the south and toward the east over against Ekrebel which is near unto Chusi that is upon the brook Mochmur and the rest of the army of the Assyrians camped in the plain and covered the face of the whole land and their tents and carriages were pitched to a very great multitude 19 Then the children of Israel cried unto the Lord their God because their heart failed for all their enemies had compassed them round about and there was no way to escape out from among them 20 Thus all the company of Assur remained about them both their footmen chariots and hori-men four and thirty days so that all their vessels of water failed all the inhabitants of Bethulia 21 And the ‖ Or pitâ— cisterns were emptied and they had not water to drink their fill for one day for they gave them drink by measure 22 Therefore their young children were out of heart and their women and young men fainted for thirst and fell down in the streets of the city and by the passages of the gates and there was no longer any strength in them 23 Then all the people assembled to Ozias and to the chief of the city both young men and women and children and cried with a loud voice and said before all the elders 24 God be * Exod. 5. â—â— judge between us and you for you have done us great injury in that you have not required peace of the children of Assur 25 For now we have no helper but God hath sold us into their hands that we should be thrown down before them with thirst and great destruction 26 Now therefore call them unto you and deliver the whole city for a spoil to the people of Holofernes and to all his army 27 For it is better for us
hour so great riches is come to nought And every ship-master and all the company in ships and sailors and as many as trade by sea stood afar off 18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning saying What city is like unto this great city 19 And they cast duâ—t on their heads and cried weeping and wailing saying Alas alas that great city wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness for in one hour is she made desolate 20 Rejoyce over her thou heaven and ye holy apostles and prophets for God hath avenged you on her 21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great milstone and cast it into the sea saying Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down and shall be found no more at all 22 And the voice of harpers and musicians and of pipers and trumpeters shall be heard no more at all in thee and no craftsman of whatsoever craft he be shall be sound any more in thee and the sound of a milstone shall be heard no more at all in thee 23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee for thy merchants were the great men of the earth for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived 24 And in her was found the bloud of prophets and of saints and of all that were slain upon the earth CHAP. XIX 1 God is praised in heaven for judging the great whore and avenging the bloud of his saints 7 The marriage of the Lamb. 10 The angel will not be worshipped 17 The fowls called to the great slaughter ANd after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven saying Alleluia Salvation and glory and honour and power unto the Lord our God 2 For true and righteous are his judgements for he hath judged the great whore which did corrupt the earth with her sâ—rnication and hath avenged the bloud of his servants at her hand 3 And again they said Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever 4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne saying Amen Alleluia 5 And a voice came out of the throne saying Praise our God all ye his servants and ye that fear him both small and great 6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude and as the voice of many waters and as the voice of mighty thundrings saying Alleluia for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth 7 Let us be glad and rejoyce and give honour to him for the marriage of the Lamb is come and his wife hath made her self ready 8 And to her was granted that she should be arayed in fine linen clean and white for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints 9 And he saith unto me Write * Mat. 22.2 Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage-supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me These are the true sayings of God 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him and he said unto me * Chap. 22 9. See thou do it not I am thy fellow-servant and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus worship God for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophesie 11 And I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse and he that sat upon him was called faithful and true and in righteousness he doth judge and make war 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire and on his head were many crowns and he had a name written that no man knew but he himself 13 * Isa 63.2 And he was clothed with a vesture dipt in bloud and his name is called The Word of God 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses clothed in fine linen white and clean 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword that with it he should smite the nations and he shall rule them with a rod of iron and he treadeth the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written * Chap. 17.14 KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun and he cried with a loud voice saying to all the fowls that flie in the midst of heaven Come and gather your selves together unto the supper of the great God 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of captains and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of them that sit on them and the flesh of all men both free and bond both small and great 19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse and against his army 20 And the beast was taken and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast and them that worshipped his image These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone 21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse which sword proceeded out of his mouth and all the fowls were filled with their flesh CHAP. XX. 2 Satan bound for a thousand years 5 The first resurrection 6 they blessed that have part therein 7 Satan let loose again 8 God and Magog 10 The devil cast into the lake of fire and brimstone 12 The last and general resurrection ANd I saw an angel come down from heaven having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand 2 And he laid hold on the dragon that old serpent which is the devil and Satan and bound him a thousand years 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal upon him that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years should be fulfilled and after that he must be loosed a little season 4 And I saw thrones and they sat upon them and judgement was given unto them and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the word of God and which had not worshipped the beast neither his image neither had received his mark upon their forcheads or in their hands and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished This is the first resurrection 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection on such the second death hath no power but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years 7 And when the thousand years are expired Satan shall be loosed out of his prison 8
