mount_v above_o all_o present_a obstacle_n use_n the_o use_n now_o when_o we_o hear_v of_o these_o thing_n let_v we_o not_o measure_v his_o power_n in_o our_o distress_n according_a to_o the_o order_n of_o nature_n but_o by_o faith_n let_v we_o fix_v our_o eye_n above_o all_o thing_n visible_a and_o comprehensible_a moreover_o lest_o these_o poor_a banish_a orphan_n shall_v lose_v all_o hope_n of_o god_n everlasting_a favour_n in_o see_v themselves_o thus_o reject_v and_o despise_v of_o all_o isaiah_n bring_v they_o to_o the_o remembrance_n of_o their_o adoption_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v chap._n 29.23_o but_o of_o regeneration_n or_o adoption_n by_o which_o god_n separate_v his_o church_n from_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o world_n and_o from_o all_o the_o remainder_n of_o it_o let_v no_o man_n be_v so_o bold_a then_o as_o to_o attribute_v this_o work_n either_o to_o himself_o or_o to_o the_o merit_n of_o man_n but_o let_v we_o from_o this_o place_n learn_v to_o ascribe_v so_o excellent_a a_o benefit_n whole_o and_o only_o to_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n they_o shall_v set_v forth_o my_o
gentile_n be_v not_o cover_v with_o a_o cloud_n of_o misery_n while_o the_o jew_n in_o the_o mean_a while_o enjoy_v their_o ease_n see_v then_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o church_n be_v separate_v from_o the_o state_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n the_o benefit_n which_o isaiah_n possess_v the_o church_n of_o in_o this_o place_n be_v spiritual_a as_o also_o this_o brightness_n which_o he_o brightness_n that_o be_v the_o elect_a of_o god_n whence_o it_o follow_v that_o it_o be_v no_o common_a or_o natural_a gift_n but_o such_o a_o one_o as_o with_o which_o the_o lord_n supply_v the_o common_a defect_n of_o man_n nature_n and_o hereby_o also_o we_o perceive_v that_o there_o be_v never_o any_o spark_n of_o true_a light_n church_n no_o light_n out_o of_o the_o church_n but_o in_o the_o church_n for_o all_o man_n beside_o be_v enwrap_v with_o darkness_n albeit_o they_o think_v to_o be_v in_o the_o light_n and_o that_o they_o have_v a_o great_a splendour_n neither_o can_v they_o be_v deliver_v out_o of_o this_o darkness_n but_o by_o the_o light_n of_o the_o gospel_n he_o add_v the_o word_n glory_n for_o after_o the_o lord_n have_v once_o receive_v we_o into_o his_o favour_n he_o so_o continue_v the_o same_o unto_o we_o that_o his_o benefit_n do_v daily_o more_o and_o more_o flow_v in_o upon_o we_o with_o great_a increase_v verse_n 3._o and_o the_o gentile_n shall_v walk_v in_o thy_o light_n and_o king_n at_o the_o brightness_n of_o thy_o rise_n up_o follow_v a_o confirmation_n in_o this_o and_o the_o verse_n follow_v the_o prophet_n now_o confirm_v that_o which_o we_o be_v say_v to_o wit_n that_o man_n have_v no_o light_n of_o their_o own_o but_o that_o whereby_o the_o lord_n enlighten_v they_o through_o his_o word_n all_o will_v confess_v so_o much_o the_o lord_n enlightnes_n by_o his_o free_a grace_n that_o he_o may_v exempt_v they_o out_o of_o the_o common_a rank_n of_o other_o man_n now_o this_o be_v do_v by_o christ_n who_o be_v call_v the_o before_o for_o in_o that_o he_o make_v this_o light_a proper_a to_o one_o people_n he_o show_v that_o the_o world_n can_v not_o otherwise_o be_v enlighten_v nor_o attain_v to_o the_o participation_n of_o this_o benefit_n but_o in_o seek_v this_o light_n in_o that_o word_n which_o come_v forth_o of_o judea_n and_o be_v hear_v in_o jerusalem_n where_o the_o lamp_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v kindle_v and_o from_o whence_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n cast_v his_o beam_n that_o thence_o he_o may_v afterward_o enlighten_v all_o the_o habitable_a corner_n and_o quarter_n of_o the_o earth_n as_o in_o chap._n 2.3_o we_o have_v see_v that_o the_o law_n go_v forth_o of_o zion_n there_o be_v no_o light_n then_o but_o in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o prophet_n so_o that_o whosoever_o they_o be_v that_o recoil_v back_o from_o it_o they_o false_o brag_v of_o walk_v in_o this_o light_n by_o the_o brightness_n of_o thy_o rise_n up_o he_o allude_v to_o the_o break_n of_o day_n for_o as_o the_o morning_n star_n begin_v the_o day_n by_o strike_v through_o the_o heaven_n only_o and_o forthwith_o the_o sun_n shine_v over_o all_o the_o world_n so_o the_o break_n of_o day_n begin_v first_o in_o judea_n whence_o the_o light_n arise_v and_o spread_v itself_o throughout_o the_o whole_a world_n for_o there_o be_v no_o corner_n of_o it_o which_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o enlighten_v with_o this_o light_n he_o mention_n king_n person_n this_o light_n belong_v as_o well_o to_o king_n as_o to_o common_a person_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o imagine_v this_o light_n belong_v to_o the_o common_a people_n only_o but_o to_o prince_n and_o great_a lord_n who_o otherwise_o do_v much_o please_v themselves_o in_o their_o dignity_n true_o the_o honour_n which_o he_o here_o attribute_n to_o the_o church_n be_v exceed_o great_a see_v her_o brightness_n shall_v be_v so_o glorious_a that_o it_o shall_v draw_v unto_o she_o christ_n as_o the_o moon_n draw_v her_o light_n from_o the_o sun_n so_o the_o church_n borrow_v her_o light_n from_o christ_n king_n and_o nation_n he_o call_v it_o the_o church_n light_n not_o because_o she_o have_v any_o light_n of_o herself_o but_o in_o regard_n she_o borrow_v it_o from_o christ_n as_o the_o moon_n take_v her_o light_n from_o the_o sun_n verse_n 4._o lift_v up_o thy_o eye_n round_o about_o and_o behold_v all_o these_o be_v gather_v and_o come_v to_o thou_o thy_o son_n shall_v come_v from_o far_o and_o thy_o daughter_n shall_v be_v nourish_v at_o thy_o side_n by_o many_o word_n he_o confirm_v this_o promise_n touch_v the_o restauration_n of_o the_o church_n which_o seem_v a_o thing_n altogether_o incredible_a and_o therefore_o be_v a_o matter_n hard_a to_o be_v beat_v into_o the_o head_n of_o the_o jew_n in_o a_o estate_n wherein_o thing_n be_v so_o perplex_v and_o confuse_a for_o than_o none_o but_o the_o kingdom_n of_o judah_n stand_v which_o daily_o decay_v till_o at_o last_o it_o fall_v flat_a to_o the_o ground_n afterward_o when_o the_o people_n be_v carry_v away_o captive_a all_o thing_n grow_v so_o desperate_a in_o these_o horrible_a scatter_n and_o woeful_a ruin_n that_o as_o it_o seem_v the_o church_n be_v utter_o abolish_v it_o be_v needful_a therefore_o that_o this_o doctrine_n shall_v be_v many_o way_n confirm_v that_o man_n mind_n which_o of_o themselves_o be_v too_o much_o incline_v by_o nature_n to_o distrust_n distrust_v man_n incline_v overmuch_o by_o nature_n to_o distrust_v may_v no_o long_o remain_v entangle_v with_o doubt_n for_o this_o cause_n then_o he_o bring_v the_o jew_n as_o it_o be_v to_z the_o thing_n do_v notwithstanding_o it_o be_v yet_o far_o off_o to_o the_o end_n they_o may_v assure_v themselves_o no_o less_o of_o the_o accomplishment_n thereof_o then_o if_o the_o thing_n be_v already_o effect_v before_o their_o eye_n now_o he_o command_v the_o faithful_a to_o lift_v up_o their_o eye_n on_o high_a that_o be_v to_o say_v above_o all_o humane_a thought_n for_o while_o we_o remain_v fix_v to_o outward_a appearance_n we_o can_v savour_v the_o fruit_n of_o these_o promise_n he_o add_v round_o about_o that_o they_o may_v certain_o know_v the_o people_n shall_v not_o come_v from_o one_o nation_n alone_o but_o from_o all_o part_n to_o
that_o the_o faithful_a may_v with_o the_o more_o cheerfulness_n of_o heart_n wait_v for_o this_o promise_a joy_n but_o all_o the_o difficulty_n be_v to_o know_v of_o what_o enemy_n he_o speak_v for_o we_o may_v understand_v this_o place_n of_o the_o babylonian_n by_o who_o ruin_n god_n deliver_v his_o church_n it_o may_v also_o be_v apply_v to_o the_o other_o enemy_n who_o be_v entertain_v in_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o you_o shall_v hear_v a_o more_o horrible_a voice_n and_o yet_o he_o forthwith_o mitigate_v his_o speech_n lest_o this_o terror_n shall_v discourage_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n the_o sum_n sum_n the_o sum_n be_v that_o the_o wicked_a rejoice_n in_o vain_a when_o they_o oppose_v their_o rebellion_n against_o god_n judgement_n why_o so_o because_o they_o shall_v her_o pain_n come_v she_o be_v deliver_v of_o a_o man_n child_n wicked_a god_n provide_v for_o the_o safety_n of_o his_o child_n while_o he_o chastii_v the_o wicked_a the_o prophet_n have_v before_o comfort_v the_o faithful_a to_o the_o end_n the_o arrogancy_n and_o pride_n of_o their_o enemy_n with_o which_o they_o shall_v be_v afflict_v may_v not_o astonish_v they_o and_o after_o that_o have_v command_v they_o to_o wait_v constant_o till_o the_o come_n of_o the_o lord_n now_o he_o add_v therewithal_o that_o the_o wicked_a shall_v be_v so_o punish_v that_o yet_o god_n in_o the_o mean_a while_n will_v provide_v for_o the_o safety_n of_o his_o choose_a neither_o speak_v he_o only_o of_o some_o one_o or_o two_o man_n but_o of_o the_o whole_a church_n which_o he_o compare_v to_o a_o woman_n which_o similitude_n he_o have_v use_v heretofore_o for_o the_o lord_n special_a meaning_n be_v to_o gathet_n we_o into_o a_o body_n wherein_o we_o may_v have_v the_o testimony_n of_o our_o adoption_n as_o also_o to_o acknowledge_v he_o for_o our_o father_n and_o that_o we_o may_v be_v nourish_v up_o in_o the_o church_n as_o in_o the_o lap_n of_o our_o mother_n this_o similitude_n therefore_o of_o a_o mother_n be_v very_o apt_a for_o it_o signify_v that_o the_o church_n shall_v be_v so_o restore_v that_o she_o shall_v have_v a_o large_a and_o ample_a offspring_n though_o for_o a_o time_n she_o be_v repute_v for_o a_o widow_n and_o barren_a and_o he_o repeat_v the_o sentence_n again_o which_o he_o use_v heretofore_o but_o now_o he_o express_v somewhat_o more_o namely_o that_o this_o work_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v sudden_a and_o unexpected_a for_o he_o withdraw_v the_o faithful_a from_o all_o carnal_a conceit_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o judge_v of_o the_o restauration_n of_o the_o church_n according_a to_o humane_a reason_n woman_n be_v wont_a to_o bear_v their_o child_n the_o space_n of_o nine_o month_n in_o their_o womb_n then_o at_o last_o they_o bring_v they_o forth_o with_o great_a pain_n but_o the_o lord_n have_v another_o way_n in_o beget_v of_o his_o child_n it_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v say_v he_o that_o the_o fruit_n shall_v come_v into_o the_o world_n before_o it_o can_v be_v either_o perceive_v or_o feel_v by_o any_o pain_n and_o that_o be_v the_o cause_n also_o why_o he_o attribute_n the_o whole_a praise_n thereof_o unto_o himself_o in_o regard_n that_o such_o a_o miracle_n far_o surpass_v all_o the_o industry_n of_o man_n now_o he_o speak_v especial_o of_o a_o man_n child_n to_o set_v forth_o the_o courage_n and_o agility_n of_o these_o child_n for_o his_o meaning_n hereby_o be_v that_o such_o a_o race_n shall_v be_v of_o a_o noble_a kind_n and_o not_o delicate_a or_o effeminate_a as_o we_o also_o know_v that_o the_o faithful_a be_v so_o regenerate_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n that_o they_o finish_v their_o course_n with_o a_o invincible_a courage_n and_o in_o this_o sense_n saint_n paul_n say_v that_o they_o have_v not_o receive_v the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n to_o fear_v again_o etc._n etc._n rom._n 8.15_o verse_n 8._o who_o have_v hear_v such_o a_o thing_n who_o have_v see_v such_o thing_n shall_v the_o earth_n be_v bring_v forth_o in_o one_o day_n or_o shall_v a_o nation_n be_v bear_v at_o once_o for_o as_o soon_o as_o zion_n travail_v she_o bring_v forth_o child_n he_o extol_v the_o greatness_n of_o this_o work_n whereof_o he_o speak_v in_o the_o former_a verse_n for_o his_o meaning_n be_v that_o the_o restauration_n of_o the_o church_n shall_v be_v admirable_a and_o restauration_n of_o the_o church_n shall_v be_v perfect_v by_o and_o by_o for_o the_o advancement_n thereof_o be_v tedious_a and_o diverse_a yea_o very_a slow_a in_o the_o judgement_n of_o our_o the_o church_n bring_v forth_o when_o she_o be_v not_o judge_v to_o be_v with_o child_n before_o nay_o which_o more_o be_v while_o she_o be_v think_v to_o be_v barren_a she_o be_v make_v fruitful_a by_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o such_o wise_a that_o we_o admire_v at_o the_o thing_n after_o it_o be_v come_v to_o pass_v in_o respect_n it_o seem_v incredible_a to_o we_o before_o these_o thing_n be_v in_o part_n accomplish_v when_o the_o people_n return_v out_o of_o babylon_n but_o we_o have_v a_o much_o more_o evident_a proof_n of_o it_o in_o the_o gospel_n after_o the_o pprophecy_n for_o since_o thirty_o year_n past_o that_o the_o gospel_n have_v be_v preach_v how_o many_o child_n have_v the_o church_n bear_v have_v not_o the_o lord_n now_o troop_n of_o they_o
