also_o declare_v in_o that_o he_o fall_v down_o to_o the_o earth_n upon_o his_o face_n and_o pray_v with_o the_o voice_n and_o word_n god_n have_v no_o need_n of_o our_o prayer_n but_o unto_o we_o be_v nothing_o more_o profitable_a and_o better_a than_o oft_o and_o fervent_o to_o pray_v and_o the_o great_a the_o adversity_n be_v the_o more_o ardent_a and_o earnest_n shall_v the_o prayer_n be_v as_o we_o see_v here_o in_o christ_n our_o head_n who_o passion_n be_v very_o great_a in_o body_n and_o in_o mind_n for_o the_o which_o cause_n also_o as_o a_o very_a true_a man_n he_o show_v the_o fame_n his_o passion_n and_o heaviness_n to_o his_o disciple_n the_o strong_a of_o all_o be_v weak_a and_o the_o comforter_n of_o all_o heart_n have_v need_n of_o comfort_n himself_o he_o that_o expel_v all_o terror_n and_o fear_n do_v himself_o fear_n and_o tremble_v but_o all_o this_o come_v to_o pass_v for_o our_o learning_n that_o when_o we_o be_v in_o temptation_n we_o shall_v not_o doubt_v in_o the_o help_n of_o god_n and_o that_o none_o of_o we_o be_v in_o danger_n and_o adversity_n and_o feel_v himself_o loath_a to_o suffer_v or_o pensive_a and_o slow_a to_o tame_v the_o motion_n and_o wickedness_n of_o the_o flesh_n shall_v therefore_o shrink_v and_o be_v faint_a heart_a but_o with_o a_o constant_a faith_n to_o resort_v unto_o god_n complain_v to_o he_o of_o his_o trouble_n with_o hearty_a prayer_n that_o he_o will_v bring_v the_o hard_a and_o painful_a beginning_n to_o a_o bless_a and_o joyful_a end_n that_o in_o all_o adversity_n we_o may_v consider_v as_o well_o the_o excellent_a and_o great_a fruit_n which_o proceed_v thereof_o as_o also_o the_o gracious_a good_a will_n of_o our_o heavenly_a father_n to_o who_o we_o ought_v whole_o and_o perfect_o to_o give_v over_o and_o offer_v up_o ourselves_o that_o neither_o through_o the_o multitude_n of_o sin_n neither_o through_o the_o greatness_n of_o adversity_n we_o despair_v nor_o fall_v away_o but_o with_o his_o help_n and_o assistance_n manful_o to_o go_v through_o iesus_n come_v again_o to_o his_o disciple_n and_o find_v they_o sleep_v then_o say_v he_o unto_o peter_n simon_n sleep_v thou_o can_v thou_o not_o watch_v with_o i_o one_o hour_n watch_v you_o and_o pray_v that_o you_o enter_v not_o into_o temptation_n the_o spirit_n be_v willing_a but_o the_o flesh_n be_v weak_a we_o ourselves_o willing_a to_o expel_v from_o we_o all_o pride_n and_o presumptuousnes_n teach_v we_o to_o be_v low_o mind_v and_o humble_a to_o be_v ever_o watch_v &_o with_o continual_a prayer_n to_o cleave_v only_o unto_o he_o without_o who_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v nothing_o and_o in_o who_o we_o may_v do_v all_o thing_n and_o even_o so_o do_v he_o also_o in_o his_o feebleness_n which_o assault_v he_o as_o a_o very_a true_a man_n to_o the_o intent_n that_o we_o always_o remember_v our_o own_o weakness_n may_v understand_v how_o to_o tame_v the_o rebellious_a flesh_n &_o in_o no_o case_n to_o trust_v it_o and_o that_o we_o may_v be_v careful_a and_o vigilaunt_a lest_o the_o subtle_a enemy_n in_o temptation_n come_v behind_o we_o fall_v upon_o we_o and_o oppress_v us._n it_o be_v no_o time_n to_o sleep_v the_o battle_n be_v yet_o a_o fight_a the_o enemy_n be_v yet_o alive_a and_o as_o yet_o beseege_v he_o our_o castle_n that_o christ_n have_v in_o keep_v all_o be_v full_a of_o snare_n and_o danger_n which_o no_o man_n be_v able_a to_o escape_v save_v only_o he_o which_o in_o fervent_a belief_n and_o prayer_n do_v earnest_o watch_v and_o stout_o fight_v yea_o and_o that_o continual_o unto_o the_o end_n neither_o the_o present_a anguish_n and_o trouble_n nor_o yet_o christ_n exhortation_n can_v bring_v so_o much_o to_o pass_v in_o the_o disciple_n as_o to_o keep_v they_o from_o sleep_n so_o little_a it_o help_v where_o the_o spirit_n give_v not_o life_n nevertheless_o christ_n talk_n and_o admonition_n unto_o his_o disciple_n be_v not_o utter_o unprofitable_a for_o that_o they_o now_o understand_v not_o the_o same_o afterwards_o when_o the_o spirit_n come_v be_v make_v plain_n and_o evident_a unto_o they_o and_o then_o be_v they_o fervent_a and_o earnest_a in_o godly_a prayer_n wherefore_o we_o shall_v never_o cease_v from_o comfort_v and_o exhort_v the_o feeble_a and_o weak_a for_o though_o it_o help_v not_o at_o this_o present_a the_o hour_n shall_v come_v that_o the_o spirit_n will_v make_v it_o to_o have_v life_n and_o to_o be_v fruitful_a in_o they_o he_o go_v forth_o the_o second_o time_n and_o pray_v like_a as_o afore_o my_o father_n if_o this_o cup_n may_v not_o pass_v except_o i_o drink_v it_o thy_o will_n be_v do_v then_o come_v he_o again_o and_o find_v they_o sleep_v for_o their_o eye_n be_v heavy_a &_o they_o know_v all_o infirmity_n of_o mankind_n and_o become_v like_a unto_o his_o brethren_n in_o all_o thing_n sin_n except_o be_v a_o very_a true_a man_n he_o be_v therefore_o not_o ashamed_a before_o his_o disciple_n to_o acknowledge_v his_o infirmity_n sorrow_n heaviness_n and_o fear_n and_o to_o complain_v thereof_o unto_o his_o father_n a_o fear_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o death_n and_o passion_n he_o fearful_a conflict_n of_o the_o passion_n &_o death_n he_o shed_v his_o blood_n and_o sweat_v it_o but_o with_o hearty_a desire_n run_v he_o to_o his_o heavenly_a father_n to_o he_o complain_v he_o of_o his_o weakness_n and_o distress_n to_o he_o give_v he_o over_o himself_o in_o all_o obedience_n and_o contentation_n of_o mind_n of_o he_o also_o receive_v he_o comfort_v and_o strength_n in_o the_o
mean_a season_n he_o forget_v not_o his_o disciple_n but_o come_v to_o they_o exhort_v they_o to_o watch_v and_o pray_v &_o have_v great_a compassion_n with_o their_o feebleness_n and_o sloth_n if_o we_o now_o be_v the_o disciple_n and_o scholar_n of_o christ_n jesu_n and_o have_v surrender_v ourselves_o uppe_o into_o the_o school_n of_o the_o heavenly_a schoolmaster_n we_o ought_v diligent_o to_o look_v what_o christ_n here_o in_o himself_o do_v teach_v and_o prescribe_v unto_o we_o that_o we_o learning_n the_o same_o of_o he_o and_o follow_v his_o footstep_n when_o temptation_n of_o sin_n and_o conflict_n of_o adversity_n trouble_v and_o death_n fall_v in_o upon_o we_o may_v know_v how_o to_o order_v and_o frame_v ourselves_o therein_o first_o that_o we_o know_v ourselves_o to_o be_v poor_a full_a of_o fault_n mortal_a man_n and_o sinner_n have_v nothing_o of_o our_o own_o but_o feebleness_n so_o when_o the_o temptation_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o the_o flesh_n assault_v we_o we_o must_v not_o be_v ashamed_a to_o open_v such_o our_o fault_n and_o conflict_n unto_o god_n our_o heavenly_a father_n and_o to_o complain_v unto_o he_o of_o they_o god_n have_v not_o make_v we_o to_o be_v utter_o without_o temptation_n but_o have_v suffer_v the_o same_o to_o remain_v in_o the_o flesh_n that_o we_o thereby_o may_v be_v exercise_v &_o provoke_v to_o seek_v help_n at_o he_o and_o to_o learn_v in_o how_o miserable_a a_o case_n we_o shall_v be_v if_o he_o withdraw_v his_o hand_n from_o we_o when_o we_o now_o feel_v that_o the_o spirit_n be_v willing_a and_o the_o flesh_n weak_a 5._o and_o that_o the_o law_n of_o the_o member_n withstand_v the_o law_n of_o god_n in_o we_o that_o the_o flesh_n fight_v and_o strive_v against_o the_o spirit_n we_o must_v not_o be_v ashamed_a to_o confess_v our_o feebleness_n before_o our_o heavenly_a father_n yea_o though_o of_o weakness_n we_o have_v lyen_fw-we under_o in_o the_o battle_n already_o desire_v his_o help_n that_o we_o may_v rise_v again_o and_o valiant_o to_o fight_v it_o out_o thus_o must_v we_o also_o do_v when_o the_o cross_n and_o hatred_n of_o the_o world_n for_o christ_n sake_n or_o that_o be_v contrary_a to_o our_o nature_n fall_v upon_o us._n the_o cup_n which_o the_o father_n have_v fill_v in_o that_o we_o shall_v drink_v it_o the_o same_o ought_v we_o willing_o to_o drink_v and_o if_o there_o grow_v in_o our_o flesh_n a_o terror_n and_o fear_n to_o taste_v it_o we_o must_v not_o be_v ashamed_a to_o complain_v thereof_o unto_o our_o father_n forasmuch_o as_o we_o see_v here_o that_o christ_n for_o our_o sake_n be_v in_o such_o heaviness_n and_o fear_n do_v not_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o step_v aside_o from_o his_o father_n will_n the_o patience_n therefore_o of_o christian_n stand_v not_o in_o this_o that_o they_o feel_v no_o passion_n or_o be_v not_o fearful_a heavy_a or_o sorry_a but_o in_o this_o that_o no_o cross_n be_v so_o great_a as_o to_o be_v able_a to_o drive_v they_o away_o from_o christ_n yea_o the_o more_o the_o cross_n that_o god_n the_o father_n have_v lay_v upon_o they_o do_v make_v they_o to_o smart_v &_o the_o more_o it_o press_v they_o so_o that_o they_o yet_o bear_v it_o the_o more_o precious_a and_o more_o excellent_a be_v their_o patience_n which_o patience_n we_o ought_v to_o declare_v but_o not_o as_o they_o that_o suffer_v or_o feel_v no_o passion_n at_o all_o for_o here_o we_o be_v instruct_v and_o certify_v of_o the_o kindness_n of_o our_o love_a father_n that_o he_o be_v not_o angry_a neither_o take_v it_o in_o evil_a part_n when_o we_o complain_v to_o he_o of_o our_o present_a trouble_n so_o that_o we_o give_v over_o our_o will_n unto_o he_o all_o they_o therefore_o that_o be_v in_o affliction_n adversity_n and_o temptation_n must_v set_v this_o example_n of_o the_o lord_n direct_o before_o their_o eye_n and_o ponder_v it_o in_o their_o heart_n not_o only_o be_v the_o father_n not_o angry_a when_o we_o complain_v unto_o he_o in_o our_o necessity_n but_o in_o all_o trouble_n he_o send_v we_o his_o own_o help_n and_o comfort_n either_o by_o his_o angel_n or_o inward_o by_o his_o spirit_n or_o outward_o by_o some_o other_o mean_v he_o send_v we_o strength_n give_v we_o his_o hand_n draw_v we_o deliver_v we_o &_o suffer_v we_o not_o to_o be_v tempt_v above_o our_o power_n or_o else_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o our_o adversity_n he_o give_v we_o consolation_n and_o strength_n to_o overcome_v it_o o_o how_o great_a comfort_n bring_v this_o unto_o we_o in_o our_o affliction_n in_o life_n and_o death_n if_o we_o ponder_v weigh_v and_o consider_v the_o exceed_a love_n of_o god_n our_o heavenly_a father_n who_o give_v his_o dear_a son_n into_o so_o great_a trouble_n that_o we_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o eternal_a adversity_n and_o sorrow_n if_o we_o also_o remember_v the_o love_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n towards_o we_o who_o for_o our_o sake_n take_v upon_o himself_o so_o great_a a_o fear_n and_o passion_n how_o can_v we_o look_v for_o all_o good_a thing_n at_o his_o hand_n what_o thing_n be_v so_o great_a that_o we_o his_o member_n will_v not_o suffer_v for_o his_o sake_n if_o we_o behold_v the_o head_n in_o such_o anguish_n and_o trouble_n and_o for_o as_o much_o as_o he_o suffer_v all_o this_o for_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o our_o sin_n we_o ought_v to_o apply_v great_a diligence_n that_o we_o fall_v not_o again_o into_o sin_n for_o the_o which_o christ_n suffer_v this_o and_o from_o the_o which_o christ_n with_o so_o great_a a_o passion_n have_v deliver_v and_o cleanse_v us._n we_o learn_v here_o also_o to_o love_v our_o neighbour_n to_o care_v for_o they_o to_o pity_v they_o if_o they_o be_v impotent_a and_o slow_a to_o pray_v for_o their_o infirmity_n see_v we_o be_v all_o weak_a and_o feeble_a and_o unto_o such_o weakness_n must_v we_o so_o have_v respect_n that_o we_o be_v not_o arrogant_a nor_o hold_v much_o of_o ourselves_o when_o according_a to_o the_o love_n that_o thy_o dear_a son_n have_v bestow_v upon_o we_o o_o give_v we_o patience_n and_o steadfastness_n in_o adversity_n strengthen_v our_o weakness_n comfort_v we_o in_o trouble_n and_o distress_n help_v we_o to_o fight_v grant_v unto_o we_o that_o in_o true_a obedience_n and_o contentation_n of_o mind_n we_o may_v give_v over_o our_o own_o will_n unto_o thou_o our_o
