more_o than_o a_o thought_n or_o a_o idea_n or_o a_o passion_n have_v extension_n or_o part_n their_o numerical_a oneness_n can_v be_v nothing_o else_o but_o every_o spirit_n be_v unity_n with_o itself_o and_o distinct_a and_o separate_a subsistence_n from_o all_o other_o create_v spirit_n now_o this_o self_n unity_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o have_v no_o part_n to_o be_v unite_v can_v be_v can_v touch_v each_o other_o or_o be_v thus_o external_o unite_v but_o we_o know_v the_o unity_n of_o a_o mind_n or_o spirit_n reach_v as_o far_o as_o its_o self-consciousness_n do_v for_o that_o be_v one_o spirit_n which_o know_v and_o feel_v itself_o and_o its_o own_o thought_n and_o motion_n and_o if_o we_o mean_v this_o by_o circumincession_n three_o person_n thus_o intimate_v to_o each_o other_o be_v numerical_o one_o and_o
therefore_o st._n austin_n represent_v this_o much_o better_a by_o that_o self-consciousness_n which_o be_v between_o those_o distinct_a faculty_n in_o we_o of_o memory_n understanding_n and_o will_n life_n one_o reason_n one_o memory_n one_o freewill_n now_o this_o be_v false_a as_o to_o matter_n of_o fact_n for_o though_o we_o will_v allow_v the_o soul_n to_o be_v the_o person_n yet_o by_o its_o union_n to_o the_o body_n it_o have_v two_o sort_n of_o different_a life_n will_n affection_n appetite_n reason_n the_o animal_n and_o sensual_a and_o the_o rational_a life_n will_n appetite_n a_o carnal_a and_o a_o spiritual_a reason_n that_o be_v two_o different_a principle_n of_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n as_o much_o as_o if_o every_o man_n have_v two_o soul_n so_o that_o there_o may_v be_v two_o life_n two_o will_n etc._n etc._n in_o the_o same_o person_n and_o it_o make_v no_o difference_n in_o this_o case_n whether_o these_o two_o will_n be_v seat_v in_o two_o different_a subject_n or_o the_o same_o soul_n by_o its_o vital_a union_n to_o matter_n have_v two_o distinct_a will_n and_o reason_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v find_v out_o some_o other_o notion_n of_o a_o personal_a union_n than_o this_o that_o one_o person_n can_v have_v but_o one_o will_n one_o reason_n etc._n etc._n for_o it_o be_v plain_a one_o person_n may_v have_v two_o will_n and_o reason_n and_o if_o he_o may_v have_v two_o he_o may_v have_v three_o according_a to_o the_o number_n and_o diversity_n of_o nature_n which_o be_v unite_v into_o one_o person_n now_o when_o i_o inquire_v what_o it_o be_v that_o unite_v different_a nature_n into_o one_o person_n i_o do_v not_o mean_v what_o it_o be_v that_o natural_o unite_v they_o neither_o what_o the_o natural_a union_n be_v between_o soul_n and_o body_n in_o the_o person_n of_o man_n nor_o of_o god_n and_o man_n in_o the_o person_n of_o christ_n for_o this_o we_o know_v nothing_o of_o and_o therefore_o no_o pretend_a contradiction_n and_o impossibility_n in_o this_o shall_v hinder_v my_o belief_n of_o it_o as_o i_o discourse_v in_o the_o first_o section_n but_o how_o two_o different_a nature_n may_v be_v so_o unite_v as_o to_o make_v but_o one_o agent_n for_o one_o agent_n be_v one_o person_n now_o there_o be_v but_o two_o thing_n necessary_a to_o this_o 1._o that_o these_o different_a nature_n be_v so_o unite_v that_o the_o superior_a nature_n have_v the_o government_n of_o the_o whole_a person_n unless_o there_o be_v one_o govern_v principle_n there_o can_v be_v one_o agent_n and_o therefore_o not_o one_o person_n and_o the_o superior_a nature_n must_v be_v the_o governor_n and_o the_o person_n as_o this_o author_n tell_v we_o the_o soul_n be_v the_o person_n in_o man_n as_o be_v the_o superior_a govern_v principle_n and_o in_o the_o soul_n reason_n have_v the_o natural_a government_n of_o sense_n as_o be_v the_o superior_a faculty_n proper_a to_o a_o spirit_n whereas_o sense_n result_v from_o its_o union_n to_o matter_n and_o thus_o in_o christ_n the_o divine_a word_n be_v the_o person_n and_o in_o this_o personal_a union_n of_o god_n and_o man_n have_v such_o a_o government_n of_o humane_a nature_n as_o reason_n have_v over_o sense_n in_o man_n and_o therefore_o st._n john_n tell_v we_o 14._o that_o the_o word_n be_v make_v flesh_n or_o be_v incarnate_a for_o the_o person_n of_o the_o word_n take_v humane_a nature_n into_o a_o personal_a union_n with_o himself_o and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o all_o the_o action_n and_o passion_n of_o humane_a nature_n be_v attribute_v to_o christ_n as_o the_o son_n of_o god_n because_o the_o word_n be_v the_o person_n to_o who_o humane_a nature_n be_v unite_v and_o who_o have_v the_o sole_a government_n of_o it_o as_o all_o the_o suffering_n and_o action_n of_o the_o body_n be_v attribute_v to_o the_o man_n though_o the_o soul_n be_v the_o person_n because_o it_o be_v the_o superior_a and_o govern_v power_n and_o constitute_v the_o person_n 2._o to_o complete_a a_o personal_a union_n it_o be_v necessary_a there_o be_v one_o consciousness_n in_o the_o whole_a as_o a_o man_n have_v a_o conscious_a sensation_n of_o every_o thing_n which_o
