desire_n therefore_o this_o that_o he_o say_v in_o his_o heart_n concern_v the_o state_n of_o the_o son_n of_o man_n that_o god_n may_v manifest_v they_o etc._n etc._n may_v be_v take_v for_o his_o hearty_a wish_n or_o prayer_n to_o this_o purpose_n o_o that_o god_n may_v manifest_v they_o and_o that_o they_o may_v see_v themselves_o to_o be_v but_o beast_n and_o so_o it_o be_v clear_a that_o base_a and_o beastly_a they_o be_v for_o all_o their_o eminency_n and_o that_o it_o be_v god_n purpose_n to_o manifest_v they_o to_o be_v such_o ver._n 18._o and_o next_o he_o hold_v forth_o such_o reason_n as_o be_v most_o effectual_a to_o convince_v they_o of_o their_o brutishness_n to_o wit_n that_o they_o as_o well_o as_o the_o beast_n be_v subject_a to_o many_o accident_n or_o as_o the_o illustrate_v the_o resemblance_n betwixt_o they_o and_o the_o beast_n by_o this_o that_o they_o be_v all_o in_o a_o motion_n towards_o the_o same_o place_n to_o wit_n corruption_n or_o the_o state_n person_n in_o such_o and_o such_o case_n that_o their_o knowledge_n may_v become_v experimental_a for_o this_o be_v to_o know_v wisdom_n to_o which_o solomon_n give_v away_o his_o heart_n when_o i_o mind_n to_o the_o first_o cause_n and_o exercise_v their_o thought_n main_o upon_o his_o work_n that_o they_o may_v see_v what_o property_n of_o his_o be_v write_v upon_o all_o event_n as_o they_o be_v his_o work_n and_o what_o use_n shall_v be_v make_v of_o they_o for_o stamp_v the_o heart_n with_o a_o holy_a fear_n of_o offend_v he_o and_o for_o encourage_v his_o people_n in_o his_o service_n see_v these_o be_v main_o intend_v by_o he_o in_o his_o work_n and_o must_v look_v upon_o all_o thing_n that_o fall_v out_o as_o one_o entire_a work_n in_o god_n hand_n so_o shall_v they_o see_v that_o what_o be_v foolish_o sinful_o and_o unjust_o act_v by_o instrument_n the_o same_o be_v wise_o holy_o and_o righteous_o manage_v by_o the_o lord_n for_o when_o solomon_n apply_v his_o heart_n to_o know_v wisdom_n and_o to_o see_v the_o business_n that_o be_v do_v upon_o the_o earth_n than_o say_v he_o i_o behold_v all_o the_o work_n of_o god_n that_o be_v his_o main_a study_n 7._o though_o the_o sincere_a student_n of_o save_v knowledge_n may_v be_v sure_a of_o success_n and_o progress_n in_o that_o study_n hos_n 6.3_o and_o some_o sweetness_n to_o compense_v his_o pain_n ps_n 92.4_o and_o 111.2_o and_o even_o the_o study_n of_o common_a and_o natural_a thing_n that_o be_v within_o the_o compass_n of_o a_o man_n station_n use_v to_o be_v blessed_v with_o divine_a instruction_n isa_n 28.26_o yet_o none_o can_v expect_v in_o this_o life_n full_o to_o comprehend_v all_o that_o may_v be_v know_v of_o god_n in_o any_o of_o his_o work_n or_o to_o find_v they_o out_o so_o as_o to_o satisfy_v their_o carnal_a reason_n but_o must_v still_o be_v humble_a and_o reverence_v the_o unsearchable_a depth_n of_o his_o wisdom_n for_o this_o be_v it_o which_o solomon_n find_v after_o his_o most_o serious_a search_n that_o a_o man_n can_v find_v out_o the_o work_n that_o be_v do_v under_o the_o sun_n 8._o as_o the_o man_n that_o have_v find_v his_o own_o inability_n to_o find_v out_o in_o a_o comprehensive_a and_o satisfactory_a way_n any_o work_n of_o god_n have_v find_v something_o worth_a his_o pain_n to_o humble_v he_o and_o make_v he_o reverence_n god_n wisdom_n so_o even_o this_o much_o can_v be_v find_v out_o till_o after_o great_a pain_n and_o especial_o till_o we_o study_v event_n as_o they_o be_v god_n work_n while_o one_o man_n study_v the_o business_n of_o another_o he_o may_v easy_o think_v to_o find_v he_o out_o and_o to_o reach_v and_o over_o reach_n by_o his_o wit_n the_o work_n of_o one_o like_o himself_o for_o solomon_n speak_v of_o this_o as_o some_o considerable_a success_n of_o his_o pain_n which_o he_o have_v after_o apply_v his_o heart_n and_o behold_v all_o thing_n as_o god_n work_n that_o he_o find_v at_o last_o that_o a_o man_n can_v find_v out_o the_o work_n of_o god_n 9_o suppose_v a_o man_n to_o be_v never_o so_o indefatigable_a in_o pain_n and_o study_n to_o have_v never_o so_o vast_a and_o comprehensive_a a_o understanding_n to_o have_v very_o great_a confidence_n of_o success_n which_o sometime_o much_o advance_v it_o and_o never_o so_o great_a desire_n and_o fix_a purpose_n of_o heart_n to_o grow_v in_o knowledge_n he_o must_v if_o he_o know_v himself_o aright_o after_o all_o his_o pain_n be_v humble_v in_o the_o sense_n of_o his_o short-coming_a and_o when_o he_o have_v sound_v deep_a by_o his_o wit_n whether_o natural_a acquire_v or_o infuse_v must_v still_o acknowledge_v he_o can_v find_v the_o bottom_n of_o the_o unsearchable_a depth_n of_o the_o wisdom_n and_o knowledge_n of_o god_n which_o be_v to_o be_v see_v in_o his_o dispensation_n for_o this_o solomon_n find_v in_o his_o own_o experience_n and_o by_o relate_v it_o here_o labour_v to_o bring_v other_o to_o the_o acknowledgement_n of_o it_o that_o a_o man_n can_v find_v out_o the_o work_n of_o god_n because_o though_o a_o man_n labour_n to_o find_v it_o yea_o though_o a_o wise_a man_n think_v to_o know_v it_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a 10._o the_o cause_n of_o man_n inability_n to_o find_v out_o clear_o the_o mind_n of_o god_n in_o his_o work_n be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o himself_o who_o understanding_n be_v darken_v and_o ruin_v by_o the_o fall_n and_o be_v but_o in_o repair_v during_o his_o abode_n here_o the_o vanity_n and_o corruption_n of_o his_o mind_n and_o affection_n draw_v he_o still_o back_o from_o profitable_a to_o the_o study_n of_o unprofitable_a thing_n and_o his_o body_n be_v so_o weak_a that_o it_o can_v sufficient_o assist_v his_o mind_n in_o the_o use_n of_o mean_n necessary_a for_o make_v progress_n in_o knowledge_n for_o solomon_n here_o do_v often_o mind_n man_n of_o his_o inability_n and_o weakness_n as_o the_o cause_n of_o his_o not_o find_v out_o the_o work_n of_o god_n while_o he_o say_v a_o man_n can_v find_v out_o the_o work_n of_o god_n
in_o duty_n for_o as_o this_o similitude_n imply_v that_o the_o husbandman_n will_v see_v many_o unseasonable_a day_n to_o hinder_v he_o from_o sow_v and_o weaken_v his_o hope_n of_o a_o good_a harvest_n so_o the_o application_n of_o it_o to_o the_o scope_n of_o this_o place_n import_v that_o many_o thing_n will_v appear_v and_o be_v suggest_v to_o hinder_v man_n from_o the_o duty_n of_o charity_n and_o the_o same_o hold_v of_o all_o other_o duty_n and_o to_o weaken_v their_o hope_n of_o the_o performance_n of_o promise_n make_v thereunto_o he_o that_o observe_v the_o wind_n shall_v not_o sow_v and_o he_o that_o regard_v the_o cloud_n shall_v not_o reap_v etc._n etc._n 3._o we_o have_v so_o much_o natural_a aversion_n to_o our_o duty_n and_o so_o much_o unbelief_n of_o the_o promise_a reward_n that_o we_o be_v ready_a to_o make_v every_o appearance_n of_o a_o difficulty_n a_o sufficient_a ground_n to_o quit_v our_o duty_n for_o though_o the_o wether_n will_v often_o be_v lower_v and_o the_o air_n tempestuous_a when_o a_o little_a after_o the_o season_n will_v be_v favourable_a enough_o yet_o it_o be_v suppose_v that_o man_n be_v very_o apt_a by_o such_o small_a appearance_n of_o difficulty_n to_o be_v hinder_v from_o their_o duty_n while_o the_o wise_a man_n thus_o confute_v they_o even_o by_o relate_v their_o objection_n under_o this_o similitude_n he_o that_o observe_v the_o wind_n shall_v not_o sow_v and_o he_o that_o regard_v the_o cloud_n shall_v not_o reap_v 4._o they_o that_o do_v in_o earnest_a mind_n obedience_n to_o command_v duty_n and_o so_o will_v meet_v with_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o promise_n make_v thereunto_o must_v not_o lie_v in_o wait_n to_o observe_v difficulty_n a_o far_o off_o or_o find_v out_o what_o may_v discourage_v they_o in_o their_o duty_n nor_o must_v they_o regard_v difficulty_n when_o they_o be_v suggest_v to_o their_o mind_n but_o when_o the_o season_n and_o opportunity_n of_o duty_n come_v be_v rain_n when_o they_o seem_v to_o threaten_v it_o shall_v never_o reap_v 5._o if_o man_n will_v reason_v in_o matter_n relate_v to_o their_o duty_n to_o god_n and_o their_o eternal_a welfare_n as_o they_o ordinary_o do_v in_o the_o matter_n of_o this_o life_n they_o will_v not_o be_v so_o often_o hinder_v from_o their_o duty_n or_o discourage_v in_o it_o but_o that_o reason_v which_o have_v no_o weight_n with_o they_o in_o thing_n of_o a_o earthly_a and_o small_a concernment_n the_o same_o seem_v most_o strong_a in_o reference_n to_o the_o great_a matter_n of_o their_o soul_n and_o another_o life_n for_o here_o it_o be_v suppose_v that_o man_n do_v not_o ordinary_o reason_n from_o appearance_n of_o rain_n or_o wind_n that_o they_o shall_v neglect_v to_o sow_n or_o reap_v and_o so_o of_o other_o thing_n else_o they_o will_v seldom_o or_o never_o do_v what_o they_o be_v seldom_o or_o never_o find_v to_o neglect_v in_o the_o ordinary_a season_n thereof_o and_o yet_o that_o they_o do_v too_o frequent_o from_o any_o appearance_n of_o hard_a event_n reason_n that_o they_o must_v neglect_v necessary_a duty_n particular_o that_o of_o charity_n here_o press_v he_o that_o observe_v the_o wind_n shall_v not_o sow_v and_o he_o that_o regard_v the_o cloud_n shall_v not_o reap_v 6._o there_o be_v so_o much_o wisdom_n manifest_v in_o all_o the_o work_n of_o god_n and_o we_o be_v so_o blind_a and_o spend_v so_o much_o of_o the_o little_a wit_n we_o have_v upon_o other_o thing_n that_o there_o be_v not_o any_o of_o these_o work_n that_o can_v be_v full_o comprehend_v by_o we_o this_o be_v clear_o suppose_v in_o the_o other_o branch_n of_o solomon_n confutation_n of_o the_o delay_n or_o neglect_v of_o duty_n upon_o appearance_n of_o bad_a success_n as_o thou_o know_v not_o etc._n etc._n so_o thou_o know_v not_o the_o work_n of_o god_n who_o make_v all_o 7._o man_n be_v of_o so_o wonderful_a a_o constitution_n that_o it_o will_v conquer_v his_o understanding_n to_o comprehend_v himself_o and_o therefore_o while_o he_o reflect_v upon_o himself_o he_o shall_v be_v humble_v that_o he_o can_v know_v but_o little_a of_o these_o two_o principal_a part_n whereof_o he_o be_v compose_v the_o way_n of_o the_o form_n of_o his_o soul_n its_o union_n with_o and_o act_v by_o the_o several_a organ_n of_o his_o body_n the_o way_n how_o his_o body_n be_v form_v in_o the_o womb_n how_o so_o many_o rare_a and_o far_o differ_v organ_n and_o member_n of_o so_o various_a operation_n shall_v arise_v out_o of_o so_o inconsiderable_a a_o matter_n of_o one_o kind_n and_o colour_n and_o that_o of_o the_o same_o bones_o shall_v grow_v without_o which_o man_n will_v creep_v upon_o the_o earth_n as_o worm_n do_v woman_n that_o bear_v child_n and_o all_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o woman_n shall_v humble_o admire_v and_o adore_v the_o wonderful_a art_n and_o wisdom_n of_o god_n in_o frame_v both_o their_o spirit_n and_o body_n and_o thereby_o be_v move_v to_o adventure_v upon_o duty_n to_o he_o be_v confident_a that_o he_o who_o make_v they_o so_o wonderful_o can_v easy_o prevent_v imminent_a hazard_n in_o the_o way_n of_o their_o duty_n and_o bring_v about_o the_o performance_n of_o his_o promise_n though_o they_o see_v not_o how_o the_o same_o can_v be_v for_o here_o the_o incomprehensible_a wisdom_n of_o god_n manifest_v in_o form_v of_o the_o spirit_n and_o body_n of_o man_n be_v bring_v as_o a_o motive_n to_o the_o duty_n of_o charity_n and_o to_o make_v man_n charitable_a so_o to_o speak_v of_o god_n that_o he_o can_v easy_o prevent_v their_o fear_n of_o loss_n and_o want_n make_v up_o their_o loss_n and_o make_v good_a his_o own_o promise_n as_o thou_o know_v not_o the_o way_n of_o the_o spirit_n nor_o how_o the_o bone_n grow_v in_o the_o womb_n of_o she_o that_o be_v with_o child_n so_o thou_o know_v not_o the_o work_n of_o god_n that_o make_v all_o thing_n 8._o however_o our_o ignorance_n of_o god_n way_n of_o work_v so_o far_o as_o the_o same_o may_v be_v know_v aught_o to_o humble_v we_o yet_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o ignorance_n may_v be_v useful_a for_o we_o and_o may_v teach_v we_o to_o follow_v our_o duty_n in_o hope_n of_o convince_v we_o of_o folly_n in_o desist_v from_o duty_n because_o we_o see_v not_o how_o we_o shall_v be_v reward_v as_o he_o have_v promise_v and_o to_o put_v we_o to_o our_o duty_n in_o every_o opportunity_n thereof_o consider_v that_o god_n who_o be_v infinite_a in_o power_n and_o wisdom_n can_v easy_o prevent_v our_o fear_n of_o loss_n or_o hazard_n in_o the_o way_n of_o our_o duty_n and_o
