and_o to_o his_o wife_n in_o particular_a now_o the_o husband_n must_v labour_v to_o edify_v and_o build_v up_o his_o wife_n and_z to_z further_o she_o in_o the_o way_n of_o holiness_n by_o his_o performance_n of_o these_o particular_a duty_n viz._n by_o dehortation_n exhortation_n reprehension_n and_o as_o occasion_n be_v by_o labour_v to_o give_v her_o consolation_n so_o also_o by_o pray_v for_o she_o and_o with_o she_o by_o read_v the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o she_o and_o by_o holy_a conference_n as_o frequent_o as_o may_v be_v for_o by_o pray_v for_o she_o he_o may_v find_v the_o lord_n gracious_o entreat_v to_o confer_v and_o bestow_v grace_n into_o her_o heart_n and_o to_o give_v she_o a_o daily_a increase_n thereof_o second_o by_o pray_v with_o she_o he_o may_v be_v a_o mean_n to_o put_v life_n and_o quicken_n into_o her_o spirit_n in_o all_o duty_n three_o by_o read_v the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o she_o he_o may_v instruct_v she_o four_o by_o use_v holy_a conference_n with_o she_o he_o may_v stir_v up_o in_o her_o ardent_a desire_n and_o heavenly_a affection_n in_o mind_v thing_n of_o a_o more_o sublime_a nature_n than_o any_o thing_n in_o this_o transitory_a life_n and_o if_o she_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o way_n of_o god_n and_o the_o duty_n she_o do_v owe_v unto_o god_n and_o man_n it_o must_v be_v the_o care_n of_o her_o husband_n to_o inform_v she_o to_o teach_v and_o instruct_v she_o in_o those_o thing_n but_o if_o she_o know_v they_o than_o he_o must_v labour_v to_o rub_v they_o afresh_o upon_o her_o memory_n as_o the_o apostle_n peter_n do_v on_o they_o to_o who_o he_o write_v 2_o pet._n 1.12_o that_o she_o may_v set_v herself_o the_o more_o serious_o to_o the_o practice_n of_o they_o belove_a a_o man_n be_v no_o way_n able_a to_o show_v his_o love_n more_o unto_o his_o wife_n than_o by_o labour_v that_o she_o may_v be_v everlasting_o happy_a as_o well_o as_o himself_o and_o happy_a be_v that_o woman_n who_o do_v enjoy_v such_o a_o husband_n as_o be_v very_o tender_a of_o her_o soul_n health_n and_o who_o do_v labour_n to_o further_o she_o in_o the_o discharge_n of_o all_o her_o duty_n in_o her_o general_a and_o particular_a call_v even_o in_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o insuffer_v his_o pleasure_n we_o may_v have_v be_v large_a in_o this_o particular_a and_o doubtless_o shall_v but_o that_o in_o the_o next_o head_n we_o shall_v have_v occasion_n to_o mention_v some_o of_o the_o forementioned_a direction_n again_o as_o very_o proper_a to_o the_o next_o duty_n of_o the_o husband_n to_o the_o wife_n and_o so_o desist_v here_o wife_n the_o four_o duty_n of_o the_o husband_n to_o his_o wife_n in_o the_o four_o place_n the_o duty_n of_o the_o husband_n to_o the_o wife_n be_v to_o labour_v to_o reclaim_v she_o from_o any_o sin_n and_o sinful_a course_n she_o do_v live_v in_o for_o sin_n be_v of_o a_o deceitful_a nature_n and_o will_v deceive_v the_o soul_n of_o the_o choice_a christian_n in_o the_o world_n if_o not_o root_v out_o betimes_o before_o the_o heart_n be_v harden_v therein_o and_o therefore_o the_o holy_a ghost_n bid_v we_o exhort_v one_o another_o to_o day_n to_o prevent_v the_o same_o heb._n 3.13_o therefore_o if_o a_o man_n see_v his_o wife_n nourish_v any_o sin_n in_o her_o heart_n or_o life_n he_o have_v need_n to_o bestir_v himself_o to_o make_v opposition_n against_o it_o note_n it_o note_n for_o mind_n it_o well_o if_o sin_n be_v not_o mortify_v early_o we_o may_v fear_v that_o in_o time_n it_o will_v mortify_v grace_n they_o can_v be_v both_o fruitful_a in_o one_o poor_a heart_n and_o if_o grace_n die_v a_o exceed_a sad_a funeral_n will_v follow_v but_o if_o it_o be_v demand_v what_o be_v the_o mean_v the_o husband_n must_v use_v to_o reclaim_v his_o wife_n from_o any_o sin_n i_o answer_v first_o earnest_a prayer_n and_o supplication_n to_o god_n in_o her_o behalf_n this_o way_n when_o the_o church_n have_v go_v astray_o from_o god_n and_o have_v run_v themselves_o into_o many_o misery_n the_o prophet_n jeremy_n seek_v unto_o god_n in_o their_o behalf_n thus_o turn_v thou_o unto_o we_o o_o lord_n and_o we_o shall_v be_v turn_v renew_v our_o day_n as_o of_o old_a lam._n 5.21_o 25.21_o gen._n 25.21_o as_o god_n hear_v isaac_n pray_v for_o his_o wife_n for_o a_o fruitful_a womb_n that_o she_o may_v conceive_v and_o bear_v so_o how_o know_v thou_o but_o that_o thou_o may_v by_o prayer_n prevail_v with_o god_n in_o thy_o wife_n behalf_n that_o she_o may_v conceive_v the_o seed_n of_o save_a grace_n in_o her_o heart_n and_o bring_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o it_o in_o her_o life_n even_o the_o mortification_n of_o that_o sin_n or_o sin_n that_o be_v most_o predominant_a in_o she_o and_o with_o much_o comfort_n may_v thou_o expect_v such_o a_o blessing_n on_o thy_o prayer_n if_o they_o be_v fervent_a jam._n 5.16_o god_n have_v the_o heart_n of_o all_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o his_o hand_n and_o can_v turn_v they_o at_o his_o own_o pleasure_n he_o can_v make_v a_o proud_a heart_n humble_a a_o hard_a heart_n soft_a a_o earthly_a heart_n heavenly_a a_o crooked_a heart_n straight_o he_o can_v help_v the_o perverseness_n of_o the_o will_n and_o the_o disorder_n of_o the_o affection_n god_n have_v a_o plaster_n for_o every_o sore_a and_o a_o proper_a remedy_n for_o every_o disease_n god_n can_v help_v the_o blindness_n of_o the_o mind_n the_o error_n of_o the_o judgement_n the_o irregularity_n of_o the_o whole_a man_n then_o i_o say_v go_v unto_o god_n in_o the_o first_o place_n and_o importune_v he_o for_o mercy_n for_o and_o for_o cure_v of_o thy_o wife_n soule-sicknesse_n and_o distemper_n in_o the_o second_o place_n thou_o must_v kind_o and_o with_o all_o possible_a sweetness_n admonish_v she_o of_o the_o danger_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o the_o fearful_a fruit_n and_o sad_a effect_n of_o it_o as_o that_o thereby_o she_o dishonour_v a_o good_a god_n she_o wound_v she_o own_o conscience_n she_o bring_v discredit_v to_o the_o gospel_n she_o provoke_v the_o lord_n indignation_n and_o wrath_n against_o she_o to_o her_o confusion_n if_o she_o persevere_v in_o sin_n labour_v to_o persuade_v she_o that_o sin_n have_v a_o long_a tail_n of_o judgement_n at_o the_o heel_n of_o it_o externall_n internal_a and_o eternal_a inchoated_a on_o earth_n consummate_v in_o hell_n
