arise_v from_o a_o man_n own_o sin_n or_o rather_o from_o some_o one_o special_a sin_n commit_v and_o this_o kind_n of_o tentation_n be_v twofold_a for_o either_o it_o be_v more_o violent_a and_o less_o common_a or_o less_o violent_a and_o more_o common_a sect._n 1_o the_o violent_a distress_n of_o mind_n show_v it_o distress_n self_n by_o fear_n and_o terror_n of_o the_o conscience_n by_o which_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o violent_a distress_n and_o here_o we_o be_v to_o know_v by_o the_o way_n that_o it_o be_v a_o usual_a thing_n with_o the_o party_n thus_o distress_v to_o dissemble_v and_o cloak_n their_o sin_n and_o therefore_o they_o will_v allege_v that_o their_o trouble_n arise_v from_o some_o evil_a thought_n from_o wicked_a affection_n and_o from_o the_o corruption_n of_o nature_n whereas_o common_o man_n be_v not_o distress_v in_o violent_a manner_n for_o evil_a thought_n affection_n etc._n etc._n but_o the_o violent_a distress_n come_v from_o soâ—…e_o actual_a and_o odious_a sin_n or_o sin_n do_v which_o wind_v the_o conscience_n and_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o great_a distraction_n of_o mind_n and_o they_o be_v many_o which_o have_v be_v upon_o occasion_n before_o rehearse_v i_o will_v not_o now_o repeat_v they_o only_o this_o must_v be_v remember_v that_o the_o great_a sin_n against_o the_o three_o six_o and_o seven_o commandment_n be_v the_o main_a and_o proper_a cause_n of_o violent_a 〈◊〉_d distress_n and_o the_o more_o secret_a the_o sin_n be_v in_o regard_n of_o the_o practice_n thereof_o the_o great_a horror_n of_o he_o be_v or_o at_o least_o shall_v be_v possess_v in_o like_a manner_n upon_o relation_n of_o fearful_a thing_n present_o his_o fantasy_n work_v and_o he_o imagine_v that_o the_o thing_n be_v already_o or_o shall_v befall_v he_o and_o this_o imagination_n when_o it_o enter_v once_o and_o take_v place_n it_o bring_v forth_o horrible_a and_o fearful_a effect_n the_o second_o effect_n or_o work_v of_o melancholy_a be_v upon_o the_o heart_n for_o there_o be_v a_o concord_n and_o consent_n between_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o brain_n the_o thought_n and_o the_o affection_n the_o heart_n affect_v nothing_o but_o that_o which_o the_o mind_n conceive_v now_o when_o the_o mind_n have_v conceive_v imagine_a and_o frame_v within_o itself_o fearful_a thought_n then_o come_v affection_n and_o be_v answerable_a to_o imagination_n and_o hence_o proceed_v exceed_v horror_n fear_n and_o despair_n even_o of_o salvation_n itself_o and_o yet_o the_o conscience_n for_o all_o this_o untouched_a and_o not_o trouble_v or_o disquiet_v 3._o three_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v whether_o there_o be_v any_o difference_n between_o the_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n and_o melancholy_a for_o many_o hold_n that_o they_o be_v all_o one_o ans._n they_o be_v not_o all_o one_o but_o differ_v much_o affliction_n of_o conscience_n be_v one_o thing_n trouble_v by_o melancholy_n be_v a_o other_o and_o they_o be_v plain_o distinguish_v thus_o first_o when_o the_o conscience_n be_v trouble_v the_o affliction_n itself_o be_v in_o the_o conscience_n and_o so_o in_o the_o whole_a man_n but_o in_o melancholy_a the_o imagination_n be_v disturb_v and_o not_o the_o conscience_n second_o the_o conscience_n afflict_v have_v a_o true_a and_o certain_a cause_n whereby_o it_o be_v trouble_v namely_o the_o sight_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o sense_n of_o god_n wrath_n but_o in_o melancholy_a the_o imagination_n conceive_v a_o thing_n to_o be_v so_o which_o be_v not_o so_o for_o it_o make_v a_o man_n to_o fear_n and_o despair_n upon_o suppose_a and_o feign_a cause_n three_o the_o man_n afflict_v in_o conscience_n have_v courage_n in_o many_o other_o matter_n but_o the_o melancholic_a man_n fear_v man_n must_v pray_v in_o public_a now_o in_o private_a prayer_n make_v in_o private_a and_o secret_a place_n by_o private_a person_n the_o voice_n be_v profitable_a but_o not_o simple_o necessary_a
