a_o redoundancy_n 1_o unto_o the_o other_o faculty_n and_o thereupon_o may_v take_v away_o those_o let_n and_o impediment_n unto_o good_a as_o thus_o whereas_o ignorance_n or_o infidelity_n be_v not_o be_v distract_v with_o it_o three_o the_o understanding_n may_v do_v much_o good_a by_o instruction_n when_o it_o be_v renew_v and_o therefore_o it_o come_v 3_o many_o time_n that_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o faculty_n be_v overturn_v by_o the_o reason_n as_o thus_o when_o the_o will_n and_o affection_n be_v immoderate_o set_v upon_o a_o wrong_a object_n the_o mind_n come_v and_o instruct_v the_o will_n and_o affection_n of_o the_o vileness_n of_o the_o object_n and_o the_o danger_n that_o will_v ensue_v and_o then_o contrary_o inform_v they_o of_o grace_n propound_v heavenly_a object_n first_o use_v then_o shall_v be_v to_o reprove_v sharp_o such_o 1_o as_o favour_v the_o member_n of_o this_o body_n and_o be_v inordinate_o affect_v with_o this_o earthly_a mindedness_n such_o also_o as_o can_v deny_v these_o member_n any_o thing_n that_o be_v pleasant_a unto_o they_o whereas_o they_o shall_v be_v suppress_v and_o mortify_v by_o the_o spirit_n the_o rich_a man_n feed_v these_o member_n with_o his_o riches_n the_o covetous_a man_n with_o his_o covetousness_n the_o proud_a man_n with_o his_o pride_n and_o the_o ambitious_a man_n with_o his_o vainglory_n when_o as_o these_o be_v their_o great_a enemy_n howsoever_o they_o be_v cozen_v by_o they_o but_o if_o they_o do_v but_o know_v if_o they_o be_v but_o true_o enlighten_v with_o grace_n they_o will_v perceive_v the_o evil_a of_o these_o member_n and_o how_o great_a a_o enemy_n this_o earthly_a mindedness_n be_v unto_o they_o and_o then_o they_o will_v starve_v their_o body_n soon_o than_o they_o shall_v deceive_v they_o of_o their_o soul_n for_o first_o as_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o hurtful_a unto_o man_n than_o earthly_a mindedness_n so_o second_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o hateful_a unto_o god_n and_o three_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o contrary_a unto_o the_o profession_n of_o christianity_n than_o the_o love_a of_o those_o earthly_a member_n for_o the_o first_o i_o say_v that_o there_o some_o man_n that_o be_v rich_a but_o now_o be_v fall_v and_o therefore_o because_o their_o hope_n depend_v upon_o this_o man_n and_o now_o be_v unable_a to_o help_v they_o they_o be_v deject_v but_o this_o be_v a_o false_a humiliation_n for_o true_a stand_v humiliation_n consist_v in_o a_o abstain_v from_o sin_n because_o it_o be_v displease_v unto_o god_n and_o a_o raise_n up_o of_o the_o earthly_a thing_n they_o will_v work_v carelessness_n and_o remissness_n of_o better_a thing_n it_o so_o possess_v his_o heart_n with_o fear_n that_o he_o altogether_o neglect_v spiritual_a thing_n it_o will_v make_v thou_o careless_a in_o prayer_n and_o other_o holy_a duty_n take_v heed_n therefore_o of_o fill_v thy_o heart_n with_o earthly_a thing_n for_o it_o will_v take_v away_o the_o relish_n of_o spiritual_a thing_n and_o if_o once_o the_o sweetness_n of_o they_o be_v go_v thou_o will_v make_v small_a account_n of_o they_o take_v heed_n of_o too_o much_o pleasure_n for_o than_o you_o will_v neglect_v prayer_n in_o private_a and_o take_v heed_n of_o abundance_n of_o riches_n for_o they_o have_v a_o draw_a power_n in_o they_o and_o here_o what_o christ_n speak_v unto_o the_o the_o word_n as_o we_o find_v they_o neither_o in_o they_o to_o show_v ourselves_o but_o only_a mak●_n they_o as_o a_o mean_n to_o help_v we_o for_o this_o work_n as_o for_o example_n the_o child_n of_o israel_n may_v whet_v their_o scythe_n upon_o all_o the_o stone_n of_o the_o philistines_n so_o a_o minister_n may_v sharpen_v his_o faculty_n with_o arts._n a_o man_n that_o keep_v sheep_n he_o and_o say_v thou_o shall_v have_v riches_n and_o contentment_n in_o simile_n earthly_a thing_n and_o yet_o have_v inordinate_a affection_n this_o be_v no_o help_n for_o thou_o it_o be_v but_o a_o apply_v simile_n of_o a_o outward_a plaster_n to_o a_o inward_a sore_n that_o will_v do_v it_o no_o good_a the_o three_o motive_n be_v take_v from_o 1_o timothy_n 6._o 9_o the_o apostle_n speak_v mortify_v these_o our_o affection_n how_o to_o mortify_v covetousness_n coloss._n 3._o 5._o and_o covetousness_n which_o be_v idolatry_n covetousness_n which_o be_v idolatry_n that_o must_v be_v mortify_v aswell_o as_o the_o other_o earthly_a member_n now_o this_o covetousness_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o inordinate_a and_o sinful_a desire_n either_o of_o get_v or_o keep_v wealth_n or_o money_n the_o inordinate_a lust_a after_o honour_n that_o be_v call_v ambition_n too_o much_o affect_v of_o beauty_n be_v call_v lustfulnesse_n and_o lust_n be_v a_o inordinate_a affection_n which_o when_o it_o propound_v riches_n for_o its_o object_n it_o be_v call_v covetousness_n which_o be_v idolatry_n now_o idolatry_n consist_v in_o one_o of_o these_o three_o thing_n first_o in_o worship_v the_o true_a god_n in_o a_o wrong_a manner_n apprehend_v he_o as_o a_o creature_n give_v that_o to_o himthat_o agree_v not_o with_o he_o second_o when_o as_o we_o make_v the_o creature_n a_o god_n
