their_o heart_n from_o time_n to_o time_n but_o if_o we_o give_v scope_n to_o our_o affection_n and_o suffer_v our_o desire_n to_o range_v beyond_o the_o bound_n of_o god_n word_n and_o will_n as_o desire_v from_o whence_o we_o learn_v what_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o true_a
groan_n which_o be_v stir_v up_o in_o we_o the_o lord_n acknowledge_v and_o answer_v we_o according_a to_o they_o therefore_o we_o must_v hearken_v to_o the_o exhortation_n of_o the_o apostle_n and_o have_v need_v to_o do_v careful_o because_o else_o they_o will_v too_o soon_o wander_v sudden_o before_o we_o be_v aware_a as_o all_o of_o we_o do_v find_v it_o to_o be_v true_a by_o too_o great_a experience_n see_v then_o that_o prayer_n be_v a_o work_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n as_o we_o have_v hear_v and_o not_o of_o the_o lip_n and_o of_o the_o tongue_n so_o much_o every_o one_o that_o come_v unto_o prayer_n must_v especial_o labour_v in_o this_o one_o point_n that_o he_o may_v bring_v his_o heart_n unto_o god_n and_o not_o to_o stand_v so_o much_o upon_o word_n prayer_n if_o we_o have_v good_a desire_n the_o want_n of_o fit_a word_n must_v not_o hinder_v we_o from_o prayer_n and_o this_o must_v be_v no_o bar_n unto_o any_o to_o keep_v they_o from_o prayer_n to_o say_v i_o have_v no_o fit_a word_n i_o can_v utter_v my_o mind_n well_o i_o have_v a_o good_a heart_n but_o my_o speech_n be_v naught_o etc._n etc._n for_o first_o of_o all_o if_o we_o be_v sufficient_o touch_v with_o the_o feel_n of_o our_o want_n we_o shall_v have_v word_n enough_o to_o utter_v the_o same_o for_o all_o experience_n show_v that_o every_o one_o can_v complain_v well_o enough_o to_o the_o understanding_n of_o man_n of_o any_o thing_n wherein_o they_o be_v grieve_v be_v they_o never_o so_o simple_a as_o the_o poor_a creature_n that_o be_v that_o be_v pinch_v with_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n can_v ask_v bread_n and_o meat_n and_o no_o man_n need_v to_o instruct_v he_o what_o word_n he_o shall_v use_v in_o such_o a_o case_n and_o if_o any_o be_v oppress_v they_o can_v sufficient_o lay_v open_a their_o wrong_n we_o see_v that_o young_a child_n can_v do_v that_o and_o almost_o natural_a fool_n then_o assure_o if_o we_o have_v that_o inward_a sight_n and_o king_n they_o it_o seem_v that_o all_o king_n may_v soon_o have_v their_o desire_n and_o so_o need_v not_o pray_v to_o god_n to_o fulfil_v they_o and_o a_o mighty_a prince_n therefore_o if_o any_o there_o any_o fear_n of_o it_o if_o he_o have_v be_v a_o mean_a man_n it_o have_v be_v another_o matter_n or_o one_o that_o can_v not_o have_v holpen_v himself_o nor_o have_v have_v any_o to_o do_v that_o he_o will_v put_v a_o happy_a end_n to_o it_o in_o time_n though_o most_o righteous_o deserve_v and_o pardon_v their_o sin_n that_o have_v be_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o that_o so_o we_o may_v say_v before_o hand_n now_o i_o know_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v we_o as_o indeed_o by_o his_o grace_n at_o this_o present_a we_o do_v and_o may_v see_v most_o clear_o that_o by_o diminish_v of_o it_o in_o the_o chief_a city_n and_o place_n of_o this_o realm_n where_o it_o be_v and_o that_o also_o by_o lessen_v of_o it_o in_o so_o great_a measure_n he_o have_v hear_v our_o prayer_n and_o grant_v our_o request_n that_o so_o hereafter_o by_o this_o bless_a experience_n that_o we_o have_v in_o one_o thing_n we_o may_v be_v move_v to_o come_v unto_o he_o in_o great_a assurance_n not_o doubt_v but_o that_o he_o will_v hear_v we_o then_o also_o and_o thus_o always_o from_o time_n to_o time_n 4.16_o hebr._n 4.16_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v come_v bold_o into_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n that_o we_o may_v receive_v mercy_n and_o find_v grace_n to_o help_v in_o time_n of_o need_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v take_v this_o blessing_n upon_o our_o brethren_n as_o a_o fruit_n of_o our_o daily_a prayer_n and_o mark_v it_o well_o to_o that_o end_n prayer_n experience_n of_o former_a time_n increase_v our_o assurance_n of_o be_v hear_v in_o prayer_n and_o this_o be_v that_o that_o shall_v be_v speak_v of_o also_o concern_v that_o assurance_n that_o we_o shall_v have_v in_o prayer_n of_o be_v hear_v that_o by_o daily_a experience_n of_o god_n goodness_n and_o merciful_a deal_n with_o we_o we_o shall_v daily_o grow_v therein_o and_o therefore_o that_o we_o may_v come_v unto_o it_o it_o be_v requisite_a that_o we_o shall_v great_o acquaint_v ourselves_o with_o prayer_n they_o come_v &_o how_o sleepe_o do_v they_o behave_v themselves_o here_o as_o though_o it_o make_v no_o matter_n at_o all_o how_o they_o serve_v god_n yea_o servant_n be_v common_o more_o diligent_a for_o despite_n and_o sink_v in_o because_o of_o all_o my_o enemy_n here_o we_o see_v that_o in_o these_o seven_o first_o verse_n he_o complain_v most_o grievous_o of_o his_o own_o estate_n &_o pray_v most_o fervent_o unto_o god_n for_o deliverance_n and_o no_o man_n can_v say_v more_o either_o to_o express_v the_o grief_n of_o his_o mind_n or_o his_o fervent_a desire_n to_o have_v relief_n and_o his_o enemy_n look_v that_o he_o shall_v perish_v and_o be_v swallow_v up_o in_o it_o and_o he_o attain_v unto_o so_o great_a assurance_n of_o this_o that_o he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o contain_v himself_o but_o again_o and_o again_o profess_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v hear_v his_o prayer_n and_o the_o voice_n of_o his_o weep_n and_o not_o only_o that_o be_v to_o be_v mark_v but_o especial_o this_o that_o he_o come_v unto_o this_o assurance_n not_o until_o the_o end_n of_o many_o long_a and_o fervent_a prayer_n and_o that_o in_o the_o beginning_n either_o he_o have_v it_o not_o at_o all_o or_o nothing_o in_o that_o measure_n that_o there_o he_o profess_v it_o for_o than_o no_o doubt_n he_o will_v have_v do_v it_o soon_o and_o not_o so_o long_o have_v feed_v himself_o with_o such_o grievous_a complaint_n and_o lamentable_a outcry_n as_o there_o he_o do_v mean_n and_o so_o may_v we_o do_v for_o god_n give_v it_o by_o ordinary_a mean_n so_o be_v it_o possible_a for_o we_o in_o what_o trouble_n soever_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o if_o we_o pray_v unto_o god_n in_o all_o humility_n and_o sorrow_n for_o our_o sin_n as_o he_o do_v even_o with_o great_a abundance_n of_o tear_n for_o he_o say_v that_o he_o water_v his_o couch_n and_o make_v his_o bed_n to_o swim_v with_o they_o by_o which_o hyperbolical_a kind_n of_o speech_n he_o mean_v that_o he_o weep_v very_o much_o not_o only_o in_o the_o day_n but_o even_o in_o the_o night_n also_o and_o if_o we_o do_v pray_v with_o that_o fervency_n that_o he_o do_v not_o faint_v nor_o give_v over_o but_o stretch_v out_o our_o affection_n and_o desire_n according_a to_o our_o present_a need_n it_o be_v possible_a i_o say_v for_o we_o to_o attain_v by_o degree_n unto_o that_o measure_n of_o persuasion_n of_o god_n goodness_n towards_o we_o that_o may_v suffice_v us._n and_o though_o we_o come_v not_o to_o that_o great_a measure_n that_o be_v in_o this_o holy_a man_n because_o we_o pray_v not_o in_o that_o fervency_n and_o zeal_n and_o tenderness_n of_o heart_n that_o he_o do_v yet_o in_o some_o acceptable_a measure_n and_o more_o than_o we_o have_v in_o the_o beginning_n for_o i_o be_o not_o of_o that_o opinion_n that_o this_o be_v inspire_v into_o he_o as_o he_o be_v a_o prophet_n who_o have_v many_o thing_n extraordinary_a neither_o that_o any_o man_n can_v come_v to_o have_v any_o assurance_n or_o full_a persuasion_n either_o of_o their_o salvation_n or_o that_o god_n hear_v their_o prayer_n or_o of_o any_o other_o favour_n from_o he_o without_o some_o revelation_n and_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v think_v presumption_n in_o a_o man_n to_o say_v he_o be_v assure_v of_o such_o thing_n but_o that_o god_n give_v this_o assurance_n and_o increase_v it_o by_o ordinary_a mean_n and_o namely_o and_o especial_o by_o prayer_n for_o see_v prayer_n be_v very_o fit_o compare_v unto_o wrestle_v or_o strive_v as_o we_o have_v see_v heretofore_o by_o which_o we_o labour_v with_o all_o the_o power_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o body_n it_o a_o comparison_n to_o show_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o to_o obtain_v some_o thing_n of_o the_o lord_n as_o by_o bodily_a strive_a man_n seek_v to_o obtain_v some_o mastery_n among_o man_n and_o thus_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o it_o to_o the_o roman_n 15.30_o rom._n 15.30_o desire_v they_o to_o strive_v with_o he_o by_o prayer_n to_o god_n for_o he_o as_o in_o strive_v a_o man_n strength_n be_v not_o always_o great_a at_o the_o first_o neither_o can_v himself_o or_o other_o perceive_v so_o well_o whether_o he_o shall_v overcome_v but_o sometime_o yea_o most_o usual_o when_o after_o some_o pain_n take_v his_o body_n be_v well_o heat_n he_o increase_v in_o strength_n of_o body_n and_o agility_n of_o limb_n whereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o he_o find_v that_o in_o himself_o which_o give_v he_o great_a hope_n of_o prevail_a against_o his_o adversary_n than_o he_o have_v before_o so_o be_v it_o when_o we_o pray_v to_o god_n and_o as_o it_o be_v strive_v with_o he_o that_o though_o we_o put_v all_o our_o strength_n unto_o it_o at_o the_o first_o that_o be_v pray_v with_o all_o the_o desire_n of_o our_o heart_n yet_o when_o by_o continuance_n in_o prayer_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o we_o be_v well_o heat_n as_o i_o may_v say_v and_o the_o heat_n of_o it_o increase_v we_o shall_v find_v that_o both_o our_o desire_n be_v great_o increase_v &_o also_o our_o assurance_n from_o thence_o of_o be_v hear_v be_v enlarge_v so_o that_o in_o the_o midst_n or_o end_n of_o our_o prayer_n we_o shall_v perceive_v our_o mind_n more_o pacify_v and_o quiet_a and_o ourselves_o more_o ready_a to_o submit_v our_o will_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o to_o rest_v in_o the_o hope_n of_o his_o defence_n and_o deliverance_n than_o before_o whereof_o if_o we_o be_v ask_v though_o we_o can_v give_v no_o great_a reason_n from_o outward_a thing_n for_o all_o thing_n be_v still_o with_o we_o as_o they_o be_v before_o yet_o we_o find_v it_o to_o be_v true_a by_o experience_n and_o must_v account_v it_o a_o fruit_n of_o our_o prayer_n in_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v give_v we_o great_a assurance_n than_o we_o have_v before_o and_o so_o we_o be_v content_v to_o wait_v upon_o he_o the_o like_a may_v be_v show_v in_o many_o other_o psalm_n david_n another_o example_n of_o this_o in_o the_o person_n of_o david_n as_o indeed_o that_o one_o book_n as_o it_o be_v full_a of_o godly_a prayer_n so_o of_o notable_a example_n of_o this_o kind_n of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o his_o child_n and_o servant_n but_o for_o brevity_n sake_n i_o will_v content_v myself_o with_o one_o or_o two_o now_o in_o the_o seventeeth_n psalm_n he_o pray_v unto_o god_n to_o be_v preserve_v from_o his_o enemy_n either_o saul_n or_o some_o other_o for_o indeed_o he_o have_v many_o and_o say_v thus_o hear_v the_o right_n 17.1_o psal_n 17.1_o o_o lord_n that_o be_v my_o righteous_a cause_n consider_v my_o cry_n harken_v unto_o my_o prayer_n of_o lip_n unfeigned_a let_v my_o sentence_n come_v forth_o from_o thy_o presence_n and_o let_v thy_o eye_n behold_v equity_n thou_o have_v prove_v and_o visit_v my_o heart_n in_o for_o this_o purpose_n that_o we_o have_v in_o hand_n &_o for_o which_o this_o be_v allege_v that_o though_o in_o the_o beginning_n he_o pray_v and_o then_o again_o return_v to_o his_o prayer_n unto_o the_o lord_n that_o he_o will_v hear_v he_o yet_o he_o put_v this_o in_o
be_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o and_o strive_v against_o that_o that_o so_o we_o may_v come_v unto_o it_o in_o time_n and_o in_o that_o measure_n that_o the_o lord_n shall_v bestow_v it_o upon_o us._n second_o we_o must_v consider_v it_o another_o reason_n of_o it_o that_o this_o people_n do_v pray_v very_o fervent_o and_o often_o for_o this_o that_o god_n will_v hear_v and_o help_v their_o king_n before_o they_o come_v to_o this_o assurance_n as_o appear_v by_o all_o the_o former_a word_n when_o they_o say_v the_o lord_n hear_v thou_o the_o name_n of_o god_n defend_v thou_o send_v thou_o help_v and_o strengthen_v thou_o let_v he_o remember_v thy_o offering_n and_o turn_v thy_o burn_a offering_n into_o ash_n grant_v thou_o according_a to_o thy_o heart_n fulfil_v all_o thy_o purpose_n etc._n etc._n where_o there_o be_v many_o short_a and_o earnest_a petition_n for_o the_o same_o thing_n which_o double_v of_o their_o word_n and_o of_o their_o request_n in_o so_o great_a shortness_n do_v sufficient_o show_v how_o fervent_o they_o pray_v for_o we_o must_v not_o think_v that_o they_o use_v vain_a babble_n heap_v up_o a_o multitude_n of_o word_n without_o any_o sense_n feeling_n or_o desire_v of_o the_o thing_n answerable_a unto_o the_o same_o as_o it_o be_v the_o manner_n of_o hypocrite_n and_o heathen_a to_o do_v who_o use_v repetition_n and_o think_v to_o be_v hear_v for_o their_o much_o babble_n 6.7_o matth._n 6.7_o against_o who_o our_o saviour_n christ_n speak_v in_o the_o gospel_n but_o this_o prayer_n be_v first_o make_v by_o david_n who_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o for_o the_o church_n which_o be_v rule_v by_o the_o same_o spirit_n we_o may_v by_o their_o word_n very_o clear_o discern_v &_o see_v their_o spirit_n that_o they_o pray_v with_o namely_o with_o great_a earnestness_n and_o feeling_n especial_o when_o this_o word_n selah_n which_o note_v some_o great_a affection_n of_o the_o mind_n be_v add_v and_o thus_o do_v they_o come_v to_o a_o great_a assurance_n at_o the_o last_o i_o mean_v by_o this_o continuance_n in_o fervent_a prayer_n so_o in_o all_o the_o other_o psalm_n of_o david_n which_o we_o allege_v before_o we_o see_v that_o he_o pray_v not_o cold_o or_o in_o a_o word_n but_o very_o earnest_o often_o and_o long_o before_o he_o profess_v this_o assurance_n therefore_o if_o we_o will_v come_v unto_o it_o in_o our_o measure_n we_o must_v labour_v to_o have_v the_o feel_n of_o our_o want_n and_o to_o be_v trouble_v for_o it_o and_o so_o pray_v earnest_o we_o must_v come_v also_o in_o the_o faith_n of_o god_n goodness_n and_o hope_v of_o be_v hear_v by_o consider_v the_o promise_n of_o his_o word_n and_o the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o same_o we_o must_v continue_v in_o prayer_n and_o pray_v often_o for_o the_o same_o thing_n so_o shall_v it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o we_o shall_v not_o only_o believe_v beforehand_o general_o that_o god_n will_v hear_v we_o but_o more_o particular_o in_o that_o very_a thing_n that_o we_o pray_v for_o find_v some_o assurance_n increase_v in_o we_o that_o he_o will_v help_v we_o and_o we_o must_v wait_v upon_o he_o also_o to_o have_v a_o great_a assurance_n of_o it_o wrought_v in_o we_o afterward_o therefore_o let_v we_o do_v thus_o and_o see_v whether_o the_o lord_n in_o many_o thing_n that_o we_o pray_v for_o will_v not_o give_v we_o that_o assurance_n that_o he_o will_v help_v we_o some_o way_n or_o other_o either_o by_o mitigate_a the_o thing_n that_o be_v upon_o we_o or_o deliver_v we_o clean_o from_o it_o or_o give_v we_o patience_n under_o it_o or_o increase_a our_o strength_n to_o bear_v it_o or_o turn_v it_o unto_o our_o good_a so_o that_o we_o shall_v see_v the_o more_o we_o pray_v the_o more_o quiet_a shall_v we_o be_v in_o submit_v our_o will_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o assure_v ourselves_o that_o some_o way_n or_o other_o the_o lord_n will_v hear_v we_o and_o help_v us._n and_o furthermore_o concern_v this_o particular_a that_o they_o pray_v for_o even_o for_o david_n their_o king_n they_o have_v this_o assurance_n that_o god_n will_v hear_v he_o other_o how_o we_o may_v be_v assure_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v we_o for_o other_o and_o help_v he_o and_o so_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o many_o faithful_a subject_n and_o people_n in_o this_o land_n have_v in_o like_a manner_n pray_v for_o their_o king_n and_o queen_n and_o governor_n god_n have_v give_v they_o assurance_n that_o he_o have_v hear_v they_o for_o they_o and_o the_o more_o that_o any_o have_v do_v so_o the_o great_a assurance_n have_v they_o have_v as_o many_o pray_n for_o the_o life_n of_o our_o late_a queen_n elizabeth_n god_n do_v not_o only_o preserve_v her_o person_n from_o a_o number_n of_o treason_n intend_v against_o she_o but_o they_o have_v by_o their_o prayer_n comfort_v over_o it_o for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v do_v so_o still_o and_o so_o shall_v we_o now_o have_v for_o his_o most_o excellent_a majesty_n that_o now_o be_v though_o he_o be_v subject_a to_o many_o peril_n as_o appear_v by_o the_o terrible_a murder_n and_o treason_n that_o have_v already_o break_v out_o against_o his_o royal_a person_n and_o whole_a progeny_n that_o if_o we_o use_v to_o pray_v often_o for_o he_o public_o and_o private_o and_o that_o fervent_o with_o all_o our_o desire_n and_o believe_v that_o he_o be_v the_o lord_n anoint_a that_o be_v that_o he_o be_v set_v over_o we_o by_o the_o lord_n in_o his_o just_a title_n and_o inheritance_n king_n as_o for_o the_o king_n that_o the_o lord_n who_o be_v the_o defender_n of_o all_o right_a will_v not_o only_o preserve_v he_o still_o maugre_o their_o head_n as_o hitherto_o he_o have_v do_v but_o will_v assure_v we_o of_o it_o in_o some_o good_a measure_n that_o we_o shall_v quiet_o submit_v ourselves_o to_o his_o peaceable_a and_o gracious_a government_n and_o not_o great_o fear_v the_o malicious_a attempt_n of_o he_o and_o our_o enemy_n but_o as_o he_o be_v religious_a himself_o and_o use_v to_o pray_v for_o himself_o and_o put_v his_o trust_n in_o god_n so_o we_o pray_v often_o also_o and_o earnest_o for_o he_o shall_v know_v more_o and_o more_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v hear_v he_o and_o we_o for_o he_o and_o this_o be_v true_a not_o only_o of_o our_o governor_n but_o of_o all_o man_n so_o that_o if_o we_o use_v to_o pray_v often_o for_o other_o and_o if_o they_o have_v make_v know_v and_o commend_v their_o estate_n unto_o we_o to_o that_o end_n and_o we_o thereupon_o be_v fervent_a with_o the_o lord_n for_o they_o plague_n and_o for_o they_o that_o be_v visit_v with_o the_o plague_n it_o will_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o not_o only_o the_o lord_n will_v hear_v we_o for_o they_o but_o we_o shall_v have_v good_a hope_n of_o it_o and_o so_o we_o shall_v have_v comfort_n beforehand_o that_o god_n will_v do_v good_a unto_o they_o and_o the_o often_o that_o we_o pray_v for_o any_o in_o any_o distress_n of_o they_o the_o more_o assurance_n shall_v we_o have_v god_n in_o his_o good_a time_n will_v hear_v we_o for_o they_o and_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o in_o this_o time_n of_o sickness_n and_o mortality_n many_o have_v find_v this_o to_o be_v true_a by_o experience_n that_o by_o continual_a and_o fervent_a prayer_n they_o have_v not_o only_o obtain_v this_o assurance_n for_o themselves_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v help_v they_o but_o for_o other_o let_v that_o experience_n move_v we_o for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v to_o pray_v still_o for_o those_o that_o be_v in_o this_o visitation_n or_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o it_o that_o we_o may_v know_v at_o the_o last_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v hear_v we_o for_o they_o also_o and_o help_v they_o in_o his_o bless_a time_n by_o the_o mighty_a power_n of_o his_o right_a hand_n which_o we_o beseech_v he_o that_o we_o may_v find_v at_o his_o merciful_a hand_n for_o jesus_n christ_n sake_n our_o mediator_n and_o redeemer_n amen_n the_o twenty_o sermon_n upon_o the_o sixth_o verse_n i_o know_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v help_v his_o anointed_n and_o will_v hear_v he_o from_o etc._n etc._n prayer_n why_o the_o number_n be_v change_v in_o the_o singular_a number_n or_o person_n of_o one_o not_o only_o for_o this_o cause_n that_o we_o have_v already_o hear_v of_o namely_o to_o teach_v they_o all_o that_o they_o shall_v labour_v to_o pray_v in_o this_o faith_n that_o god_n will_v hear_v they_o all_o and_o every_o one_o of_o they_o but_o also_o to_o show_v that_o as_o david_n the_o
verse_n 22._o to_o slay_v and_o destroy_v they_o &_o when_o they_o have_v make_v a_o end_n of_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o seir_n every_o one_o help_v to_o destroy_v another_o here_o we_o see_v also_o in_o this_o common_a danger_n and_o fear_n when_o many_o pray_v together_o there_o be_v one_o man_n at_o the_o least_o to_o who_o god_n give_v this_o assurance_n to_o the_o great_a comfort_n of_o all_o the_o rest_n that_o he_o do_v open_o say_v now_o i_o know_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v hear_v his_o anointed_n and_o help_v he_o from_o heaven_n by_o the_o mighty_a power_n of_o his_o right_a hand_n and_o though_o other_o in_o that_o company_n can_v not_o say_v so_o yet_o god_n give_v it_o to_o he_o for_o all_o the_o rest_n who_o if_o he_o have_v be_v want_v the_o rest_n may_v still_o have_v languish_v in_o their_o fear_n unless_o god_n have_v raise_v up_o the_o spirit_n of_o some_o other_o godly_a in_o this_o respect_n we_o ought_v to_o make_v of_o the_o company_n and_o presence_n of_o the_o godly_a and_o so_o we_o see_v what_o a_o bless_a thing_n it_o be_v to_o have_v such_o a_o faithful_a and_o zealous_a man_n in_o their_o company_n to_o pray_v for_o they_o therefore_o let_v we_o make_v much_o of_o the_o company_n of_o the_o godly_a especial_o let_v we_o be_v desirous_a to_o be_v partaker_n of_o their_o prayer_n that_o when_o as_o we_o be_v weak_a ourselves_o and_o discomfort_a in_o ourselves_o yet_o we_o may_v be_v strengthen_v and_o uphold_v by_o they_o for_o as_o when_o one_o lie_v very_o sick_a and_o like_a to_o die_v and_o all_o about_o he_o be_v in_o fear_n of_o it_o there_o may_v be_v a_o skilful_a physician_n or_o some_o of_o great_a experience_n who_o may_v see_v great_a token_n of_o life_n in_o he_o more_o than_o all_o the_o rest_n &_o so_o comfort_v they_o in_o hope_n of_o it_o when_o they_o be_v all_o discourage_v so_o when_o many_o be_v in_o trouble_n and_o look_v for_o no_o way_n but_o one_o as_o we_o say_v the_o lord_n may_v so_o open_a the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n of_o one_o who_o by_o faith_n after_o earnest_a prayer_n may_v see_v into_o that_o help_n that_o god_n have_v promise_v in_o his_o word_n and_o comfort_v they_o with_o the_o hope_n of_o it_o and_o for_o want_v of_o this_o we_o be_v many_o time_n more_o dismay_v in_o trouble_n than_o otherwise_o we_o may_v be_v therefore_o in_o all_o affliction_n if_o we_o teach_v the_o people_n also_o so_o to_o do_v that_o god_n will_v help_v his_o anointed_n by_o which_o word_n he_o mean_v himself_o and_o they_o mean_v david_n their_o king_n who_o be_v so_o call_v because_o he_o be_v anoint_v with_o holy_a oil_n to_o be_v king_n according_a to_o the_o custom_n of_o that_o time_n by_o which_o as_o by_o a_o outward_a visible_a ceremony_n they_o that_o be_v make_v king_n be_v separate_v and_o put_v apart_o from_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o people_n and_o invest_v into_o that_o office_n and_o high_a call_n whereby_o also_o they_o be_v teach_v to_o labour_v for_o be_v their_o king_n and_o he_o be_v no_o tyrant_n or_o usurper_n that_o therefore_o god_n will_v preserve_v he_o in_o that_o place_n whereunto_o he_o have_v call_v he_o and_o so_o from_o the_o lawfulness_n of_o his_o call_n he_o do_v comfort_v himself_o and_o they_o that_o god_n will_v hear_v they_o for_o he_o and_o defend_v he_o and_o true_o there_o be_v great_a reason_n of_o that_o for_o if_o a_o earthly_a king_n when_o he_o appoint_v any_o to_o be_v judge_n over_o his_o people_n do_v also_o protect_v they_o in_o that_o office_n by_o his_o law_n and_o by_o all_o his_o subject_n so_o inferior_a officer_n to_o attend_v upon_o they_o because_o they_o represent_v the_o king_n person_n and_o the_o judge_n he_o comfort_v himself_o in_o all_o his_o lawful_a affair_n against_o all_o the_o desperate_a attempt_n of_o thief_n witch_n murderer_n and_o all_o malefactor_n that_o seek_v to_o hurt_v he_o that_o the_o king_n who_o have_v call_v he_o to_o that_o place_n will_v defend_v he_o in_o it_o and_o not_o suffer_v he_o to_o sustain_v any_o damage_n for_o the_o execute_n of_o his_o office_n then_o the_o lord_n the_o king_n of_o king_n appoint_v david_n in_o this_o place_n and_o make_v he_o to_o be_v his_o vicegerent_n upon_o earth_n over_o that_o people_n much_o more_o will_v defend_v he_o in_o it_o against_o his_o enemy_n and_o as_o this_o be_v true_a so_o he_o do_v believe_v it_o and_o teach_v they_o so_o to_o do_v and_o to_o pray_v in_o that_o faith_n that_o god_n will_v send_v help_n unto_o he_o because_o he_o be_v his_o anointed_n and_o this_o that_o david_n say_v here_o prince_n so_o may_v all_o lawful_a prince_n be_v true_a not_o only_o of_o his_o own_o person_n but_o of_o all_o other_o king_n and_o prince_n that_o be_v the_o lord_n anoint_v that_o be_v who_o be_v come_v to_o their_o kingdom_n lawful_o either_o by_o free_a election_n or_o lineal_a descent_n and_o so_o be_v put_v in_o by_o god_n it_o be_v true_a i_o say_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v defend_v they_o in_o all_o their_o lawful_a attempt_n which_o they_o take_v in_o hand_n
god_n have_v deliver_v he_o from_o great_a danger_n and_o will_v do_v so_o still_o 1.8_o 2._o cor._n 1.8_o so_o that_o they_o will_v pray_v earnest_o for_o he_o brethren_n say_v he_o we_o will_v not_o have_v you_o ignorant_a of_o our_o affliction_n which_o come_v unto_o we_o in_o asia_n how_o we_o be_v press_v out_o of_o measure_n pass_v strength_n so_o that_o we_o altogether_o doubt_v even_o of_o he_o believe_v that_o he_o may_v get_v great_a good_a by_o the_o earnest_a prayer_n of_o other_o and_o therefore_o do_v desire_v they_o together_o great_a thing_n may_v be_v obtain_v when_o many_o pray_v together_o even_o to_o be_v deliver_v by_o the_o power_n of_o they_o from_o many_o great_a danger_n and_o it_o may_v be_v if_o we_o have_v mark_v the_o experience_n of_o ourselves_o and_o other_o that_o we_o may_v well_o remember_v what_o great_a deliverance_n have_v be_v grant_v when_o other_o have_v labour_v in_o prayer_n for_o we_o or_o we_o for_o they_o if_o not_o we_o may_v see_v it_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o time_n to_o come_v but_o very_o few_o account_n prayer_n such_o a_o labour_n or_o strive_v as_o it_o be_v and_o so_o go_v to_o it_o cold_o and_o trust_v to_o their_o own_o strength_n and_o so_o obtain_v nothing_o paul_n hope_n be_v in_o this_o that_o other_o shall_v strive_v with_o he_o in_o prayer_n so_o we_o may_v have_v great_a hope_n if_o we_o seek_v for_o help_v at_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o and_o do_v not_o trust_v to_o our_o own_o too_o much_o if_o thus_o in_o all_o matter_n of_o moment_n we_o desire_v the_o prayer_n of_o other_o according_a to_o our_o need_n it_o will_v come_v to_o pass_v other_o what_o comfort_n we_o may_v have_v when_o we_o have_v desire_v the_o prayer_n of_o other_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o want_v the_o fruit_n of_o they_o see_v the_o lord_n have_v promise_v to_o hear_v they_o but_o howsoever_o thing_n fall_v out_o with_o we_o we_o shall_v have_v this_o comfort_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n that_o we_o have_v neglect_v no_o mean_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v for_o our_o good_a but_o if_o we_o be_v careless_a of_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o and_o so_o do_v not_o seek_v for_o they_o beside_o that_o it_o may_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o we_o shall_v fail_v of_o our_o purpose_n through_o our_o own_o default_n as_o when_o one_o strive_v alone_o he_o can_v overcome_v because_o he_o have_v none_o to_o join_v with_o he_o or_o at_o least_o he_o shall_v not_o obtain_v it_o so_o soon_o as_o otherwise_o he_o may_v as_o when_o one_o be_v about_o a_o thing_n alone_o he_o be_v the_o long_o a_o do_v it_o we_o shall_v have_v the_o less_o comfort_n or_o more_o grief_n because_o we_o neglect_v some_o mean_n that_o may_v have_v do_v we_o good_a we_o must_v then_o be_v persuade_v that_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o may_v do_v we_o good_a and_o that_o we_o need_v they_o and_o so_o according_o desire_v they_o in_o the_o day_n of_o ignorance_n and_o superstition_n man_n give_v much_o to_o have_v a_o continual_a mass_n for_o they_o that_o be_v they_o in_o popery_n they_o maintain_v other_o to_o pray_v for_o they_o to_o pray_v for_o their_o soul_n and_o there_o be_v beadman_n also_o as_o they_o call_v they_o appoint_v for_o that_o purpose_n to_o pray_v for_o the_o live_n and_o for_o the_o dead_a and_o be_v maintain_v by_o the_o good_n of_o the_o church_n to_o that_o end_n which_o prayer_n of_o they_o because_o they_o be_v in_o a_o unknown_a tongue_n and_o so_o without_o understanding_n and_o also_o not_o according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o so_o without_o faith_n can_v do_v they_o no_o good_a yet_o this_o truth_n they_o aim_v at_o though_o in_o darkness_n and_o as_o blind_a man_n that_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o be_v so_o available_a for_o they_o that_o even_o in_o that_o respect_n only_o they_o give_v much_o yearly_a unto_o those_o that_o shall_v pray_v for_o they_o and_o true_o if_o they_o have_v pray_v aright_o they_o may_v by_o their_o prayer_n have_v give_v more_o than_o they_o receive_v for_o they_o may_v have_v obtain_v great_a thing_n of_o the_o lord_n for_o they_o but_o here_o be_v another_o great_a abuse_n of_o that_o time_n in_o these_o prayer_n also_o that_o they_o have_v other_o thus_o to_o pray_v for_o they_o they_o rest_v in_o that_o and_o so_o neglect_v their_o own_o prayer_n the_o more_o and_o think_v that_o they_o may_v do_v it_o with_o the_o less_o danger_n for_o they_o have_v other_o that_o pray_v for_o they_o continual_o and_o so_o that_o that_o be_v want_v in_o themselves_o be_v supply_v by_o other_o david_n be_v of_o another_o mind_n for_o here_o by_o his_o practice_n we_o have_v a_o example_n of_o one_o that_o so_o desire_v the_o prayer_n of_o other_o as_o that_o he_o purpose_v not_o to_o neglect_v prayer_n himself_o or_o to_o use_v it_o any_o whit_n the_o less_o for_o that_o but_o to_o use_v it_o rather_o the_o more_o will_v they_o to_o pray_v god_n to_o hear_v his_o prayer_n so_o that_o if_o he_o do_v not_o pray_v himself_o their_o prayer_n shall_v do_v he_o no_o good_a but_o it_o shall_v be_v all_o one_o with_o he_o as_o if_o one_o shall_v desire_v a_o man_n to_o set_v his_o hand_n to_o a_o blank_a and_o so_o he_o shall_v prefer_v that_o as_o a_o supplication_n for_o he_o to_o the_o prince_n so_o we_o be_v to_o desire_v other_o to_o pray_v for_o we_o but_o in_o the_o mean_a season_n we_o must_v not_o neglect_v to_o pray_v for_o ourselves_o objection_n but_o it_o may_v seem_v superfluous_a and_o more_o than_o need_v that_o david_n shall_v thus_o desire_v the_o prayer_n of_o the_o people_n for_o they_o be_v his_o subject_n and_o therefore_o as_o in_o that_o respect_n they_o do_v owe_v other_o duty_n unto_o he_o so_o this_o of_o prayer_n most_o of_o all_o according_a to_o the_o answer_n yet_o because_o he_o know_v that_o man_n natural_o be_v forgetful_a and_o so_o if_o they_o be_v not_o put_v in_o mind_n of_o it_o they_o may_v either_o whole_o neglect_v it_o or_o not_o do_v it_o so_o thorough_o as_o they_o shall_v he_o put_v they_o in_o mind_n to_o pray_v for_o himself_o and_o give_v they_o a_o form_n of_o it_o and_o so_o tell_v they_o what_o they_o shall_v say_v this_o shall_v move_v we_o to_o put_v our_o dear_a friend_n in_o mind_n of_o we_o and_o call_v upon_o they_o to_o pray_v for_o we_o us._n our_o dear_a friend_n have_v need_v to_o be_v put_v in_o mind_n to_o pray_v for_o us._n yea_o when_o they_o know_v our_o estate_n best_o and_o what_o great_a need_n we_o have_v of_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o for_o they_o may_v forget_v we_o sometime_o though_o they_o wish_v we_o well_o and_o as_o through_o forgetfulness_n they_o may_v neglect_v other_o duty_n which_o yet_o they_o be_v will_v general_o to_o perform_v as_o not_o to_o visit_v we_o to_o send_v to_o we_o to_o write_v to_o we_o as_o often_o as_o they_o shall_v and_o we_o look_v for_o at_o their_o hand_n so_o much_o more_o not_o to_o pray_v for_o we_o for_o many_o time_n they_o that_o do_v the_o former_a in_o great_a measure_n neglect_v this_o whole_o or_o in_o a_o great_a part_n we_o find_v by_o experience_n that_o many_o time_n yea_o when_o we_o be_v speak_v to_o of_o our_o friend_n we_o remember_v not_o all_o but_o forget_v many_o thing_n why_o shall_v we_o not_o think_v then_o that_o other_o may_v forget_v we_o if_o they_o be_v not_o put_v in_o mind_n parent_n be_v bind_v to_o
