have_v cause_n to_o bless_v god_n for_o if_o the_o lord_n come_v in_o never_o such_o a_o terrible_a way_n to_o force_v we_o to_o come_v in_o that_o so_o there_o may_v be_v make_v up_o peace_n between_o god_n and_o we_o the_o lord_n beside_o that_o way_n of_o terror_n and_o wrath_n though_o sometime_o he_o will_v use_v that_o way_n to_o stop_v man_n in_o the_o course_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o to_o force_v they_o to_o come_v in_o he_o go_v forth_o and_o do_v send_v his_o mercy_n to_o stand_v before_o the_o soul_n and_o to_o spread_v the_o beauty_n excellency_n and_o glory_n of_o it_o before_o the_o heart_n of_o
god_n intention_n in_o his_o goodness_n to_o his_o saint_n it_o be_v to_o raise_v up_o to_o himself_o a_o eternal_a name_n of_o praise_n and_o honour_n in_o the_o world_n and_o not_o only_o here_o but_o in_o heaven_n in_o the_o high_a heaven_n eternal_o that_o be_v god_n scope_n not_o only_o in_o some_o mercy_n but_o observe_v it_o in_o every_o mercy_n that_o god_n bestow_v upon_o a_o saint_n upon_o his_o child_n i_o say_v every_o mercy_n every_o outward_a mercy_n god_n have_v this_o end_n in_o it_o to_o raise_v up_o himself_o a_o name_n of_o eternal_a praise_n by_o it_o and_o therefore_o despise_v no_o mercy_n though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o little_a for_o god_n end_n in_o the_o least_o mercy_n thou_o have_v in_o every_o crumb_n of_o bread_n thou_o eat_v it_o be_v to_o raise_v up_o himself_o a_o eternal_a name_n of_o praise_n even_o from_o that_o mercy_n but_o take_v the_o great_a mercy_n that_o god_n bestow_v upon_o the_o very_a worldling_n through_o his_o general_a bounty_n god_n have_v not_o such_o a_o end_n in_o it_o as_o he_o have_v in_o this_o god_n may_v take_v notice_n of_o they_o for_o a_o while_n and_o there_o be_v a_o end_n of_o they_o but_o in_o his_o building_n but_o only_o a_o heap_n of_o stone_n i_o care_v not_o how_o i_o lay_v they_o but_o if_o i_o intend_v to_o raise_v up_o a_o building_n than_o i_o lay_v one_o stone_n as_o it_o may_v prepare_v for_o another_o so_o do_v god_n in_o his_o deal_n with_o the_o wike_v he_o heap_v his_o mercy_n upon_o they_o let_v they_o come_v as_o they_o will_v but_o when_o he_o dispense_v his_o mercy_n to_o his_o people_n than_o he_o intend_v a_o building_n and_o he_o lay_v they_o in_o that_o order_n and_o in_o that_o rank_n first_o one_o and_o then_o another_o so_o as_o when_o he_o have_v lay_v one_o if_o we_o understand_v what_o that_o mercy_n be_v one_o may_v see_v a_o empression_n in_o that_o mercy_n for_o another_o as_o it_o be_v cal_v for_o another_o mercy_n to_o be_v lay_v upon_o it_o these_o be_v the_o special_a ground_n why_o god_n mercy_n to_o his_o people_n be_v but_o preparation_n for_o further_a and_o further_a mercy_n but_o because_o i_o will_v not_o be_v hinder_v church_n he_o go_v a_o little_a way_n and_o then_o he_o stop_v and_o then_o there_o come_v heavy_a judgement_n after_o they_o heavy_a affliction_n present_o ans_fw-fr now_o for_o the_o answer_n of_o that_o 1._o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o we_o must_v of_o necessity_n grant_v that_o there_o may_v be_v some_o interruption_n for_o the_o present_a in_o god_n mercy_n to_o his_o people_n but_o there_o be_v a_o difference_n between_o interruption_n and_o cut_v off_o it_o may_v seem_v for_o the_o present_a to_o be_v interrupt_v but_o it_o run_v under_o ground_n still_o and_o have_v its_o course_n for_o our_o instruction_n in_o god_n deal_v with_o his_o peopel_n in_o bring_v of_o they_o out_o off_o captivity_n and_o repair_v the_o wall_n and_o the_o temple_n god_n have_v make_v many_o glorious_a promise_n to_o his_o people_n what_o he_o will_v do_v for_o they_o in_o return_v they_o from_o captivity_n and_o build_v of_o their_o city_n again_o well_o after_o the_o seventy_o year_n come_v god_n do_v begin_v to_o work_v wonderful_o glorious_o for_o they_o but_o if_o you_o observe_v a_o little_a and_o read_v the_o story_n you_o may_v find_v that_o between_o their_o begin_n to_o return_n from_o the_o captivity_n and_o the_o finish_n of_o god_n mercy_n in_o build_v the_o temple_n and_o the_o wall_n they_o be_v as_o long_o a_o time_n as_o they_o be_v in_o their_o captivity_n that_o be_v seventy_o year_n they_o be_v seaenty_n year_n in_o captivity_n and_o from_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o work_n of_o their_o restore_n to_o the_o end_n of_o it_o they_o be_v seventy_o year_n more_o but_o still_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n run_v along_o there_o be_v a_o eye_n of_o mercy_n and_o goodness_n upon_o they_o though_o it_o seem_v to_o cease_v for_o the_o present_a yet_o it_o carry_v it_o through_o at_o the_o last_o it_o may_v much_o concern_v we_o now_o we_o be_v ready_a to_o be_v discontent_v and_o trouble_v when_o god_n be_v in_o a_o way_n of_o reformation_n because_o we_o have_v not_o all_o present_o all_o be_v not_o come_v now_o just_a when_o we_o will_v have_v it_o we_o be_v ready_a to_o complain_v o_o how_o long_o have_v the_o parliament_n be_v set_v and_o little_a have_v be_v do_v why_o it_o be_v god_n way_n with_o his_o own_o people_n though_o they_o have_v such_o particular_a promise_n of_o that_o glorious_a deliverance_n yet_o it_o be_v seventy_o year_n before_o it_o be_v full_o accomplish_v and_o if_o god_n be_v but_o in_o a_o way_n of_o mercy_n towards_o we_o but_o a_o go_v on_o you_o have_v but_o a_o little_a now_o now_o and_o a_o little_a another_o time_n yet_o we_o be_v not_o to_o repine_v at_o this_o for_o still_o mercy_n be_v go_v on_o though_o there_o may_v be_v interruption_n for_o the_o present_a but_o further_a 2._o many_o time_n we_o think_v there_o be_v a_o interruption_n when_o indeed_o there_o be_v none_o at_o all_o but_o our_o mistake_n if_o we_o do_v but_o understand_v thing_n we_o shall_v see_v a_o most_o beautiful_a concatination_n of_o mercy_n and_o connection_n of_o mercy_n there_o be_v no_o interruption_n yea_o further_o 3._o the_o very_a interruption_n that_o we_o think_v there_o be_v may_v be_v one_o of_o our_o great_a mercy_n god_n cease_v in_o comunicate_v one_o kind_n of_o mercy_n may_v be_v but_o a_o preparation_n for_o another_o kind_n of_o mercy_n for_o a_o great_a mercy_n and_o and_o make-bates_a by_o a_o spirit_n of_o jealousy_n that_o may_v go_v between_o they_o and_o do_v abundance_n of_o mischief_n by_o their_o suggestion_n but_o this_o can_v be_v between_o god_n and_o we_o it_o be_v true_a the_o devil_n will_v be_v continual_o a_o makebate_n between_o god_n and_o thy_o soul_n and_o do_v continual_o go_v before_o god_n to_o accuse_v the_o soul_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v call_v the_o accuser_n of_o the_o brethren_n but_o the_o peace_n that_o be_v make_v up_o between_o god_n and_o a_o soul_n through_o his_o son_n be_v so_o firm_a and_o the_o friendship_n be_v so_o stable_a as_o that_o the_o lord_n shut_v his_o ear_n aganist_n all_o the_o accusation_n that_o can_v be_v make_v against_o his_o friend_n one_o entire_a friend_n can_v endure_v to_o hear_v ill_o of_o another_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o friendship_n begin_v to_o grow_v cold_a when_o they_o be_v willing_a to_o hear_v of_o any_o evil_n against_o their_o friend_n the_o lord_n will_v not_o listen_v to_o the_o least_o accusation_n that_o be_v make_v by_o satan_n against_o his_o friend_n he_o will_v not_o so_o much_o as_o be_v willing_a to_o hear_v of_o any_o thing_n speak_v against_o his_o people_n such_o a_o perfect_a and_o through_o and_o firm_a peace_n be_v there_o make_v between_o the_o soul_n and_o god_n chap._n 5._o twelve_o bless_a consequenc_n of_o our_o reconciliation_n but_o now_o that_o which_o i_o special_o intend_v shall_v have_v be_v to_o have_v show_v you_o some_o consequence_n of_o this_o peace_n and_o therein_o i_o shall_v have_v show_v you_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o reconciliation_n i_o will_v give_v you_o the_o particular_n thereof_o very_o brief_o the_o first_o consequence_n first_o hence_o follow_v peace_n with_o all_o the_o creature_n ground_n of_o the_o looseness_n of_o their_o conversation_n thus_o i_o have_v endeavour_v to_o help_v you_o to_o examine_v your_o peace_n whether_o it_o be_v true_a or_o no._n if_o you_o can_v upon_o these_o sign_n or_o note_n conclude_v your_o peace_n to_o be_v right_a blessed_n be_v you_o go_v your_o way_n rejoice_v and_o join_v with_o the_o angel_n in_o their_o song_n glory_n be_v to_o god_n in_o heaven_n and_o peace_n on_o earth_n glory_n be_v to_o the_o great_a god_n that_o be_v on_o high_a that_o have_v not_o only_o make_v peace_n on_o earth_n but_o make_v peace_n in_o my_o bosom_n of_o it_o or_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o it_o we_o will_v never_o be_v at_o rest_n in_o any_o thing_n till_o we_o come_v to_o be_v assure_v that_o it_o be_v we_o you_o will_v say_v what_o shall_v we_o do_v i_o answer_v though_o we_o know_v that_o it_o be_v the_o great_a work_n of_o christ_n to_o make_v our_o peace_n with_o god_n yet_o god_n require_v this_o and_o in_o require_v it_o if_o you_o belong_v to_o he_o he_o will_v convey_v some_o secret_a influence_n of_o his_o grace_n into_o you_o to_o enable_v you_o to_o do_v it_o be_v will_v give_v you_o a_o heart_n to_o labour_v for_o it_o which_o indeed_o be_v one_o sign_n of_o our_o peace_n help_v 1_o and_o therefore_o let_v i_o persuade_v you_o to_o do_v what_o you_o can_v do_v but_o keep_v for_o the_o present_a from_o the_o outward_a act_n of_o sin_n and_o do_v not_o wilful_o give_v way_n to_o the_o inward_a or_o outward_a act_n of_o sin_n labour_v to_o get_v your_o heart_n to_o this_o that_o may_v you_o say_v the_o lord_n know_v i_o do_v not_o wilful_o yield_v to_o any_o know_a sin_n convince_v your_o heart_n possess_v your_o heart_n thorough_o with_o this_o that_o it_o be_v the_o great_a scripture_n in_o isa_n 27.5_o that_o have_v some_o difficulty_n for_o the_o understanding_n of_o it_o but_o it_o be_v very_o sweet_a if_o right_o understand_v let_v he_o take_v hold_n of_o my_o strength_n that_o he_o may_v make_v peace_n with_o i_o and_o he_o shall_v make_v peace_n with_o i_o it_o be_v a_o strange_a kind_n of_o phrase_n and_o i_o find_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n among_o interpreter_n about_o this_o text_n i_o find_v mr._n calvin_n that_o usual_o hit_v as_o right_o as_o most_o carry_v of_o it_o by_o way_n of_o interogation_n and_o so_o he_o say_v you_o may_v read_v it_o thus_o will_v he_o take_v hold_v of_o my_o strength_n that_o he_o may_v make_v peace_n with_o i_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v what_o will_v he_o do_v will_v he_o stay_v so_o long_o till_o he_o come_v to_o be_v make_v sensible_a of_o my_o power_n upon_o he_o and_o of_o my_o strength_n to_o bring_v he_o down_o and_o than_o it_o may_v be_v he_o will_v make_v peace_n with_o i_o thus_o many_o do_v they_o stay_v till_o god_n come_v to_o make_v they_o sensible_a of_o his_o power_n and_o of_o his_o strength_n and_o then_o they_o will_v make_v their_o peace_n with_o god_n but_o i_o can_v hardly_o think_v this_o to_o be_v the_o scope_n only_o it_o be_v a_o very_a good_a meditation_n to_o set_v god_n before_o you_o in_o his_o power_n &_o in_o his_o strength_n &_o in_o his_o glory_n and_o to_o meditate_v with_o yourselves_o thus_o o_o if_o the_o lord_n shall_v come_v now_o and_o make_v i_o apprehensive_a and_o sensible_a of_o that_o power_n and_o strength_n of_o he_o indeed_o this_o will_v stir_v up_o my_o heart_n to_o seek_v to_o make_v my_o peace_n with_o he_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o there_o come_v so_o many_o shriek_n and_o cry_n from_o soul_n when_o they_o be_v sensible_a of_o god_n power_n and_o strength_n o_o they_o well_o know_v what_o a_o mighty_a god_n they_o have_v to_o do_v withal_o the_o truth_n be_v the_o reason_n why_o man_n do_v not_o make_v it_o their_o work_n now_o to_o seek_v reconciliation_n and_o peace_n with_o god_n it_o be_v because_o they_o be_v not_o apprehensive_a of_o the_o power_n and_o majesty_n and_o glory_n that_o be_v in_o god_n how_o god_n be_v above_o they_o and_o can_v bring_v they_o under_o and_o make_v they_o vile_a and_o base_a when_o he_o please_v therefore_o it_o be_v a_o good_a interpretation_n of_o the_o word_n will_v he_o take_v hold_v or_o apprehend_v my_o strength_n so_o the_o word_n signify_v that_o he_o may_v make_v peace_n with_o i_o but_o to_o i_o the_o meaning_n be_v rather_o this_o will_v he_o rather_o make_v use_n of_o my_o goodness_n and_o my_o mercy_n and_o so_o make_v peace_n with_o i_o for_o that_o be_v the_o strength_n that_o be_v here_o mean_v and_o that_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o from_o the_o dependence_n only_o first_o
god_n rich_a grace_n even_o in_o this_o one_o branch_n of_o the_o gospel_n his_o beginning_n the_o work_n of_o reconciliation_n use_v 2._o and_o then_o another_o use_n of_o it_o may_v be_v this_o to_o fear_v he_o he_o will_v not_o cast_v we_o off_o certain_o no_o it_o be_v better_a with_o we_o now_o than_o before_o when_o we_o be_v enemy_n unto_o he_o and_o desperate_a enemy_n it_o have_v be_v then_o no_o wonder_n if_o god_n have_v cast_v we_o off_o and_o send_v we_o to_o our_o own_o place_n to_o lie_v for_o ever_o under_o the_o infinite_a burden_n of_o his_o wrath_n but_o the_o lord_n have_v then_o thought_n of_o peace_n towards_o we_o it_o be_v therefore_o now_o far_o otherwise_o with_o we_o though_o it_o be_v true_a we_o have_v many_o corruption_n in_o we_o but_o we_o can_v appeal_v unto_o god_n that_o our_o soul_n love_v he_o and_o that_o the_o desire_n of_o our_o heart_n be_v to_o fear_v and_o serve_v he_o we_o can_v in_o some_o measure_n be_v able_a to_o say_v lord_n thou_o that_o know_v all_o thing_n know_v that_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o world_n our_o soul_n desire_v more_o than_o to_o overcome_v these_o corruption_n there_o be_v no_o burden_n in_o all_o the_o world_n like_v unto_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n there_o be_v nothing_o so_o grievous_a to_o we_o as_o this_o that_o we_o have_v such_o vile_a heart_n and_o nature_n that_o can_v serve_v he_o no_o better_o than_o we_o do_v and_o if_o god_n shall_v ask_v we_o what_o we_o will_v have_v from_o he_o we_o can_v say_v in_o the_o sincerity_n of_o our_o soul_n lord_n thou_o know_v we_o will_v not_o ask_v riches_n or_o honour_n to_o be_v king_n and_o prince_n in_o the_o world_n but_o oh_o that_o we_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o the_o remayner_n of_o the_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o our_o heart_n from_o such_o and_o such_o distemper_n of_o our_o soul_n whereby_o we_o dishonour_v thy_o name_n continual_o certain_o if_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n be_v in_o this_o disposition_n they_o may_v gather_v a_o comfortable_a argument_n to_o themselves_o and_o conclude_v thus_o there_o be_v a_o time_n that_o i_o go_v on_o as_o a_o dsperate_a enemy_n unto_o god_n and_o i_o live_v without_o god_n of_o it_o no_o wonder_n god_n show_v mercy_n to_o such_o soul_n so_o unworthy_a and_o so_o vild_a why_o because_o the_o blood_n of_o his_o son_n cry_v for_o mercy_n chap._n 55._o christ_n
