a_o proud_a opinion_n that_o he_o will_v believe_v another_o truth_n than_o he_o so_o that_o lust_n and_o opinion_n be_v the_o two_o great_a enemy_n of_o faith_n but_o if_o thou_o haste_v some_o ability_n out_o of_o christ_n in_o thyself_o what_o 1._o needs_o thou_o faith_n to_o believe_v in_o he_o or_o to_o pray_v he_o 2._o why_o do_v thou_o not_o conquer_v thy_o lust_n and_o free_v thyself_o as_o thou_o seem_v to_o desire_v 2._o whatever_o then_o man_n desire_v here_o he_o must_v have_v it_o for_o it_o be_v not_o else_o whereto_o be_v have_v whether_o peace_n forgiveness_n assurance_n comfort_n rest_v here_o it_o be_v lay_v up_o &_o give_v to_o the_o needy_a he_o have_v always_o to_o deal_v with_o such_o &_o none_o else_o 3._o happy_a than_o he_o that_o live_v by_o limitation_n viz._n that_o none_o by_o the_o wit_n of_o man_n be_v able_a to_o know_v i_o &_o power_n &_o wisdom_n &_o mercy_n &_o truth_n and_o way_n of_o happiness_n that_o be_v hide_v in_o i_o but_o who_o the_o father_n do_v teach_v &_o uphold_v by_o his_o power_n but_o i_o that_o know_v it_o in_o he_o true_o &_o those_o to_o who_o i_o reveal_v it_o by_o my_o word_n and_o spirit_n through_o the_o cross_n &_o way_n of_o death_n for_o it_o be_v a_o unknown_a way_n to_o the_o world_n that_o by_o death_n shall_v come_v life_n and_o by_o sorrow_n and_o suffering_n joy_n and_o freedom_n so_o that_o no_o power_n or_o possibility_n in_o man_n by_o the_o strength_n
for_o this_o than_o all_o other_o sin_n in_o the_o world_n 1._o woe_n then_o to_o the_o deaf_a ear_n and_o hard_a heart_n of_o man_n that_o can_v neither_o hear_v nor_o believe_v what_o god_n say_v so_o that_o to_o some_o we_o see_v 1._o it_o be_v but_o a_o fable_n and_o a_o thing_n of_o no_o account_n 2._o other_o reverence_v it_o and_o seek_v to_o know_v and_o coveâ—_n themselves_o under_o it_o 3._o other_o be_v strike_v with_o the_o glory_n and_o majesty_n thereof_o but_o flee_v to_o their_o own_o invention_n be_v cure_v and_o fly_v high_a above_o it_o 4._o other_o be_v fill_v and_o be_v the_o sure_a foundation_n to_o be_v wait_v on_o until_o the_o day_n dawn_n and_o the_o day_n star_n arise_v &_o they_o by_o the_o way_n side_n these_o be_v four_o sort_n of_o man_n in_o the_o church_n the_o 1._o be_v like_o the_o high_a way_n which_o be_v so_o tread_v by_o the_o daily_a path_n of_o man_n that_o it_o be_v harden_v and_o the_o seed_n can_v take_v no_o root_n therein_o such_o be_v in_o the_o church_n so_o that_o those_o in_o who_o the_o world_n and_o lust_n have_v a_o daily_a &_o continual_a path_n and_o custom_n become_v so_o harden_v thereby_o that_o the_o gospel_n take_v little_a effect_n with_o they_o so_o have_v israel_n isa_n 28._o that_o they_o make_v a_o mock_n of_o the_o prophet_n so_o the_o young_a lawyer_n 1._o for_o hereby_o the_o heart_n be_v fill_v and_o sore_o stall_v psal_n 119._o they_o be_v as_o fat_a as_o brawn_n &_o regard_v not_o thy_o law_n 2._o hereby_o be_v the_o ear_n stop_v and_o the_o heart_n harden_v like_o a_o drunkard_n that_o they_o can_v hear_v nor_o mind_n nothing_o 3._o for_o if_o that_o every_o passage_n of_o the_o world_n leave_v such_o a_o wound_n as_o in_o david_n what_o a_o bondage_n when_o it_o have_v a_o path_n christ_n no_o believe_v of_o this_o wonder_n but_o in_o death_n that_o man_n mere_a want_n and_o misery_n force_v he_o to_o believe_v this_o saviour_n for_o no_o reason_n can_v persuade_v a_o dead_a and_o curse_a man_n but_o the_o mighty_a word_n of_o god_n which_o man_n may_v not_o argue_v how_o like_a or_o unlike_o it_o be_v but_o that_o be_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n for_o ever_o but_o these_o be_v two_o principle_n that_o be_v least_o mind_v or_o believe_v we_o frame_v a_o religion_n of_o high_a thought_n and_o make_v a_o trade_n of_o many_o device_n so_o that_o the_o simplicity_n of_o the_o truth_n be_v hide_v by_o the_o wit_n and_o device_n of_o man_n and_o herein_o we_o trade_n for_o our_o praise_n and_o gain_v but_o to_o believe_v the_o book_n of_o the_o generation_n of_o jesus_n christ_n this_o too_o law_n for_o their_o deep_a judgement_n no_o they_o have_v learn_v this_o long_a since_o they_o have_v see_v their_o misery_n but_o they_o be_v heal_v they_o be_v wound_v by_o the_o word_n but_o they_o have_v cure_v and_o cover_v it_o so_o that_o now_o the_o word_n can_v fasten_v on_o they_o they_o be_v wise_a and_o foreknow_v all_o thing_n and_o so_o able_a to_o award_n the_o blow_n and_o for_o this_o book_n of_o the_o generation_n of_o jesus_n christ_n they_o know_v it_o and_o can_v comprehend_v it_o and_o dispute_v and_o prate_v of_o it_o and_o have_v mangle_v and_o cut_v add_v and_o diminish_v but_o live_v not_o by_o it_o and_o so_o full_a of_o opinion_n and_o windy_a conceit_n of_o all_o truth_n but_o believe_v it_o not_o that_o this_o christ_n last_o 1._o see_v those_o miserable_a saviour_n that_o we_o frame_v as_o the_o world_n or_o wisdom_n or_o self-righteousnesse_n these_o we_o get_v but_o yet_o we_o be_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o our_o enemy_n our_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o fear_n and_o death_n be_v a_o terror_n to_o we_o 2._o this_o saviour_n be_v bear_v and_o give_v to_o none_o but_o condemn_v man_n like_o a_o murderer_n that_o can_v find_v no_o way_n to_o escape_v go_v to_o the_o king_n and_o confess_v and_o cry_n for_o mercy_n the_o king_n pardon_v for_o his_o own_o glory_n etc._n etc._n 3._o but_o know_v that_o our_o
