under_o a_o shrewd_a temptation_n but_o tell_v i_o must_v man_n sell_v their_o soul_n to_o the_o devil_n for_o ever_o for_o the_o gain_v here_o we_o know_v not_o how_o soon_o we_o must_v leave_v we_o the_o better_a order_n and_o decency_n of_o the_o administration_n that_o some_o shall_v be_v the_o mouth_n of_o the_o child_n and_o true_o as_o to_o the_o represent_v part_n there_o seem_v to_o i_o to_o be_v as_o great_a reason_n for_o that_o as_o that_o all_o thing_n in_o divine_a administration_n shall_v be_v do_v decent_o and_o in_o order_n as_o the_o apostle_n command_v 1_o cor._n 14.40_o for_o why_o you_o be_v not_o again_o to_o be_v tell_v that_o this_o whole_a solemnity_n of_o baptism_n be_v the_o transact_n of_o a_o covenant_n with_o god_n a_o covenant_n wherein_o both_o party_n concern_v be_v either_o personal_o themselves_o or_o by_o other_o as_o their_o proxy_n to_o make_v mutual_a engagement_n one_o to_o another_o to_o perform_v each_o his_o part_n of_o the_o covenant_n now_o god_n who_o be_v the_o first_o and_o prime_a party_n in_o this_o covenant_n he_o true_a it_o be_v be_v sufficient_a for_o these_o thing_n of_o himself_o and_o needs_o no_o other_o to_o engage_v for_o he_o yet_o in_o compassion_n to_o our_o infirmity_n who_o can_v bear_v the_o majesty_n of_o god_n presence_n hence_o the_o israelite_n after_o the_o thunder_n and_o lightning_n on_o mount_n sinai_n pray_v he_o will_v speak_v to_o they_o by_o his_o servant_n moses_n lest_o they_o shall_v die_v though_o god_n need_v not_o i_o say_v to_o treat_v with_o we_o by_o proxy_n yet_o in_o his_o part_n to_o this_o purpose_n say_v a_o father_n since_o for_o want_v of_o age_n child_n can_v believe_v with_o the_o heart_n to_o righteousness_n nor_o confess_v with_o the_o mouth_n unto_o salvation_n therefore_o other_o answer_v for_o they_o that_o the_o sacrament_n may_v be_v admit_v complete_o to_o '_o they_o it_o will_v indeed_o seem_v to_o i_o a_o very_a odd_a and_o indecent_a and_o disorderly_a thing_n extreme_o unlike_o the_o usual_a way_n of_o transact_a covenant_n when_o one_o and_o he_o so_o great_a a_o party_n concern_v as_o god_n shall_v vouchsafe_v to_o make_v over_o by_o his_o proxy_n the_o minister_n of_o the_o covenant_n express_v assurance_n of_o infinite_a mercy_n the_o other_o party_n a_o poor_a wretched_a creature_n in_o who_o favour_n this_o be_v do_v shall_v not_o have_v a_o mouth_n either_o by_o himself_o or_o other_o to_o make_v a_o open_a and_o solemn_a protestation_n of_o acceptance_n of_o those_o gracious_a term_n and_o of_o sincere_a resolution_n to_o perform_v his_o part_n a_o silence_n on_o his_o side_n will_v look_v like_o a_o sullen_a ungrateful_a refusal_n of_o such_o gracious_a overture_n and_o term_n of_o mercy_n the_o most_o indecent_a and_o disorderly_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n the_o administration_n will_v be_v extreme_o indecent_a without_o a_o proxy_n to_o represent_v the_o infant_n and_o indeed_o so_o much_o be_v the_o honour_n of_o god_n and_o of_o the_o church_n it_o it_o be_v of_o concernment_n to_o the_o church_n that_o security_n be_v give_v that_o every_o one_o who_o be_v admit_v a_o member_n into_o it_o shall_v live_v to_o the_o reputation_n and_o interest_n of_o it_o and_o of_o the_o christian_a religion_n concern_v that_o no_o person_n be_v enter_v into_o the_o profession_n of_o the_o gospel_n who_o will_v not_o live_v answerable_o to_o it_o that_o it_o be_v high_o fit_a it_o be_v extreme_o requisite_a all_o possible_a security_n shall_v be_v first_o give_v to_o god_n and_o his_o church_n
