and_o infidel_n for_o we_o see_v that_o the_o turk_n and_o idolater_n do_v great_o pray_v unto_o god_n but_o after_o what_o manner_n pray_v they_o forsooth_o even_o at_o all_o adventure_n so_o that_o they_o know_v not_o what_o they_o do_v but_o contrariwise_o we_o must_v pray_v unto_o he_o with_o full_a assurance_n that_o he_o will_v hear_v us._n but_o from_o whence_o shall_v this_o certainty_n proceed_v if_o we_o have_v not_o the_o truth_n to_o go_v before_o we_o and_o say_v behold_v the_o lord_n who_o call_v we_o unto_o he_o and_o then_o when_o we_o come_v unto_o he_o this_o be_v no_o foolish_a presumption_n but_o we_o come_v in_o such_o sort_n unto_o he_o as_o he_o have_v command_v us._n let_v we_o then_o see_v what_o we_o have_v yet_o to_o note_v in_o this_o place_n when_o a_o very_a profitable_a point_n to_o be_v consider_v off_o to_o wit_n after_o that_o we_o be_v once_o assure_v that_o god_n have_v promise_v too_o do_v that_o for_o we_o which_o we_o shall_v ask_v of_o he_o we_o must_v no_o more_o doubt_n that_o it_o shall_v be_v so_o but_o that_o the_o thing_n be_v full_o conclude_v upon_o so_o that_o we_o be_v ever_o sure_a and_o certain_a thereof_o for_o when_o god_n speak_v unto_o we_o we_o be_v very_o sure_a that_o he_o will_v not_o deceive_v we_o he_o will_v not_o give_v we_o fair_a word_n and_o then_o deceive_v we_o as_o man_n many_o time_n do_v deal_v very_o liberal_o with_o their_o tongue_n but_o yet_o notwithstanding_o very_o close_o fist_v but_o god_n deal_v not_o in_o such_o sort_n let_v we_o then_o come_v before_o he_o without_o distrust_n have_v we_o his_o word_n let_v we_o then_o hold_v the_o thing_n as_o already_o perform_v and_o so_o when_o david_n say_v according_a to_o thy_o word_n he_o signify_v unto_o we_o that_o he_o be_v not_o only_o assure_v that_o god_n be_v faithful_a and_o liberal_a that_o he_o mean_v not_o to_o abuse_v we_o when_o as_o we_o trust_v to_o he_o but_o show_v we_o that_o this_o certainty_n which_o we_o have_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n shall_v not_o make_v we_o weary_a to_o say_v that_o we_o be_v as_o it_o be_v even_o overwhelm_v but_o we_o must_v rather_o be_v careful_a and_o diligent_a to_o pray_v unto_o he_o there_o be_v some_o man_n which_o will_v in_o deed_n say_v that_o they_o believe_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n but_o since_o say_v they_o he_o know_v what_o we_o have_v need_n of_o what_o need_v we_o to_o be_v importune_a upon_o he_o now_o these_o man_n indeed_o very_o well_o declare_v that_o they_o never_o understand_v what_o faith_n and_o hope_n be_v for_o if_o we_o receive_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n without_o hypocrisy_n we_o ought_v to_o be_v thus_o earnest_a and_o zealous_a to_o pray_v and_o have_v recourse_n unto_o he_o say_v o_o lord_n god_n when_o as_o thou_o have_v assure_v i_o of_o thy_o bounty_n and_o mercy_n it_o be_v to_o this_o end_n that_o i_o shall_v call_v upon_o thou_o in_o my_o need_n and_o that_o i_o see_v the_o necessity_n beseech_v thou_o that_o according_a to_o thy_o promise_n thou_o will_v make_v i_o feel_v thou_o to_o be_v my_o saviour_n and_o father_n but_o yet_o in_o the_o mean_a while_n he_o express_v unto_o we_o whence_o this_o salvation_n which_o we_o must_v wait_v for_o and_o which_o god_n have_v promise_v we_o come_v and_o that_o be_v of_o his_o mere_a good_a will_n for_o man_n can_v otherwise_o choose_v but_o that_o they_o will_v ever_o wrongful_o take_v upon_o they_o some_o thing_n or_o other_o which_o appertain_v nothing_o unto_o they_o and_o always_o to_o be_v foolish_o and_o arrogant_o bind_v unto_o themselves_o now_o david_n clean_o contrary_a show_v here_o that_o all_o the_o salvation_n which_o he_o hope_v after_o &_o desire_v come_v from_o another_o springheade_n then_o from_o the_o virtue_n and_o dignity_n of_o man_n to_o wit_n even_o from_o the_o mere_a goodness_n of_o god_n so_o then_o we_o see_v that_o as_o before_o he_o have_v speak_v of_o the_o promise_n even_o so_o also_o he_o here_o add_v and_o express_v the_o cause_n which_o move_v god_n to_o bind_v himself_o so_o unto_o we_o to_o wit_n his_o mere_a mercy_n by_o this_o we_o be_v admonish_v that_o when_o we_o be_v to_o call_v upon_o god_n we_o shall_v always_o have_v regard_n unto_o these_o two_o thing_n to_o wit_n the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o his_o free_a mercy_n and_o after_o that_o his_o promise_n god_n be_v good_a and_o liberal_a and_o see_v why_o it_o be_v that_o he_o with_o pity_n look_v upon_o we_o and_o behold_v we_o with_o his_o eye_n of_o compassion_n vouchsafe_v to_o receive_v we_o yea_o and_o call_v and_o allure_v we_o unto_o he_o and_o also_o imbolden_v we_o to_o crave_v of_o he_o to_o the_o end_n he_o will_v help_v and_o succour_v we_o in_o all_o our_o need_n and_o necessity_n now_o this_o goodness_n shall_v lie_v hide_v in_o god_n be_v it_o not_o that_o he_o make_v we_o to_o feel_v it_o by_o his_o promise_n for_o god_n show_v himself_o unto_o we_o to_o be_v such_o a_o one_o as_o in_o deed_n he_o be_v he_o lay_v his_o heart_n wide_o open_a when_o he_o render_v we_o a_o testimony_n of_o the_o love_n he_o bear_v us._n loe_o here_o why_o i_o have_v say_v that_o in_o all_o our_o prayer_n we_o ought_v to_o have_v these_o two_o consideration_n the_o one_o be_v that_o god_n be_v so_o good_a and_o love_a that_o although_o we_o be_v poor_a and_o miserable_a creature_n and_o nothing_o else_o but_o dung_n and_o stench_n yet_o for_o all_o that_o he_o cease_v not_o too_o love_v we_o and_o to_o have_v great_a care_n of_o our_o salvation_n and_o since_o we_o be_v come_v too_o the_o promise_n which_o be_v a_o sure_a testimony_n that_o god_n be_v such_o one_o we_o shall_v no_o more_o doubt_v what_o affection_n he_o bear_v we_o whether_o he_o be_v our_o friend_n or_o enemy_n see_v it_o be_v so_o that_o he_o be_v very_o well_o willing_a to_o be_v bind_v unto_o we_o in_o declare_v unto_o we_o that_o he_o be_v our_o father_n and_o take_v we_o to_o be_v his_o child_n now_o david_n make_v such_o a_o request_n as_o we_o have_v already_o touch_v to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v answer_v those_o which_o wrought_v he_o shame_n although_o he_o say_v word_n for_o word_n to_o from_o the_o same_o by_o evil_a example_n now_o as_o i_o have_v already_o touch_v if_o david_n have_v need_v hereof_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o who_o be_v so_o inconstant_a and_o mutable_a in_o all_o our_o do_n lo_o than_o the_o first_o point_n which_o we_o have_v to_o note_v in_o this_o place_n to_o wit_n that_o david_n protest_v that_o although_o the_o holy_a ghost_n assist_v he_o and_o that_o he_o feel_v himself_o confirm_v as_o we_o have_v see_v nevertheless_o he_o yet_o seek_v other_o help_n to_o continue_v and_o hold_v he_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n as_o the_o company_n which_o be_v most_o meet_a for_o he_o to_o cause_v he_o to_o follow_v his_o vocation_n and_o not_o to_o withdraw_v he_o from_o it_o see_v there_o must_v be_v nothing_o that_o must_v pull_v we_o aside_o from_o the_o right_a way_n now_o he_o mean_v to_o signify_v further_o that_o he_o join_v himself_o with_o man_n that_o fear_v god_n to_o the_o end_n also_o that_o he_o may_v serve_v he_o as_o he_o ought_v for_o we_o be_v bind_v to_o stir_v up_o one_o another_o through_o mutual_a exhortation_n and_o good_a ensample_n it_o be_v meet_v then_o that_o we_o have_v these_o two_o consideration_n in_o the_o first_o place_n we_o be_v to_o consider_v to_o follow_v those_o which_o can_v advance_v &_o further_o we_o in_o the_o right_a way_n who_o can_v profit_v we_o more_o and_o more_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o after_o that_o we_o must_v also_o labour_v to_o to_o profit_v those_o with_o who_o we_o shall_v be_v likewise_o conversant_a incite_v they_o by_o all_o mean_v possible_a to_o follow_v the_o right_a trade_n wherein_o god_n shall_v have_v set_v they_o to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v be_v honour_v with_o one_o accord_n and_o that_o every_o of_o we_o may_v say_v come_v let_v we_o go_v and_o let_v we_o travel_v and_o take_v pain_n to_o cause_n to_o other_o to_o go_v with_o we_o that_o we_o may_v altogether_o honour_v the_o lord_n our_o god_n now_o the_o conclusion_n of_o the_o desire_v notwithstanding_o to_o be_v instruct_v in_o the_o statute_n of_o god_n and_o which_o be_v he_o amongst_o we_o that_o have_v not_o great_a need_n of_o they_o so_o then_o when_o as_o we_o shall_v be_v great_o learn_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n not_o only_o for_o ourselves_o but_o also_o to_o instruct_v our_o neighbour_n let_v we_o for_o all_o that_o be_v content_v to_o yield_v and_o in_o deed_n there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o world_n which_o give_v we_o a_o better_a
and_o so_o fat_v even_o so_o fare_v it_o with_o these_o curse_a contemner_n of_o god_n which_o have_v no_o regard_n unto_o everlasting_a life_n but_o be_v whole_o give_v up_o too_o their_o god_n the_o belly_n they_o wallow_v themselves_o in_o their_o own_o grease_n as_o a_o swine_n which_o have_v his_o groin_n always_o in_o the_o trough_n now_o contrariwise_o david_n say_v that_o all_o his_o delight_n have_v be_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n whereby_o he_o do_v we_o to_o wit_n that_o although_o god_n have_v make_v he_o fat_a yet_o that_o he_o wallow_v not_o for_o all_o that_o in_o his_o world_n without_o look_v any_o far_o now_o we_o must_v have_v a_o far_a regard_n if_o we_o will_v serve_v god_n as_o too_o he_o appertain_v to_o wit_n that_o we_o take_v such_o pleasure_n and_o with_o that_o which_o be_v set_v down_o in_o the_o last_o verse_n to_o wit_n that_o the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v more_o dear_a unto_o we_o then_o gold_n or_o silver_n and_o this_o be_v it_o that_o we_o must_v do_v in_o this_o point_n we_o must_v esteem_v and_o make_v much_o of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o it_o be_v worthy_a and_o not_o to_o stay_v ourselves_o on_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n but_o to_o look_v always_o far_o off_o to_o wit_n unto_o heaven_n when_o then_o we_o shall_v have_v profit_v ourselves_o thus_o by_o the_o affliction_n which_o god_n shall_v send_v we_o he_o will_v bestow_v his_o grace_n upon_o we_o by_o little_a &_o little_a that_o we_o shall_v so_o esteem_v of_o his_o word_n as_o that_o we_o shall_v whole_o stick_v to_o it_o and_o let_v we_o beseech_v he_o that_o it_o will_v please_v he_o too_o despoil_v we_o of_o all_o our_o wicked_a fleshly_a desire_n and_o affection_n &_o to_o cause_v we_o to_o crave_v none_o other_o thing_n but_o that_o he_o will_v unto_o you_o for_o there_o be_v as_o great_a distance_n between_o my_o thought_n and_o you_o as_o be_v between_o heaven_n and_o earth_n let_v we_o then_o measure_v the_o goodness_n of_o god_n after_o our_o vain_a imagination_n but_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v let_v we_o know_v that_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a which_o he_o declare_v and_o testify_v unto_o we_o that_o the_o good_a will_n and_o love_n which_o he_o bear_v we_o be_v infinite_a thing_n which_o we_o must_v behold_v by_o faith_n only_o and_o it_o be_v to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o shall_v come_v unto_o he_o with_o great_a boldness_n too_o call_v upon_o he_o not_o doubt_v but_o that_o we_o shall_v obtain_v whatsoever_o we_o crave_v at_o his_o hand_n yea_o even_o asmuch_o as_n shall_v be_v expedient_a for_o our_o his_o chatisement_n too_o be_v gentle_a and_o gracious_a but_o be_v impatient_a and_o conceive_v some_o grief_n that_o make_v they_o too_o grind_v their_o tooth_n now_o david_n join_v these_o two_o together_o to_o wit_n that_o he_o do_v not_o only_o make_v much_o of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o also_o of_o the_o punishment_n which_o he_o send_v he_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v o_o lord_n i_o do_v not_o only_o suffer_v myself_o to_o be_v teach_v by_o thy_o word_n but_o to_o be_v chastise_v also_o with_o thy_o hand_n and_o i_o beseech_v thou_o to_o scourge_v and_o beat_v i_o with_o thy_o not_o according_a as_o it_o please_v our_o own_o wit_n and_o affection_n neither_o too_o make_v any_o noise_n when_o we_o hear_v god_n speak_v but_o let_v he_o have_v such_o authority_n over_o we_o to_o make_v we_o so_o silent_a as_o that_o we_o may_v know_v that_o whatsoever_o he_o say_v unto_o we_o be_v just_a and_o true_a and_o thus_o too_o do_v let_v we_o learn_v not_o to_o be_v so_o that_o in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n there_o be_v but_o one_o holy_a doctrine_n one_o infallible_a truth_n one_o so_o perfect_a equity_n as_o can_v be_v no_o perfect_a he_o that_o shall_v have_v know_v this_o shall_v by_o little_a and_o little_o have_v wherewith_o too_o be_v fortify_v too_o receive_v the_o correction_n with_o a_o meek_a spirit_n and_o not_o to_o be_v grieve_v and_o to_o kick_v and_o health_n and_o this_o be_v the_o sum_n and_o effect_n of_o this_o verse_n it_o follow_v next_o after_o i_o pray_v thou_o that_o thy_o mercy_n may_v comfort_v i_o according_a unto_o thy_o promise_n unto_o thy_o servant_n here_o david_n make_v and_o more_o general_a request_n then_o that_o which_o before_o we_o have_v see_v he_o desire_v god_n to_o instruct_v he_o and_o now_o he_o add_v o_o let_v thy_o merciful_a kindness_n be_v my_o comfort_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v o_o lord_n i_o have_v beseech_v thou_o for_o a_o special_a and_o particular_a thing_n but_o i_o add_v now_o that_o thou_o will_v be_v merciful_a unto_o i_o in_o all_o and_o through_o all_o that_o thy_o mercy_n be_v extend_v upon_o i_o that_o i_o fail_v in_o nothing_o thou_o know_v what_o be_v necessary_a and_o profitable_a for_o i_o o_o lord_n let_v i_o feel_v thou_o to_o be_v gracious_a and_o pitiful_a all_o manner_n of_o way_n loe_o what_o difference_n there_o be_v between_o the_o first_o request_n which_o we_o have_v already_o see_v and_o this_o second_o now_o this_o be_v a_o point_n worth_a the_o note_n for_o as_o we_o have_v before_o say_v see_v the_o first_o which_o we_o ought_v to_o have_v in_o a_o singular_a recommendation_n and_o that_o be_v that_o we_o may_v be_v teach_v by_o god_n and_o not_o to_o be_v teach_v only_o by_o word_n but_o that_o he_o will_v also_o lighten_v we_o with_o his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o make_v we_o know_v that_o it_o be_v his_o word_n which_o guide_v us._n see_v here_o i_o say_v the_o very_a right_a way_n to_o salvation_n now_o have_v we_o make_v this_o request_n we_o may_v crave_v of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v not_o let_v we_o fall_v in_o anything_o whatsoever_o that_o his_o mercy_n may_v comfort_v us._n but_o yet_o here_o we_o see_v how_o that_o david_n be_v not_o comfort_v nor_o yet_o rejoice_v but_o only_o in_o god_n know_v that_o all_o the_o joy_n that_o we_o have_v here_o bilowe_n shall_v be_v accurse_v when_o as_o we_o have_v no_o regard_n unto_o our_o creator_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o se_z how_o common_o we_o be_v wont_v to_o rejoice_v and_o comfort_v ourselves_o that_o be_v even_o to_o forget_v god_n &_o to_o turn_v our_o back_n upon_o he_o now_o accurse_v be_v such_o joy_n for_o the_o issue_n thereof_o can_v be_v none_o other_o but_o as_o our_o lord_n christ_n jesus_n say_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v turn_v into_o weep_v and_o gnassh_v of_o tooth_n howbeit_o the_o world_n be_v wax_v drink_v for_o whatsoever_o be_v say_v unto_o it_o it_o make_v no_o reckon_n thereof_o but_o utter_o refuse_v all_o good_a &_o have_v here_o above_o say_v but_o be_v we_o already_o come_v thus_o farrefurth_o and_o if_o we_o be_v yet_o be_v there_o a_o other_o point_n far_o require_v to_o wit_n we_o must_v assure_v ourselves_o that_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n shall_v adorn_v and_o garnishe_v we_o so_o we_o seek_v they_o according_a to_o his_o word_n and_o to_o prove_v it_o to_o be_v so_o mark_v i_o beseech_v you_o for_o it_o be_v marvelous_a great_a presumption_n in_o we_o to_o come_v unto_o god_n without_o we_o have_v his_o promise_n for_o it_o and_o to_o desire_v of_o he_o any_o thing_n and_o say_v o_o lord_n i_o have_v need_n of_o this_o and_o that_o go_v to_o now_o here_o be_v already_o some_o occasion_n which_o cause_v we_o to_o come_v unto_o god_n and_o again_o o_o lord_n thou_o be_v good_a and_o gracious_a lo_o this_o be_v a_o other_o thing_n also_o which_o augment_v our_o courage_n and_o boldness_n but_o because_o we_o be_v so_o far_o from_o god_n that_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o come_v near_o his_o majesty_n without_o he_o come_v down_o unto_o we_o we_o must_v then_o before_o we_o can_v have_v any_o access_n to_o make_v our_o prayer_n unto_o he_o lay_v this_o foundation_n which_o be_v here_o set_v before_o we_o that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o word_n of_o god_n when_o as_o thereby_o god_n witness_v unto_o we_o that_o his_o mercy_n be_v always_o ready_a that_o he_o there_o lay_v it_o before_o we_o and_o offer_v the_o same_o there_o unto_o us._n there_o remain_v now_o nothing_o else_o but_o that_o we_o receive_v it_o by_o faith_n and_o that_o there_o we_o declare_v our_o faith_n through_o our_o call_n upon_o he_o so_o then_o we_o see_v the_o order_n which_o david_n here_o set_v down_o that_o be_v that_o he_o bring_v we_o to_o god_n to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v take_v our_o whole_a contentation_n repose_n and_o rejoice_v in_o his_o mere_a goodness_n and_o since_o that_o he_o have_v receive_v we_o through_o his_o mercy_n let_v we_o beseech_v he_o that_o he_o will_v look_v unto_o we_o with_o his_o eye_n of_o pity_n for_o the_o three_o point_n he_o show_v we_o how_o we_o ought_v to_o make_v such_o our_o petition_n that_o be_v because_o god_n have_v bind_v himself_o unto_o we_o say_v thus_o but_o this_o be_v the_o doctrine_n which_o they_o teach_v in_o all_o their_o satanical_a and_o devilish_a school_n and_o synagogue_n loe_o here_o the_o very_a doctrine_n of_o popish_a doctor_n that_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n be_v uncertain_a &_o that_o we_o must_v receive_v they_o as_o thing_n hang_v in_o the_o air_n not_o to_o take_v they_o general_o to_o say_v i_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o god_n speak_v the_o same_o unto_o i_o but_o contrariwise_o we_o must_v conclude_v as_o david_n here_o do_v and_o o_o lord_n let_v it_o be_v do_v unto_o thy_o servant_n according_a to_o thy_o word_n he_o say_v not_o according_a to_o thy_o word_n i_o know_v not_o to_o who_o nor_o unto_o such_o man_n of_o which_o number_n i_o be_o not_o so_o that_o i_o can_v not_o build_v upon_o it_o but_o he_o say_v according_a to_o thy_o promise_n o_o lord_n make_v unto_o i_o let_v we_o then_o learn_v by_o his_o example_n that_o when_o we_o desire_v the_o lord_n god_n to_o assist_v we_o to_o charge_v he_o with_o his_o promise_n yea_o &_o let_v we_o apply_v they_o unto_o ourselves_o and_o believe_v that_o they_o be_v also_o speak_v to_o every_o of_o we_o in_o particular_a and_o general_o unto_o all_o i_o mean_v unto_o all_o the_o faithful_a when_o as_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n say_v i_o receive_v all_o sinner_n to_o mercy_n let_v every_o one_o say_v o_o lord_n i_o be_o one_o of_o those_o miserable_a and_o wretched_a creature_n and_o therefore_o i_o come_v unto_o thou_o charge_v thou_o with_o thy_o promise_n make_v unto_o i_o loe_o how_o we_o must_v behave_v ourselves_o will_v not_o come_v unto_o he_o but_o only_o because_o we_o think_v that_o god_n have_v estrange_v himself_o from_o we_o and_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v thereby_o confound_v it_o be_v very_o true_a that_o he_o will_v sometime_o cause_v we_o to_o feel_v they_o as_o if_o he_o have_v clean_o turn_v himself_o away_o from_o we_o and_o all_o because_o we_o first_o forsake_v he_o but_o yet_o we_o must_v notwithstanding_o return_v unto_o he_o and_o not_o be_v discourage_v but_o follow_v the_o example_n of_o david_n that_o although_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n to_o the_o outward_a appearance_n and_o in_o our_o judgement_n be_v far_o from_o we_o and_o in_o such_o sort_n as_o that_o we_o may_v well_o perceive_v it_o yet_o must_v we_o never_o cease_v to_o say_v o_o lord_n let_v thy_o love_a mercy_n come_v unto_o i_o sure_o to_o the_o outrward_a show_n &_o so_o far_o as_o i_o can_v judge_v they_o be_v far_o of_o i_o but_o yet_o o_o lord_n i_o know_v that_o thou_o will_v in_o the_o end_n faith_n and_o hope_n moreover_o when_o he_o say_v that_o i_o may_v live_v that_o be_v to_o signify_v unto_o we_o the_o same_o which_o i_o have_v already_o say_v to_o wit_n that_o although_o his_o wit_n and_o spirit_n stay_v itself_o upon_o creature_n yet_o that_o he_o be_v but_o as_o a_o dead_a man_n &_o while_o he_o think_v god_n not_o to_o be_v near_o he_o he_o suppose_v himself_o to_o be_v but_o as_o a_o forlorn_a man_n and_o in_o deed_n although_o we_o have_v all_o the_o world_n on_o our_o side_n and_o have_v god_n against_o we_o and_o be_v sure_a that_o he_o neither_o love_v nor_o favour_v we_o all_o the_o rest_n will_v turn_v but_o to_o our_o ruin_n and_o destruction_n and_o if_o we_o esteem_v not_o thus_o of_o he_o must_v it_o not_o needs_o be_v but_o that_o we_o must_v be_v bewitch_v by_o satan_n and_o carry_v violent_o away_o when_o we_o shall_v content_v we_o only_o with_o these_o worldly_a thing_n and_o never_o have_v regard_n unto_o the_o spring_n head_n and_o fountain_n of_o all_o goodness_n to_o wit_n the_o bounty_n of_o god_n but_o in_o the_o mean_a while_n let_v we_o note_v this_o that_o although_o we_o be_v dead_a for_o a_o time_n after_o the_o example_n of_o david_n yet_o shall_v we_o be_v quicken_v so_o that_o we_o come_v to_o god_n beseech_v he_o not_o to_o hold_v back_o his_o mercy_n far_o from_o us._n now_o he_o say_v in_o the_o end_n for_o thy_o law_n be_v my_o delight_n by_o this_o we_o be_v admonish_v what_o it_o be_v that_o we_o must_v crave_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n in_o good_a earnest_n forsooth_o that_o his_o mercy_n may_v remain_v with_o we_o
to_o wit_n when_o as_o we_o be_v conformable_a to_o he_o and_o to_o his_o word_n let_v it_o not_o now_o abash_v we_o although_o we_o feel_v so_o little_a taste_n of_o god_n his_o mercy_n and_o why_o so_o for_o what_o be_v he_o that_o will_v acknowledge_v it_o we_o be_v so_o beguile_v with_o these_o false_a deceit_n of_o the_o world_n that_o we_o think_v we_o may_v triumph_n by_o they_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v exceed_o bless_a when_o as_o we_o shall_v have_v all_o thing_n after_o our_o own_o heart_n desire_v but_o in_o thus_o do_v we_o can_v contemn_v god_n and_o his_o grace_n we_o must_v not_o then_o be_v abash_v if_o we_o be_v set_v beside_o that_o which_o appertain_v to_o our_o salvation_n and_o that_o god_n suffer_v we_o to_o languish_v in_o wretchedness_n and_o misery_n and_o so_o let_v we_o learn_v after_o the_o example_n of_o david_n to_o be_v as_o it_o be_v reject_v of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o to_o be_v as_o it_o be_v estrange_v from_o it_o to_o crave_v in_o good_a earnest_n to_o cause_v his_o mercy_n to_o return_v unto_o we_o to_o wit_n that_o he_o will_v grant_v we_o this_o grace_n to_o let_v we_o in_o such_o sort_n understand_v what_o need_n we_o have_v of_o his_o favour_n and_o aid_n that_o notwithstanding_o that_o we_o have_v decline_v from_o his_o commandment_n yet_o that_o he_o will_v grant_v we_o for_o all_o that_o to_o feel_v his_o mercy_n although_o he_o have_v hold_v the_o same_o from_o we_o for_o a_o season_n now_o it_o follow_v let_v the_o proud_a be_v confound_v for_o they_o have_v deal_v wicked_o and_o false_o with_o i_o but_o i_o meditate_v in_o thy_o commandment_n here_o david_n set_v down_o another_o reason_n to_o confirm_v himself_o continual_o more_o and_o more_o that_o he_o shall_v obtain_v that_o which_o he_o pray_v unto_o god_n for_o to_o wit_n because_o the_o wicked_a do_v persecute_v he_o who_o he_o call_v the_o proud_a and_o this_o be_v the_o sentence_n which_o we_o have_v already_o heretofore_o treat_v off_o neither_o will_v the_o time_n suffer_v we_o to_o stay_v any_o long_o upon_o it_o it_o shall_v therefore_o suffice_v we_o for_o this_o time_n that_o faith_n only_o be_v the_o thing_n which_o bring_v we_o within_o the_o compass_n of_o humility_n when_o as_o we_o know_v that_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o we_o but_o wickedness_n and_o that_o we_o be_v thereto_o tie_v by_o the_o just_a judgement_n of_o god_n when_o i_o say_v that_o the_o faithful_a know_v this_o it_o pull_v down_o their_o high_a mind_n they_o be_v no_o more_o arrogant_a nor_o presumptuous_a to_o lift_v themselves_o up_o against_o god_n and_o their_o neighbour_n contrariwyse_o the_o wicked_a and_o enemy_n of_o god_n be_v call_v proud_a for_o the_o pride_n which_o they_o use_v against_o god_n engender_v also_o cruelty_n against_o their_o neighbour_n as_o many_o as_o will_v humble_v themselves_o before_o god_n will_v also_o be_v very_o gentle_a too_o their_o neighbour_n but_o they_o which_o have_v a_o fierce_a and_o high_a mind_n to_o stand_v against_o god_n must_v needs_o likewise_o cast_v their_o poison_n against_o their_o neighbour_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n david_n say_v let_v the_o proud_a o_o lord_n be_v confound_v for_o they_o go_v wicked_o about_o to_o confound_v i_o whereby_o we_o be_v admonish_v that_o although_o the_o wicked_a vex_v and_o grieve_v we_o never_o so_o injurious_o and_o without_o cause_n yet_o we_o be_v thereby_o teach_v to_o have_v the_o rather_o a_o great_a deal_n more_o trust_n that_o god_n will_v have_v mercy_n upon_o us._n and_o why_o so_o because_o it_o be_v he_o which_o grant_v our_o request_n and_o when_o as_o we_o shall_v make_v it_o unto_o he_o it_o shall_v not_o come_v of_o ourselves_o but_o he_o shall_v be_v author_n thereof_o so_o then_o when_o as_o we_o shall_v be_v grieve_v and_o injury_v by_o malicious_a and_o cruel_a man_n let_v we_o go_v bold_o unto_o god_n and_o beseech_v he_o to_o have_v pity_n and_o compassion_n upon_o us._n grieve_a we_o must_v learn_v after_o the_o example_n of_o david_n to_o meditate_v of_o the_o testimony_n of_o god_n and_o there_o to_o seek_v our_o whole_a comfort_n for_o that_o be_v the_o very_a mean_a by_o which_o god_n mean_v to_o pluck_v we_o out_o of_o all_o our_o anguish_n and_o grief_n which_o may_v any_o way_n trouble_v us._n that_o now_o which_o follow_v have_v be_v already_o handle_v to_o wit_n that_o man_n which_o fear_v god_n do_v turn_v unto_o he_o to_o say_v that_o they_o will_v keep_v he_o company_n and_o in_o the_o end_n he_o set_v down_o this_o conclusion_n let_v my_o heart_n be_v upright_o in_o thy_o statute_n that_o i_o be_v not_o ashamed_a now_o like_v as_o in_o the_o first_o verse_n he_o desire_v god_n to_o give_v he_o understanding_n that_o he_o may_v learn_v his_o law_n here_o he_o desire_v that_o he_o will_v grant_v he_o affection_n whereby_o we_o may_v see_v that_o this_o proceed_v from_o we_o &_o from_o our_o nature_n to_o wit_n to_o be_v very_o poor_a blind_a soul_n until_o such_o time_n as_o god_n open_v our_o eye_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o first_o point_n but_o yet_o understand_v only_o shall_v not_o serve_v god_n must_v make_v our_o heart_n pliant_a unto_o his_o obedience_n and_o place_v we_o so_o with_o himself_o as_o that_o we_o have_v none_o other_o desire_v but_o to_o serve_v he_o let_v we_o they_o learn_v to_o pray_v unto_o he_o as_o david_n here_o have_v do_v for_o after_o he_o have_v desire_v he_o to_o give_v he_o understand_v of_o his_o law_n he_o desire_v he_o also_o to_o give_v he_o a_o pure_a and_o a_o sound_a heart_n yea_o and_o that_o we_o shall_v also_o do_v the_o same_o in_o verity_n &_o truth_n not_o doubt_v but_o that_o when_o god_n have_v bestow_v upon_o we_o some_o grace_n that_o he_o will_v also_o increase_v they_o more_o &_o more_o and_o have_v compassion_n upon_o we_o so_o that_o we_o be_v obedient_a unto_o he_o in_o our_o behalf_n and_o yield_v he_o the_o homage_n and_o authority_n which_o unto_o he_o belong_v and_o according_a unto_o this_o doctrine_n let_v we_o in_o all_o humility_n prostrate_v ourselves_o before_o the_o majesty_n of_o our_o good_a god_n in_o acknowledge_v our_o offence_n beseech_v he_o so_o to_o touch_v we_o as_o that_o we_o may_v learn_v after_o the_o example_n of_o his_o prophet_n how_o to_o make_v and_o present_v our_o request_n unto_o he_o &_o to_o bereave_v we_o of_o all_o our_o earthly_a affection_n which_o we_o feel_v to_o be_v most_o violent_a against_o we_o to_o the_o end_n that_o our_o mind_n be_v not_o withdraw_v through_o they_o from_o his_o righteousness_n but_o that_o we_o submit_v ourselves_o whole_o unto_o his_o holy_a will_n desire_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o have_v he_o to_o govern_v we_o to_o the_o end_n that_o be_v fortify_v by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n we_o may_v persevere_v unto_o the_o end_n to_o resist_v those_o temptation_n which_o shall_v grieve_v we_o to_o obtain_v the_o victory_n abovesaid_a and_o come_v to_o the_o triumph_n which_o be_v prepare_v for_o we_o in_o heaven_n above_o that_o he_o will_v not_o only_o grant_v we_o this_o grace_n but_o also_o unto_o all_o people_n and_o nation_n of_o the_o earth_n etc._n etc._n the_o eleven_o sermon_n of_o the_o hundred_o and_o nineteenth_o psalm_n caph_n my_o soul_n faint_v for_o thy_o salvation_n yet_o i_o wait_v for_o thy_o word_n my_o eye_n fail_v for_o thy_o promise_n say_v when_o will_v thou_o comfort_v i_o for_o i_o be_o like_o a_o bottle_n in_o the_o smoke_n yet_o do_v i_o not_o forget_v thy_o statute_n how_o many_o be_v the_o day_n of_o thy_o servant_n when_o will_v thou_o be_v avenge_v of_o they_o that_o persecute_v i_o the_o proud_a have_v dig_v pit_n for_o i_o which_o be_v not_o after_o thy_o law_n all_o thy_o commandment_n be_v true_a they_o persecute_v i_o false_o be_v thou_o my_o help_n they_o have_v almost_o make_v a_o end_n upon_o i_o on_o the_o earth_n but_o i_o forsake_v not_o thy_o commandment_n quicken_v i_o according_a to_o thy_o love_a kindness_n so_o shall_v i_o keep_v the_o testimony_n of_o thy_o mouth_n if_o we_o can_v right_o call_v to_o our_o remembrance_n
promise_v it_o be_v say_v that_o god_n will_v circumcise_v the_o heart_n of_o his_o child_n he_o say_v that_o he_o will_v so_o lively_o touch_v they_o as_o that_o he_o will_v bring_v they_o into_o his_o obedience_n so_o then_o as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v the_o faithful_a bind_v not_o themselves_o to_o god_n to_o do_v any_o thing_n of_o their_o own_o power_n &_o strength_n but_o they_o desire_v he_o to_o fulfil_v what_o soever_o be_v want_v in_o they_o to_o supply_v their_o weakness_n and_o to_o send_v such_o remedy_n as_o he_o know_v best_a to_o be_v most_o needful_a and_o expedient_a for_o they_o see_v then_o with_o what_o confidence_n david_n have_v swear_v too_o observe_v the_o testimony_n of_o god_n he_o do_v it_o not_o i_o say_v of_o any_o vain_a presumption_n that_o he_o have_v conceive_v of_o his_o own_o power_n and_o strength_n ne_o yet_o that_o he_o be_v able_a to_o do_v it_o no_o he_o attribute_v nothing_o to_o his_o own_o strength_n but_o swear_v and_o do_v it_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n by_o which_o promise_n he_o declare_v that_o he_o will_v by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n govern_v all_o those_o which_o be_v he_o loe_o whereupon_o david_n stay_v himself_o now_o by_o &_o by_o follow_v the_o second_o point_n to_o wit_n that_o david_n have_v swear_v too_o observe_v the_o testimony_n yea_o even_o stay_v himself_o upon_o that_o which_o god_n have_v promise_v that_o he_o will_v uphold_v we_o through_o his_o mercy_n that_o although_o we_o halt_n and_o that_o all_o the_o obedience_n which_o we_o go_v about_o to_o yield_v unto_o he_o be_v weak_a and_o faulty_a because_o it_o be_v do_v but_o by_o half_n yet_o he_o not_o have_v respect_n to_o all_o our_o fault_n mean_v to_o make_v a_o taste_n of_o the_o desire_n which_o we_o shall_v have_v to_o please_v he_o &_o in_o effect_n will_v accept_v our_o service_n as_o it_o be_v dispense_n with_o all_o the_o fault_n which_o shall_v be_v mingle_v among_o they_o which_o thing_n david_n consider_v be_v able_a to_o say_v that_o he_o will_v observe_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n so_o then_o let_v we_o note_v that_o when_o the_o faithful_a bind_v themselves_o to_o observe_v the_o word_n of_o god_n they_o must_v not_o trust_v to_o themselves_o ne_o yet_o be_v puff_v up_o with_o a_o foolish_a opinion_n that_o they_o have_v the_o power_n to_o do_v it_o but_o they_o must_v say_v accomplish_v thou_o this_o o_o lord_n and_o then_o i_o will_v follow_v it_o write_v thy_o law_n o_o lord_n in_o my_o heart_n and_o then_o shall_v i_o have_v a_o desire_n to_o serve_v thou_o and_o beside_o let_v the_o faithful_a always_o remember_v that_o god_n will_v not_o handle_v they_o sharp_o yea_o &_o although_o they_o fail_v in_o a_o great_a number_n of_o point_n so_o that_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o observe_v one_o only_a point_n nor_o jot_n perfect_o yet_o will_v he_o spare_v they_o through_o his_o free_a goodness_n &_o mercy_n when_o the_o faithful_a &_o child_n of_o god_n shall_v have_v know_v thus_o much_o and_o shall_v swear_v that_o they_o will_v observe_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n yet_o let_v they_o not_o cease_v for_o all_o that_o too_o fly_v unto_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o their_o sin_n that_o they_o may_v feel_v the_o same_o too_o be_v a_o necessary_a remedy_n agreeable_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n for_o the_o fulfil_n of_o one_o part_n of_o his_o commandment_n we_o see_v now_o then_o why_o david_n have_v swear_v to_o keep_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n and_o that_o he_o will_v never_o change_v this_o purpose_n in_o his_o hart_n now_o he_o make_v two_o request_n immediate_o after_o whereof_o the_o one_o be_v to_o be_v quicken_v and_o restore_v wherein_o he_o show_v that_o which_o i_o have_v already_o touch_v which_o be_v that_o he_o be_v not_o lead_v with_o a_o foolish_a presumption_n of_o his_o own_o power_n &_o stregth_n for_o he_o which_o desire_v god_n to_o be_v restore_v confess_v that_o he_o live_v not_o as_o of_o himself_o but_o that_o he_o must_v needs_o live_v by_o the_o grace_n &_o goodness_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o david_n make_v this_o confession_n more_o express_o when_o he_o add_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o use_v to_o make_v such_o request_n for_o i_o be_o very_o sore_o afflict_v o_o lord_n say_v he_o see_v then_o david_n who_o confess_v himself_o to_o be_v trouble_v and_o as_o it_o be_v utter_o make_v nothing_o besech_v god_n for_o to_o restore_v he_o shall_v we_o say_v that_o he_o trust_v to_o own_o strength_n or_o that_o he_o attribute_v any_o thing_n whatsoever_o unto_o himself_o we_o se_fw-mi the_o clean_a contrary_n so_o then_o according_a to_o that_o which_o we_o have_v already_o declare_v let_v we_o understand_v that_o he_o swear_v not_o upon_o any_o vain_a presumption_n but_o because_o he_o know_v that_o god_n will_v never_o fail_v he_o and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o take_v upon_o he_o this_o boldness_n and_o that_o be_v it_o which_o he_o add_v according_a to_o thy_o word_n that_o be_v according_a to_o thy_o promise_n now_o we_o ought_v thorough_o to_o consider_v all_o what_o soever_o that_o be_v here_o say_v quicken_v i_o o_o lord_n say_v he_o and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o first_o point_n wherein_o he_o show_v that_o he_o live_v not_o as_o of_o himself_o but_o defier_v it_o of_o god_n and_o afterward_o he_o add_v the_o reason_n say_v after_o this_o manner_n i_o be_o very_o sore_o afflict_v whereby_o he_o declare_v unto_o we_o that_o we_o be_v not_o able_a too_o relieve_v and_o maintain_v ourselves_o when_o as_o our_o strength_n fail_v we_o but_o that_o it_o be_v god_n which_o must_v put_v to_o his_o help_a hand_n and_o beside_o we_o may_v be_v assure_v that_o he_o will_v help_v we_o and_o be_v ready_a to_o restore_v we_o so_o that_o we_o will_v desire_v he_o and_o call_v upon_o he_o &_o have_v recourse_n unto_o his_o goodness_n loe_o here_o a_o mighty_a comfort_n for_o all_o the_o faithful_a when_o as_o they_o find_v themselves_o to_o be_v so_o without_o strength_n as_o that_o they_o feel_v themselves_o too_o faint_a too_o be_v clean_o cast_v down_o and_o to_o see_v nothing_o else_o in_o themselves_o but_o death_n yet_o may_v they_o be_v full_o assure_v &_o resolve_v that_o god_n will_v always_o be_v their_o watchman_n too_o restore_v and_o quicken_v they_o and_o why_o so_o to_o wit_n according_a to_o that_o which_o david_n add_v when_o he_o say_v according_a to_o thy_o promise_n then_o it_o follow_v that_o god_n have_v promise_v too_o restore_v and_o quicken_v he_o when_o as_o they_o shall_v be_v in_o death_n and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a too_o make_v our_o request_n in_o faith_n as_o david_n here_o have_v do_v if_o that_o we_o have_v not_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n for_o as_o we_o have_v before_o say_v it_o be_v a_o foolehardines_n in_o man_n to_o put_v forth_o themselves_o too_o pray_v unto_o god_n as_o they_o list_v without_o be_v sure_a and_o certain_a of_o his_o will_n before_o see_v then_o the_o cause_n which_o move_v david_n so_o express_o too_o set_v down_o here_o the_o promise_n of_o god._n now_o this_o promise_n be_v not_o make_v too_o he_o alone_o this_o be_v no_o personal_a privilege_n as_o we_o say_v appertain_v to_o one_o man_n only_o but_o it_o be_v a_o general_a rule_n which_o we_o must_v hold_v that_o god_n will_v raise_v up_o again_o from_o death_n those_o which_o be_v throw_v down_o and_o as_o it_o be_v make_v nothing_o yea_o even_o when_o as_o they_o do_v call_v upon_o he_o and_o acknowledge_v that_o it_o come_v of_o his_o own_o pure_a grace_n that_o they_o ought_v to_o be_v so_o restore_v and_o not_o otherwise_o now_o here_o be_v yet_o another_o request_n which_o he_o make_v o_o lord_n i_o beseech_v thou_o let_v the_o freewill_n offering_n of_o my_o mouth_n please_v thou_o and_o teach_v i_o thy_o judgement_n here_o david_n desire_v god_n to_o accept_v the_o praise_n which_o he_o shall_v render_v unto_o he_o for_o the_o oblation_n whereof_o david_n speak_v be_v nothing_o else_o but_o praise_n and_o thanksgiving_n by_o which_o david_n acknowledge_v the_o benefit_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o he_o of_o we_o which_o have_v scarce_o receive_v one_o drop_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o respect_n and_o comparison_n of_o this_o holy_a mane_n and_o so_o â—et_v we_o consider_v to_o be_v the_o buckler_n and_o defend_v they_o with_o his_o mighty_a power_n and_o namely_o he_o say_v the_o proud_a because_o that_o they_o which_o be_v our_o enemy_n and_o make_v war_n against_o we_o have_v such_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o behold_v why_o of_o very_o right_a all_o our_o prayer_n be_v unprofitable_a and_o to_o no_o purpose_n and_o so_o when_o as_o we_o will_v beseech_v the_o lord_n our_o god_n to_o take_v our_o cause_n into_o his_o hand_n to_o help_v we_o let_v we_o take_v this_o with_o we_o which_o david_n here_o show_v in_o this_o place_n by_o his_o example_n to_o wit_n let_v we_o attend_v and_o look_v for_o our_o salvation_n and_o deliverance_n from_o god_n yea_o and_o let_v we_o consider_v of_o that_o which_o be_v say_v &_o according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o thy_o in_o his_o own_o sight_n &_o after_o lean_v thereto_o this_o man_n trust_v not_o in_o god_n but_o in_o himself_o so_o then_o if_o we_o look_v to_o have_v any_o help_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n we_o must_v have_v a_o sure_a testimony_n of_o his_o will_n we_o must_v be_v sure_a that_o he_o love_v we_o and_o that_o when_o he_o love_v we_o he_o will_v not_o fail_v we_o in_o our_o need_n and_o how_o shall_v we_o be_v assure_v of_o this_o it_o shall_v be_v by_o the_o only_a mean_a of_o his_o word_n now_o because_o man_n be_v so_o hard_a to_o be_v bring_v to_o rest_v themselves_o upon_o god_n and_o not_o to_o content_v they_o with_o his_o promise_n david_n say_v these_o promise_n to_o be_v just_a according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o thy_o righteousness_n say_v he_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a that_o he_o thus_o intitule_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o why_o so_o for_o he_o think_v that_o if_o he_o have_v but_o his_o bare_a word_n that_o it_o be_v enough_o for_o he_o and_o why_o so_o for_o god_n make_v not_o unto_o we_o liberal_a and_o large_a promise_n as_o man_n do_v and_o then_o deceive_v us._n his_o word_n be_v just_a and_o as_o he_o say_v in_o a_o other_o place_n 12.6_o psal_n and_o fence_v amidst_o all_o these_o hard_a case_n with_o the_o hope_n &_o trust_v which_o he_o have_v in_o god_n see_v what_o the_o word_n import_v which_o he_o use_v that_o his_o eye_n fail_v for_o the_o health_n and_o succour_n which_o he_o look_v for_o at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n will_v we_o then_o have_v a_o right_a hope_n and_o such_o a_o one_o as_o god_n allow_v of_o let_v we_o then_o not_o trust_v only_o when_o we_o be_v quiet_a and_o at_o rest_n ne_o yet_o be_v throw_v down_o by_o any_o temptation_n but_o when_o as_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o our_o extreme_a trouble_n that_o we_o know_v not_o at_o all_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o that_o we_o shall_v see_v nothing_o else_o but_o death_n before_o we_o and_o round_o about_o we_o here_o upon_o i_o say_v let_v we_o always_o be_v firm_a and_o constant_a trust_v that_o god_n will_v be_v our_o saviour_n since_o he_o have_v so_o promise_v us._n loe_o how_o we_o may_v make_v this_o protestation_n as_o david_n here_o do_v mouth_n too_o crave_v such_o thing_n as_o do_v nothing_o else_o but_o offend_v and_o grieve_v the_o majesty_n of_o god_n for_o in_o that_o be_v our_o whole_a delight_n and_o upon_o it_o bestow_v we_o all_o our_o power_n and_o strength_n when_o then_o we_o shall_v after_o this_o sort_n forsake_v god_n and_o seek_v after_o the_o transitory_a thing_n of_o this_o world_n yea_o the_o which_o can_v know_v this_o to_o be_v such_o a_o benefit_n as_o deserve_v to_o be_v prefer_v above_o all_o the_o rest_n even_o too_o know_v the_o will_n and_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o consider_v that_o in_o it_o consist_v and_o rest_v our_o whole_a salvation_n now_o it_o follow_v in_o the_o four_o verse_n look_v thou_o upon_o i_o and_o be_v merciful_a unto_o i_o as_o thou_o use_v to_o do_v unto_o those_o that_o love_v thy_o name_n here_o david_n right_o well_o show_v what_o the_o desire_n and_o petition_n of_o all_o the_o child_n of_o god_n ought_v to_o be_v to_o wit_n that_o they_o must_v hang_v upon_o the_o mere_a mercy_n of_o god_n and_o to_o know_v that_o all_o their_o felicity_n consist_v therein_o and_o so_o to_o stay_v themselves_o upon_o this_o ground_n and_o foundation_n that_o god_n look_v with_o his_o eye_n upon_o they_o too_o guide_v and_o govern_v they_o now_o this_o thing_n be_v great_o to_o be_v observe_v because_o that_o man_n common_o make_v themselves_o believe_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v bless_v if_o they_o may_v obtain_v that_o which_o their_o flesh_n desire_v as_o when_o the_o glutton_n shall_v have_v wherwithal_o to_o fill_v his_o filthy_a paunch_n so_o that_o it_o may_v stand_v astrout_v the_o whoremonger_n to_o enjoy_v all_o his_o foul_a villainy_n &_o beastly_a lechery_n the_o covetous_a man_n to_o be_v so_o scrape_v as_o that_o he_o care_v not_o what_o he_o get_v nor_o how_o he_o come_v by_o his_o good_n to_o lay_v land_n to_o land_n and_o too_o be_v fill_v with_o a_o other_o man_n blood_n loe_o these_o be_v the_o man_n as_o they_o think_v which_o be_v bless_v yea_o and_o although_o they_o be_v not_o so_o give_v to_o wickedness_n as_o open_o to_o grieve_v the_o majesty_n of_o god_n yet_o for_o all_o that_o you_o shall_v have_v very_o few_o which_o will_v acknowledge_v themselves_o to_o be_v accurse_v but_o that_o god_n have_v care_n over_o they_o and_o their_o salvation_n &_o that_o there_o be_v none_o other_o blessedness_n nor_o felicity_n but_o even_o this_o that_o they_o be_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o under_o his_o protection_n and_o so_o much_o the_o rather_o ought_v we_o too_o record_n and_o have_v often_o in_o mind_n this_o lesson_n when_o as_o david_n say_v o_o look_v upon_o i_o o_o lord_n and_o be_v merciful_a unto_o i_o for_o by_o this_o he_o signify_v unto_o we_o that_o if_o we_o will_v have_v our_o life_n to_o be_v bless_v if_o we_o will_v have_v good_a success_n in_o all_o our_o affair_n lo_o from_o this_o fountain_n must_v we_o draw_v all_o our_o felicity_n which_o be_v the_o providence_n of_o god_n because_o we_o shall_v in_o no_o wise_a doubt_n but_o that_o he_o care_v for_o we_o and_o bestow_v &_o employ_v himself_o for_o our_o preservation_n when_o it_o be_v thus_o with_o we_o all_o the_o rest_n can_v but_o go_v well_o with_o we_o but_o if_o this_o point_n be_v want_v we_o be_v very_o miserable_a although_o it_o seem_v to_o we_o to_o have_v even_o asmuch_o as_n can_v be_v wish_v now_o by_o the_o way_n let_v we_o note_v that_o david_n in_o beseech_v god_n to_o be_v merciful_a unto_o he_o declare_v that_o so_o long_o as_o we_o be_v in_o this_o world_n that_o we_o be_v subject_n too_o a_o number_n of_o calamity_n and_o affliction_n and_o so_o we_o have_v great_a need_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n or_o else_o we_o shall_v carry_v away_o all_o the_o blow_n as_o we_o say_v among_o so_o many_o grievous_a encounter_n as_o
shall_v be_v lamentable_a now_o this_o may_v serve_v we_o for_o two_o purpose_n the_o one_o be_v that_o we_o be_v here_o below_o upon_o the_o earth_n may_v make_v our_o account_n that_o we_o can_v be_v here_o as_o it_o be_v in_o paradise_n to_o have_v such_o rest_n and_o quietness_n as_o we_o will_v chief_o desire_v to_o lack_v nothing_o and_o not_o to_o be_v subject_a to_o any_o grief_n nor_o displeasure_n no_o not_o so_o but_o contrariwise_o let_v we_o know_v that_o here_o god_n subiect_v we_o to_o a_o great_a number_n of_o wretchedness_n and_o misery_n to_o the_o end_n we_o shall_v be_v always_o call_v upon_o he_o for_o his_o mercy_n and_o too_o be_v always_o run_v unto_o he_o for_o it_o lo_o here_o the_o first_o point_n which_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v of_o in_o this_o place_n that_o the_o faithful_a to_o the_o outward_a show_n shall_v be_v very_o miserable_a and_o in_o a_o most_o wretched_a case_n so_o long_o as_o they_o shall_v live_v here_o bylowe_a and_o the_o meaning_n of_o god_n be_v to_o hold_v we_o under_o this_o condition_n to_o the_o end_n to_o awaken_v we_o that_o we_o may_v have_v a_o far_o great_a affection_n to_o call_v upon_o he_o and_o to_o cleave_v whole_o unto_o he_o now_o if_o we_o shall_v have_v this_o consideration_n with_o we_o we_o may_v then_o in_o the_o second_o place_n say_v with_o david_n have_v mercy_n upon_o we_o o_o lord_n that_o be_v to_o say_v we_o may_v be_v assure_v in_o all_o our_o misery_n that_o god_n will_v be_v pitiful_a and_o merciful_a unto_o we_o yea_o so_o that_o we_o desire_v he_o as_o we_o be_v here_o teach_v too_o do_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n namely_o david_n add_v as_o thou_o use_v too_o do_v unto_o those_o which_o love_v thy_o name_n this_o be_v a_o sentence_n of_o judgement_n which_o be_v here_o set_v down_o but_o it_o sometime_o signify_v measure_n sometime_o estate_n order_n or_o fashion_n the_o sense_n be_v not_o dark_a for_o it_o be_v asmuch_o as_n if_o he_o have_v say_v o_o lord_n have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o even_o as_o thou_o be_v wont_a to_o have_v mercy_n upon_o those_o which_o call_v upon_o thy_o name_n now_o we_o be_v to_o gather_v from_o this_o say_n that_o david_n make_v not_o this_o petition_n only_o for_o himself_o but_o have_v set_v down_o unto_o we_o a_o general_a rule_n which_o we_o may_v and_o ought_v too_o apply_v unto_o every_o child_n of_o god_n too_o the_o end_n that_o every_o one_o for_o his_o own_o part_n may_v be_v sure_a that_o god_n will_v have_v mercy_n upon_o he_o and_o stretch_v forth_o his_o hand_n to_o aid_v he_o in_o his_o need_n and_o why_o so_o for_o the_o holy_a ghost_n namely_o pronounce_v that_o it_o be_v the_o ordinary_a manner_n of_o god_n to_o be_v love_v and_o pitiful_a to_o all_o those_o which_o love_v his_o name_n what_o remain_v then_o for_o we_o to_o do_v forsooth_o we_o must_v love_v the_o name_n of_o god_n and_o here_o we_o be_v also_o to_o consider_v what_o this_o say_n mean_v too_o love_v the_o name_n of_o god_n for_o we_o shall_v have_v some_o man_n which_o will_v fear_v god_n so_o so_o and_o yet_o be_v content_v never_o to_o come_v near_o he_o if_o they_o can_v otherwise_o choose_v yea_o they_o will_v not_o stick_v to_o shut_v the_o door_n against_o he_o and_o keep_v themselves_o as_o far_o from_o he_o as_o be_v possible_a now_o david_n show_v here_o unto_o we_o what_o the_o true_a fear_n of_o god_n be_v to_o wit_n that_o we_o must_v love_v he_o of_o our_o own_o good_a will_n and_o that_o with_o reverence_n and_o not_o constrain_o to_o love_n and_o fear_v he_o but_o that_o we_o desire_v too_o come_v unto_o he_o and_o whole_o to_o submit_v ourselves_o unto_o his_o majesty_n if_o we_o shall_v do_v thus_o then_o may_v we_o true_o say_v that_o we_o love_v he_o &_o in_o love_v he_o fear_v he_o also_o in_o very_a deed_n these_o be_v thing_n that_o may_v not_o be_v separate_v because_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o we_o right_o too_o reverence_n god_n and_o to_o fear_v he_o as_o we_o ought_v except_o as_o it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o psalm_n that_o we_o first_o acknowledge_v he_o to_o be_v our_o father_n look_v for_o all_o goodness_n and_o courtesy_n from_o he_o this_o then_o afford_v we_o in_o the_o first_o place_n that_o we_o be_v assure_v that_o god_n love_v we_o that_o we_o must_v take_v he_o as_o for_o our_o father_n that_o we_o feel_v that_o he_o in_o the_o love_a of_o we_o desire_v nothing_o else_o but_o our_o salvation_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o first_o point_n and_o after_o from_o thence_o also_o proceed_v humility_n whenas_o we_o see_v god_n so_o too_o abase_v himself_o as_o too_o seek_v for_o we_o miserable_a creature_n wretched_a worm_n of_o the_o earth_n yea_o even_o very_o condemn_v and_o utter_o lose_v person_n the_o bondslave_n of_o satan_n that_o god_n seek_v for_o we_o even_o in_o hell_n and_o draw_v we_o so_o love_o unto_o himself_o and_o must_v it_o not_o needs_o be_v that_o we_o be_v very_o stubborn_a if_o we_o be_v not_o touch_v and_o move_v to_o come_v unto_o he_o and_o yield_v ourselves_o untoo_o he_o and_o be_v rule_v and_o govern_v by_o his_o hand_n and_o protection_n loe_o say_v i_o how_o we_o ought_v to_o love_v the_o name_n of_o god_n to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v be_v glad_a of_o that_o felicity_n which_o david_n here_o speak_v of_o that_o be_v that_o god_n look_v to_o keep_v we_o through_o his_o providence_n and_o although_o we_o be_v here_o compass_v with_o a_o great_a number_n of_o misery_n afflict_v a_o great_a number_n of_o way_n and_o judge_v to_o be_v most_o wretched_a yet_o god_n be_v at_o hand_n to_o help_v our_o necessity_n and_o namely_o it_o be_v say_v to_o love_v the_o name_n of_o god_n because_o we_o must_v receive_v a_o testimony_n from_o he_o to_o comprehend_v his_o good_a will_n we_o see_v not_o god_n in_o his_o essence_n or_o as_o he_o be_v in_o deed_n but_o he_o manife_v himself_o unto_o we_o by_o a_o neither_o mean_v to_o wit_n that_o we_o may_v behold_v he_o in_o the_o glass_n of_o his_o word_n where_o he_o show_v himself_o unto_o we_o open_o enough_o now_o david_n add_v soon_o after_o order_v my_o step_n in_o thy_o word_n and_o let_v no_o wickedness_n have_v dominion_n over_o i_o here_o we_o see_v more_o clear_o that_o which_o i_o have_v already_o touch_v to_o wit_n what_o the_o petition_n of_o the_o faithful_a aught_o to_o be_v to_o the_o end_n they_o shall_v not_o be_v give_v to_o vain_a thing_n for_o we_o need_v not_o to_o have_v any_o thing_n to_o make_v we_o by_o and_o by_o to_o go_v astray_o see_v our_o own_o nature_n draw_v we_o ready_o enough_o thereto_o there_o be_v no_o question_n but_o that_o we_o will_v go_v more_o than_o a_o foot_n pace_n when_o as_o we_o be_v bend_v too_o do_v mischief_n yea_o we_o will_v trot_v on_o most_o swift_o and_o violent_o even_o as_o wretched_a man_n that_o be_v bewitch_v wherefore_o here_o be_v a_o remedy_n set_v down_o unto_o we_o consider_v that_o our_o nature_n be_v incline_v to_o all_o evil_a and_o carri_v we_o thereto_o headlong_o that_o we_o only_o ought_v to_o endeavour_v ourselves_o too_o bridle_v our_o vain_a and_o wicked_a affection_n and_o beside_o we_o ought_v too_o desire_v god_n to_o keep_v we_o through_o his_o word_n and_o not_o too_o suffer_v any_o iniquity_n too_o reign_v in_o us._n loe_o i_o say_v in_o what_o sort_n all_o the_o faithful_a must_v order_v themselves_o fight_v against_o all_o their_o fleshly_a lust_n for_o it_o be_v meet_v that_o we_o utter_o renounce_v the_o evil_a that_o be_v in_o we_o if_o we_o will_v seek_v after_o god_n and_o come_v unto_o he_o now_o here_o be_v two_o thing_n which_o david_n desier_v to_o have_v his_o so_o otesteppe_n order_v according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o afterward_o that_o no_o iniquity_n have_v dominion_n over_o he_o which_o be_v asmuch_o as_n if_o he_o have_v say_v that_o god_n have_v conform_v he_o to_o his_o word_n and_o give_v he_o power_n and_o strength_n to_o withstand_v all_o temptation_n now_o when_o he_o say_v order_v my_o step_n according_a too_o thy_o word_n he_o mean_v that_o we_o can_v do_v nothing_o at_o all_o except_o god_n govern_v we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n so_o then_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o we_o have_v the_o word_n of_o god_n preach_v unto_o we_o to_o hear_v it_o and_o to_o be_v exercise_v in_o the_o read_n thereof_o but_o it_o be_v god_n that_o must_v put_v to_o his_o help_a hand_n over_o &_o beside_o he_o it_o be_v that_o must_v make_v the_o preach_n of_o it_o effectual_a and_o pierce_v our_o ear_n to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v understande_v that_o which_o be_v set_v down_o
also_o in_o part_n of_o the_o night_n see_v here_o what_o we_o be_v in_o very_a deed_n to_o gather_v out_o of_o this_o place_n but_o first_o we_o must_v mark_v the_o proceed_n of_o david_n for_o after_o he_o have_v speak_v of_o the_o hope_n wherein_o he_o be_v settle_v to_o pray_v untoo_o god_n without_o doubt_v that_o he_o will_v hear_v he_o he_o say_v that_o he_o careful_o meditate_a on_o his_o word_n and_o why_o do_v he_o so_o shall_v that_o which_o be_v necessary_a for_o david_n to_o do_v be_v superfluous_a for_o we_o god_n forbid_v for_o if_o such_o a_o prophet_n as_o he_o have_v need_v too_o arm_n himself_o against_o the_o temptation_n of_o his_o flesh_n against_o the_o infirmity_n wherewith_o he_o may_v be_v assail_v i_o pray_v you_o how_o quick_o shall_v he_o be_v overthrow_v if_o we_o have_v not_o the_o same_o remedy_n which_o we_o use_v and_o the_o courage_n also_o which_o he_o here_o exhort_v we_o unto_o let_v we_o then_o consider_v that_o if_o we_o will_v be_v stay_v upon_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n because_o we_o will_v call_v upon_o he_o in_o the_o time_n of_o need_n we_o ought_v many_o time_n to_o meditate_v upon_o his_o word_n both_o day_n and_o night_n and_o to_o set_v all_o our_o study_n and_o affection_n therein_o and_o see_v what_o the_o cause_n be_v why_o there_o be_v so_o few_o which_o be_v dispose_v to_o pray_v unto_o god_n yea_o and_o when_o they_o be_v thereto_o enforce_v they_o know_v not_o which_o way_n too_o begin_v because_o they_o can_v he_o full_o resolve_v to_o say_v it_o be_v very_o requisite_a that_o when_o i_o shall_v call_v upon_o my_o good_a god_n that_o i_o be_v full_o assure_v that_o he_o will_v not_o refuse_v to_o hear_v i_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o uncertainty_n it_o be_v because_o they_o be_v not_o well_o acquaint_v with_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n for_o a_o man_n will_v think_v that_o it_o be_v even_o enough_o slight_o and_o light_o to_o believe_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v those_o that_o be_v he_o and_o when_o we_o come_v to_o prayer_n with_o this_o thought_n we_o think_v that_o if_o we_o have_v say_v but_o a_o word_n or_o two_o that_o it_o be_v too_o much_o yea_o and_o if_o we_o come_v to_o a_o sermon_n and_o hear_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n speak_v of_o we_o think_v it_o by_o and_o by_o too_o be_v a_o unprofitable_a speech_n and_o will_v say_v that_o it_o be_v more_o than_o need_v for_o what_o be_v he_o that_o understand_v not_o that_o well_o enough_o and_o in_o the_o mean_a while_n behold_v a_o mighty_a great_a temptation_n like_v unto_o a_o boisterous_a whirlwind_n and_o tempest_n even_o at_o hand_n and_o then_o he_o which_o think_v himself_o so_o able_a a_o man_n be_v become_v a_o very_a milksop_n he_o will_v look_v whether_o god_n will_v have_v pity_n of_o he_o he_o will_v possible_o imagine_v that_o he_o have_v turn_v his_o back_n yea_o or_o else_o he_o will_v doubt_v of_o his_o providence_n whether_o he_o have_v any_o care_n of_o the_o world_n or_o no_o there_o be_v a_o thousand_o fantasy_n which_o the_o devil_n go_v about_o to_o put_v in_o our_o mind_n and_o when_o we_o be_v in_o this_o case_n see_v we_o be_v so_o astonish_v as_o that_o there_o be_v no_o come_n for_o we_o too_o pray_v unto_o god_n and_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n it_o be_v because_o we_o have_v not_o be_v careful_a to_o meditate_v upon_o his_o promise_n and_o therefore_o we_o ought_v so_o much_o the_o more_o thorough_o to_o consider_v of_o this_o lesson_n when_o as_o it_o be_v say_v that_o david_n his_o eye_n prevent_v the_o night_n watch_v too_o meditate_v upon_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n let_v we_o now_o compare_v ourselves_o with_o he_o but_o it_o be_v so_o far_o of_o that_o any_o of_o we_o in_o particular_a have_v this_o care_n whereof_o mention_n be_v here_o make_v as_o that_o we_o can_v by_o any_o mean_v possible_a be_v train_v unto_o it_o and_o although_o god_n bid_v we_o to_o come_v unto_o he_o yet_o can_v we_o be_v bring_v to_o come_v any_o thing_n near_o he_o see_v how_o the_o bell_n shall_v ring_v every_o day_n to_o move_v we_o to_o come_v to_o the_o sermon_n god_n there_o tell_v we_o of_o his_o will_n he_o declare_v unto_o we_o that_o he_o be_v ready_a to_o receive_v we_o to_o his_o mercy_n as_o often_o as_o we_o shall_v call_v upon_o he_o now_o every_o of_o we_o may_v very_o well_o see_v that_o we_o pass_v not_o of_o his_o help_n one_o minute_n of_o a_o hour_n and_o yet_o how_o many_o be_v there_o notwithstanding_o which_o will_v vouchsafe_v too_o step_v one_o foot_n too_o come_v to_o occupy_v themselves_o about_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n that_o their_o memory_n may_v be_v refresh_v in_o they_o to_o the_o end_n they_o may_v so_o much_o the_o better_o be_v remember_v of_o they_o nay_o we_o shall_v sarce_o have_v a_o number_n of_o they_o come_v to_o it_o on_o the_o sunday_n yea_o and_o if_o percase_o they_o come_v once_o they_o think_v it_o too_o be_v as_o it_o be_v over_o much_o and_o forsooth_o they_o must_v not_o come_v thither_o neither_o every_o sunday_n because_o their_o ear_n will_v be_v over_o much_o fill_v with_o noise_n and_o again_o such_o as_o do_v come_v too_o it_o with_o what_o affection_n come_v they_o think_v you_o very_o because_o that_o they_o can_v deny_v but_o that_o there_o must_v be_v one_o day_n in_o the_o week_n for_o they_o to_o meet_v together_o and_o beside_o they_o will_v for_o once_o come_v thither_o but_o it_o shall_v be_v to_o sleep_v so_o that_o they_o understand_v and_o carry_v away_o asmuch_o as_o these_o pillar_n or_o else_o the_o stole_n whereon_o they_o sit_v loe_o here_o how_o a_o great_a number_n of_o the_o people_n come_v to_o the_o sermon_n yea_o and_o there_o be_v no_o small_a number_n which_o will_v come_v thither_o even_o to_o mock_v god_n as_o we_o see_v these_o scoffer_n and_o giber_n who_o come_v to_o none_o other_o end_n but_o too_o despite_o he_o bring_v with_o they_o whorish_a and_o shameless_a face_n and_o such_o a_o beastly_a impudency_n as_o can_v be_v great_a all_o this_o we_o see_v now_o let_v we_o consider_v that_o it_o be_v so_o far_o of_o that_o our_o slothfulness_n shall_v be_v excuse_v as_o that_o god_n can_v but_o just_o punish_v we_o in_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v deprive_v of_o the_o ability_n to_o call_v upon_o he_o in_o our_o need_n and_o shall_v have_v our_o mouth_n also_o stop_v and_o afterward_o the_o mischief_n shall_v increase_v daily_o more_o and_o more_o until_o such_o time_n as_o we_o be_v come_v even_o to_o the_o depth_n of_o the_o bottomless_a pit_n that_o be_v to_o say_v we_o shall_v be_v utter_o exclude_v from_o the_o help_n of_o our_o good_a god_n that_o he_o will_v retire_v himself_o from_o we_o and_o clear_o banish_v we_o his_o kingdom_n behold_v here_o the_o fruit_n which_o commerh_n by_o our_o negligence_n when_o as_o we_o shall_v make_v no_o account_v of_o the_o exercise_v of_o ourselves_o in_o this_o study_n of_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n now_o david_n add_v hear_v my_o voice_n o_o lord_n at_o according_v unto_o thy_o love_a kindness_n quicken_v i_o according_a to_o thy_o judgement_n here_o david_n declare_v yet_o more_o plain_o upon_o what_o ground_n he_o lay_v his_o foundation_n of_o pray_v unto_o god_n to_o wit_n he_o bring_v no_o kind_n of_o presumption_n with_o he_o think_v to_o make_v account_n of_o this_o or_o that_o and_o so_o to_o be_v think_v very_o worthy_a that_o god_n shall_v hear_v he_o but_o he_o prefer_v the_o goodness_n and_o faithfulness_n of_o god_n above_o all_o his_o own_o woorthiness_n loe_o here_o whereunto_o we_o must_v look_v if_o we_o will_v have_v god_n to_o be_v merciful_a unto_o us._n and_o when_o as_o we_o will_v profit_v ourselves_o by_o our_o prayer_n we_o must_v not_o once_o talk_v of_o bring_v in_o of_o any_o thing_n of_o we_o with_o we_o ne_o yet_o allege_v this_o thing_n nor_o that_o as_o think_v too_o bind_v god_n unto_o we_o for_o some_o good_a turn_n that_o we_o have_v do_v he_o but_o too_o have_v this_o principal_a regard_n with_o we_o god_n be_v good_a and_o faithful_a and_o just_a see_v then_o whereon_o it_o be_v that_o we_o must_v settle_v our_o confidence_n be_v so_o let_v we_o now_o consider_v what_o he_o be_v who_o god_n will_v forsake_v once_o we_o be_v his_o creature_n and_o even_o as_o he_o have_v create_v and_o fashion_v we_o so_o also_o will_v yea_o unto_o who_o he_o have_v grant_v so_o great_a dignity_n and_o excellency_n for_o we_o have_v a_o thing_n excel_v all_o other_o his_o creature_n which_o be_v this_o that_o god_n have_v imprinted-his_a own_o similitude_n and_o likeness_n in_o we_o now_o when_o as_o he_o have_v exalt_v we_o unto_o so_o high_a a_o degree_n of_o honour_n will_v he_o think_v you_o now_o forsake_v we_o
