no_o and_o thus_o the_o soul_n float_v above_o water_n yet_o fear_v it_o shall_v sink_v at_o last_o notwithstanding_o all_o that_o god_n have_v say_v i_o will_v answer_v therefore_o brief_o these_o two_o thing_n in_o general_a 1._o i_o shall_v show_v you_o to_o what_o end_n and_o for_o what_o use_n and_o purpose_n god_n have_v make_v absolute_a promise_n not_o only_o to_o they_o that_o be_v for_o the_o present_a his_o people_n but_o to_o they_o that_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o estate_n and_o condition_n be_v not_o 2._o i_o shall_v show_v you_o how_o every_o christian_n be_v to_o make_v use_n of_o they_o and_o how_o and_o when_o he_o ought_v to_o apply_v they_o for_o the_o first_o of_o these_o 1._o first_o i_o conceive_v that_o as_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n himself_o there_o be_v many_o end_n which_o i_o shall_v not_o mention_v as_o be_v needless_a so_o in_o respect_n of_o man_n there_o be_v principal_o these_o two_o end_n for_o which_o the_o lord_n have_v make_v absolute_a promise_n 1._o to_o raise_v up_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o helpless_a sinful_a curse_a lose_a sinner_n in_o his_o own_o eye_n to_o some_o hope_n at_o least_o of_o mercy_n and_o help_v from_o the_o lord_n for_o thus_o usual_o every_o man_n soul_n be_v wrought_v to_o who_o the_o lord_n do_v intend_v grace_n and_o merâ—y_n he_o first_o turn_v his_o eye_n inward_a and_o make_v he_o to_o see_v he_o be_v stark_o nought_o and_o that_o he_o have_v not_o one_o dram_n of_o grace_n in_o he_o who_o think_v himself_o rich_a and_o want_v nothing_o before_o and_o consequent_o that_o he_o be_v under_o the_o curse_n and_o wrath_n of_o god_n for_o the_o present_a and_o that_o if_o the_o lord_n shall_v but_o stop_v his_o breath_n and_o cover_v his_o face_n and_o take_v he_o away_o which_o he_o may_v easy_o do_v and_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v he_o will_v that_o he_o be_v undo_v for_o ever_o hereupon_o the_o soul_n be_v awaken_v and_o fall_v to_o his_o kitchen_n physic_n as_o i_o speak_v before_o pray_v and_o hear_v and_o amends_o and_o strive_v to_o grow_v better_a and_o to_o stop_v up_o every_o hole_n and_o to_o amend_v itself_o of_o every_o sin_n but_o find_v itself_o to_o grow_v worse_a and_o worse_o and_o perceive_v thereby_o that_o he_o do_v but_o stir_v and_o not_o cleanse_v the_o puddle_n and_o that_o it_o be_v not_o amend_v of_o nature_n that_o he_o must_v attain_v to_o but_o he_o must_v believe_v and_o make_v a_o long_a arm_n to_o heaven_n and_o apprehend_v the_o lord_n jesus_n which_o so_o few_o know_v or_o ever_o shall_v enjoy_v and_o hereby_o quench_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n i_o say_v find_v he_o can_v do_v thus_o no_o nor_o no_o mean_n of_o themselves_o can_v help_v he_o to_o this_o hereupon_o he_o be_v forâ—aken_v of_o all_o his_o self_n wisdom_n and_o of_o all_o his_o vain_a hope_n and_o now_o sit_v down_o like_o a_o desolate_a widow_n comfortless_a and_o sorrowful_a and_o think_v there_o be_v â—o_z way_n but_o death_n and_o hell_n and_o the_o wrath_n of_o a_o displease_a god_n to_o be_v expect_v and_o if_o any_o come_v and_o tell_v this_o soul_n of_o god_n mercy_n and_o pity_n to_o sinner_n i_o say_v he_o its_o true_a he_o be_v even_o infinite_o merciful_a unto_o they_o who_o be_v rend_v from_o their_o sin_n and_o that_o can_v believe_v but_o that_o i_o can_v do_v and_o be_o sure_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a for_o to_o do_v and_o therefore_o what_o cause_n have_v i_o but_o to_o lie_v down_o in_o my_o sorrow_n and_o to_o expect_v my_o fatal_a stroke_n every_o moment_n reply_v again_o upon_o this_o soul_n and_o tell_v he_o that_o though_o he_o can_v believe_v or_o loosen_v his_o heart_n from_o sin_n yet_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v promise_v to_o do_v it_o that_o he_o will_v subdue_v all_o his_o iniquity_n and_o he_o will_v pardon_v all_o his_o sin_n and_o that_o he_o will_v cause_v man_n to_o walk_v in_o his_o way_n etc._n etc._n true_o say_v the_o soul_n again_o he_o will_v do_v thus_o for_o his_o own_o people_n and_o for_o they_o he_o have_v choose_v but_o i_o never_o have_v dram_n of_o grace_n in_o my_o heart_n and_o there_o be_v no_o evidence_n that_o the_o lord_n be_v i_o own_o or_o that_o i_o be_o his_o here_o again_o the_o soul_n lie_v down_o until_o the_o lord_n discover_v to_o the_o soul_n that_o he_o will_v do_v these_o thing_n for_o some_o that_o have_v no_o grace_n or_o never_o have_v grace_n for_o these_o promise_n be_v make_v to_o such_o here_o upon_o the_o soul_n think_v thus_o these_o promise_n be_v make_v for_o some_o that_o be_v filthy_a for_o why_o shall_v god_n pour_v clean_a water_n upon_o they_o for_o some_o that_o be_v hard-hearted_a for_o why_o shall_v he_o promise_v to_o take_v away_o the_o stony_a heart_n from_o they_o etc._n etc._n and_o if_o unto_o some_o such_o and_o i_o be_v such_o a_o one_o why_o may_v not_o the_o lord_n possible_o intend_v and_o include_v i_o see_v he_o have_v not_o by_o his_o promise_n exclude_v nor_o shut_v i_o out_o indeed_o i_o dare_v not_o say_v he_o will_v but_o yet_o how_o do_v i_o or_o man_n or_o angel_n know_v but_o yet_o i_o may_v be_v one_o hereupon_o hope_n be_v raise_v to_o life_n again_o see_v god_n have_v undertake_v the_o work_n for_o the_o vile_a it_o be_v possible_a he_o may_v do_v it_o for_o i_o now_o when_o i_o be_o vile_a and_o can_v do_v nothing_o for_o myself_o and_o thus_o you_o may_v see_v the_o first_o end_n and_o use_v of_o absolute_a promise_n to_o be_v as_o it_o be_v twig_n to_o uphold_v the_o sink_a spirit_n of_o hopeless_a helpless_a distress_a soul_n 2._o the_o second_o end_n and_o use_n of_o they_o be_v this_o to_o create_v and_o draw_v out_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o promise_n
