and_o weak_a faith_n 10.14_o and_o he_o who_o obtain_v they_o to_o be_v in_o especial_a favour_n with_o god_n as_o in_o the_o forename_a parable_n be_v most_o lively_a to_o be_v see_v where_o the_o father_n resemble_v god_n be_v say_v to_o have_v meet_v his_o lose_a son_n before_o he_o come_v at_o he_o and_o to_o have_v embrace_v and_o kiss_v he_o after_o that_o he_o be_v resolve_v in_o himself_o to_o go_v and_o seek_v to_o he_o for_o favour_n and_o pardon_n and_o to_o acknowledge_v his_o fault_n unto_o he_o etc._n etc._n now_o be_v there_o any_o thing_n think_v we_o in_o the_o natural_a father_n which_o be_v not_o much_o more_o in_o the_o father_n of_o mercy_n who_o exceed_v all_o the_o father_n of_o the_o earth_n in_o kindness_n and_o compassion_n thus_o the_o lord_n by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n work_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o child_n and_o with_o all_o these_o forementioned_a grace_n which_o he_o give_v they_o he_o draw_v they_o to_o prize_n and_o value_v this_o benefit_n of_o redemption_n so_o high_o as_o the_o wise_a merchant_n do_v the_o field_n 13.44_o wherein_o the_o pearl_n be_v hide_v sell_v all_o to_o buy_v it_o so_o do_v they_o i_o say_v set_v light_n by_o all_o thing_n in_o comparison_n of_o this_o and_o be_v carry_v with_o this_o mind_n that_o they_o will_v forsake_v whatsoever_o may_v hinder_v for_o the_o obtain_n of_o it_o the_o six_o work_n they_o forsake_v all_o for_o it_o and_o high_o prize_v it_o but_o what_o then_o some_o perhaps_o will_v say_v do_v you_o affirm_v that_o these_o thing_n can_v do_v a_o man_n any_o good_a without_o faith_n for_o of_o this_o nothing_o have_v yet_o be_v say_v and_o do_v you_o affirm_v a_o man_n to_o be_v justify_v for_o such_o a_o one_o be_v he_o who_o be_v in_o favour_n with_o god_n have_v no_o faith_n or_o that_o any_o thing_n be_v accept_v of_o god_n which_o he_o do_v as_o his_o desire_n to_o be_v forgive_v his_o hunger_a after_o it_o his_o humiliation_n access_n to_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o confession_n of_o sin_n all_o these_o be_v without_o faith_n or_o if_o not_o so_o do_v you_o then_o say_v that_o we_o ourselves_o must_v thus_o prepare_v ourselves_o to_o receive_v faith_n but_o that_o be_v to_o attribute_v free_a will_n unto_o man_n be_v yet_o in_o the_o estate_n of_o misery_n and_o bondage_n and_o unrenew_v as_o be_v yet_o without_o faith_n to_o the_o first_o i_o say_v that_o although_o none_o of_o these_o be_v faith_n yet_o i_o say_v that_o they_o be_v not_o without_o it_o as_o i_o will_v more_o full_o show_v afterward_o neither_o that_o god_n be_v receive_v this_o faith_n into_o his_o heart_n so_o certain_o and_o easy_o judge_v of_o it_o as_o of_o those_o other_o gift_n which_o accompany_v it_o to_o the_o latter_a objection_n i_o answer_v that_o i_o be_o far_o from_o ascribe_v to_o man_n unrenew_v any_o inherent_a goodness_n whereby_o he_o may_v prepare_v himself_o to_o receive_v faith_n he_o be_v i_o say_v destitute_a of_o all_o goodness_n in_o his_o will_n and_o of_o power_n to_o do_v good_a such_o grace_n be_v give_v he_o of_o god_n as_o be_v say_v before_o for_o god_n find_v all_o man_n in_o their_o filthiness_n and_o gore_n blood_n as_o the_o prophet_n ezechiel_n speak_v 16.6_o and_o she_o who_o he_o vouchsafe_v to_o make_v his_o belove_a spouse_n i_o mean_v his_o church_n he_o raise_v out_o of_o the_o dust_n wash_v and_o cleanse_v she_o from_o her_o filthiness_n wherein_o he_o find_v she_o and_o then_o take_v she_o to_o he_o to_o delight_v in_o as_o his_o dear_a and_o only_a spouse_n it_o be_v the_o lord_n therefore_o which_o be_v the_o author_n 12.2_o and_o finisher_n of_o his_o faith_n who_o shall_v be_v save_v and_o he_o as_o he_o have_v abase_v he_o and_o fill_v his_o heart_n with_o sorrow_n for_o the_o same_o purpose_n so_o it_o be_v he_o that_o soak_v it_o by_o little_a and_o little_a and_o season_v it_o in_o time_n with_o faith_n hope_n and_o comfort_n this_o be_v his_o only_a work_n and_o although_o it_o be_v hard_a to_o determine_v when_o faith_n be_v wrought_v as_o i_o have_v say_v and_o how_o long_o dreadful_a fear_n continue_v yet_o by_o mean_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o misery_n and_o redemption_n god_n work_v they_o both_o in_o his_o heart_n and_o that_o when_o and_o in_o what_o manner_n it_o seem_v best_a to_o his_o wisdom_n so_o that_o it_o may_v be_v see_v that_o it_o be_v so_o and_o thus_o i_o have_v answer_v these_o two_o objection_n i_o will_v now_o proceed_v moreful_o to_o show_v how_o he_o guide_v &_o bring_v home_o this_o lose_a sheep_n as_o i_o have_v in_o some_o sort_n proceed_v to_o do_v before_o i_o be_v occasion_v to_o digress_v a_o while_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o two_o former_a question_n now_o answer_v to_o proceed_v therefore_o with_o this_o person_n who_o the_o lord_n will_v save_v when_o he_o have_v wrought_v thus_o far_o in_o he_o earnest_o to_o desire_v the_o remedy_n against_o his_o misery_n he_o leave_v he_o not_o there_o as_o many_o through_o ignorance_n &_o want_n of_o wise_a build_n up_o be_v hold_v long_o at_o this_o stay_n and_o although_o not_o lie_v in_o utter_a unbelief_n yet_o not_o bold_a to_o apply_v god_n promise_n to_o their_o soul_n even_o as_o there_o be_v many_o who_o have_v have_v compunction_n of_o heart_n that_o never_o go_v further_o but_o waver_o be_v off_o and_o on_o and_o when_o the_o desire_n be_v not_o accomplish_v the_o heart_n faint_v and_o they_o for_o all_o their_o desire_n see_v it_o vanish_v away_o &_o be_v not_o constant_a fall_v away_o altogether_o but_o god_n go_v further_a with_o this_o person_n as_o i_o have_v say_v for_o he_o have_v now_o with_o the_o skilful_a merchant_n weigh_v the_o price_n of_o this_o pearl_n pearl_n namely_o to_o have_v christ_n to_o become_v he_o have_v it_o in_o such_o estimation_n that_o he_o count_v mean_o of_o all_o thing_n in_o comparison_n of_o this_o and_o in_o good_a advisednes_n sell_v all_o that_o he_o have_v to_o buy_v it_o but_o what_o have_v he_o you_o will_v ask_v of_o his_o own_o to_o purchase_v or_o come_v into_o the_o possession_n of_o it_o as_o for_o his_o good_n and_o riches_n whatsoever_o he_o enjoy_v they_o be_v not_o his_o own_o but_o a_o other_o and_o borrow_v 16.12_o yet_o many_o thousand_o poor_a soul_n which_o shall_v be_v save_v have_v little_a or_o no_o wealth_n at_o all_o but_o this_o precious_a pearl_n be_v not_o buy_v with_o money_n what_o have_v he_o then_o you_o say_v to_o procure_v it_o 55.1_o very_o he_o have_v nothing_o but_o a_o interest_n and_o hold_v in_o sinful_a pleasure_n sin_n and_o worldly_a lust_n but_o alas_o some_o man_n will_v say_v what_o do_v you_o name_v of_o they_o as_o thing_n any_o thing_n worth_a but_o i_o say_v again_o i_o must_v mention_v that_o which_o he_o have_v of_o his_o own_o and_o that_o be_v his_o sin_n which_o though_o every_o reasonable_a man_n will_v say_v that_o it_o be_v not_o worth_a the_o mention_v yet_o it_o be_v sometime_o more_o precious_a to_o he_o then_o silver_n and_o in_o account_n above_o the_o pure_a gold_n that_o and_o therefore_o to_o renounce_v it_o be_v no_o easy_a nor_o small_a matter_n and_o yet_o so_o well_o it_o fall_v out_o for_o he_o there_o be_v no_o other_o thing_n require_v of_o he_o to_o the_o attain_n of_o the_o forementioned_a pearl_n than_o the_o cast_v away_o and_o the_o forsake_v of_o that_o his_o sin_n for_o so_o the_o lord_n plain_o testify_v he_o that_o deny_v himself_o he_o shall_v be_v my_o disciple_n and_o whosoever_o forsake_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v 19.29_o which_o god_n condemn_v he_o shall_v have_v a_o hundred_o fold_n more_o than_o he_o forgo_v so_o bountiful_a a_o rewarder_n be_v the_o lord_n of_o all_o that_o seek_v he_o and_o afterward_o eternal_a they_o how_o much_o more_o ought_v we_o to_o praise_v the_o lord_n daily_o for_o his_o mercy_n renew_v upon_o we_o therefore_o do_v david_n the_o faithful_a servant_n of_o god_n force_v himself_o to_o perform_v this_o duty_n as_o too_o slothful_a in_o his_o own_o judgement_n though_o we_o read_v of_o none_o more_o continual_o occupy_v in_o it_o psalm_n 103.3_o say_v praise_v thou_o the_o lord_n o_o my_o soul_n and_o all_o that_o be_v within_o thou_o praise_v his_o holy_a name_n and_o further_o he_o say_v that_o he_o will_v be_v ever_o set_v forth_o his_o goodness_n and_o praise_v his_o name_n always_o and_o yet_o that_o none_o may_v hinder_v this_o duty_n in_o we_o by_o say_v we_o be_v not_o bind_v to_o follow_v no_o not_o good_a example_n in_o all_o thing_n let_v we_o well_o weigh_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n by_o the_o apostle_n 5.18_o say_v in_o all_o thing_n be_v thankful_a as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v that_o our_o whole_a life_n ought_v to_o be_v a_o thanksgiving_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o life_n when_o we_o can_v be_v thankful_a and_o what_o the_o thankfulness_n be_v which_o shall_v daily_o be_v in_o we_o look_v in_o the_o former_a treatise_n point_n the_o next_o duty_n to_o be_v daily_o perform_v of_o we_o pray_v be_v watchfulness_n and_o prayer_n of_o which_o two_o as_o the_o first_o ought_v to_o be_v continual_a even_o to_o oversee_v our_o whole_a work_n in_o and_o through_o the_o day_n and_o to_o look_v before_o we_o that_o all_o may_v be_v do_v to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n for_o as_o the_o eyelid_n preserve_v the_o tender_a eye_n from_o annoyance_n so_o do_v this_o our_o life_n from_o offence_n and_o our_o foot_n from_o fall_v so_o this_o latter_a namely_o prayer_n be_v to_o be_v as_o a_o help_n and_o handmaid_n unto_o that_o and_o although_o i_o prescribe_v no_o certain_a rule_n nor_o set_v hour_n to_o the_o solemn_a perform_n of_o this_o duty_n 5.17_o because_o we_o be_v teach_v to_o pray_v always_o at_o any_o time_n as_o we_o shall_v have_v fit_a opportunity_n yet_o ought_v our_o heart_n to_o be_v lift_v up_o to_o god_n often_o have_v ever_o occasion_n and_o sometime_o solemn_o and_o by_o set_a prayer_n pour_v out_o our_o complaint_n and_o make_v our_o request_n unto_o he_o both_o of_o they_o be_v so_o far_o to_o be_v in_o use_n with_o we_o as_o we_o be_v desirous_a to_o retain_v sound_a peace_n and_o quiet_a mind_n towards_o god_n and_o to_o be_v free_a from_o or_o at_o least_o not_o to_o be_v overcome_v of_o temptation_n which_o see_v we_o be_v subject_a unto_o every_o day_n it_o can_v be_v doubt_v of_o but_o as_o the_o one_o shall_v not_o cease_v i_o mean_v watchfulness_n but_o be_v work_v in_o we_o continual_o and_o keep_v we_o wake_v out_o of_o spiritual_a slumber_n throughout_o the_o day_n so_o the_o other_o which_o be_v prayer_n shall_v quicken_v and_o sharpen_v it_o and_o both_o of_o they_o strengthen_v we_o be_v oft_o and_o usual_a with_o we_o against_o all_o occasion_n which_o may_v else_o over-match_v us._n and_o can_v any_o be_v ignorant_a when_o our_o saviour_n teach_v we_o to_o pray_v every_o day_n for_o our_o daily_a bread_n but_o that_o we_o shall_v pray_v every_o day_n for_o grace_n to_o be_v guide_v aright_o and_o comfort_v there_o be_v as_o great_a need_n of_o it_o and_o more_o then_o of_o the_o other_o the_o same_o thing_n he_o mean_v when_o he_o utter_v a_o parable_n to_o they_o to_o this_o end_n that_o they_o ought_v to_o pray_v always_o and_o not_o to_o wax_v faint_a but_o ever_o willing_a though_o not_o ever_o able_a so_o that_o the_o life_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v no_o day_n well_o pass_v when_o prayer_n as_o it_o have_v be_v before_o describe_v be_v not_o one_o member_n &_o part_n of_o it_o the_o last_o point_n of_o our_o direction_n be_v that_o we_o by_o mean_n of_o all_o these_o peace_n as_o our_o faith_n and_o fear_v of_o displease_v god_n etc._n etc._n may_v keep_v and_o hold_v fast_o our_o holy_a and_o most_o sweet_a peace_n with_o god_n and_o our_o rejoice_v 1.12_o which_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o this_o christian_a walk_v and_o a_o unseparable_a companion_n unto_o the_o same_o i_o have_v teach_v this_o in_o general_a before_o only_o now_o i_o show_v that_o it_o be_v daily_o to_o be_v keep_v and_o maintain_v of_o we_o in_o such_o wise_a that_o as_o we_o regard_v our_o bodily_a maintenance_n while_o we_o live_v here_o so_o shall_v we_o provide_v that_o this_o our_o peace_n which_o pass_v understanding_n be_v not_o break_v off_o betwixt_o god_n and_o us._n if_o it_o be_v ask_v how_o this_o shall_v be_v the_o apostle_n say_v 5.1_o if_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n in_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n we_o have_v and_o do_v enjoy_v it_o and_o we_o have_v hear_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v both_o give_v liberty_n yea_o and_o commandment_n to_o his_o child_n that_o they_o shall_v daily_o believe_v and_o lay_v hold_v on_o eternal_a life_n and_o rest_v themselves_o in_o the_o assurance_n of_o his_o love_n and_o how_o can_v this_o exclude_v that_o peace_n which_o we_o speak_v of_o nay_o our_o rejoice_v in_o the_o lord_n which_o be_v rather_o a_o degree_n beyond_o this_o peace_n we_o be_v command_v to_o entertain_v and_o retain_v always_o that_o be_v 4.4_o at_o all_o time_n that_o none_o may_v imagine_v that_o i_o mean_v we_o shall_v only_o some_o one_o time_n in_o the_o day_n or_o other_o possess_v and_o enjoy_v it_o neither_o indeed_o be_v any_o part_n of_o our_o life_n any_o day_n pleasant_a unto_o we_o without_o it_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n do_v very_o fit_o meet_v with_o a_o objection_n of_o we_o in_o the_o forename_a scripture_n thus_o that_o if_o any_o of_o we_o dare_v not_o presume_v so_o far_o as_o to_o take_v our_o part_n in_o continual_a rejoice_v in_o the_o lord_n or_o if_o we_o shall_v think_v that_o the_o apostle_n be_v not_o well_o advise_v in_o offer_v so_o great_a liberty_n unto_o we_o he_o repeat_v his_o word_n thus_o again_o i_o say_v rejoice_v as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v you_o who_o be_v careful_a over_o yourselves_o and_o over_o other_o for_o to_o such_o he_o speak_v be_v you_o merry_a and_o joyful_a in_o the_o lord_n from_o time_n to_o time_n 5.16_o yea_o and_o so_o as_o no_o worldly_a sorrow_n do_v break_v it_o off_o now_o i_o have_v show_v what_o be_v the_o necessary_a grace_n which_o shall_v accompany_v the_o life_n of_o any_o of_o they_o so_o yet_o he_o must_v not_o think_v but_o that_o there_o be_v other_o particular_a action_n beside_o these_o but_o they_o be_v all_o to_o be_v well_o order_v and_o govern_v by_o these_o and_o now_o somewhat_o i_o will_v set_v down_o about_o they_o not_o unprofitable_a and_o needless_a i_o have_v brief_o prove_v that_o some_o certain_a manner_n of_o direct_v a_o christian_n daily_o be_v require_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o that_o it_o be_v no_o fancy_n of_o man_n brain_n thus_o near_o and_o narow_o to_o look_v to_o himself_o and_o have_v set_v down_o a_o draught_n thereof_o out_o of_o the_o scripture_n and_o therefore_o man_n must_v know_v direction_n that_o it_o be_v their_o sin_n when_o they_o be_v not_o guide_v by_o these_o rule_n in_o the_o daily_a course_n of_o their_o live_n i_o say_v when_o these_o accompany_v they_o not_o whatsoever_o their_o calling_n be_v or_o the_o action_n which_o they_o be_v occupy_v about_o it_o be_v their_o sin_n whether_o it_o be_v of_o ignorance_n that_o they_o know_v they_o not_o which_o be_v the_o less_o if_o they_o be_v willing_a to_o learn_v or_o carelessness_n or_o wilfulness_n that_o they_o do_v not_o or_o will_v not_o regard_v they_o and_o be_v sin_n it_o be_v to_o be_v resist_v see_v no_o sin_n be_v to_o be_v bear_v withal_o or_o rest_v in_o and_o that_o it_o may_v be_v think_v more_o necessary_a to_o be_v daily_o guide_v in_o this_o manner_n we_o must_v know_v that_o these_o grace_n which_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o be_v not_o at_o some_o one_o
as_o appear_v by_o the_o parable_n of_o the_o talent_n 25.14_o deliver_v to_o be_v occupy_v till_o it_o shall_v be_v demand_v how_o they_o be_v employ_v demand_v and_o by_o that_o of_o the_o steward_n who_o be_v call_v to_o give_v a_o account_n of_o his_o stewardship_n the_o account_n which_o shall_v then_o be_v demand_v shall_v be_v according_a to_o the_o doctrine_n which_o have_v be_v set_v they_o through_o practice_n of_o they_o that_o be_v a_o ready_a mind_n to_o use_v the_o world_n sober_o and_o aright_o and_o desirous_a lest_o we_o shall_v deceive_v ourselves_o through_o self-love_n both_o to_o learn_v by_o the_o public_a ministry_n and_o by_o our_o private_a read_n as_o also_o by_o the_o help_n of_o any_o faithful_a brother_n which_o can_v show_v we_o what_o blemish_n remain_v to_o annoy_v and_o hurt_v us._n thus_o use_v both_o remedy_n and_o reason_n from_o time_n to_o time_n for_o this_o must_v be_v no_o work_n of_o a_o day_n or_o a_o year_n continuance_n with_o fervent_a point_n or_o property_n of_o covetousness_n that_o i_o hold_v they_o for_o comely_a ornament_n if_o they_o be_v not_o choke_v and_o overgrow_v with_o the_o weed_n of_o their_o corruption_n particular_a yea_o i_o say_v more_o that_o ignorance_n and_o unskilfulnesse_n if_o you_o except_o the_o contrary_a extremity_n subtlety_n and_o craftiness_n be_v one_o of_o the_o great_a occasion_n of_o evil_a deal_n among_o man_n also_o i_o deny_v not_o but_o that_o forecast_a and_o thrifty_a providence_n in_o a_o family_n 41.35.36_o be_v both_o lawful_a and_o meet_a and_o that_o no_o more_o be_v spend_v then_o for_o necessary_a and_o comfortable_a use_n to_o make_v provision_n also_o of_o thing_n needful_a in_o the_o fit_a time_n so_o as_o it_o be_v without_o fraudulent_a deal_n in_o forehand_n bargain_n also_o good_a husbandry_n wariness_n in_o their_o do_n sure_a binding_n of_o man_n in_o their_o contract_n and_o covenant_n and_o sufficient_a security_n for_o mortality_n sake_n man_n calling_n with_o such_o other_o like_a religion_n and_o god_n word_n allow_v they_o all_o note_n and_o all_o to_o this_o end_n that_o the_o more_o outward_a danger_n a_o man_n can_v avoid_v forementioned_a liberty_n which_o be_v well_o use_v be_v also_o commendable_a virtue_n grow_v into_o ill_a report_n among_o the_o ignorant_a and_o unstayed_a which_o otherwise_o be_v not_o reproachful_a neither_o deserve_v any_o blame_n and_o this_o i_o have_v speak_v to_o meet_v with_o a_o objection_n which_o may_v rise_v in_o the_o mind_n of_o some_o by_o occasion_n of_o that_o which_o go_v before_o and_o if_o this_o content_v they_o not_o they_o show_v themselves_o just_o to_o be_v suspect_v of_o worse_a meaning_n then_o in_o their_o objection_n they_o pretend_v as_o for_o they_o who_o say_v if_o they_o have_v riches_n they_o may_v joint_n their_o enemy_n and_o stand_v against_o they_o and_o do_v many_o other_o thing_n which_o now_o they_o can_v for_o want_v of_o they_o it_o be_v not_o worth_a the_o answer_n for_o god_n do_v not_o give_v these_o his_o blessing_n to_o man_n to_o bestow_v they_o on_o their_o lust_n 3.14_o but_o to_o profitable_a and_o necessary_a use_n and_o where_o man_n do_v not_o make_v that_o reckon_n of_o they_o and_o learn_v not_o to_o be_v master_n over_o they_o rather_o than_o to_o be_v servant_n and_o slave_n to_o they_o what_o one_o reader_n of_o as_o i_o say_v before_o that_o he_o be_v in_o no_o way_n to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n who_o be_v yet_o void_a of_o this_o knowledge_n altogether_o of_o his_o misery_n i_o mean_v and_o of_o the_o remedy_n which_o kind_n of_o people_n although_o they_o be_v least_o trouble_v in_o their_o conscience_n of_o all_o other_o man_n but_o be_v merry_a mourn_v as_o though_o no_o
