two_o part_n namely_o pardon_v of_o sin_n and_o regeneration_n and_o david_n have_v in_o the_o former_a verse_n pray_v for_o grace_n and_o mercy_n that_o god_n will_v have_v mercy_n upon_o he_o can_v befall_v the_o child_n of_o god_n then_o to_o be_v cast_v out_o of_o god_n presence_n love_n and_o favour_n second_o what_o great_a plague_n to_o a_o distress_a soul_n then_o to_o be_v deprive_v of_o god_n bless_a spirit_n whereby_o alone_o we_o we_o be_v guide_v &_o comfort_v and_o without_o who_o we_o can_v have_v no_o comfort_n nor_o ever_o do_v any_o good_a thing_n but_o shall_v be_v carry_v of_o our_o own_o lust_n headlong_o into_o all_o sin_n and_o wickedness_n saul_n david_n allude_v to_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o saul_n now_o against_o both_o these_o david_n pray_v former_a be_v this_o when_o david_n entreat_v the_o lord_n not_o to_o cast_v he_o out_o of_o his_o presence_n that_o be_v his_o love_n and_o favour_n whether_o a_o man_n elect_v and_o in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n as_o david_n justify_v and_o sanctify_a may_v loose_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o fall_v away_o to_o become_v a_o reprobate_n and_o castaway_n and_o so_o final_o to_o perish_v the_o other_o question_n be_v see_v david_n pray_v the_o lord_n not_o to_o take_v his_o holy_a spirit_n from_o he_o whether_o the_o sanctify_a gift_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n holy_a spirit_n may_v final_o and_o total_o be_v lose_v and_o take_v away_o these_o question_n both_o be_v defend_v and_o affirm_v by_o the_o papist_n and_o their_o follower_n who_o hold_v that_o a_o man_n true_o elect_v call_v justify_v and_o sanctify_a and_o in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n may_v fall_v away_o and_o perish_v we_o hold_v the_o contrary_a that_o a_o man_n once_o in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n elect_v call_v justify_v and_o sanctify_a can_v final_o perish_v not_o clean_o be_v bereave_v of_o the_o save_a grace_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n now_o because_o these_o two_o question_n be_v point_n of_o great_a moment_n and_o on_o which_o all_o our_o happiness_n and_o comfort_n do_v hang_v and_o depend_v therefore_o i_o will_v stand_v a_o little_a to_o prove_v they_o by_o testimony_n of_o scripture_n not_o of_o we_o 22._o mat._n 7.21_o 22._o for_o if_o they_o have_v be_v of_o we_o they_o will_v have_v continue_v with_o us._n and_o therefore_o it_o behove_v we_o all_o to_o take_v heed_n that_o we_o content_v not_o ourselves_o with_o the_o common_a gift_n and_o grace_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o a_o reprobate_n may_v have_v for_o it_o be_v certain_a most_o excellent_a gift_n will_v not_o avail_v a_o man_n to_o salvation_n unless_o there_o be_v the_o true_a work_n of_o grace_n save_v faith_n sound_a repentance_n and_o hearty_a obedience_n verse_n 12.13_o 12._o restore_v i_o to_o the_o joy_n of_o thy_o salvation_n and_o establish_v i_o with_o thy_o free_a spirit_n 13._o then_o shall_v i_o teach_v thy_o way_n unto_o the_o wicked_a and_o the_o sinner_n shall_v be_v convert_v unto_o and_o wonderful_a comfort_n with_o assurance_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n for_o their_o salvation_n but_o if_o as_o any_o time_n they_o break_v out_o to_o sin_n and_o rebel_v against_o god_n by_o wilful_a disobedience_n than_o they_o shall_v find_v a_o hell_n in_o their_o conscience_n trouble_n fear_n and_o care_n for_o the_o time_n who_o can_v tell_v what_o fear_n and_o care_v peter_n feel_v 23._o luke_n 23._o in_o what_o grief_n and_o sorrow_n of_o heart_n he_o be_v in_o when_o cowardly_o he_o deny_v his_o lord_n and_o master_n it_o cost_v he_o many_o a_o bitter_a tear_n the_o reason_n of_o this_o doctrine_n be_v because_o all_o peace_n and_o comfort_n to_o a_o poor_a soul_n spring_v from_o the_o sense_n and_o comfortable_a feel_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n jesus_n for_o the_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v make_v sad_a and_o grieve_a how_o can_v there_o be_v any_o true_a joy_n use_v see_v there_o be_v such_o sweet_a comfort_n in_o a_o godly_a and_o christian_a life_n while_o we_o walk_v with_o god_n and_o serve_v and_o please_v he_o in_o spirit_n and_o truth_n and_o when_o man_n sin_n and_o rebel_v against_o god_n they_o pull_v down_o upon_o their_o head_n such_o any_o church_n or_o kingdom_n oh_o than_o let_v we_o repent_v of_o our_o sin_n let_v we_o entreat_v the_o lord_n not_o to_o bring_v this_o judgement_n upon_o we_o but_o rather_o to_o humble_v we_o by_o any_o other_o mean_n as_o it_o please_v his_o majesty_n use_v 2_o this_o condemn_v a_o plain_a dotage_n and_o foolish_a dream_n of_o ignorant_a person_n oh_o say_v some_o it_o be_v never_o a_o good_a world_n since_o we_o have_v so_o much_o preach_v but_o in_o time_n of_o popery_n than_o all_o thing_n be_v cheap_a and_o so_o they_o gather_v by_o outward_a peace_n and_o tranquillity_n that_o god_n love_v they_o and_o like_v of_o they_o but_o we_o see_v here_o howsoever_o many_o poor_a soul_n may_v deceive_v themselves_o it_o be_v a_o singular_a favour_n of_o god_n to_o a_o people_n when_o he_o give_v they_o his_o gospel_n to_o be_v true_o preach_v &_o teach_v unto_o they_o when_o they_o may_v call_v upon_o he_o in_o public_a and_o private_a this_o be_v a_o special_a favour_n of_o god_n but_o where_o this_o be_v want_v where_o prophesy_v fail_v 29._o prou._n 29._o the_o people_n perish_v for_o where_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v not_o preach_v and_o the_o people_n teach_v there_o they_o be_v ignorant_a blind_a and_o profane_a and_o all_o manner_n of_o sin_n abound_v and_o where_o sin_n abound_v there_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n must_v needs_o hang_v over_o the_o head_n of_o that_o people_n for_o where_o the_o word_n be_v not_o preach_v and_o the_o people_n teach_v though_o they_o abound_v in_o all_o prosperity_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o so_o great_a a_o favour_n as_o they_o think_v it_o to_o be_v nay_o it_o may_v be_v aiudgement_n unto_o they_o for_o what_o be_v they_o the_o better_a to_o have_v peace_n and_o plenty_n ease_n and_o liberty_n when_o as_o they_o want_v the_o favour_n of_o god_n for_o every_o blessing_n be_v not_o a_o benefit_n according_a to_o thy_o good_a pleasure_n these_o word_n contain_v the_o ground_n of_o his_o request_n namely_o the_o endless_a mercy_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n not_o any_o goodness_n or_o worthiness_n of_o their_o own_o of_o david_n or_o the_o people_n but_o he_o build_v his_o faith_n and_o petition_n of_o god_n mere_a and_o undeserued_a mercy_n in_o christ_n doctr._fw-la 4_o hence_o we_o learn_v merit_n faith_n must_v not_o rest_v upon_o other_o merit_n that_o we_o must_v build_v our_o
