wherever_o there_o be_v a_o vigorous_a belief_n of_o providence_n it_o will_v always_o be_v follow_v with_o the_o love_n and_o fear_v of_o god_n that_o therefore_o in_o the_o course_n of_o our_o life_n we_o may_v set_v the_o lord_n before_o we_o and_o direct_v our_o design_n to_o his_o glory_n that_o we_o may_v use_v the_o good_n he_o give_v we_o discreet_o and_o temperate_o and_o when_o he_o afflict_v we_o that_o we_o may_v be_v patient_a quiet_a and_o humble_a and_o without_o murmur_n or_o complaint_n make_v a_o entire_a resignation_n of_o ourselves_o and_o of_o all_o we_o have_v unto_o his_o righteous_a will_n that_o we_o may_v be_v grateful_a for_o his_o mercy_n and_o in_o all_o our_o way_n acknowledge_v he_o and_o think_v of_o he_o i_o shall_v take_v leave_n to_o propose_v these_o the_o nature_n of_o god_n which_o consist_v in_o infinite_a perfection_n but_o the_o deny_v of_o providence_n or_o the_o supposal_n that_o matter_n go_v in_o the_o world_n either_o by_o fate_n or_o chance_n be_v most_o repugnant_a to_o the_o bless_a nature_n of_o god_n and_o do_v contradict_v almost_o every_o one_o of_o his_o attribute_n and_o perfection_n who_o can_v not_o be_v almighty_a if_o there_o be_v any_o power_n independent_a upon_o he_o who_o will_v not_o be_v infinite_o wise_a if_o he_o govern_v the_o vast_a production_n of_o his_o power_n by_o no_o law_n who_o goodness_n will_v justice_n if_o he_o do_v not_o at_o all_o mind_n the_o way_n of_o man_n they_o will_v have_v no_o motive_n to_o love_v he_o nor_o reason_n to_o fear_n they_o shall_v fall_v under_o his_o displeasure_n by_o act_v the_o most_o horrid_a impiety_n prayer_n be_v the_o primary_n duty_n of_o christian_n the_o great_a instrument_n by_o which_o they_o obtain_v a_o supply_n of_o all_o necessary_n bodily_a and_o spiritual_a and_o the_o chief_a support_n of_o their_o mind_n in_o trouble_n whereby_o they_o compose_v themselves_o to_o endure_v the_o sharp_a suffering_n and_o become_v conqueror_n of_o their_o strong_a temptation_n but_o if_o god_n have_v no_o knowledge_n of_o the_o affair_n of_o this_o world_n the_o reason_n and_o very_a foundation_n of_o prayer_n will_v be_v destroy_v which_o to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o merciful_a father_n they_o therefore_o who_o will_v bear_v trouble_n well_o must_v live_v in_o a_o constant_a expectation_n of_o they_o and_o in_o their_o good_a day_n lay_v up_o a_o stock_n of_o christian_a grace_n against_o the_o winter_n of_o adversity_n they_o i_o say_v who_o in_o the_o height_n of_o their_o prosperity_n will_v often_o and_o serious_o reflect_v upon_o the_o great_a change_n that_o either_o by_o loss_n and_o pain_n or_o certain_o by_o death_n in_o a_o short_a time_n will_v overtake_v they_o and_o provide_v themselves_o with_o the_o suffering-virtue_n against_o that_o dark_a season_n will_v be_v so_o far_o from_o have_v their_o spirit_n sink_v at_o the_o approach_n either_o of_o affliction_n or_o death_n itself_o that_o it_o will_v raise_v they_o above_o the_o world_n and_o mount_v and_o carry_v their_o heart_n and_o affection_n to_o god_n who_o be_v the_o centre_n of_o all_o sound_a peace_n and_o solid_a joy_n how_o happy_a be_v those_o soul_n who_o when_o the_o world_n most_o smile_n upon_o they_o do_v not_o trust_v it_o but_o furnish_v themselves_o with_o the_o humility_n and_o the_o meekness_n and_o the_o patience_n of_o jesus_n against_o the_o evil_a day_n that_o as_o no_o sickness_n or_o trouble_n can_v much_o surprise_v they_o so_o neither_o can_v it_o great_o or_o long_o discompose_v their_o mind_n but_o they_o discern_v the_o finger_n of_o god_n in_o it_o and_o turn_v it_o to_o their_o spiritual_a advantage_n and_o they_o therefore_o count_v it_o joy_n when_o they_o fall_v into_o temptation_n i_o e._n suffer_v affliction_n for_o they_o be_v assure_v that_o god_n will_v not_o suffer_v they_o to_o be_v tempt_v above_o what_o they_o be_v able_a if_o they_o be_v trouble_v on_o every_o side_n yet_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v distress_v if_o they_o be_v perplex_v they_o shall_v not_o despair_v if_o they_o be_v persecute_v they_o shall_v not_o be_v forsake_v if_o cast_v down_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v destroy_v sermon_n ii_o iii_o that_o if_o we_o equal_o consider_v thing_n we_o shall_v be_v constrain_v to_o acknowledge_v that_o god_n goodness_n and_o mercy_n do_v appear_v in_o our_o great_a suffering_n and_o this_o will_v be_v evident_a from_o the_o follow_a reason_n 1._o because_o if_o we_o look_v upon_o god_n as_o the_o supreme_a lord_n and_o owner_n of_o the_o world_n who_o alone_o have_v the_o right_a of_o all_o we_o shall_v find_v ourselves_o to_o be_v but_o tenant_n at_o will_n for_o every_o thing_n that_o we_o have_v and_o if_o god_n have_v give_v we_o nothing_o but_o during_o pleasure_n then_o let_v he_o take_v it_o away_o when_o he_o please_v he_o can_v do_v we_o no_o wrong_n our_o life_n that_o make_v we_o capable_a of_o his_o other_o favour_n our_o health_n which_o make_v life_n comfortable_a our_o relation_n our_o estate_n our_o ease_n and_o peace_n be_v all_o the_o free_a gift_n of_o the_o bounty_n of_o he_o who_o have_v not_o the_o least_o
